Additional Requirements To API 5LC 3rd Edition

(Modified 13% Cr Seamless Pipe Material)

A change in wall thickness of more than +/-10% will require a new MPQ.
Changes in chemical composition which may affect the manufacture, the
girth welding, and corrosion properties will require a new MPQ.

As part of the MPQ’s a set of three Charpy specimens shall be tested at

the following test temperatures from one of the test rings to establish a
transition curve, 20°C, 0°C, -10°C, -30°C, -50°C and -70°C and -90°C.

As part of the MPQ’s a pipe sample shall be subjected to 5% longitudinal

strain and then aged at a temperature of 250°C for 1 hour. A set of three
Charpy specimens shall then be machined and tested in accordance with
this specification for both the Transverse and Longitudinal directions.

The proposed chemical composition shall be supplied for review. The

required grade of material is X80-12Cr6.5Ni2.5Mo or X80-12Cr4.5Ni1.5Mo

• A product analysis shall be carried out on each heat or batch of 50

pipes (on at least 2 samples from either), whichever is the more
frequent. A ladle analysis shall be carried out for each heat.
• Production testing shall be carried out at a frequency of one set of
tests per 50 pipes with a minimum of one set per heat.
• The maximum yield strength and UTS shall not exceed the specified
minimum values by more than 120N/mm2 (extreme case 130MPa)
and the yield strength to tensile strength ratio shall not exceed
0.89. A stress/strain curve for each test shall be retained and
submitted as part of the as-built documentation. The above
conditions are applicable for ambient temperature.

Tensile properties to be as per table below. Tensile Tests to be taken in

the transverse and longitudinal directions.

(Modified 13% Cr Seamless Pipe Material)

Yield and Tensile Requirements

Temperature 20°C 100°C (or Max Design Temp)
Min Yield (MPa) 550 500
Min Tensile (MPa) 800 650
Max Yield (MPa) 680 -
Max Tensile (MPa) 900 -

In special cases yields at 20°C up to 700MPa may be considered.

However, a statistical distribution of both Yield and Tensile Strength is to
be reported for each shipment and for the complete production of each
pipe size for this to be considered. Strained and aged tests at 20°C and
elevated temperature shall also be reported.

For seamless pipe material a Vickers hardness survey shall be carried out
on a macro-section taken from one end of the selected pipes for
production testing. The survey shall be carried out using a 10kg load in
accordance with BSEN ISO 6705 : part 1 and shall consist of a complete
traverse across the full thickness of the macrosection with identations
spaced at 2 mm to include indentations at both the internal and external
surfaces (the survey on the internal and external surface shall be carried
out at 1.5mm from the edge).

The maximum allowable hardnesses shall not exceed those given below.

Pipe Location Max Hardness (HV10)

Internal Surface 310
External Surface 310

Charpy testing shall be carried out on each production test pipe selected
in accordance with API 5L appendix SR5, the acceptance criteria shall be
as detailed below.
Test @ -30°C to be min 150 Joules average and min 135 joules single
value.

Corrosion tests to be performed in accordance EFC 17 – General

requirements and test methods for H2S service for corrosion resistant
alloys.

The electrolyte to be used will be specified to be equal to or more severe

than service environment.

Hardness (HV10) shall be carried out in accordance with together with

micro/metallographic examination.

The inside diameter of the pipe end (for a distance of 100mm from the
bevel) shall be checked at both ends by a rod gauge or similar type
instrument. The results of these checks shall be recorded where the
deviation from the nominal pipe I.D. shall be no more than +/- 2.0mm
where measurements are taken in 2 planes at 90° to each other (the
nominal I.D. shall be defined as the pipe O.D. minus 2 x the specified
nominal wall thickness).

The wall thickness measured at any point shall not vary from the specified
nominal thickness by more than +/-12.5%. The wall thickness shall be
determined by ultrasonic testing.

The pipe joint shall be supplied in lengths of 12.2M +/- 0.4M.

Jointers shall not be permitted.

All NDE shall be performed on completion of heat treatment and

hydrostatic testing.

All operators shall be qualified to SNT-TC-1A or equivalent, operators shall

be qualified to level 1 or 2 with supervisors qualified to level 3.

a qualified procedure for pipe surface treatment.
All pipes to be visually inspected, magnetic leakage inspected and UT
controlled.

The residual magnetism in finished pipes shall be checked by

measurement of the magnetic flux density at a location immediately
adjacent to the pipe ends using a suitable probe or gauss meter. Checks
shall be carried out on in the as supplied condition with the maximum
permissible level of magnetism being 20 Gauss.

Repair of defects by welding shall not be permitted.

The manufacturer shall supply weldability data for a product, which is

reflective of the project linepipe in terms of grade, dimensions, process
route, chemical composition and heat treatment. Should this data be
unacceptable the manufacturer shall carry out weldability trials at the
manufacturers cost. Both welding technique and test results shall be
given. The PWHT programme shall also be described.

The manufacturer shall supply reelability data for a product, which is
