GOD IS IMAGINARY

Proof #1 - Try praying

What would happen if we get down on our knees and pray to God in this way:

Dear God, almighty, all-powerful, all-loving creator of the universe, we pray to

you to cure every case of cancer on this planet tonight. We pray in faith, knowing
you will bless us as you describe in Matthew 7:7, Matthew 17:20, Matthew
21:21, Mark 11:24, John 14:12-14, Matthew 18:19 and James 5:15-16. In Jesus'
name we pray, Amen.
We pray sincerely, knowing that when God answers this completely heartfelt, unselfish,
non-materialistic prayer, it will glorify God and help millions of people in remarkable
ways.

Will anything happen? No. Of course not.

This is very odd. Jesus makes specific promises in the Bible about how prayer is
supposed to work. Jesus says in many different places that he and God will answer your
prayers. And Christians believe Jesus -- according to this recent article, "54% of
American adults believe the Bible is literally true." In some areas of the country the
number goes as high as 75%.

If the Bible is literally true, then something is seriously amiss. Simply look at the facts. In
Matthew 7:7 Jesus says:

Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened
to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who
knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will
give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who
are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your
Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
If "every one who asks receives", then if we ask for cancer to be cured, it should be
cured. Right? If "our Father who is in heaven gives good things to those who ask him",
then if we ask him to cure cancer, he should cure it. Right? And yet nothing happens.

In Matthew 17:20 Jesus says:

For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to
this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be
impossible to you.
If "nothing will be impossible to you", then if we ask to cure cancer tonight, cancer
should disappear. Right? Yet nothing happens. Note that if we take the Bible less-than-
literally here, the statement "nothing will be impossible to you" becomes "lots of things
will be impossible to you," and that would mean that Jesus is lying.

In Matthew 21:21:

I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what
was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw
yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive
whatever you ask for in prayer.
If "you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer", then if we ask to cure cancer tonight,
cancer should dissappear. Right? Yet nothing happens. Note again that there is not a
non-literal way to interpret "you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer", unless you
replace "whatever" with "nothing" or "little."

The message is reiterated Mark 11:24:

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have
received it, and it will be yours.
If God says, "believe that you have received it, and it will be yours," and if we believe in
God and his power, then what should happen if we pray to cure cancer tonight? It
should be cured. Either that, or God is lying.

In John chapter 14, verses 12 through 14, Jesus tells all of us just how easy prayer can
be:

"I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing.
He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And
I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the
Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." [ref]
Look at how direct this statement is: "You may ask me for anything in my name, and I
will do it." This is the "Son of God" speaking. Have we taken him "too literally?" No. This
is a simple, unambiguous statement. Have we taken his statement "out of context?" No
- Jesus uses the word anyone. Yet Jesus' statement is obviously false. Because when we
ask God to cure cancer tonight, nothing happens.

We see the same thing over and over again...

In Matthew 18:19 Jesus says:

Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be
done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in
my name, there am I in the midst of them.
In James 5:15-16 the Bible says:
 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise
him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each
other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a
righteous man is powerful and effective.
In Mark 9:23:
All things are possible to him who believes.
In Luke 1:37:
For with God nothing will be impossible.
Nothing could be simpler or clearer than Jesus' promises about prayer in the Bible. Yet,
when we pray to eliminate cancer, nothing happens.

And keep in mind that this is Jesus talking here. These are not the words of human
beings. These are not the words of "inspired" human beings. These are supposedly the
words of God himself, incarnated in a human body. Jesus is supposed to be a perfect,
sinless being. And yet, it is obvious that Jesus is lying. What Jesus says is clearly
incorrect.

Jesus is supposed to be God. God is supposed to be perfect.

When Jesus speaks, he should speak the truth.
Yet when we look at what Jesus says about prayer,
he is clearly lying.

If you would like additional proof, gather a million faithful believers together into a giant
prayer circle. Have them all pray together in Jesus' name that God cures every case of
cancer on the planet tomorrow. Pray sincerely, knowing that when God answers this
completely heartfelt, unselfish, non-materialistic prayer, it will glorify God and help
millions of people in remarkable ways. Now, we certainly have two or more people
gathered together, and they have asked in Jesus' name, and we have not one but a
million faithful believers who, by definition, have faith and believe. We have fulfilled
every one of Jesus' requirements.

Will Jesus answer the prayer now? Of course not. Your prayer will go unanswered, in
direct defiance to Jesus' promises in the Bible. In fact, if you pray for anything that is
impossible, your prayer will always go unanswered.
If you are an intelligent, rational human being, all of the examples mentioned above
show you that the God of the Bible is imaginary. What Jesus says about prayer in the
Bible clearly is not true.

In fact, we have ample scientific evidence to demonstrate that the belief in prayer is
nothing but pure superstition, as shown in the next proof...

Understanding the Rationalizations

A favorite Christian rationalization for why God does not answer our prayer to eliminate
cancer is because "it would take away free will." The logic: If you pray and God answers
your prayer, then God would have revealed himself to you, and you would know that
God exists. That would take away your free will to believe in him. Of course, if this is
true, then by default all of Jesus' statements about prayer in the Bible are false. It means
that God cannot answer any prayer. Also, why is a God who must remain hidden like this
incarnating himself and writing the Bible?

If Jesus is God, and if God is perfect, why aren't all of Jesus's verses about prayer true?
Was Jesus exagerating? Was he fibbing? If Jesus is perfect, why wouldn't he speak the
truth? Why doesn't a prayer to cure cancer worldwide tomorrow work?

Believers have many different ways to explain why all these verses in the Bible do not
work, even if you are praying sincerely, unselfishly and non-materialistically, and even if
the answer to your prayer would help millions of people and glorify God in the process.
They will say things like this:

"You need to understand what Jesus was saying in the context the first century
civilization in which he was speaking..."
or:
"When Jesus talked about 'moving a mountain', he was speaking metaphorically.
When someone says, 'it is raining cats and dogs,' no one takes him literally. Jesus
was using a figure of speech rather than speaking literally..."
or:
God is not a thing. He is a being. He has a will. He has desires. He relates to
people. He has personality traits. Prayer is a fancy word for talking to God. God,
who knows everything, even before we say it, knows the difference between our
thoughts and wishes, and when we are actually addressing him. He hears our
prayers and responds. His responses are based on his personal decisions. We
cannot predict how he will respond to our prayers... [ref]
The problem is, all of these rationalizations miss two important points:

1. God is supposed to be an all-powerful, all-knowing, perfect being.

 2. The statement, "Nothing will be impossible for you", along with the other Bible
verses quoted above, are false. The fact is, lots of things are impossible for you.

If a perfect being is going to make statements about how prayer works in the Bible, then
three things are certain: 1) He would speak clearly, 2) he would say what he means, and
3) he would speak the truth. That is what "being perfect" is all about. A perfect, all-
knowing God would know that people would be reading the Bible 2,000 years later, and
therefore he would not use first-century idioms (he would say what he means). He
would know that normal people will be reading the Bible and interpreting it in normal
ways, so he would speak in such a way as to avoid mis-interpretation (he would speak
clearly). He would know that when you say, "Nothing will be impossible for you", that
what it means is, "Nothing will be impossible for you" and he would make sure that the
statement "Nothing will be impossible for you" is accurate (he would speak the truth). If
God says it, it should be true -- otherwise he is not perfect.

Unfortunately, the fact is that thousands of things are impossible for you no matter how
much you pray, and no one (including Jesus) has ever moved a mountain.

In order to see the truth, you need to accept the fact that all of the above verses are
wrong. The fact is, God does not answer prayers. The reason why God does not answer
your prayers is simple: God is imaginary.

Proof #2 - Statistically analyze prayer

The fact is, God never answers any prayers. The entire idea that "God answers prayers"
is an illusion created by human imagination.

How do we know that "answered prayers" are illusions? We simply perform scientific
experiments. We ask a group of believers to pray for something and then we watch
what happens. What we find, whenever we test the efficacy of prayer scientifically, is
that prayer has zero effect:

It does not matter who prays.

It does not matter if we pray to God, Allah, Vishnu, Zeus, Ra or any other human
god.
It does not matter what we pray about.

If we perform scientific, double-blind tests on prayer, and if the prayers involve

something concrete and measurable (for example, healing people with cancer), we
know that there is zero effect from prayer. Every single "answered prayer" is nothing
more than a coincidence. Both scientific experiments and your everyday observations of
the world show this to be the case every single time.
For example, this article says:

One of the most scientifically rigorous studies yet, published earlier this month,
found that the prayers of a distant congregation did not reduce the major
complications or death rate in patients hospitalized for heart treatments.
And:
A review of 17 past studies of ''distant healing," published in 2003 by a British
researcher, found no significant effect for prayer or other healing methods.

This article from March, 2006 discusses the fact that the same conclusion was reached
in another study:

In the largest study of its kind, researchers found that having people pray for
heart bypass surgery patients had no effect on their recovery. In fact, patients
who knew they were being prayed for had a slightly higher rate of complications.
In this article we find an amazing quote where theologians and religious leaders declare
that prayer has no actual effect:
Religious leaders will breathe a sigh of relief at the news that so-called
intercessory prayer is medically ineffective. In a large and much touted scientific
study, one group of patients was told that strangers would pray for them, a
second group was told strangers might or might not pray for them, and a third
group was not prayed for at all. The $2.4 million study found that the strangers'
prayers did not help patients' recovery.
This is a remarkable example of "positive spin" -- religious leaders are "breathing a sigh
of relief" because prayer has been shown to be meaningless. The fact that prayer is a
total waste of time does not matter to them. It does not matter that all of Jesus'
promises about prayer in the Bible have been proven completely false.

A peer-reviewed scientific study published in 2001 did indicate that prayer works.
According to this article:

"On October 2, 2001, the New York Times reported that researchers at
prestigious Columbia University Medical Center in New York had discovered
something quite extraordinary. Using virtually foolproof scientific methods the
researchers had demonstrated that infertile women who were prayed for by
Christian prayer groups became pregnant twice as often as those who did not
have people praying for them. The study was published in the Journal of
Reproductive Medicine. Even the researchers were shocked. The study's results
could only be described as miraculous."
This study was later proven to be completely fraudulent. However, everyone who cut
out the original article in the NYTimes and posted it on their refrigerators still has that
article as "proof" that prayer works.
This article entitled A prayer before dying uncovers another case where a "scientific
study" of prayer is unmasked as fraudulent.

It's not just prayer that is ineffective. Not even a hopeful attitude helps. According to
this article:

A positive attitude does not improve the chances of surviving cancer and doctors
who encourage patients to keep up hope may be burdening them, according to
the results of research released Monday.

The dictionary defines the word "superstition" in this way:

An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to

a course of events influences its outcome. [ref]
The belief in prayer is a superstition. It has been proven scientifically over and over
again. When a prayer appears to be answered, it is a coincidence. Quite simply, prayer
has absolutely no effect on the outcome of any event. The "power of prayer" is actually
"the power of coincidence."

Prayer does not work because God is completely imaginary.

Understanding the Rationalizations

You can find many believers who will say, "The reason why scientific experiments fail to
detect God is because God must remain hidden. He does not answer prayers if he knows
that he will be detected."

In order to see the truth, you need to accept that this explanation is silly. If God must
remain hidden, then he cannot answer any prayers. Any "answered prayer" would
expose God.

The whole notion that "God" must remain "hidden" is a total cross-threading of religious
doctrine. On the one hand, believers will say that "God wrote the Bible, God incarnated
himself and died on the cross for us, and God answers millions of prayers on earth every
day." Then in the next breath they will say, "God must remain hidden." God obviously
cannot "remain hidden" and "incarnate himself." These two items are mutually
exclusive. Therefore, the explanation that "God must remain hidden" is impossible. As
soon as you accept how impossible it is, you can begin to see see that God is imaginary.

In order to see the truth, you need to accept the fact that the scientific evidence is
accurate and irrefutable. We have scientifically proven that God does not answer any
prayers on earth. Every single "answered prayer" is nothing more than a coincidence.
We can see reality by looking at a simple example. Imagine that the rate of remission for
some particularly nasty type of cancer is 5%. That means that if 20 people get this type
of cancer, it is almost always fatal. Only one in twenty of the people who get the disease
will survive. Knowing this, you can see what happens if we actually analyze prayer:

20 believers contract the disease

All of them have read James 5:15, so all of them pray.
19 of them die
The one who lives proclaims, "I prayed to the Lord and the Lord answered my
prayers! My disease is cured! It is a miracle! I KNEW God would answer my
prayers!"
You never hear about the 19 who died. No one ever writes about them in a
magazine. "Person prays, then dies" is not a great headline. And since they are
dead, you will never hear from any of these people.
Therefore, if you don't look at all the facts around the "answered prayer," and
you only hear about the one out of twenty prayers that succeed, it appears that
prayer is successful.

The fact is, believers who pray die from this disease at exactly the same rate as people
who do not.

We can see the reality of this situation simply by opening our eyes and looking at the
data. But we do have to open our eyes -- We have to look at both the successes AND the
failures of prayer to see the reality of our world. When we take a scientific approach and
we do look at both sides, we see what is really happening. God does not answer any
prayers because God is imaginary.

Proof #3 - Look at historical gods

The belief in "god" seems to be ubiquitous through the ages.

We know, for example, that the ancient Egyptians believed in their gods so fervently
that they built massive structures like the Great Pyramid -- still today one of the largest
and most enduring human constructions ever created. Despite that fervor, however, we
know with complete certainty today that the Egyptian gods were imaginary. We don't
build pyramids anymore and we do not mummify our leaders.

More recently we know that tens of millions of Romans worshiped Jupiter and his
friends, and to them they built magnificent temples. The ruins of these temples are
popular tourist attractions even today. Yet we know with complete certainty that these
gods were imaginary because no one worships Zeus any more.
Much more recently, we know that the Aztec civilization believed in their gods so
intensely that they constructed huge temples and pyramids. In addition, Aztecs were so
zealous that they were sacrificing hundreds of human beings to their gods as recently as
the 16th century. Despite the intensity, however, we know today that these gods were
completely imaginary. The Aztecs were insane to be murdering people for their gods.
Killing a person has no effect on rainfall or anything else. We all know that. If the Aztec
gods were real, we would still be offering sacrifices to them.

Today's "God" is just as imaginary as were these historical gods. The fact that millions of
people worship a god is meaningless.

