1.4.3.1 Mounting the rudder angle transmission system

NOTE Please see dimensional drawing no. 101 C 529 HP005 for detailed
dimension data.

Depending on the amount of space available on board and the working range of
the rudder, one of two types of transmission can be selected.

(1) Linkage transmission

With this type of transmission the appropriately adjusted flat steel piece
supplied with the unit must be mounted to the rudder spindle (if not already
present) in accordance with the dimensional drawing.
The transmission ratio is 1 : 1 and can be configured for operating angles
of 0 to ± 45°. The drive shaft consists of a driving lever, two ball and socket
joints and a connecting threaded round bar.
Once the driving rod has been carefully adjusted, the threaded round bar
between the two ball and socket joints should be shortened to the required
length.

Systems with up to a maximum of two feedback units will

therefore require two driving rods.
After fitting, transmission should not be endangered from
loose objects in the area of the lever.
All cables situated in the action range of the lever must be
fastened down.

Edition: 19.FEB.2001 7 3464E/100--037.DOC032

Service Manual

(2) Toothed-belt transmission

At rudder angles of ±45° to a maximum of. ±90° feedback unit drive is
effected by a toothed-belt drive. The transmission ratio is also 1 : 1.
The threaded holes (e.g. M4, 20 mm deep) required to fasten the
toothed-belt wheel to the rudder spindle must be made centrally on the
plane face of the rudder spindle.
Example of how to find the centre circle point on the rudder spindle;

Rudder spindle
Toothed belt wheel

Bore

A B

Picture 5 : Mark centre of the circle (A), fit toothed disk onto
rudder spindle (B)

The toothed-belt wheel is then screwed on. The tension of the toothed belt
should be such that at a centrally applied force of 10N the belt extends by
only 1 cm.

In systems with a maximum of two feedback units, two

toothed-belt wheels must be screwed centrally onto the
plane face of the rudder spindle, and parallel to one
another.
All cables situated in the action range of the toothed belt
drive must be fastened down.

rameter values that are necessary for the system to operate.
These parameters can be adapted or changed to suit the layout of the specific system.

Note:
In principle it is necessary to configure ship-specific parameters only when putting the
system into operation for the first time, or when extending the system (for example, af-
ter an option has been added).

The table below shows the configuration parameters. The factory set default values are
listed in the “default” column.

X--Values in the Display column can hold any value within the specified range.

2.2.3 Electrical calibration of max. Rudderscale

The Auto Pilot NP 60 has to be switched on, and the operation mode MAN
(see Operating Manual, section 2.7.3) has to be selected.
Under use of the control knob at the operater unit the rudder has to be moved into the
respective endposition (for example 35°).

(1)The rudder does not reach the endposition (35° as a. m.)

If the rudder does not reach the endposition, the amplification factor has to
be increased with potentiometer R154 (see Picture 18 ) until the indicated
reference value is identical to the mechanical rudderposition.

(2)The rudder reaches its endposition before the reference

value (35° as a. m.)
If the rudder overshoots the ordered angle, the amplification factor has to be
decreased.

(3)Offset correction
After rudder scale adjustment, the offset calibration is to be checked again
(according to section 2.2.2).
