Subject: Media Center Evaluation Results

The media center was recently evaluated using the Georgia DOE 2010 Library Media
Program Evaluation Rubric. The rubric consists of nineteen categories that are rated on three
levels of proficiency, which are basic, proficient, and exemplary. After reviewing the media
center’s scores, it is with pleasure to inform you that the overall functioning of the media center
is on target. In fact, the media center received exemplary ratings in several categories.
Furthermore, the media center contains adequate space to accommodate teachers as well
as students. The media specialist does an excellent job reading books to students and allowing
them to view and complete activities with the aid of the promethean board. The students and
teachers have constant access to computers in the media center and classrooms. Most
importantly, it is apparent that the media center receives support from both the local and district
level.

However, categories 6, 13, 17, and 18 received a basic proficiency level. In order to
improve the proficiency levels of those categories and an action plan has been designed to
address them.

Moreover, the overall functioning of the media center should meet the needs of all
students. However, the school’s media center received a score of proficient in category 5. This
category states that services are provided to students who have diverse learning abilities, styles,
and needs. In order to improve the category from proficient to exemplary status, the following
action plan should be followed.

 Identify the students with diverse learning abilities, styles, and needs (students with
disabilities, ESOL, etc.)
 Review their identification plans such as IEPs or 504 plans.

2
 Locate media resources such as books, videos, and guided reading kits that will cater to
their learning needs.
 Inform teachers of those resources and collaborate with the teachers on developing
assignments and task for their learning needs.
 Teachers and media specialist will assist the students in checking out resources that are
designed for their learning abilities.
 Monitor students’ progress on a monthly basis.

As stated, the media center is conducive to learning, and the media specialist works
extremely hard to help meet the needs of students and teachers. With the few noted changes, the
entire media center will definitely continue to be an oasis of learning for the entire school.