The "God" and the "Jesus" that Christians worship today are actually amalgams formed
out of ancient pagan gods. The idea of a "virgin birth", "burial in a rock tomb",
"resurrection after 3 days" and "eating of body and drinking of blood" had nothing to do
with Jesus. All of the rituals in Christianity are completely man-made. Christianity is a
snow ball that rolled over a dozen pagan religions. As the snowball grew, it freely
attached pagan rituals in order to be more palatable to converts. You can find accounts
like these in popular literature:

"The vestiges of pagan religion in Christian symbology are undeniable. Egyptian

sun disks became the halos of Catholic saints. Pictograms of Isis nursing her
miraculously conceived son Horus became the blueprint for our modern images
of the Virgin Mary nursing Baby Jesus. And virtually all the elements of the
Catholic ritual - the miter, the altar, the doxology, and communion, the act of
"God-eating" - were taken directly from earlier pagan mystery religions."
"Nothing in Christianity is original. The pre-Christian God Mithras - called the Son
of God and the Light of the World - was born on December 25, died, was buried
in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days. By the way, December 25 is
also the birthday or Osiris, Adonis, and Dionysus. The newborn Krishna was
presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Even Christianity's weekly holy
day was stolen from the pagans."

It is extremely hard for a Christian believer to process this data, but nonetheless it is
true. All of the "sacred rituals" of Christianity, and all of Christianity's core beliefs (virgin
birth, resurrection, etc.) come straight from pagan religions that were popular around
the time of Jesus. Articles like this and this can help you learn more. Once you
understand the fundamental truth of Christianity's origins, the silliness of this whole
thing becomes apparent.

Obviously the pagan believers, from whom Christianity derived its myths, worshipped
gods that were imaginary. And thus our "God" today is just an extension of these
imaginary forerunners. All human gods are imaginary.
 Understanding the Rationalizations

A Christian will often rationalize this situation by saying, "Yes, the Egyptians and the
Romans worshipped false Gods, but Christianity is real. Just look at the billions of people
who believe in Jesus Christ." This strength-in-numbers rationalization may feel
comforting, but it is meaningless. The fact that millions of people worship a god is
meaningless.

It was once the case that most people believed the world to be flat. Widespread belief
did not change the fact that the world is a sphere. The scientific and observational
evidence that we have available today is undeniable -- the world is a sphere.

All scientific evidence shows that God is imaginary. So does all historical evidence. This
leads any rational person to conclude that Christian beliefs are pure mythology.
Christianity is just like every other mythology that mankind has dreamed up through the
ages.

Proof #4 - Think about science

Notice what happens when anyone is "miraculously cured". A person is sick, the person
prays (or a prayer circle prays for the person) and the person is cured. A religious person
looks at it and says, "God performed a miracle because of prayer!" That is the end of it.

A scientist looks at it in a very different way. A scientist looks at it and says, "Prayer had
nothing to do with it - there is a natural cause for what we see here. If we understand
the natural cause, then we can heal many more people suffering from the same
condition."

In other words, it is only by assuming that God is imaginary that science can proceed.

You can see a direct example of science at work in this article:

Fleming had so much going on in his lab that it was often in a jumble. This
disorder proved very fortunate. In 1928, he was straightening up a pile of Petri
dishes where he had been growing bacteria, but which had been piled in the
sink. He opened each one and examined it before tossing it into the cleaning
solution. One made him stop and say, "That's funny."

Some mold was growing on one of the dishes... not too unusual, but all around
the mold, the staph bacteria had been killed... very unusual. He took a sample of
the mold. He found that it was from the penicillium family, later specified as
Penicillium notatum. Fleming presented his findings in 1929, but they raised little
 interest. He published a report on penicillin and its potential uses in the British
Journal of Experimental Pathology.

Fleming worked with the mold for some time, but refining and growing it was a
difficult process better suited to a chemist. The work was taken over by a team
of chemists and mold specialists, but was cut short when several of them died or
relocated.

In 1935, Australian Howard Florey was appointed professor of pathology at

Oxford University where he headed up a laboratory. This was a daunting task in
an economically depressed time, and seeking funding for the researchers and
work he hoped to do took much of his time. One researcher he hired soon after
his arrival was Ernst Chain. Chain was paid to do cancer research, and work that
spilled over into Florey's own interest and work on lysozyme. Chain became
quite enthusiastic about the search for antibacterial chemicals. In looking back at
old articles written about lysozyme, including those by Fleming in the 1920s, he
happened across Fleming's paper on penicillin. "I had come across this paper
early in 1938 and on reading it I immediately became interested," he wrote.

The Oxford team, as Florey's researchers have become known, began

experimenting with the penicillin mold. They took it one step further than
Fleming did: they did not just try it topically or in a petri dish, but injected it in
live mice. With controlled experimentation, they found it cured mice with
bacterial infections. They went on to try it on a few human subjects and saw
amazing results. By now it was 1941, and England was at war. As Fleming first
foresaw, the wartime need for an antibacterial was great, but resources were
tight and penicillin still very experimental. Florey had connections at the
Rockefeller Foundation in the United States, however, and it funded further
research.

Did Fleming or Floring say, as a religious person would, "The death of this bacteria is a
miracle! God has reached down and killed it!" Of course not. Instead, they completely
ignored "God". They determined what was actually happening through experimentation
and then made useful medicines from the mold. They took a rational approach rather
than a religious approach and we all benefit from penicillin and its many derivatives
today.

All of science works in this way. Only by assuming that God is imaginary and prayer is
meaningless can science proceed.

The reason why scientists must assume that God is imaginary in order for the scientific
method to work is because God is imaginary.
Proof #5 - Read the Bible

Imagine that we are good friends. One day we are talking:

Me: Wow, you will not believe this new book I've been reading!

You: What's it about?

Me: It is a manual for living a better life. It is also a guide to creating a better
society for ourselves and our children. It has changed my life!

You: That sounds like an important book. Who wrote it?

Me: The author is supposed to be the smartest person in the universe.

You: That's amazing -- if the author is the smartest person in the universe, the
book must be absolutely brilliant. I can't wait to see it. Do you have a copy with
you?

Me: Absolutely! I carry it with me everywhere I go! Here, have a look for
yourself...

You open the book to a random page, and you find this:
Any of the people of Israel, or of the aliens who reside in Israel, who give any of
their offspring to Molech shall be put to death; the people of the land shall stone
them to death. I myself will set my face against them, and will cut them off from
the people, because they have given of their offspring to Molech, defiling my
sanctuary and profaning my holy name. And if the people of the land should ever
close their eyes to them, when they give of their offspring to Molech, and do not
put them to death, I myself will set my face against them and against their
family, and will cut them off from among their people, them and all who follow
them in prostituting themselves to Molech.

If any turn to mediums and wizards, prostituting themselves to them, I will set
my face against them, and will cut them off from the people. Consecrate
yourselves therefore, and be holy; for I am the Lord your God. Keep my statutes,
and observe them; I am the Lord; I sanctify you. All who curse father or mother
shall be put to death; having cursed father or mother, their blood is upon them.

If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbour, both the adulterer and
the adulteress shall be put to death. The man who lies with his father’s wife has
uncovered his father’s nakedness; both of them shall be put to death; their
blood is upon them. If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall be
put to death; they have committed perversion; their blood is upon them. If a
 man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an
abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them. [Leviticus,
chapter 20]

You are not quite sure what to say. You look at me for a moment.
You: I thought you said that this is written by the most intelligent person in the
universe. If we are going to follow what this author says, we have to kill half the
people in America. We are supposed to kill everyone who has cursed his father
or mother, everyone who has committed adultery, and every homosexual.

Me: Well, that's in the old testament, you see. The book is really two books, and
the "old" part of the book doesn't really apply.

You: Are you saying that the smartest person in the universe once wanted us to
kill every adulterer and homosexual, but then changed his mind? That somehow
makes it better? If the "old part" no longer applies, then why did you hand it to
me when I asked to see the book?

Me: Well, parts of it do apply.

You: Didn't you just tell me that it doesn't apply?

You open the book to another random page and you find this:
When you buy a male Hebrew slave, he shall serve for six years, but in the
seventh he shall go out a free person, without debt. If he comes in single, he
shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him. If
his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and
her children shall be her master’s and he shall go out alone. But if the slave
declares, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out a free
person’, then his master shall bring him before God. He shall be brought to the
door or the doorpost; and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he
shall serve him for life.

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves
do. If she does not please her master, who designated her for himself, then he
shall let her be redeemed; he shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people,
since he has dealt unfairly with her. If he designates her for his son, he shall deal
with her as with a daughter. If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not
diminish the food, clothing, or marital rights of the first wife. And if he does not
do these three things for her, she shall go out without debt, without payment of
money.

Whoever strikes a person mortally shall be put to death. If it was not

premeditated, but came about by an act of God, then I will appoint for you a
 place to which the killer may flee. But if someone wilfully attacks and kills
another by treachery, you shall take the killer from my altar for execution.

Whoever strikes father or mother shall be put to death.

Whoever kidnaps a person, whether that person has been sold or is still held in
possession, shall be put to death. Whoever curses father or mother shall be put
to death.

When individuals quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone or fist so that
the injured party, though not dead, is confined to bed, but recovers and walks
around outside with the help of a staff, then the assailant shall be free of liability,
except to pay for the loss of time, and to arrange for full recovery.

When a slave-owner strikes a male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies
immediately, the owner shall be punished. But if the slave survives for a day or
two, there is no punishment; for the slave is the owner’s property. [Exodus,
chapter 21]

Again, you are dumfounded. Here the author of the book is advocating slavery, the
branding of slaves, and the wholesale beating of slaves. You are not quite sure what to
say. You look at me for a moment.
You: You have to be kidding me. Here the "smartest person in the universe" is
telling us that slavery is OK and that we are free to beat our slaves.
You open the book to another random page and you find this:
I desire, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands
without anger or argument; also that the women should dress themselves
modestly and decently in suitable clothing, not with their hair braided, or with
gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, but with good works, as is proper for women
who profess reverence for God. Let a woman learn in silence with full
submission. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she is
to keep silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived,
but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. Yet she will be saved
through childbearing, provided they continue in faith and love and holiness, with
modesty. [1 Timothy, chapter 2]
You are nearly speechless. But you manage to find your voice.
You: Is this some kind of joke? "I permit no woman to teach or to have authority
over a man." That is totally sexist! In America, there are millions of female
teachers and we have women throughout our corporate and govenment
hierarchies. No intelligent person believes that women should be silenced.
As you page through the book further you find that it is totally sexist from beginning to
end.
You keep opening the book to random pages, and nearly everything you find is utter
nonsense. Either it is meaningless, completely irrelevant, disgusting or downright
wrong.

If you are a scientist it is even worse, and it starts with the very first line:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth...

That's not true. In the beginning a natural event created the universe as we know it, and
the earth did not form until billions of years later. The creation story in Genesis is
completely wrong. Simply read Genesis and you can see it. For example, the Bible says
that light and darkness are created after the water but before the sun. Everyone knows
that the sun came first, then the planet and its rotation (which is what causes light and
darkness to occur on a daily basis) and then the water, and this all happened over
million of years. There are many other problems with the Bible:

Man did not come from a handful of dust through some mythological being. Man
evolved from other species like every other living thing has for hundreds of
millions of years.
The Bible talks about a world-wide flood that covered earth in 5.5 miles of water
and killed everything, yet we know it never happened. That is clear from the
archeolgical record.
There was no tower of Babel where God confounded the languages of mankind.

The list goes on and on. The Bible is nonsense in a thousand different scientific ways.

Ask yourself this simple question: Why, when you read the Bible, are you not left in
awe? Why doesn't a book written by an omniscient being leave you with a sense of
wonder and amazement? If you are reading a book written by the all-powerful, all-
knowing, all-loving creator of the universe, wouldn't you expect to be stunned by the
brilliance, the clarity and the wisdom of the author? Would you not expect each new
page to intoxicate you with its incredible prose and its spectacular insight? Wouldn't you
expect the author to tell us things that scientists have not been able to discover yet?

Yet, when we open the Bible and actually read it, we find it is nothing like that at all.
Instead of leaving us in awe, it leaves us dumbfounded by all of the nonsense and
backwardness that it contains. If you read what the Bible actually says, you find that the
Bible is ridiculous. The examples shown above barely scratch the surface of the Bible's
numerous problems. If we are honest with ourselves, it is obvious that an "all-knowing"
God had absolutely nothing to do with this book.

The reason why the Bible contains so much nonsense is because God is imaginary. The
Bible is a book written thousands of years ago by primitive men. A book that advocates
senseless murder, slavery and the oppression of women has no place in our society
today.
Proof #6 - Ponder God's Plan

"God's plan" is the way that Christians traditionally explain things like amputations,
cancer, hurricanes and car accidents. For example, if a Christian dies a painful and tragic
death because of cancer, she dies as part of God's plan. Her death has a purpose. God
called her home for a reason. Even if something bad happens to a Christian, it is actually
good because it is part of God's plan.

You can see how pervasive "God's plan" is by looking in Christian inspirational literature.
For example, if we look in the book A Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, we find this
remarkable paragraph in Chapter 2:

Because God made you for a reason, he also decided when you would be born
and how long you would live. He planned the days of your life in advance,
choosing the exact time of your birth and death. The Bible says, "You saw me
before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe.
Every day was recorded in your book!" [Psalm 139:16]
There is also this:
Regardless of the circumstances of your birth or who your parents are, God had
a plan in creating you.
Under this view of the universe, God plans everything.

Take a moment and think about what Rick Warren said. Rick said, "He planned the days
of your life in advance, choosing the exact time of your birth and death." Let's examine
one simple implication of this statement. What this means is that God has pre-planned
every abortion that has taken place on our planet.

If the concept of "God's plan" is true, you can first of all see that God wants us to be
aborting children. Every single abortion is planned by God, so God must be doing it for a
reason. Second, you can see that both the mother who requests the abortion and the
doctor who performs it are blameless. Since it is God who planned the abortion of the
child (God chose the "exact time" of the death, according to Rick Warren), the mother
and doctor are simply puppets who are fulfilling God's plan, are they not? What about
all the Christians who are fighting against abortion? If abortion is part of God's plan, why
are they fighting it? God is the all-powerful ruler of the universe, and his plan is for more
than a million children a year to die in the United States through abortion. [ref] If God's
plan is true, then each one of those abortions was meticulously planned by God.

If God does not intend for us to perform abortions, is Rick Warren then wrong that God
has a plan? If God has a plan, is he not the direct cause of every abortion? Simply think it
through, and you will begin to see the problems in Rick's proposition.
Think about Adolph Hitler. He was evil incarnate, and Hitler is well known for the
atrocious things he did. What I would like you to do right now is to consider this
statement: "Hitler is part of God's Plan." Think about what Rick said:

He planned the days of your life in advance, choosing the exact time of your
birth and death. The Bible says, "You saw me before I was born and scheduled
each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your
book!" [Psalm 139:16]
Rick also says:
God never does anything accidentally, and he never makes mistakes. He has a
reason for everything he creates. Every plant and every animal was planned by
God, and every person was designed with a purpose in mind.
If God has a divine plan for each of us, then he had a divine plan for Hitler too. It is when
you stop to think about it deeply that the contradictions hit you.

