This manual provides installation and application software guide information of SmartTV-DX. If you want to
know more Information about product, please refer this manual

SmartTV-DX Connection
2.1 Connector location

Chapter 3
Driver and Software installation:

To install the driver and application software, you can simply insert the driver and application CD-ROM disc
into the CD-ROM drive. Please select the SmartTV-DX “Driver and Application” to install the driver and
application software in your system.
3.1 Driver and application Installation:
1. Select the Language which you want to display

during the application install and press “OK”
button to continue
2. Welcome screen will be appeared and press “Next”

button
3. Select the folder location to install the application in

your system. By default the location will be in
C:\Program Files\Application\SmartTV-DX\

4. Please select the components that will be installed in
your system.
- Driver (install the Windows Driver only)
- SmartTV-DX (is the TV application for Windows)
and click “Next” Button to continue
5. During driver installation, system warning window will

be popped up and remind you for system compatibility
issue. Please ignore the warning by pressing the
“Continue Anyway” button
6. When TV tuner driver is installed to your system,

system warning message will be display again for “PCI
Video Device” and “PCI Audio Device” please
continuous the driver installation by pressing the
“Continue Anyway” button again.

7. Please press the “Finish” button after driver and
application installation is completed. Your System will
be restarted automatically.
3.2 TV Application for SmartTV-DX
After driver and application installation, two application icons can be found
on your desktop
1. FM Radio icon – double click the icon to execute the FM Radio

application
2. SmartTV-DX icon – double click the icon to execute the TV Watching and
recording program
Note: The remote control driver will also be installed during driver and application installation. Remote control feature can
only work in FM Radio and SmartTV-DX TV application. The bundled remote control unit cannot be used in other applications.

4.2 Application Setting
4.2.1 Channel scan
Click on SmartTV-DX to setting all the Functions.
In “Setup” menu, you can Scan The TV channels,

Edit and rename the Channels.
1. Please select the Antenna Input type and
your region before channel scanning
2. In this example “Air Antenna” connection is
selected and the Region is “United Kingdom”
3. After Channel information is selected, press
the “Auto Scan” button, and all channels will
be scan and lock automatically.

4.2.2 Channel list edit
SmartTV-DX auto scan all channels, you can edit your favourite channels.
Please choose your country and area firstly and before scan channel as shown.
Channel scan: Full channels scan
Press to start the TV channel scan feature, which will scan all channels according to your
region. You can find the button of automatic scan in channel edit menu.
When SmartTV-DX is scanning channels, the program will mute the volume and show in the channel table.
4.2.3 Channel Rename

You can re-define channels name:
 Select the channel to rename
 Press the right mouse button to change the
channel name or modify the channel name in
the “Channel Text box
To redefine the channel sequence, please click the

“UP and Down” button to move your favourite
channels in upper position
4.2.4 Channel fine tune

In some regions, the TV reception quality will not be
so good. SmartTV-DX application provides a TV
channel fine tune control for fine adjust the tuning
frequency. Please try to drag and slide bar and
slide slight either to right or left to see any improvement on TV picture quality.
4.2.5 Channel skip

Reserve the channel by click the “tick box” in the channel table, or deselect it to skip the channel
4.2.6 Channels add

Press the “Add” button, you can add a new channel then define channel name and frequency.
4.2.7 Channel TV audio setting

Select the specified channel, press the right key on mouse, four states: Mono, Stereo, Language A and
Language B. The default audio is Mono.
Remark: Stereo audio can only work with TV programmes with Stereo audio.

4.2.8 Color Control
Change the brightness/contrast/color/saturation/sharpness to specified value. And if you want to change back
to default value, you can press the default button.
4.2.9 Recording option

 Format: DVD/SVCD/VCD/AVI/MPEG4/WMV/WMA/MP3
 Size: Recording size from 352x240 (NTSC) 352x288 (PAL) to 720x480 (NTSC) 720x576 (PAL).
 Video bit rate: Bigger bit rates will cause more disk space usage, but will bring better video quality.
 Audio bit rate: Higher audio bit rate will cause more disk space usage, but better audio quality.
Remark
High quality image need more space, if space is limited, you should adjust the recording setting to help you
record TV programs in longer duration.

4.2.10 Saving path setting
You can choose the directory to save the still
images and recorded video files.
Please press the “Browse” button to check

the direction of images or video files.
4.2.11 TV Option menu

In the TV window, you can select the TV control menu
by right click the mouse button. The TV control menu
will be appeared.

4.3 SmartTV-DX software usage
4.3.1 Video Recoding:

SmartTV-DX supports MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 format
To record TV programs, just simply press the “R” button. TV program will be recorded
automatically. You can press the “R” button again to stop the TV program recording
immediately.
Status panel will show the real-time recording information and shield some information about recording.
4.3.2 Hard disk space requirement for TV recording

Hard disk space requirement is depended on the recording format. There is some information for your
reference.

Note
Please choose right format when recording TV program.

4.3.3 Schedule Recording
You can record your favourite program as you specify, such as from Monday to Friday you record specified
channel at specified time period.
 New: Add a new Schedule Recording Task

 Modify: Modify the task you have chosen
 Delete: Delete the task you have chosen
 OK: Press the button, all schedule recording tasks on active.
New dialog:
 Name: The name of new task
 Mode: There are two options: Recording or watching
 S-VIDEO Video input: TV tuner/Composite/S-Video
 Channel: Under TV condition, you can choose channel you need to schedule watching or schedule
recording
 Duration: The recording duration time of task. Minimize: 2mins. Default as 30mins.

