Where to Eat Delicious Sweets: Jodhpur is famous for its sweets.

One can
find a large crowd at every shop of sweet delicacies. Its in tradition of jodhpur
that first you have to eat sweet and then start other food. One can't escape from
sweet hospitality ("Mithi Manuhar") of Jodhpur and than quite appropriate that
this is the secret of the sugary tone of the citizen of this city. 'Mave ki Kachori' ,
'Besan ki Chaaki', 'Maakhan Vade' are some of the most famous sweets of
Jodhpur. Janta Sweet Home, Jodhpur Sweet Home", Pokhar Sweets are some of
the shop where one can find a quality and variety of sweets.

Daal -Baati, Pachkuta & Bajre-ka-Khich :

Perhaps the best known food is the combination of daal, baati and churma. Daal
being a combination of 5 pulses cooked in Baati being the bread, which is a ball
of kneaded flour baked and soaked in ghee (clarified butter).
This dish is traditionally eaten in the colder season and is combined with Churma
Ladoo’s, a sweet.
As the name sounds, pachkuta has five basic ingredients- sangri, kair & kumtia,
dried red chillies, amchur cooked in oil and basic masalas. Another delicious cool
dish is bajre ki khich. This is a tasty khichidi made with millet, yoghurt, masala &
peas with chopped ginger & turmeric. This is served with chaach ka Khatta made
from buttermilk.

Spicy Breakfast :
Most of the citizen of this city start their breakfast with the world famous
'Samosas', 'Kachoris' and 'Mirchi Vadas', Its not only famous among jodhpur
people but appeal to the palate of the tourists. A visit to Jodhpur would be
wasted without a bite of its spicy ' Pyaz ki Kachori and Mirchi Vade'. All that one
has to do, to taste and purchase the myriad specialities of the town, is to roam
in and around Sojati Gate, one of the few areas still untainted by outside world.

Kair-Sangri :
Jodhpur's food is highly spiced to preserve and contains number of berries and
roots from desert that are healthy and herbal. In a state of desert and water
paucity, marwaris had to be innovative to survive and therefore the fine art of
food preservation became the greatest need. Some of the preserved food stuff
includes: Kair-sangri (radish pods); cluster beans, large red peppers, methi
seeds, tamarind, raw mangoes for amchur, urad & moony dal papads and Vadis.