Now let's imagine that you say a prayer in this sort of universe. What difference does it
make? God has his plan, and that plan is running down its track like a freight train. If
God has a plan, then everyone who died in the Holocaust died for a reason. They had to
die, and each death had meaning. Therefore, Holocaust victims could pray all day, and
they would still die. The idea of a "plan" makes the idea of a "prayer-answering
relationship with God" a contradiction, doesn't it? Yet Christians seem to attach
themselves to both ideas, despite the irresolvable problem the two ideas create.

Think about what God's plan means for you personally. If the plan happens to say that
you will get hit by a bus tomorrow, or that terrorists will blow you up, or that you will be
shot in the head four times, then that's what will happen. It would be the same with any
disease. If you contract cancer this afternoon and die three months later, that is God's
plan for you. Praying to cure the cancer is a waste. God plans for you to die, so you will
die. He has pre-programmed the exact time of your death. There is nothing you can do
to change the plan -- no amount of prayer will help -- because your death will have
meaning and your death will cause side-effects that are also part of the plan.

Who will you marry? You actually have no choice in the matter. God has pre-planned
your wedding in minute detail. Rick Warren says, "God knew that those two individuals
[your parents] possessed exactly the right genetic makeup to create the custom 'you'
that he had in mind. They had the DNA God wanted to make you." Therefore, your
spouse was pre-chosen by God for you so that you would create the children who are a
part of his plan. You also have no choice in the number of children you will have -- God
has pre-planned their births.

In addition, this sort of universe means that Hitler is blameless. Hitler was not "evil,"
because Hitler had no free will at all. Hitler was simply an actor forced to play his role in
God's plan. God planned for millions of people to die in the Holocaust -- he planned
their deaths in exact detail according to Rick Warren. Hitler had to kill those people.
Hitler was God's puppet in making that those millions of deaths happen right on
schedule.

In the same way then, every murderer is blameless. Since God has planned each of our
deaths in exact detail, murderers are actually essential to God's plan. Why do we punish
them? We should be rewarding them for doing their God-planned duty. What if you get
raped tomorrow and get pregnant? God did that because he planned the exact time of
that child's birth and death. God actually pre-planned your rape, and the rapist was
God's puppet. Rather than hating the rapist, we should celebrate God's plan.

Do you believe that murderers and rapists should be rewarded? Do you believe that
Hitler was sent by God to kill millions of people in the Holocaust? Do you believe that
God is the direct cause of every abortion on this planet? Do you believe that you have
no choice in your spouse or the number of children you have? Probably not. But that is
what you are saying when you state that Hitler or cancer or anything else is part of
"God's plan."

If you think about it as an intelligent person, you will realize that the statement "It is
part of God's plan" is one of those meaningless palliatives. When you sit down and think
it through using your common sense, the statement makes no sense. That lack of sense
shows us how imaginary God is.

Proof #7 - Understanding religious delusion

Let's imagine that I tell you the following story:

There is a man who lives at the North Pole.

He lives there with his wife and a bunch of elves.
During the year, he and the elves build toys.
Then, on Christmas Eve, he loads up a sack with all the toys.
He puts the sack in his sleigh.
He hitches up eight (or possibly nine) flying reindeer.
He then flies from house to house, landing on the rooftops of each one.
He gets out with his sack and climbs down the chimney.
He leaves toys for the children of the household.
He climbs back up the chimney, gets back in his sleigh, and flies to the next
house.
He does this all around the world in one night.
Then he flies back to the North Pole to repeat the cycle next year.

This, of course, is the story of Santa Claus.

But let's say that I am an adult, and I am your friend, and I reveal to you that I believe
that this story is true. I believe it with all my heart. And I try to talk about it with you and
convert you to believe it as I do.

What would you think of me? You would think that I am delusional, and rightly so.

Why do you think that I am delusional? It is because you know that Santa is imaginary.
The story is a total fairy tale. No matter how much I talk to you about Santa, you are not
going to believe that Santa is real. Flying reindeer, for example, are make-believe. The
dictionary defines delusion as, "A false belief strongly held in spite of invalidating
evidence." That definition fits perfectly.

Since you are my friend, you might try to help me realize that my belief in Santa is a
delusion. The way that you would try to do that is by asking me some questions. For
example, you might say to me:

"But how can the sleigh carry enough toys for everyone in the world?" I say to
you that the sleigh is magical. It has the ability to do this intrinsically.
"How does Santa get into houses and apartments that don't have chimneys?" I
say that Santa can make chimneys appear, as shown to all of us in the movie The
Santa Clause.
"How does Santa get down the chimney if there's a fire in the fireplace?" I say
that Santa has a special flame-resistant suit, and it cleans itself too.
"Why doesn't the security system detect Santa?" Santa is invisible to security
systems.
"How can Santa travel fast enough to visit every child in one night?" Santa is
timeless.
"How can Santa know whether every child has been bad or good?" Santa is
omniscient.
"Why are the toys distributed so unevenly? Why does Santa deliver more toys to
rich kids, even if they are bad, than he ever gives to poor kids?" There is no way
for us to understand the mysteries of Santa because we are mere mortals, but
Santa has his reasons. For example, perhaps poor children would be unable to
handle a flood of expensive electronic toys. How would they afford the
batteries? So Santa spares them this burden.

These are all quite logical questions that you have asked. I have answered all of them for
you. I am wondering why you can't see what I see, and you are wondering how I can be
so insane.

Why didn't my answers satisfy you? Why do you still know that I am delusional? It is
because my answers have done nothing but confirm your assessment. My answers are
ridiculous. In order to answer your questions, I invented, completely out of thin air, a
magical sleigh, a magical self-cleaning suit, magical chimneys, "timelessness" and
magical invisibility. You don't believe my answers because you know that I am making
this stuff up. The invalidating evidence is voluminous.

Now let me show you another example...

Another Example

Imagine that I tell you the following story:

I was in my room one night.

Suddenly, my room became exceedingly bright.
Next thing I know there is an angel in my room.
He tells me an amazing story.
He says that there is a set of ancient golden plates buried in the side of a hill in
New York.
On them are the books of a lost race of Jewish people who inhabited North
America.
These plates bear inscriptions in the foreign language of these people.
Eventually the angel leads me to the plates and lets me take them home.
Even though the plates are in a foreign language, the angel helps me to decipher
and translate them.
Then the plates are taken up into heaven, never to be seen again.
I have the book that I translated from the plates. It tells of amazing things -- an
entire civilization of Jewish people living here in the United States 2,000 years
ago.
And the resurrected Jesus came and visited these people!
I also showed the golden plates to a number of real people who are my eye
witnesses, and I have their signed attestations that they did, in fact, see and
touch the plates before the plates were taken up into heaven.

Now, what would you say to me about this story? Even though I do have a book, in
English, that tells the story of this lost Jewish civilization, and even though I do have the
signed attestations, what do you think? This story sounds nutty, doesn't it?

You would ask some obvious questions. For example, at the very simplest level, you
might ask, "Where are the ruins and artifacts from this Jewish civilization in America?"
The book transcribed from the plates talks about millions of Jewish people doing all
kinds of things in America. They have horses and oxen and chariots and armor and large
cities. What happened to all of this? I answer simply: it is all out there, but we have not
found it yet. "Not one city? Not one chariot wheel? Not one helmet?" you ask. No, we
haven't found a single bit of evidence, but it is out there somewhere. You ask me dozens
of questions like this, and I have answers for them all.
Most people would assume that I am delusional if I told them this story. They would
assume that there were no plates and no angel, and that I had written the book myself.
Most people would ignore the attestations -- having people attest to it means nothing,
really. I could have paid the attesters off, or I could have fabricated them. Most people
would reject my story without question.

What's interesting is that there are millions of people who actually do believe this story
of the angel and the plates and the book and the Jewish people living in North America
2,000 years ago. Those millions of people are members of the Mormon Church,
headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. The person who told this incredible story was a
man named Joseph Smith, and he lived in the United States in the early 1800s. He told
his story, and recorded what he "translated from the plates", in the Book of Mormon.

If you meet a Mormon and ask them about this story, they can spend hours talking to
you about it. They can answer every question you have. Yet the 5.99 billion of us who
are not Mormons can see with total clarity that the Mormons are delusional. It is as
simple as that. You and I both know with 100% certainty that the Mormon story is no
different from the story of Santa. And we are correct in our assessment. The invalidating
evidence is voluminous.

Another example

Imagine that I tell you this story:

A man was sitting in a cave minding his own business.

A very bright flash of light appeared.
A voice spoke out one word: "Read!" The man felt like he was being squeezed to
death. This happened several times.
Then the man asked, "What should I read?"
The voice said, "Read in the name of your Lord who created humans from a
clinging [zygote]. Read for your Lord is the most generous. He taught people by
the pen what they didn't know before."
The man ran home to his wife.
While running home, he saw the huge face of an angel in the sky. The angel told
the man that he was to be the messenger of God. The angel also identified
himself as Gabriel.
At home that night, the angel appeared to the man in his dreams.
Gabriel appeared to the man over and over again. Sometimes it was in dreams,
sometimes during the day as "revelations in his heart," sometimes preceded by a
painful ringing in his ears (and then the verses would flow from Gabriel right out
of the man), and sometimes Gabriel would appear in the flesh and speak. Scribes
wrote down everything the man said.
Then, one night about 11 years after the first encounter with Gabriel, Gabriel
appeared to the man with a magical horse. The man got on the horse, and the
 horse took him to Jerusalem. Then the winged horse took the man up to the
seven layers of heaven. The man was able to actually see heaven and meet and
talk with people there. Then Gabriel brought the man back to earth.
The man proved that he had actually been to Jerusalem on the winged horse by
accurately answering questions about buildings and landmarks there.
The man continued receiving the revelations from Gabriel for 23 years, and then
they stopped. All of the revelations were recorded by the scribes in a book which
we still have today.

What do you make of this story? If you have never heard the story before, you may find
it to be nonsensical in the same way that you feel about the stories of the golden plates
and Santa. You would especially feel that way once you read the book that was
supposedly transcribed from Gabriel, because much of it is opaque. The dreams, the
horse, the angel, the ascension, and the appearances of the angel in the flesh -- you
would dismiss them all because it is all imaginary.

But you need to be careful. This story is the foundation of the Muslim religion, practiced
by more than a billion people around the world. The man is named Mohammed, and the
book is the Koran (also spelled Qur'an or Qur'aan). This is the sacred story of the Koran's
creation and the revelation of Allah to mankind.

Despite the fact that a billion Muslims profess some level of belief in this story, people
outside the Muslim faith consider the story to be imaginary. No one believes this story
because this story is a fairy tale. They consider the Koran to be a book written by a man
and nothing more. A winged horse that flew to heaven? That is imaginary -- as imaginary
as flying reindeer.

If you are a Christian, please take a moment right now to look back at the Mormon and
Muslim stories. Why is it so easy for you to look at these stories and see that they are
imaginary fairy tales? How do you know, with complete certainty, that Mormons and
Muslims are delusional? You know these things for the same reason you know that
Santa is imaginary. There is no evidence for any of it. The stories involve magical things
like angels and winged horses, hallucinations, dreams. Horses cannot fly -- we all know
that. And even if they could, where would the horse fly to? The vacuum of space? Or is
the horse somehow "dematerialized" and then "rematerialized" in heaven? If so, those
processes are made up too. Every bit of it is imaginary. We all know that.

An unbiased observer can see how imaginary these three stories are. In addition,
Muslims can see that Mormons are delusional, Mormons can see that Muslims are
delusional, and Christians can see that both Mormons and Muslims are delusional.

One final example

Now let me tell you one final story:

God inseminated a virgin named Mary, in order to bring his son incarnate into
our world.
Mary and her fiancé, Joseph, had to travel to Bethlehem to register for the
census. There Mary gave birth to the Son of God.
God put a star in the sky to guide people to the baby.
In a dream God told Joseph to take his family to Egypt. Then God stood by and
watched as Herod killed thousands and thousands of babies in Israel in an
attempt to kill Jesus.
As a man, God's son claimed that he was God incarnate: "I am the way, the truth
and the life," he said.
This man performed many miracles. He healed lots of sick people. He turned
water into wine. These miracles prove that he is God.
But he was eventually given the death sentence and killed by crucifixion.
His body was placed in a tomb.
But three days later, the tomb was empty.
And the man, alive once again but still with his wounds (so anyone who doubted
could see them and touch them), appeared to many people in many places.
Then he ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of God the father
almighty, never to be seen again.
Today you can have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus. You can pray to
this man and he will answer your prayers. He will cure your diseases, rescue you
from emergencies, help you make important business and family decisions,
comfort you in times of worry and grief, etc.
This man will also give you eternal life, and if you are good he has a place for you
in heaven after you die.
The reason we know all this is because, after the man died, four people named
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John wrote accounts of the man's life. Their written
attestations are proof of the veracity of this story.

This, of course, is the story of Jesus. Do you believe this story? If you are a Christian, you
probably do. I could ask you questions for hours and you will have answers for every
one of them, in just the same way that I had answers for all of the Santa questions that
my friend asked me in Example 1. You cannot understand how anyone could question
any of it, because it is so obvious to you.

Here is the thing that I would like to help you understand: The four billion people who
are not Christians look at the Christian story in exactly the same way that you look at the
Santa story, the Mormon story and the Muslim story. In other words, there are four
billion people who stand outside of the Christian bubble, and they can see reality
clearly. The fact is, the Christian story is completely imaginary.
How do the four billion non-Christians know, with complete certainty, that the Christian
story is imaginary? Because the Christian story is just like the Santa story, the Mormon
story and the Muslim story. There is the magical insemination, the magical star, the
magical dreams, the magical miracles, the magical resurrection, the magical ascension
and so on. People outside the Christian faith look at the Christian story and note these
facts:

The miracles are supposed to "prove" that Jesus is God, but, predictably, these
miracles left behind no tangible evidence for us to examine and scientifically
verify today. They all involved faith healings and magic tricks - see Proof # 14.
Jesus is resurrected, but, predictably, he does not appear to anyone today - see
Proof #15.
Jesus ascended into heaven and answers our prayers, but, predictably, when we
pray to him nothing happens. We can statistically analyse prayer and find that
prayers are never answered - see Proof # 2.
The book where Matthew, Mark, Luke and John make their attestations does
exist, but, predictably, it is chock full of problems and contradictions - see Proof
#5.
And so on.

In other words, the Christian story is a fairly tale, just like the other three examples we
have examined.