Click ”Next” to choose recording format.
Click ”Next” to date and time setting. (Time format is 24 Hours)

 Only once: Only one time for the task
 Every week: choose particular day in every week for schedule TV recording
 Every day: Schedule record in everyday
After finish setting, click ”Next” to start schedule recording setting, then you need decide how to act when
finishing the recording:
There are three options which you can be selected after schedule recording:
 Auto shut down: After recording, system auto shut down (Power off the PC)
 Exit Application: Exit program and keep PC on
 Stay on: Continue watching TV (keep software alive)

After record setting, click “Next”, then system will promote “Finish” message automatically, please
click ”finish”.
If OS send this message as follow when add one more tasks, which mean have conflict on time of other task.
Please revise task time setting.

4.3.4 Video playback
Press , open files you recorded files earlier and choose the files you want to play, double click
or press “Open” button.
While playing, control panel will show time information and functions about playing.
4.3.5 Video Snapshot
When you are watching TV program, you can press the button to capture a particular scene
and save it as a bitmap picture file. After pressing snapshot button, system will prompt you to save the
captured picture. You can watch it and edit it by double click the picture thumbnail. When you want to
delete picture, please press Delete button.
4.3.6 Change channel:
When watching TV, press or to go to next or previous TV channel.

Page Up and Page Down on keyboard, or IR Remote transmitter also can change
the TV channel. Press the digital keys to jump specified TV channel, If you want to
watching TV which channel number is higher than 10 (above 10), you should press
two or more digit key. If you want to return the channel, you should press digit key.
Remark: If you want to choose the channel of two digits, you can press the digit button to
return the channel previously.
Remark
Refer channel setting instruction when there have some channels lost.

4.3.7 Channel Preview
Press to preview 16 channels on the same time. Choose the right channel directly to
watch by click mouse on the small window.
4.3.8 Time-shifting mode

Time-shift lets you pause, replay, or skip commercials when you are watching live TV. Time-Shifting mode will
not interrupt the ongoing recording session. Time-shift gives you absolute new feeling over how you watch
television, which you never have before. When you are watching your favourite sport game program, the life
TV program can be paused anytime. Time-shift mode temporary saves the video to your hard disk for a
specified period of time. When you return to your seat, you can resume viewing the program from the point
where you pause the life TV program.
Caution
Time-shift can use significant disk space and cannot automatically skip commercials.
Additional Discussion
In Time-shift, you are recording to and playing back from the same video file or buffer. You can playback from
various locations in that buffer. Similar to video playback, you can pause, fast-forward, and rewind. A major
difference is that SmartTV-DX software is simultaneously recording live television while playing back from the
buffer. That means you will see greater CPU utilization during Time-shift mode because you are
simultaneously recording and playback the recorded video. At full DVD quality, time-shift can require up to a
1.7 GHz CPU or faster CPU.
Enable Time-Shifting mode:
Press button to enable Time-Shifting mode, then Time Monitor bar will be appeared. The Time
Monitor bar informs you how much of the time-shift buffer are in use. You can also use your mouse
to drag the Time Control Shuttle to jump to a specific time.
Exit Time-shifting function:
Press button to exit time-shift function.
4.3.9 Teletext
Press button to activate “Teletext” feature. The function let user to receive Teletext
message from the TV program channel.
Remark: Teletext can only be shown on the TV program with Teletext message broadcast.

5.1.1 FM Radio Setup

Click “Setup menu” in control panel to set all function.
Broadcasting setting: FM can automatic sort usable broadcasting station, then you can set all broadcasting
list. Please see below instruction.
Auto Scan: Broadcasting setting: FM can automatic sort usable broadcasting station, it also can be
rescanned.
Press “Auto scan channel” button to auto scan all FM Radio channels according to your region. Click
“ ” in Channel setting menu to search. If you want stop channel scan, please click “ ”.
SmartTV-DX FM can automatic scan broadcasting and shown channel list.

Channel Rename:
FM Radio channel name can be edited as follows:
1. Select the FM Radio channel that you want to edit
2. Press right key on mouse, you can change the channel name
3. Input the new channel name
 If you want to change other channel’s name, please repeat Step 1 to Step 3.
Press button to confirm the modification channel position can be revised up and down button
Channel fine tune:

FM Radio application provides the channel fine tuning feature. If the channel reception audio is not clear,
FM radio channel frequency can be fine tuned by adjusting the “Fine Tune:” slide bar.

Add new channel:
Press to manual add a FM Radio Channel on the Channel table.
 Input your Channel Name

 Input the Frequency Value
Press “OK” button” to confirm the change.

5.1.2 FM Radio Recording
Two audio recording format can be selected for FM Radio recording.

 MP3 format
 WMA format
Save location
Click “Browse” to choose save directory
Timing record setting

Choose starting and end time in Add taskbar, then click “Add”
Click “ Delete” to cancel the task, “delete all” can cancel all tasks.
If appears below message, please check if there is a time conflict in all tasks.
Below is Timing date: (Red is the date needed to set)
5.1.3 FM Radio application

You can use FM Radio application to listen the FM radio and record the FM radio into WMA, MP3 and WAV
files and store in your hard disk.
5.1.4 Record the FM Radio
Press to start the recording and press again to stop recording. The recording information will
be shown on FM application software during FM Radio channel is being recorded.

5.1.5 Playback the pre-recorded FM Radio file
Press the “Open recorded file” button and select the auto file that you want to play.
While playing, the application software will show information about the playing status.
5.1.6 FM Radio station

Before using channel related functions, you must do the FM Radio station scanning first.
When listen FM Radio, press or to switch next FM Radio channel or Previous FM Radio
station. By using Page Up and Page Down keys on keyboard or “channel up” and “channel down” on the
Infrared remote controller, you can change the station also,
You also can select the quick station preset by pressing the digital keys
on the FM Radio application interface, which can change the FM Radio station rapidly.