Now, look at what is happening inside your mind at this moment. I am using solid,
verifiable evidence to show you that the Christian story is imaginary. Your rational mind
can see the evidence. Four billion non-Christians would be happy to confirm for you that
the Christian story is imaginary. However, if you are a practicing Christian, you can
probably feel your "religious mind" overriding both your rational mind and your
common sense as we speak. Why? Why were you able to use your common sense to so
easily reject the Santa story, the Mormon story and the Muslim story, but when it
comes to the Christian story, which is just as imaginary, you are not?

Try, just for a moment, to look at Christianity with the same amount of healthy
skepticism that you used when approaching the stories of Santa, Joseph Smith and
Mohammed. Use your common sense to ask some very simple questions of yourself:

Is there any physical evidence that Jesus existed? - No. He left no trace. His body
"ascended into heaven." He wrote nothing down. None of his "miracles" left any
permanent evidence. There is, literally, nothing.
Is there any reason to believe that Jesus actually performed these miracles, or
that he rose from the dead, or that he ascended into heaven? - There is no more
of a reason to believe this than there is to believe that Joseph Smith found the
golden plates hidden in New York, or that Mohammed rode on a magical winged
 horse to heaven. Probably less of a reason, given that the record of Jesus' life is
2,000 years old, while that of Joseph Smith is less than 200 years old.
You mean to tell me that I am supposed to believe this story of Jesus, and there
is no proof or evidence to go by beyond a few attestations in the New Testament
of a Bible that is provably meaningless? - Yes, you are supposed to believe it. You
are supposed to take it on "faith."

No one (besides little kids) believes in Santa Claus. No one outside the Mormon church
believes Joseph Smith's story. No one outside the Muslim faith believes the story of
Mohammed and Gabriel and the winged horse. No one outside the Christian faith
believes in Jesus' divinity, miracles, resurrection, etc.

Therefore, the question I would ask you to consider right now is simple: Why is it that
human beings can detect fairy tales with complete certainty when those fairy tales
come from other faiths, but they cannot detect the fairy tales that underpin their own
faith? Why do they believe their chosen fairy tale with unrelenting passion and reject
the others as nonsense? For example:

Christians know that when the Egyptians built gigantic pyramids and mummified
the bodies of their pharaohs, that it was a total waste of time -- otherwise
Christians would build pyramids.
Christians know that when the Aztecs carved the heart out of a virgin and ate it,
that it accomplished nothing -- otherwise Christians would kill virgins.
Christians know that when Muslims face Mecca to pray, that it is pointless --
otherwise Christians would face Mecca when they pray.
Christians know that when Jews keep meat and dairy products separate, that
they are wasting their time -- otherwise the cheeseburger would not be an
American obsession.

Yet, when Christians look at their own religion, they are for some reason blind. Why?
And no, it has nothing to do with the fact that the Christian story is true. Your rational
mind knows that with certainty, and so do four billion others. This book, if you will let it,
can tell you why.

A simple experiment

If you are a Christian who believes in the power of prayer, here is a very simple
experiment that will show you something very interesting about your faith.

Take a coin out of your pocket. Now pray sincerely to Ra:

Dear Ra, almighty sun god, I am going to flip this ordinary coin 50 times, and I am
asking you to cause it to land heads-side-up all 50 times. In Ra's name I pray,
Amen.
Now flip the coin. Chances are that you won't get past the fifth or sixth flip and the coin
will land tails.

What does this mean? Most people would look at this data and conclude that Ra is
imaginary. We prayed to Ra, and Ra did nothing. We can prove that Ra is imaginary (at
least in the sense of prayer-answering ability) by using statistical analysis. If we flip the
coin thousands of times, praying to Ra each time, we will find that the coin lands heads
or tails in exact correlation with the normal laws of probability. Ra has absolutely no
effect on the coin no matter how much we pray. Even if we find a thousand of Ra's most
faithful believers and ask them to do the praying/flipping, the results will be the same.
Therefore, as rational people, we conclude that Ra is imaginary. We look at Ra in the
same way that we look at Leprechauns, Mermaids, Santa and so on. We know that
people who believe in Ra are delusional.

Now I want you to try the experiment again, but this time I want you to pray to Jesus
Christ instead of Ra. Pray sincerely to Jesus like this:

Dear Jesus, I know that you exist and I know that you hear and answer prayers as
you promise in the Bible. I am going to flip this ordinary coin 50 times, and I am
asking you to cause it to land heads-side-up all 50 times. In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
Now flip the coin. Once again, after the fifth or sixth flip, the coin will land tails.

If we flip the coin thousands of times, praying to Jesus each time, we will find that the
coin lands heads or tails in exact correlation with the normal laws of probability. It is not
like there are two laws of probability -- one for Christians who pray and the other for
non-Christians. There is only one law of probability because prayers have zero effect.
Jesus has no effect on our planet no matter how much we pray. We can prove that
conclusively using statitical analysis.

If you believe in God, watch what is happening inside your mind right now. The data is
absolutely identical in both experiments. With Ra you looked at the data rationally and
concluded that Ra is imaginary. But with Jesus... something else will happen. In your
mind, you are already coming up with a thousand rationalizations to explain why Jesus
did not answer your prayers:

It is not his will

He doesn't have time
I didn't pray the right way
I am not worthy
I do not have enough faith
I cannot test the Lord like this
It is not part of Jesus' plan for me
And on and on and on...
One rationalization that you may find yourself developing is particularly interesting. You
may say to yourself: “Well, of course Jesus doesn’t answer me when I pray about a coin
toss, because it is too trivial." Where did this rationalization come from? If you read
what Jesus says about prayer in the Bible (see Proof # 2), Jesus does not ever say, "don't
pray to me about coin tosses." Jesus clearly says he will answer your prayers, and he
puts no boundaries on what you may pray for. You invented this rationalization out of
thin air.

You are an expert at creating rationalizations for Jesus. The reason you are an expert is
because Jesus does not answer any of your prayers (see Proof # 2). The reason why
Jesus does not answer any of your prayers is because Jesus and God are imaginary.

Proof #8 - Think about Near Death Experiences

Many Christians find the phenomenon of Near Death Experiences (NDEs) to be proof
that "God" and the "afterlife" exist. As described in this article, an NDE contains these
characteristics:

The sudden awareness that one has had a 'fatal" accident and not survived.
An out-of-body experience. A sensation of floating above one's body and seeing
the surrounding area.
Pleasant feelings, calmness.
A sensation of moving upwards through a tunnel or narrow passageway.
Meeting deceased relatives or spiritual figures
Encountering a being of light, or a light (possibly a religious figure, i.e. Jesus, God,
Buddha)
Being given a life review
A feeling of being returned to the body, often accompanied by a reluctance to
return

Things like heart attacks, near-drowning and severe loss of blood can all trigger near
death experiences.

NDEs have been experienced by thousands of people and have been widely cataloged in
a variety of books. Many of these books are "spiritual" or "religious" in nature.

What is not mentioned is that there is a drug called Ketamine that produces all of the
elements of an NDE when it is injected into normal, non-dying people. In other words,
an NDE is a natural, chemically induced state that the human brain enters. The trigger
for an NDE is lack of oxygen to the brain and body. If you read scientific papers like
these, you find that there is a completely chemical and completely non-spiritual reason
for the features of every NDE.
Is this a direct proof that God is imaginary? No. However, it is a direct proof that the
NDE (which many people use as "indisputable" proof that God and eternal life exist) has
no supernatural meaning. We can scientificaly prove NDEs to be chemical side-effects
rather than "a gateway to the afterlife" as many religious believers claim.

Proof #9 - Understand ambiguity

Let's imagine that you have cancer and that you are a believer. You pray to God for a
cure, you undergo surgery and chemotherapy, and the cancer does in fact go into
remission.

What cured you? Was it the chemotherapy, or was it God?

In other words, is there any way to know whether God is playing a role or not when we
pray?

The problem is that, in this imagined case, there is ambiguity. The Christian believes that
God answered the prayer, but it could also be a simple coincidence.

All scientific evidence clearly indicates that it is, in fact, a coincidence. Whenever we do
a scientific experiment on the efficacy of prayer, the data shows no effect from prayer
(see this proof). Scientific evidence indicates that "answered prayers" really are
coincidences every single time.

So how do we figure this out? Is God answering prayers as Christians believe, or is it

coincidence as science indicates?

The way to answer that question is to remove the ambiguity. We make it impossible for
the "answered prayer" to be a coincidence, and then we see what happens.

The way to remove the ambiguity is to say a prayer that cannot be answered by
coincidence. For example, instead of praying that God cures one person's cancer, pray
that God eliminates all cancer tomorrow. There is only one way for that to happen. God
would have to exist, and God would have to reach down from heaven and explicitly
work a miracle on earth.

What we find whenever we perform an unambiguous experiment like this is that God
never answers unambiguous prayers. Jesus promises in many places in the Bible that he
will answer prayers -- even impossible prayers. But what you find whenever you put
Jesus to the test is that Jesus is making a false promise.

What we find is that God never answers impossible prayers - even if the prayers are
incredibly worthy. For example:
 Pray to God to levitate a car and hold it floating in the air for ten minutes. It will
not happen, even if you are praying to levitate the car because a drunk driver has
run over a college freshman and she is currently pinned under one of the wheels.
Pray to God to let you fly through the air like Superman. It will not happen, even
if you are praying to fly like superman so that you can rise up to a tenth story
window and save two children from their burning apartment.
Pray to God to fill your basement with $100 million in small unmarked bills. It will
not happen, even if you plan to donate the $100 million that God gives you to a
worthy and deserving charity.
Pray to God to restore the amputated limbs of a deserving, penitent believer. It
will not happen, no matter how sincere you are in your prayer.

None of these prayers will ever be answered. We know that with certainty. If they were
answered, we would see people flying thought the air like Superman on the evening
news. We would see amputated limbs regenerating all the time. Every Christian charity
would be fully funded and there would not be 10 million children starving to death
every year. [ref]

These unambiguous prayers are how we know, for sure, that God/Jesus are not actually
answering prayers. The scientific evidence is correct. "Answered prayers" are nothing
more than simple coincidences every single time. The whole idea of "God answering
prayers" is a complete illusion because God is imaginary.

Proof #10 - Watch the offering plate

Have you ever thought about the offering plate in church? If God is real, why do they
have to pass it? If you read these verses in the Bible, you can see that God claims to be
extremely powerful and willing to answer any prayer:

Matthew 7:7
Matthew 17:20
Matthew 21:21
Mark 11:24
John 14:12-14
Matthew 18:19
Mark 9:23
Luke 1:37

Now consider this: Why don't the ministers and deacons of the church gather together
every Sunday morning and pray to Jesus for the money they need? Why doesn't Jesus
answer their prayers? Why do churches have to beg for money from mere mortals when
there is an immortal, all-powerful God who should provide anything they ask for? Here
is what "God" is saying:
 Pray to me for anything and I will hear and answer your prayers. I say it in dozens
of places in the Bible, but I like the way I say it in Mark 11:24 the best:
"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received
it, and it will be yours." Anything you need -- money, love, happiness, you name
it -- I am here to provide it for you.

Now, there is just one thing I need in return. I need your money. I need lots of
your money. The Bible specifies that you tithe ten percent of your income to me,
but think of that as a starting point. Feel free to give more!

Because even though I created the universe and everything in it, and even
though I will give you everything you ask for in prayer, I can't give a cent to any
church, ever. When they pass the offering plate at church, be sure to give
generously!

This, of course, is ridiculous.

The reason why they pass the offering plate at church is because God is imaginary.

Understanding the Rationalizations

A Christian might say, "God does answer the minister's prayers -- he sends people to
give money to the church!" If this is the case, then the people are puppets, and God is
stealing their money by forcing them to give it to the church. The absurdity of that
situation is obvious.

If God were answering the prayers of the minister, there would be no need for the
offering plate. God would provide the money that the church needs, not people.

Proof #11 - Notice that there is no scientific evidence

There is no scientific evidence indicating that God exists. We all know that. For example:

God has never left any physical evidence of his existence on earth.
None of Jesus' "miracles" left any physical evidence either. (see this page)
God has never spoken to modern man, for example by taking over all the
television stations and broadcasting a rational message to everyone.
The resurrected Jesus has never appeared to anyone. (see this page)
The Bible we have is provably incorrect and is obviously the work of primitive
men rather than God. (see this page)
When we analyze prayer with statistics, we find no evidence that God is
"answering prayers." (see this page)
 Huge, amazing atrocities like the Holocaust and AIDS occur without any response
from God.
And so on…

Let's agree that there is no empirical evidence showing that God exists.

If you think about it as a rational person, this lack of evidence is startling. There is not
one bit of empirical evidence indicating that today's "God", nor any other contemporary
god, nor any god of the past, exists. In addition we know that:

1. If we had scientific proof of God's existence, we would talk about the "science of
God" rather than "faith in God".
2. If we had scientific proof of God's existence, the study of God would be a
scientific endeavor rather than a theological one.
3. If we had scientific proof of God's existence, all religious people would be
aligning on the God that had been scientifically proven to exist. Instead there are
thousands of gods and religions.

The reason for this lack of evidence is easy for any unbiased observer to see. The reason
why there is no empirical evidence for God is because God is imaginary.

Understanding the Rationalizations

The most common rationalization for the lack of scientific evidence is the "God must
remain hidden" argument. See this proof for details.

Many believers try to rationalize God's existence by saying something like this: "The
existence of the universe proves God's existence. Something had to create the universe.
Science has no explanation for the universe's creation. Therefore, God created it."

The way to understand that this is a rationalization is to look back in history. Ancient
people, before they had science, explained many things that they did not understand
with "gods." There have been sun gods, thunder gods, fertility gods, rain gods, etc.

The Bible works the same way. It tries to explain many things that its ancient authors did
not understand by attributing them in God. For example, if you read Genesis 9:12-13
you will find this:

And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant which I make between me and
you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I set my
bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the
earth..."
This is the Bible's explanation of rainbows. Of course we now know that rainbows are a
prismatic effect of raindrops. In the same way, Genesis chapter 3 tries to explain why
human childbirth is so painful and Genesis chapter 11 tries to explain why there are so
many human languages. These are myths, nothing more.

In the same way, Genesis chapter 1 contains the Bible's creation myth. The creation of
the universe and life is attributed to God. We already know that God had nothing to do
with the creation of life (click here), but religious people still try to attribute the creation
of the universe to God.

The fact is, God had nothing to do with the creation of the universe, in the same way
that God has nothing to do with the sun rising or rainbows appearing. Science does not
have a complete explanation for the universe's creation, yet. While it is true that science
does not yet know everything there is to know about the universe, scientists will
eventually figure it out. When they do, what they will find is that nature created the
universe, not an imaginary being.

Proof #12 - See the magic

When you look at different religions, they usually contain "magic." For example:

The Mormon religion contains the magical golden plates, the magical angel, the
magical seer stones, the magical ascension of the plates into heaven, etc.
The Muslim faith contains the magical angel, the magical flying horse, the
magical voices, the magical prophet, etc.
The Christian faith contains the magical insemination, the magical star, the
magical dreams, the magical miracles, the magical resurrection, the magical
ascension and so on.

The presence of "magic" is a clear marker for "imaginary." For example, how do we
know that Santa is imaginary? Because (among other things) he has eight magical flying
reindeer. How do we know that Jack and the Beanstalk is a fairy tale? Because (among
other things) the story contains magical seeds. In the same way, how do we know that
God is make believe? Because God is surrounded by magic.

According to believers, God is an all-powerful being who has the divine, magical power
to do anything. How do we know that this belief is a fairy tale? One way to know is to try
to invoke God's magical power. For example, as described in Proof #1, the Bible tells us
in many places that God answers prayers. However, whenever we try to pray, we notice
that nothing happens (See Proof #1 and Proof #2). That tells us that God is completely
imaginary. The magical powers ascribed to him are a fairy tale.

Another way to know is to read the stories of magical events in the Bible. There is the
magical flood, yet we know with certainty that the flood never happened. There are the
magical miracles of Jesus, but (predictably) none of these miracles left behind any
tangible evidence (see Proof #14). There is the magical resurrection, yet there is zero
evidence that it ever occured and no reason to believe it (See Proof #15).

God is identical to Leprechauns, mermaids and Santa. God is a magical fairy tale
creature. The magic surrounding God tells us that God is imaginary.

Proof #13 - Take a look at slavery

Here are ten passages from the Bible that clearly demonstrate God's position on slavery:

Genesis chapter 17, verse 12:

And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in
your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any
stranger, which is not of thy seed. He that is born in thy house, and he that is
bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised.
In this passage God understands that people buy other people and, quite obviously, is
comfortable with the concept. God wants slaves circumcised in the same way as non-
slaves.

Exodus chapter 12 verse 43:

The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, "These are the regulations for the Passover:
No foreigner is to eat of it. Any slave you have bought may eat of it after you
have circumcised him, but a temporary resident and a hired worker may not eat
of it.
God again shows that he is completely comfortable with the concept of slavery and
singles out slaves for special treatment.

Exodus Chapter 21, verse 1:

Now these are the ordinances which you shall set before them. When you buy a
Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for
nothing. If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then
his wife shall go out with him. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him
sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master's and he shall go
out alone. But if the slave plainly says, 'I love my master, my wife, and my
children; I will not go out free,' then his master shall bring him to God, and he
shall bring him to the door or the doorpost; and his master shall bore his ear
through with an awl; and he shall serve him for life.
Here God describes how to become a slave for life, and shows that it is completely
acceptable to separate slaves from their families. God also shows that he completely
endorses the branding of slaves through mutilation.
Exodus Chapter 21, verse 20:

If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct
result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up
after a day or two, since the slave is his property.
Not only does God condone slavery, but he is also completely comfortable with the
concept of beating your slaves, as long as you don't kill them.

Exodus Chapter 21, verse 32:

If the bull gores a male or female slave, the owner must pay thirty shekels of
silver to the master of the slave, and the bull must be stoned.
Not only does God condone slavery, but here God places a value on slaves -- 30 shekels
of silver. Note that God is not sophisticated enough to understand the concept of
inflation. It is now 3,000 years later, and a gored slave is still worth 30 shekels of silver
according to God's word.

Leviticus Chapter 22, verse 10:

No one outside a priest's family may eat the sacred offering, nor may the guest
of a priest or his hired worker eat it. But if a priest buys a slave with money, or if
a slave is born in his household, that slave may eat his food.
Here God shows that the children of slaves are slaves themselves, and that he is
completely happy with that concept.

Leviticus Chapter 25, verse 44:

Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from
them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents
living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will
become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property
and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow
Israelites ruthlessly.
Here God states where you may purchase your slaves, and clearly specifies that slaves
are property to be bought, sold and handed down.

Luke, Chapter 7, verse 2:

Now a centurion had a slave who was dear to him, who was sick and at the point
of death. When he heard of Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him
to come and heal his slave. And when they came to Jesus, they besought him
earnestly, saying, "He is worthy to have you do this for him, for he loves our
nation, and he built us our synagogue." And Jesus went with them. When he was
not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, "Lord,
 do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof;
therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my
servant be healed. For I am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me:
and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to
my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it." When Jesus heard this he marveled at him,
and turned and said to the multitude that followed him, "I tell you, not even in
Israel have I found such faith." And when those who had been sent returned to
the house, they found the slave well.
Here Jesus shows that he is completely comfortable with the concept of slavery. Jesus
heals the slave without any thought of freeing the slave or admonishing the slave's
owner.

Colossians, chapter 3, verse 22:

Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not with
eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing the Lord.
Whatever your task, work heartily...

Here God shows that he is in complete acceptance of a slave's position, and encourages
slaves to work hard. This sentiment is repeated in Titus, chapter 2 verse 9:

Bid slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every

respect; they are not to be refractory, nor to pilfer, but to show entire and true
fidelity.
Once again God shows that he is quite enamored of slavery.

God loves slavery

If the Bible is written by God, and these are the words of the Lord, then you can come to
only one possible conclusion: God is an impressive advocate of slavery and is fully
supportive of the concept.

As you can see, these slavery passages present us with an immense contradiction:

On the one hand, we all know that slavery is an outrage and a moral
abomination. As a result, slavery is now completely illegal throughout the
developed world.
On the other hand, most Christians claim that the Bible came from God. In God's
Word, the "creator of the universe" states that slavery is perfectly acceptable.
Beating your slaves is fine. Enslaving children is fine. Separating slave families is
fine. According to the Bible, we should all be practicing slavery today.

The intensity of this contradiction is remarkable. It shows us quite clearly that God is
imaginary.
If God were to exist, and if he were playing any role whatsoever on our planet, he would
eliminate this connection between himself and slavery. There is no way that a loving
God would allow himself to be perceived as condoning and encouraging slavery like this.

Here is the thing that I would like to help you understand: You, as a rational human
being, know that slavery is wrong. You know it. That is why every single developed
nation in the world has made slavery completely illegal. Human beings make slavery
illegal, in direct defiance of God's word, because we all know with complete certainty
that slavery is an abomination.

What does your common sense now tell you about a Bible that supports slavery in both
the Old and the New Testaments? Given the fact that the Bible clearly condones slavery,
your common sense should be telling you that God is imaginary.

Understanding the Rationalizations

Many believers will argue that God had to talk this way in the Old Testament in order to
"fit in" with the dominant culture. This, of course, is silly. In Christian mythology, God is
the one who created humans and human culture. In addition, a God that condones the
beating of slaves and the enslavement of children at any time is an abomination.

A believer might say, "Well, all of those verses are from the Old Testament and no
longer apply because of Jesus." This line of rationalization prompts several obvious
questions. Why would the Old Testament still be printed in the Bible if Jesus overturned
it? Why would God EVER tell us to beat slaves?

The most important thing that this line of rationalization misses is that Jesus specifically
states that the laws of the Old Testament still stand. In Matthew 5:18 Jesus says:

For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one
stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.
Then he goes on to say:
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and
teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but
whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of
heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and
Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
According to Jesus, the Old Testament is alive and well. According to Isaiah 40:8, "the
word of our God stands forever." The notion that these old testament verses no longer
apply is completely untrue according to the Bible. Christians imagine that they "no
longer apply" as a way of rationalizing their religion.
Other believers rationalize that God did not write these slavery passages in the Bible.
The Bible was somehow corrupted by slave-loving men. In that case, the obvious
question to ask yourself is this: If the Bible has been corrupted, how can we possibly
know which parts of the Bible came from God and which parts were inserted by
primitive men? You have absolutely no way to know.

It is when you start thinking about the Bible in this way that you understand something
very important about the Bible. Either the entire Bible really is God's Word, or the entire
Bible was written by primitive men with absolutely no input from God. Here is the
reason for this very strong dividing line:

If part of the Bible came from God and part came from primitive men, you do not
know which is which. You dod not know if Jesus really is resurrected, or if that's
just a make-believe story inserted by primitive men. How do you know if God
wrote the Ten Commandments or not? If any part of the Bible has been polluted
by primitive men, you have to reject the whole thing. There is no way to know
who wrote what, so the entire book is invalid.
There really is no middle ground and the Bible has to be an all-or-nothing book. Either
the entire Bible came from God, or none of it did.

With this all-or-nothing reality about the Bible now understood, you can see that there
are only two possible explanations for the slavery passages in the Bible:

The Bible is right, and God loves slavery. The entire Bible is God's word, so these
slavery passages must be God's word too. The laws in the United States and
other modern nations that make slavery illegal defy God's word. Justice Scalia
should be promoting slavery in exactly the same way that he promotes the Ten
Commandments.
The Bible condones slavery because the Bible was written by slave-owning men,
not by God. God is imaginary.

Chances are that you have a problem with the first explanation. God would not
champion the abomination that is slavery. We all know that.

Therefore, what you are left with is the second explanation.

Proof #14 - Examine Jesus' miracles

If someone were to come to you today and say, "I am God!", what would you do? Yes,
you would immediately ask for proof. Of course you would. And you would not want
goofy proof.You would want real, solid, tangible proof.
No normal person, and I mean no one, would accept anything less than rock solid proof
from a person who claims to be God.

Why should it be any different with Jesus? Jesus was a man who claims to be God. If he
is God, then he ought to be able to prove it in a real, inimitable way. If he cannot prove
it then, quite clearly, he is not God.

A Christian would say, "But Jesus HAS proven it! Just look at all of the miracles he did in
the Bible! He healed the sick! He changed water into wine! That PROVES that Jesus is
the Lord!" Does that make sense to you? Imagine that someone, today, were to come
up to you and say, "I am God, and I will prove that I am God by healing the sick and
turning water into wine!" What would you say? Be honest. You would not believe this
person because:

1. Everyone has seen all sorts of "faith healers" who can "heal" the sick. And we all
know that this sort of "healing" is quackery. If it were true, then we would not
need doctors, hospitals or prescription medicines.
2. Turning water into wine... Doesn't that sound like something that a B-grade
David-Copperfield-wannabe magician would do in a nightclub act? There are a
dozen ways that you could stage things to make it look like water is turning into
wine. There is no reason why a normal person would accept a magic trick as
proof that someone is God.
3. Neither of these miracles can be scientifically tested today. Not one of Jesus'
miracles left any tangible evidence for scientists to study.

It is as simple as that. If someone claimed to be God today, you would never believe it if
the evidence consisted of faith healing and magic tricks. Never. Yet billions of people
claim that Jesus' faith healing and magic tricks prove that he is God.

Let's imagine that Jesus truly is God. What might he have done to prove it? He could
have started by taking one of his most famous quotes from the Bible and acting on it. In
Matthew 17:20 Jesus says quite clearly:

For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to
this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be
impossible to you.
To prove that he is God, Jesus would have moved a mountain. Especially since it is so
easy. And Jesus would have written something down to explain himself. Here's what the
first page of Jesus' book might have looked like:
My name is Jesus, and I am God. I know there are a lot of people out there who
will doubt that I am God, so let me start off by proving it to you. Take a look at
Mount Sinai. Everyone knows that, until today, Mount Sinai stood near here. It is
the mountain where God, my father, gave Moses the Ten Commandments.
 Mount Sinai vanished this morning, and what was left in its place was a perfectly
smooth, polished stone base measuring four miles square. Hundreds of years
from now, people will find that Mount Sinai landed near a place that will be
called Newark, New Jersey. When scientists dig into the mountain, they will find
that the bottom of the mountain is also completely smooth and polished, and
that the bottom of the mountain in New Jersey perfectly matches the polished
plain nearby. Scientists will be able to align the mountain and the plain, looking
at it rock crystal by rock crystal at a microscopic level. I have said many times
that, if you have faith, you can move mountains. I moved Mount Sinai to show
how easy it is, and to prove that I am God.

I know that that may not be enough, so let me offer a second proof. If you draw
a circle, you know that there is distance across the circle. Let us call it the
diameter of the circle. There is also a distance around the outside of the circle.
Let us call it the circumference. If you divide the circumference by the diameter,
you get another number. Let us call it Pi, and its first 6 digits are 3.14159. Pi is an
irrational number. It is a number that is made up of an infinite number of non-
repeating digits.

There will come a day when machines called computers will calculate billions of
digits of Pi. If you calculate Pi out to the millionth trillionth digit, here is what you
will find:

9823456451237823492278583495083498745....

Now, having proven that I am God to any rational being, through my

documentable movement of a mountain and through my foreknowledge of Pi at
the millionth trillionth position, here is what I want to say to the human race as
your creator, and as the creator of the universe...

Wouldn't that be awesome and amazing? If we had such a book, and if Mount Sinai had
actually moved, then there would be no questions about Jesus. We would all believe
that he is God. How could we not? Imagine what such a book would say on the following
pages. A book like that, I am sure, would leave all of us in awe.

Why would Jesus not do that? God, supposedly, has already written a book called the
Bible. And God, supposedly, has already done all sorts of things according to that book.
God, supposedly, parted the Red Sea, carved the Ten Commandments into stone, went
to the trouble to incarnate himself, etc. So why not have Jesus write a book, and leave
behind real, tangible evidence for all of us to see?

For any normal, rational person, the reason is obvious -- God is imaginary. We would not
believe that anyone today is God without concrete proof. Jesus doesn't get a pass
because he lived 2,000 years ago. Jesus, if he existed at all, was a human being just like
you and me. All of the stories in the Bible are just that -- stories.

Understanding the Rationalizations

If you ask a religious person about Jesus' divinity, you may find yourself in a
conversation like this:

Norm: If Jesus is God, why didn't Jesus ever prove that he is God?

Chris: He did! He performed many miracles, and he was resurrected. That proves
that he is God!

Norm: Why did he not prove that he is God in a way that is definitive and
scientifically provable -- for example, by moving a mountain?

Chris: He could not do that! That would take away man's free will to believe in
him. People must come to God through faith.

Norm: Why, then, did Jesus perform the miracles described in the Gospels?

Chris: To prove that he is God. If he had not done the miracles, culminating in his
final most miraculous resurrection, we would not know that he is God.

Norm: I thought that if Jesus performed miracles to prove that he was God, then
it took away our free will.

Chris: No.

Norm: Isn't that what you just said?

Chris: No. What I just said is that Jesus' miracles prove that he was God.

Norm: So why didn't Jesus perform real, concrete miracles like moving a
mountain?

Chris: Because that would take away our free will.

Try having this conversation yourself with a Christian and you will find it to be a very odd
discussion. The circular logic will make you dizzy:

Jesus had to perform miracles to prove his divinity, and that doesn't take away
 free will...
...But if Jesus performed miracles that we could see and scientifically verify, it
would take away free will.

Any unbiased observer can see reality. The reason why Jesus did not perform concrete,
verifiable miracles is because Jesus was a man like any other.

Here is another rationalization that believers will frequently use to try to explain Jesus'
behavior. In the book "The Case for Faith," the author Lee Stroble interviews Peter
Kreeft, Ph.D. Dr. Kreeft says the following:

"Scripture describes God as a hidden God. You have to make the effort of faith to
find him. There are clues you can follow. And if that weren't so, if there was
something more or less than clues, it's difficult for me to understand how we
could really be free to make a choice about him."
Clues? Hidden? According to the Bible God incarnated himself. He created an entire
human being named Jesus. That is not a "clue" -- that is a huge, obvious piece of
evidence. It is very hard to "hide" a 170-pound human being who is running around
performing miracles on every street corner. Then you collect the stories of those
miracles and publish them in a book. Where is the hiding in that?

There are examples of God's desire for publicity throughout the Bible. The best known is
God's parting of the Red Sea in the book of Exodus, chapter 14:

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD drove the sea
back by a strong east wind all night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters
were divided. And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry
ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.
That is impressive, and it is utterly obvious. Thousands of Israelites witnessed this event.
There are many other events that are equally obvious: manna from heaven, the Ten
Commandments carved onto stone tablets, the Passover massacre and so on. All of it is
described in the Bible, which God wrote so that billions of people can read about these
events and experience them vicariously today.

It is pretty hard to hide something that you do in front of thousands of people and then
describe and publish in billions of books. Clearly God is not a hidden God.

But there is an even more impressive sign that we often forget. If God exists and God
wrote the Bible, then rainbows are actually proof that God exists. God is not hiding at
all. If you read Genesis 9:12-13 you will find this:

And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant which I make between me and
you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I set my
 bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the
earth..."
What could be more obvious than that? God left a sign for all future generations,
according to the Bible. Clearly God does not want to hide.

There are also plenty of cases in the New Testament. For example, Matthew, Chapter
17:

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured
before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the
light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up
three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah."

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the
cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to
him!"

These are not exactly the actions of a God in hiding. Apparently the free wills of Peter,
James and John were not that important to God. And again it is published in the Bible so
that billions of other people can read about it.

Or take this passage from the book of Matthew, Chapter 3:

As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment
heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and
lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with
him I am well pleased."
Again, not exactly a hidden God.

Or this passage from the book of Luke, Chapter 2:

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over
their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the
Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them,
"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the
people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ
the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and
lying in a manger."

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel,
 praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men
on whom his favor rests."

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one
another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the
Lord has told us about."

The free will of the shepherds was certainly tarnished a bit here.

In 1 Corinthians 15:6, Paul says,

Then he [Jesus, after the resurrection] appeared to more than five hundred
brethren at one time.
Those 500 people must have lost their free will. And John says:
Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I
suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that
would be written. (John 21:25)
That's an awful lot of miracles -- so many that the world would not have room for all the
books describing them. Presumably at least one person witnessed each miracle. Think of
how many names fill just one phone book. Now imagine a whole world full of phone
books. That's a lot of people. Weren't all of their free wills affected? How is God hiding if
millions of people saw Jesus and the miracles he performed?

Clearly the notion that "God is hiding" is pure rationalization.

Proof #15 - Examine Jesus' resurrection

Jesus' resurrection after his death is the ultimate and defining proof of Jesus' divinity.
Just about everyone knows the story, which is summarized in the Apostles' Creed. Jesus
was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he arose
again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the
Father Almighty.

There is only one way for Jesus to prove that he rose from the dead. He had to appear
to people. Therefore, several different places in the Bible describe Jesus' appearances
after his death:

Matthew chapter 28
Mark chapter 16
Luke chapter 24
John Chapter 20 and 21

1 Corinthians 15:3-6 provides a nice summary of those passages, as written by Paul:

 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died
for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was
raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared
to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred
brethren at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen
asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one
untimely born, he appeared also to me.
As you can see in this passage, Jesus appeared to hundreds of people a number of
different times.

Being like Paul

When we look at these Bible passages, there is a question that comes to mind -- why did
Jesus stop making these appearances? Why isn't Jesus appearing today?

It really is odd. Obviously Paul benefitted from a personal meeting with the resurrected
Christ. Because of the personal visit, Paul could see for himself the truth of the
resurrection, and he could ask Jesus questions.

So... Why doesn't Jesus appear to everyone and prove that he is resurrected, just like he
appeared to Paul? There is nothing to stop Jesus from materializing in your kitchen
tonight to have a personal chat with you. And if you think about it, Jesus really does
need to appear to each of us. If Paul needed a personal visit from Jesus to know that
Jesus was resurrected, then why wouldn't you?

It is an important question for the following reasons:

We are told by the Bible that Jesus appeared to hundreds of people.

We therefore know that it is OK for Jesus to appear to people -- it does not take
away their free will, for example.
We know that it would be easy for Jesus to appear to everyone all through
history, since Jesus is all-powerful and timeless.
We know that, if Jesus did reappear to everyone, it would be incredibly helpful.
We could all know, personally, that Jesus is resurrected and that Jesus is God. If
Paul (and all the other people in the Bible) needed a personal visit to know that
Jesus was resurrected, then why not you and me?
Yet, we all know that Jesus has not appeared to anyone in 2,000 years.

In other words, there is nothing stopping Jesus from appearing to you, and several good
reasons for him to appear.

Praying to Jesus
What if we pray to Jesus like this: "Dear Jesus, please appear to us, as you did to Paul
and the 500 brethren, so that we can see the evidence of your resurrection. In your
name we pray, amen." Here is what Jesus has promised us in the Bible:

Matthew 7:7 Jesus says:

Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened
to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who
knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will
give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who
are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your
Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
In John chapter 14:14:
Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the
Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
In Matthew 18:19:
Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be
done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in
my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Jesus is actually in our midst. So he is right here already, supposedly. Yet when we pray
to him to physically materialize, nothing ever happens.

Isn't it odd that Nothing happens, given the fact that Jesus promises us that something
will happen? Isn't it odd that nothing happens when, supposedly, Jesus is right here with
us already, and materialization would be trivial for him?

We have created an unambiguous situation where coincidence cannot "answer" the

prayer. The only way for this prayer to be answered is for Jesus to actually,
unambiguously, materialize.

As you think about this, you will realize that Paul's story in the Bible must be false.
Simply look at Paul's story like any judge in a courtroom would. What Paul's story in 1
Cor 15 is suggesting is entirely unprecedented - a man dead three days with mortal
wounds came back to life. Yet:

There is absolutely no evidence that the story is true,

There are many alternative explanations for what Paul is saying. Paul could be
fabricating the story, Paul could have hallucinated or dreamed the meeting, Paul
could have seen an imposter, etc.
In addition, no one is seeing Jesus today, even though it would be trivial and
obvious for Jesus to appear to people today just like he did with Paul.

Given this evidence, rational people would automatically conclude that Paul's story in
the Bible is untrue. There is zero evidence to support Paul's story, zero reason to believe
it, a motive to lie and plenty of alternative explanations. There is also the fact that much
of the rest of the Bible contains provably false stories. Plus the fact that it would be
trivial for Jesus to provide the evidence that Paul needs to confirm his story by
reappearing on earth. Add to that the fact that Jesus has promised to answer our
prayers but refuses to materialize when we pray to him. The only thing to do is to reject
Paul's story. Every bit of evidence points to the fact that the resurrection story is a myth,
nothing more.

Given that the resurrection story is clearly a myth, it means that Jesus (if he existed at
all) was a normal human being, not God. The resurrection clearly did not happen.

And with that, we can see that God himself is imaginary. If God actually did exist and
was playing any role whatsoever on this planet, there is no way that he would allow an
imposter like Jesus.

Understanding the Rationalizations

Many believers will try to rationalize Jesus' absence by pointing to his famous statement
in the Bible, "Happy are those who have not seen yet still believe."

If you think about this statement, what you realize is that it creates the perfect cover for
a scam. Let's say you are Jesus, you are a normal human being, you realize that you are
going to die and you want to cover for this fact. Here is what you would say: "Happy are
those who have not seen yet still believe." What you are saying is, "I exist, and the way I
am going to show you that I exist is by not showing that I exist." For every other object
in the universe, the way that we know it exists is because the object provides evidence
of its existence. If there is no evidence for an object's existence, we call it imaginary (e.g.
Leprechauns). But with Jesus, the lack of evidence is turned into evidence. Quite clever,
but obviously a scam.

You simply need to look at the evidence and accept what it is telling you. If the
resurrection were true, then Jesus would be answering prayers as he promises in the
Bible. He would also appear when people pray to see him. The fact is, as we saw here
and here, there is definitive evidence that prayer accomplishes nothing. It is also
obvious that Jesus is not appearing on earth today.

While we are on the topic of the resurrection, have you ever thought about how odd
the whole crucifixion story is? Imagine the all-powerful, all-knowing creator of the
universe sitting on his magnificent throne in heaven. He looks down onto earth and says
to himself:

Those evil humans down on earth. I hate what they are doing. All this sin...
 Since I am all-knowing I know exactly what the humans are doing and I
understand exactly why they commit each sin. Since I created the humans in my
own image and personally programmed human nature into their brains, I am the
direct author of all of this sin. The instant I created them I knew exactly what
would happen with every single human being right down to the nanosecond
level for all eternity. If I didn't like how it was going to turn out, I could have
simply changed them when I created them. And since I am perfect, I know
exactly what I am doing. But ignore all that. I hate all these people doing exactly
what I perfectly designed them to do and knew they would do from the moment
I created them...

So here's what I am going to do. I will artificially inseminate a virgin. She will give
birth to an incarnated version of me. The humans will eventually crucify and kill
the incarnated me. That will, finally, make me happy. Yes, sending mself down
and having the humans crucify me -- that will satisfy me. I feel much better now.

It makes no sense, does it? Why would an all-knowing being need to have humans kill
himself (Jesus is God, after all) to make himself happy? Especially since it is a perfect
God who set the whole thing in motion exactly the way he wanted it? The story of the
crucifixion is absurd from top to bottom if you actually stop to think about it. By
combining the crucifixion story with the resurrection story, you can see the truth --
"God" is a mythological creature just like every other human god. The entire religious
domain is make believe.

Proof #16 - Contemplate the contradictions

A thoughtful person who thinks about God cannot help but notice the amazing
contradictions. They are everywhere you look.

Here is one very simple example. On the day Moses comes down from Mount Sinai with
the stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments, he discovers that the Israelites
have created a golden calf. To punish the people, Moses gathers a group of men and
takes the following action in the book of Exodus, Chapter 32:

Then he [Moses] said to them, "This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says:
'Each man strap a sword to his side. Go back and forth through the camp from
one end to the other, each killing his brother and friend and neighbor.' " The
Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the
people died.
So... one minute we have God carving into stone, "Thou shalt not kill." Then the next
minute we have God telling each man to strap a sword to his side and lay waste to
thousands. Wouldn't you expect the almighty ruler of the universe to be slightly more
consistent than this? 3,000 dead people is a lot of commandment breaking. Obviously
that is a total contradiction. The reason why you find contradictions like that in the Bible
is because God is imaginary.

When you look at slavery, you get the same feeling of total contradiction. It is obvious to
modern human beings that slavery is an abomination. The fact that God is a huge
proponent of slavery in the Bible shows us that God is imaginary.

A recent issue of Christianity Today featured this cover:

The cover story is: 5 Reasons Torture Is Always Wrong.

If you think about it, you can see the contradiction here. What does God plan to do to
people who do not accept Jesus Christ as their savior? According to the Christian faith,
he plans to torture them for eternity in the fires of hell. Since we all know that torture is
always wrong, we have a contradiction.

According to Genesis, God also tortures all women for eternity with painful childbirth.
For her trangression of eating the fruit, God says to Eve:

"I will greatly increase your pains in Childbearing; with pain you will give birth to
children."
This, of course, is torture. Inflicting excruciating pain on someone as punishment is the
dictionary definition of torture, as you can see here:
tor·ture: Infliction of severe physical pain as a means of punishment or coercion.

So, according to the Bible, God is the universe's all-powerful torturer. Unfortunately,
according to Christianity Today, torture is always wrong. The fact that a perfect God is
doing something that is always wrong shows you the contradiction.

If you would simply look at and accept how obvious these contradictions are, you can
see the truth: God is imaginary. The evidence is all around you.

 Understanding the Rationalizations

It has actually been stated by one reader that Hell does not involve torture. "Hell is
nothing more than a separation from God, not a fiery place of torture," according to the
reader. Therefore, in his mind, he is able to rationalize that God is not a torturer.

In order to believe this rationalization, this reader has to completely ignore the Bible. If
you read the Bible, you cannot miss the fact that Hell is a place of torture. According to
the Bible, Hell is a place of eternal torment. Here are several Bible verses that describe
Hell:

And His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing
floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff
with unquenchable fire. (Matthew 3:12)
The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His
kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, and will cast
them into the furnace of fire; in that place there shall be weeping and gnashing
of teeth. (Matthew 13:41-42)
So it will be at the end of the age; the angels shall come forth, and take out the
wicked from among the righteous, and will cast them into the furnace of fire;
there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 13:49-50)

A place of unquenchable fire is, obviously, a place or torture.

What you need to do is stop rationalizing and accept the evidence that you see
everywhere. God is imaginary. All of the contradictions in your religion prove it.

Proof #17 - Think about Leprechauns

Many believers will say, "It is impossible for you to prove that God (Allah, Ra, Vishnu,
whatever) does not exist. There is no way to prove that something does not exist." This
is a silly argument for the following reason.

Imagine that we have a conversation one day and I say to you, "I believe in the
gerflagenflopple. You cannot prove that the gerflagenflopple does not exist, therefore it
exists." You can see that this is ridiculous. Just because I have invented something out of
thin air does not mean that its non-existence is suddenly unprovable. There has to be
some evidence that the gerflagenflopple exists in order to assert its existence. Since
there is not, it is quite easy to say that the gerflagenflopple is imaginary.

Now let's imagine that we have a conversation one day and I say to you, "I believe in
Leprechauns. You cannot prove that Leprechauns do not exist, therefore they exist."
You actually have heard of Leprechauns. There are lots of books, movies and fairy tales
dealing with Leprechauns. People talk about Leprechauns all the time. Leprechauns
even have a popular brand of breakfast cereal. But that does not mean that
Leprechauns exist. There is no physical evidence for the existence of Leprechauns. Not a
single bit. Therefore, it is obvious to any normal person that Leprechauns are imaginary.

If you think about it, you will realize that there is no difference between God and
Leprechauns. Lots of people talk about God as though he exists, but there is no actual
evidence for God's existence. For example:

God has never left any physical evidence of his existence on earth.
All historical gods were imaginary and we know it. (see this page)
None of Jesus' "miracles" left any physical evidence either. (see this page)
God has never spoken to modern man, for example by taking over all the
television stations and broadcasting a rational message to everyone.
The resurrected Jesus has never appeared to anyone. (see this page)
The Bible we have is provably incorrect and is obviously the work of primitive
men rather than God. (see this page)
When we analyze prayer with statistics, we find no evidence that God is
"answering prayers." (see this page)
Huge, amazing atrocities like the Holocaust and AIDS occur without any response
from God.
And so on…

There is absolutely no evidence indicating that God exists. There is a tremendous

amount of empirical evidence that God does not exist. Therefore we can conclusively
say that God is imaginary. That is the only thing that a rational person can say.

Another angle

Here is a second way to look at the same question.

With every other object and phenomenon in our experience, we use the scientific
method to determine whether it exists or not. For example, X rays are invisible, but we
know that they exist. We can devise scientific experiments to prove that they exist.
Then, once proven to exist, X-rays can be used predictably in all sorts of beneficial ways.

If you would like to hypothesize that God exists, then you should say to yourself, "Let's
devise a repeatable scientific experiment to provide evidence that God exists." Every
experiment we devise demonstrates, yet again, that God is imaginary.

Isn't it odd that God, unlike everything else in our universe, has been put into a special
category? When we talk about God, we are supposed to do so "philosophically." Why?
Why not treat God just like all other objects and devise experiments to detect his
presence or absence?
The classic religious response is, "God must remain hidden. If he proved his existence,
that would take away faith." This is clever -- here we have an object named God that
proves its existence by completely hiding its existence. Of course, in the real world, any
object that provides no evidence for its existence is classified as imaginary.

Even more interesting, this object called God, which is supposedly hiding its existence
completely, is in the meantime supposedly writing books, answering prayers and
incarnating itself. How can that be? This obvious contradiction shows how imaginary
God is. When we look at prayer scientifically, we find that "answered prayers" are
actually nothing but coincidences. When we look at the Bible scientifically, ethically or
rationally, we find that the Bible is wrong. When we look at all of Jesus' miracles
scientifically, we find that none of them left behind any scientific or historical evidence.
Nor, for that matter, did Jesus, nor did Jesus' resurrection. Strangely, not a single
historical source independent of the Bible ever mentions the resurrection.

The reason why we can find no empirical evidence for God's existence is not because
"God is a magical being completely able to hide from us." It is because God is imaginary.

Proof #18 - Imagine heaven

If you talk to a Christian about heaven, you can clearly understand that the notion of
heaven and everlasting life is imaginary. Each conversation will be different, but a
typical conversation might go something like this:

Chris: Jesus transcends death and promises eternal life to all who believe in him!
Lift up your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ and he will give you eternal life!

Norm: How will he do that?

Chris: Have you ever read the book called "Left Behind?"

Norm: No.

Chris: You should! They have sold over 20 million copies of the book, because it
is the truth! It describes exactly what will happen. One day the Lord Jesus calls
his children home, and they are carried straight to heaven! Airplanes crash
because their pilots have vanished. Cars run into phone poles. This is exactly
what is described in the Bible.

Norm: The people completely vanish?

Chris: Yes. All that is left behind is their clothes, their jewelry and their hearing
aids! The believers are transported directly to heaven!
Norm: Their naked bodies are transported to heaven?

Chris: Yes!

Norm: There are six billion people on the planet. They each weigh about 150
pounds or so. Are you telling me that God lifts a trillion pounds of human flesh
off the planet in an instant?

Chris: Absolutely not! Only the believers are transported!

Norm: OK, half a trillion pounds?

Chris: Yes!

Norm: And where does this half a trillion pounds of flesh go?

Chris: To heaven!

Norm: To heaven... where is that?

Chris: It is in another dimension, of course! God lives in heaven!

Norm: How do all the bodies get to this "other dimension" called "heaven"? Do
they float up into the sky and then travel through the vacuum of space?

Chris: No, silly! They are dematerialized and then rematerialize in heaven!

Norm: So you are saying that half a trillion pounds of naked human flesh are
somehow "dematerialized" out of our universe, and then they "rematerialize" in
"another dimension" called "heaven?" And the "dematerializing" process
somehow distinguishes between natural human flesh and unnatural things like
clothing and hearing aids?

Chris: Yes!

Norm: So... what if the person has artificial heart valves, a couple of stents and
two titanium hip joints? Are those ripped out of his body and left behind with his
jewelry?

Chris: Yes!

Norm: And what happens to that poor person, whose heart collapses and whose
legs are now flopping around detached from his pelvis?
Chris: The book doesn't really talk about that... I imagine God would fix them up!

Norm: And what about all the people whose bodies are wracked with cancer and
AIDS and emphysema?

Chris: God fixes them all up too!

Norm: And what about all the decrepit 80-year-old bodies?

Chris: God gives them new, young, beautiful bodies!

Norm: And what about all the people whose bodies have died and decomposed?

Chris: God gives them young, new, beautiful bodies too!

Norm: So why bother transporting the bodies of the believers to heaven? Why
not just give everyone a new, young, beautiful body and leave their old bodies
on earth?

Chris: The Bible says that your body is transported to heaven! It is right there in
black and white in the "Left Behind" books! That is God's will!

Norm: OK, so heaven is full of people whose bodies or corpses or whatever have
been "dematerialized" from earth, and then "rematerialized" in "heaven." And
then the dematerialized/rematerialized bodies are discarded, and they are
replaced with new, young, beautiful bodies?

Chris: Yes! Now you understand the power of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Norm: What happens next?

Chris: The believers all live in heaven in peace, harmony and joy for eternity!

Norm: What is heaven like?

Chris: We get to reunite with all of our dead friends and family members! We get
to meet our ancestors for the first time!

Norm: Really?

Chris: Absolutely!

Norm: What about people like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin?
 Chris: Everyone is there! You can talk to anyone all through history! Plus you get
to meet God and Jesus. I can't wait to meet Jesus!

Norm: That sounds like fun. What else?

Chris: Well, the streets are paved in gold! It says so in the Bible! And everyone
has a big house! And you can eat whatever you want and not get fat! And really,
you just do anything that makes you happy! Everyone is always happy!

And so on.

After listening to a conversation like this, it should be obvious to all of us: Heaven is
imaginary. It is all completely imaginary.

Simply talk to Christians about heaven. Ask them to describe what heaven is like, and
how they will get there. You will be able to feel the absurdity of this notion in two
different ways:

There is the direct absurdity as in the dialog above, where the creation of
entirely new and completely imaginary "dimensions" and "materialization
processes" tells you everything you need to know about how delusional things
can get.
There is also the absurdity that comes when you compare any two people's
views of heaven. Everyone's fabrication of heaven is different. For some it
involves harps and clouds and halos. For others it involves hot and cold running
virgins. For some people, the actual body is transported magically to heaven as
described in the "Left Behind" books. For others, your "soul" floats out of the
body and makes it way to St. Peter. And so on. People make up anything they
like, because heaven is a completely imaginary place.

Heaven is a fairy tale invented by human imagination. And each person's fairy tale is
different.

We imagine that we have "souls," fabricate the concept of "eternal life" and then
fantasize a place called "heaven," complete with streets of gold, calorie-free foods,
frolicking virgins and whatever else we can come up with. Christians imagine it so vividly
and repeat the fantasy so often that they actually believe it to be reality.

How bizarre can the fantasies get? Fly to Cairo and take a look at the Great Pyramid.
There is the pyramid itself -- still one of the largest man-made objects on earth. In
addition there is the whole mummification process, the disassembled boats, the sacred
artwork and so on. All of this was designed to help the pharaoh reach the afterlife. We
look at it now and we all know, with absolute certainty, that it was a complete and total
waste of time. The Egyptian notion of the afterlife was a fantasy.
The Christian notion of the afterlife is a fantasy in exactly the same way. Heaven is
completely imaginary, just like God.

Proof #19 - Notice that you ignore Jesus

Jesus made a number of very clear statements about money and wealth in the Bible. For
example:

Matthew 6:19

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy
and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in
and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Luke 14:33
Any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.
Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other,
or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God
and Money.
Matthew 19:21-24
Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to
the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." When
the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then
Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter
the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the
eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
Matthew 19:28-29
Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the
Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on
twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left
houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake
will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.
Luke 9:23-25
Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will
lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to
gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?
Matt 13: 22
The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears
the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it,
making it unfruitful.
Hebrews 13:5
 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have,
because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
Phil 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others
better than yourselves.
Acts 2:44-45
All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their
possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.
The message is clear. If you want to follow Jesus, you need to "sell your possessions and
give to the poor." It is a very simple message, and easy to do. Have you done it? The fact
that you are reading this page would indicate that you have not. Chances are you own a
computer, pay for an Internet connection every month, live in a home or apartment,
have a car, etc. In other words, you live a life at a level of wealth unimaginable in Jesus'
time. Meanwhile, billions of people on the planet live in startling, abject poverty.

Why don't you sell everything and follow Jesus, as he requests in the Bible? The reason
is simple: Jesus and God are imaginary, and you know it. If Jesus were real, you would
do what he says.

Proof #20 - Notice your church

Here are six important statements about wealth from the Bible:

Matthew 6:19

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy
and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in
and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Luke 14:33

Now, the next time you go to church, look at the building. At any "normal" church in
America, the church building is an immense structure worth significant amounts of
money. Here is a typical church in Raleigh, NC:

The church's web site has this to say: "In May of 1993 the church fellowship voted
unanimously to relocate our church campus. As a result of God's gracious plan, our
Tryon site almost immediately became inadequate to facilitate our growing numbers.
Thus, the church body once again demonstrated its pioneering spirit, faith and vision—
vision to be a church not only blessed with a wonderful past, but faith and trust in God
for an enduring, effective future. As of May 21, 1996, we became the owners of 33 acres
on which to build our new facilities. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!" This
church has soccer fields, indoor basketball courts, dozens of meeting rooms and
classrooms, several buses, a library, a huge sanctuary and ample free parking.

[One obvious question to ask after reading the church's statement is this: If all blessings
flow from God, then why are his blessings so amazingly unbalanced? Why are tens of
thousands of children dying of starvation every day on this planet [ref], while Colonial
Baptist Church is blessed with such wealth? Why wouldn't God spread his blessings
evenly among all his children? Answer: Because God is imaginary.]

If you look at this article you see this description of the Catholic Church: "The Vatican's
treasure of solid gold has been estimated by the United Nations World Magazine to
amount to several billion dollars. A large bulk of this is stored in gold ingots with the U.S.
Federal Reserve Bank, while banks in England and Switzerland hold the rest. But this is
just a small portion of the wealth of the Vatican, which in the U.S. alone, is greater than
that of the five wealthiest giant corporations of the country. When to that is added all
the real estate, property, stocks and shares abroad, then the staggering accumulation of
the wealth of the Catholic church becomes so formidable as to defy any rational
assessment."

The contradiction is startling. No where in Jesus' teachings is it suggested that Christians

should buy land and build church buildings with indoor basketball courts. No where
does Jesus suggest the accumulation of billions of dollars in gold bars. Chistians are
supposed to sell everything and give the money to the poor, according to Jesus. Yet
church congregations do exactly the opposite on a regular basis. Building a large
sanctuary and indoor basketball courts is an exercise in vanity, ego-boosting, selfishness
and human pride. These attributes are the opposite of Jesus' prescriptions and everyone
knows it.

Church congregations regularly and willfully ignore Jesus' teachings because they know
that Jesus is imaginary.
Proof #21 - Understand Jesus' Core Message

Simply take a moment to think about the following statement:

"Hello, my name is Jesus. I love you deeply. I have loved you since you were
conceived in the womb and I will love you for all eternity. I died for you on the
cross because I love you so much. I long to have a loving personal relationship
with you. I will answer all of your prayers through my love. But if you do not get
down on your knees and worship me, and if you do not EAT MY BODY and DRINK
MY BLOOD, then I WILL INCINERATE YOU WITH UNIMAGINABLY TORTUOUS PAIN
IN THE FIRES OF HELL FOR ALL ETERNITY BWAH HA HA HA HA HA!"
Yes, this is the central message of Christianity. See John 6:53-54 and Mark 16:16.

Think about this message. We have a being who, according to the Standard Model of
God, embodies love. Yet, if you do not get down on your knees and worship him, you
will be physically tortured for all eternity. What sort of love is that?

The utter silliness and contradiction of Jesus' core message should make it obvious to
you: God is imaginary.

Proof #22 - Count all the people God wants to murder

If you look in the Bible, there are an amazing number of people that God wants his
followers to murder. For example, in Exodus 35:2 God lays down this commandment:

For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a
Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.
Think about that how many people work on the Sabbath -- all the employees of Wal-
Mart, Target, Best Buy, Home Depot, Linnens & things, grocery stores, convenience
stores, power plants, airlines, hospitals, emergency services and on and on and on.
Don't rabbis, priests and preachers work on the Sabbath? God wants all of them dead.

Then look at Deut 21:18-21. It says:

If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father and
mother, who does not heed them when they discipline him, then his father and
his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his town at
the gate of that place. They shall say to the elders of his town, ‘This son of ours is
stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.’
Then all the men of the town shall stone him to death. So you shall purge the evil
from your midst; and all Israel will hear, and be afraid.
That is a whole lot of teenagers that we need to kill.

Then there is Leviticus 20:13:

 If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an
abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them.
All homosexuals need to be killed. What about this:
If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbour, both the adulterer and
the adulteress shall be put to death.
That's a lot of people who need to be killed.

In other words, if we actually listened to what God says, we would need to kill at least
half of the people in America tomorrow. After all, Isaiah 40:8 says, "The grass withers,
the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand for ever." The word of the Lord tells
us to kill half of the U.S. population.

There are two things in this that show you that God is imaginary. First there is the utter
stupidity of these verses. Second, there is this fact: If God is an all-powerful being, he
would kill them himself. There would be no need for people to do the murdering. These
people would already be dead, and Wal-Mart would be closed on the Sabbath through
lack of employees.

Notice that believers completely ignore these parts of the Bible. That is because they
know that the verses are insane. By acknowledging that their God is insane, they prove
that their God is imaginary.

Proof #23 - Listen to the Doxology

The "Doxology" is a song sung in millions of Christian churches around the world every
Sunday. It opens with this sentence:

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

With that one sentence we can prove that God is imaginary, just like Santa Claus.

We can prove that Santa is imaginary in a variety of ways, but here is one way: we note
that he brings mountains of toys to rich kids while leaving other kids to starve to death.
In the same way, we can prove that God is imaginary by noting the inbalance of his
blessings. If God existed and handed out blessings as described in the Doxology, then
the blessings would be spread uniformly among his believers. And non-believers would
get none. As a result, the hand of God, through his blessings, would be plainly visible for
all to see through statistical analysis.

Let us suppose that God is real and that all blessings actually do flow from him. If that is
the case, then the utter unfairness with which he disperses his blessings is proof positive
that God is ridiculous. If all blessings flow from God, then the fact that Bill Gates is worth
$70 billion while 10 million children will starve to death this year is specifically God's
fault. That is ridiculous.

Proof #24 - Ask why religion causes so many problems

If God were to exist, wouldn't you expect there to be a huge benefit to those who follow
and obey him? Why, instead, do we see the opposite?

For example, there is growing evidence that the delusion of religion causes significant
social dysfunction. Statistical research is revealing the problems that go with religion.
For example, a recent article in the Journal of Religion and Society points out that
religion is correlated to the significant social difficulties that we can see in America:

In general, higher rates of belief in and worship of a creator correlate with higher
rates of homicide, juvenile and early adult mortality, STD infection rates, teen
pregnancy, and abortion in the prosperous democracies (Figures 1-9). The most
theistic prosperous democracy, the U.S., is exceptional, but not in the manner
Franklin predicted. The United States is almost always the most dysfunctional of
the developed democracies, sometimes spectacularly so, and almost always
scores poorly. The view of the U.S. as a “shining city on the hill” to the rest of the
world is falsified when it comes to basic measures of societal health. [ref]
The prevailing view is that religion is harmless even if it is delusional. That turns out not
to be the case. America is the most religious country of those studied in the developed
world. America also has the biggest problems in terms of things like homicide, juvenile
and early adult mortality, STD infection rates, teen pregnancy, and abortion.

This article by Sam Harris puts it this way:

 While most Americans believe that getting rid of religion is an impossible goal,
much of the developed world has already accomplished it. Any account of a “god
gene” that causes the majority of Americans to helplessly organize their lives
around ancient works of religious fiction must explain why so many inhabitants
of other First World societies apparently lack such a gene. The level of atheism
throughout the rest of the developed world refutes any argument that religion is
somehow a moral necessity. Countries like Norway, Iceland, Australia, Canada,
Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands, Denmark and the United
Kingdom are among the least religious societies on Earth. According to the
United Nations’ Human Development Report (2005) they are also the healthiest,
as indicated by measures of life expectancy, adult literacy, per capita income,
educational attainment, gender equality, homicide rate and infant mortality.
Conversely, the 50 nations now ranked lowest in terms of human development
are unwaveringly religious. Other analyses paint the same picture: The United
States is unique among wealthy democracies in its level of religious literalism
and opposition to evolutionary theory; it is also uniquely beleaguered by high
rates of homicide, abortion, teen pregnancy, STD infection and infant mortality.
The same comparison holds true within the United States itself: Southern and
Midwestern states, characterized by the highest levels of religious superstition
and hostility to evolutionary theory, are especially plagued by the above
indicators of societal dysfunction, while the comparatively secular states of the
Northeast conform to European norms. Of course, correlational data of this sort
do not resolve questions of causality--belief in God may lead to societal
dysfunction; societal dysfunction may foster a belief in God; each factor may
enable the other; or both may spring from some deeper source of mischief.
Leaving aside the issue of cause and effect, these facts prove that atheism is
perfectly compatible with the basic aspirations of a civil society; they also prove,
conclusively, that religious faith does nothing to ensure a society’s health.

Countries with high levels of atheism also are the most charitable in terms of
giving foreign aid to the developing world. The dubious link between Christian
literalism and Christian values is also belied by other indices of charity. Consider
the ratio in salaries between top-tier CEOs and their average employee: in
Britain it is 24 to 1; France 15 to 1; Sweden 13 to 1; in the United States, where
83% of the population believes that Jesus literally rose from the dead, it is 475 to
1. Many a camel, it would seem, expects to squeeze easily through the eye of a
needle.

In other words, religion is harmful, not helpful. The reason is because God is imaginary
and religious delusion is hurting all of us.

Proof #25 - Understand evolution and abiogenesis

Recently there has been a remarkable change in the Christian community: Many
members of the Christian faith are embracing evolution. For example, there is this
article:

At Churches Nationwide, Good Words for Evolution: "On the 197th birthday of
Charles Darwin, ministers at several hundred churches around the country
preached yesterday against recent efforts to undermine the theory of evolution,
asserting that the opposition many Christians say exists between science and
faith is false. At St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, a small contemporary structure
among the pricey homes of north Atlanta, the Rev. Patricia Templeton told the
85 worshipers gathered yesterday, 'A faith that requires you to close your mind
in order to believe is not much of a faith at all....' At the Evanston Mennonite
Church, Susan Fisher Miller, 48, an editor and English professor, said, 'I
completely accept and affirm the view of God as creator, but I accommodate
evolution within that.'"
And this letter, signed by more than 10,000 clergy members:
An Open Letter Concerning Religion and Science: "...We the undersigned,
Christian clergy from many different traditions, believe that the timeless truths
of the Bible and the discoveries of modern science may comfortably coexist. We
believe that the theory of evolution is a foundational scientific truth, one that
has stood up to rigorous scrutiny and upon which much of human knowledge
and achievement rests. To reject this truth or to treat it as “one theory among
others” is to deliberately embrace scientific ignorance and transmit such
ignorance to our children..."
The interesting thing to understand is that when you accept evolution, what you are
automatically doing is rejecting the concept of a soul. Here is why: As soon as you
accept that evolution is true, you also accept that the creation story in the Bible is false.
It is pure mythology. The concept of the "soul", which comes from the same book, is
exactly the same sort of mythology.

Simply think through the logic. What the theory of evolution says is that every living
thing on this planet has evolved through a completely natural process. Every species
that we see today is derived from simple, single-cell organisms over the course of
hundreds of millions of years. In other words, there was no supernatural creation
process for humans as described in the Bible's book of Genesis.

As you think about this, what you will realize is that evolved beings have no souls.
Human beings are no different from any other animal, insect, plant or bacteria in the
way that we have evolved. In the same way that every other living thing on planet Earth
is soul-less, humans are soul-less. The whole notion of a soul is a figment of human
imagination.

This makes complete sense. The biochemistry of life powers evolution. That
biochemistry is amazing and complex, but it is nothing more than a set of soul-less
chemical reactions. When the chemical reactions cease, you die. There is no "soul"
mixed in with the chemicals.

Where did the first cell come from? Many believers will argue that God magically
created the first living cell. This, of course, is silly. The scientific principle that describes
the origin of life is called abiogenesis. In the same way that there is no supernatural
being involved in evolution, there is no supernatural being involved in abiogenesis. Both
the creation of life and the evolution of species are completely natural processes.

There is no "supreme being" in heaven who reached down to create life on Earth or
human beings. Nor is that being answering prayers. There is no soul. There is no
everlasting life. Science tells us all of these things with complete clarity. God is
imaginary.

Understanding the Rationalizations

Many believers will say, "This is simply untrue. Even though humans are the product of
evolution, humans are still special in God's eyes. God manipulated the evolutionary
process in some magical way to divinely create human beings, and God magically gives
each human being a soul at conception."

In order to see the truth, you need to understand that all explanations involving "magic"
are false. The fact is, God had absolutely nothing to do with the creation of life on this
planet nor with any part of the evolutionary process. As soon as you accept this fact,
you realize that you have no soul. God is imaginary and the biblical concept of
everlasting life is a fairy tale.

The fact that we exist as a conscious, intelligent, rational species is an accident of nature
that involved no supernatural intervention. There is no part of the scientific explanation
of evolution that says, "a mythical supernatural being reaches in right here and guides
it." Evolution, by its very nature, is a supernatural-free process.

There is no way to simultaneously "accept evolution" and "believe in an everlasting soul

as described in the Bible." If evolution is true, then the Bible describes a creation
process that is a complete myth. The concept of a soul is myth in exactly the same way.

Proof #26 - Notice that the Bible's author is not "all-knowing"

Why, when you read the Bible, are you not left in awe? For example, look though this
small collection of Bible verses:

Deut 25:11-12
 Genesis 38:8-10
Deut 21:18-21
Ex 35:2
Lev 20:13
Isaiah 13:13-16
Exodus 21:20-21
1 Tim 2:11-12
Col 3:22-23
Luke 14:26
Deut 22:13-21
Isaiah 40:8

These verses feel like utter nonsense, don't they? We can find thousands of verses like
these in the Bible.

So we are forced to ask a question: Why doesn't a book written by God leave you with a
sense of wonder and amazement? If you are reading a book written by the all-powerful,
all-knowing, all-loving creator of the universe, wouldn't you expect to be stunned by the
brilliance, the clarity and the wisdom of the author? Would you not expect each new
page to intoxicate you with its incredible prose and its spectacular insight?

Instead, opening the Bible inevitably creates a feeling of dumbfoundment. Have you
ever noticed that? Instead of brilliance, much of the Bible contains nonsense. Several of
the topics of the previous proofs, for example where we discussed the Bible's advocacy
of slavery, are excellent examples. But they are just the tip of the iceberg. You can open
the Bible to almost any page and find nonsense instead of wisdom.

Why, in other words, is the Bible so useless? Why does the author of the Bible, who is
supposed to be God, who is supposed to be all-knowing, know so little? Why is the
knowledge of the author limited to the knowledge of the primitive men who wrote the
book? If you think about what you are reading in the Bible in the context of an all-
knowing God who supposedly wrote it, none of it makes any sense. But if you think
about the Bible as being a book written by primitive men like you would find in the
remote regions of Afghanistan today, it makes complete sense.

The reason is because God is imaginary. "God" had nothing to do with the Bible. The
Bible was written by primitive men, many of who were obviously insane.

Proof #27 - Think about life after death

If you are a Christian, then Jesus promises that your soul will have everlasting life. In
John 3:16 the Bible says: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." All
that you have to do is believe in Jesus and your soul gets to go to heaven.
But have you ever really thought about your soul? Have you ever thought about how
the afterlife would work? Which life forms get an afterlife and which do not?

Start with a bacterium. Does it have a soul and does it get an afterlife? A bacterium is a
cell membrane filled with a variety of molecules. These molecules react together in
different ways to create what we call life. Although all of these molecules are reacting in
fascinating, interlocking ways, they are still nothing more than chemicals reacting. The
"miracle of life" is no miracle -- it is a big chemical reaction. When those reactions stop,
the cell is dead.

Now here is the question: When the bacterium dies, does it get an afterlife?

There are not many people in the United States who believe that bacteria go to heaven.
The Bible does not talk about heaven being filled with all the disease, putrefaction and
pestilence that bacteria cause. And what, exactly, would go to heaven? Do all of the
bacterium's molecules get transported to another dimension so that they can keep
reacting? If that were happening, there would be thousands of tons of chemicals leaving
earth every day. Clearly there is no afterlife for bacteria cells.

What about mosquitoes? A mosquito is much more complex than a bacterium cell. For
one thing, a mosquito is a multi-cellular insect with amazing capabilities. But if you look
at each cell in a mosquito, it is very much like a bacterium in its basic functioning.

Do mosquitoes get an afterlife? Clearly not. Think of how many mosquitoes have lived
and died over the course of millions of years. No one imagines heaven being full of
septillions of everlasting mosquitoes. There is also the problem that we saw with
bacteria -- the only way for a mosquito to go to heaven would be to somehow transport
all the chemicals in a mosquito from earth to heaven.

What about mice? They are no different from mosquitoes. Mice are multicellular
organisms, but each cell is a little chemical factory very much like a bacterium. Dogs?
Ditto. Chimps? Ditto.

So what about humans?

The human body is nothing but a set of chemical reactions. The chemical reactions
powering a human life are no different from the reactions powering the life of a
bacterium, a mosquito, a mouse, a dog or a chimp. When a human being dies, the
chemical reactions stop. There is no "soul" mixed in with the chemicals, just like there is
no soul in a bacterium, a mosquito, a mouse, a dog or a chimp. Why would there be an
afterlife for the chemicals that make up a human body?
The whole notion of your "soul" is completely imaginary. The concept of a "soul" has
been invented by religion because many people have trouble facing their own mortality.
It makes people feel better, but the concept is a complete fabrication.

It is when you think about the chemical reactions powering your life and your brain that
you realize how completely imaginary your "soul" truly is. And at that point, everything
about religion comes unraveled.

Think back to when you were a kid and you realized that Santa was imaginary. As soon
as you knew it, it was obvious. Reindeer cannot fly. A man cannot slide down chimneys.
There is no way for one little sleigh to carry all the toys for all the kids in the world. Etc.
It is obvious that Santa is make believe.

In the same way, it is obvious that human beings are big, walking chemical reactions
(see this article for a description of how the reactions work). Your "soul" is make believe
just like Santa. When the chemical reactions cease, you die. That is the end of it.

Knowing this, you can see that everything about religion is imaginary. God, the Bible,
Jesus, the resurrection, prayer, the Ten Commandments, the creation story, your soul,
everlasting life, heaven... every bit of it is the product of human imagination. The same
goes for Allah, the Koran and so on. As a species we have believed all of this religious
dogma for centuries, and most of us believe it today to some degree. And yet... it is all
fiction. Today's "God" is just as fictional as were the gods of the Egyptians, the Romans
and the Aztecs.

Understanding the Rationalizations

Christians will rationalize the concept of the soul by saying that the soul is a magical
element that has nothing to do with cell chemistry. God divinely "instills the soul in each
of us." According to believers, the soul is of another dimension and therefore is beyond
science.

Whenever you hear people talking about "magic" and "other dimensions", it is a clear
marker for delusion. It is as simple as that. The soul is a completely imaginary concept,
as is God.

Proof #28 - Notice how many gods you reject

There are literally thousands of religions being practiced today. Here are 20 of the most
popular, along with an estimate of the number of followers:

1. Christianity: 2.1 billion

 2. Islam: 1.3 billion
3. Hinduism: 900 million
4. Chinese traditional religion: 394 million
5. Buddhism: 376 million
6. African Traditional & Diasporic: 100 million

If you believe in God, you have chosen to reject Allah, Vishnu, Budda, Waheguru and all
of the thousands of other gods that other people worship today. It is quite likely that
you rejected these other gods without ever looking into their religions or reading their
books. You simply absorbed the dominant faith in your home or in the society you grew
up in.

In the same way, the followers of all these other religions have chosen to reject God.
You think their gods are imaginary, and they think your God is imaginary.

In other words, each religious person on earth today arbitrarily rejects thousands of
gods as imaginary, many of which he/she has never even heard of, and arbitrarily
chooses to "believe" in one of them.

The following quote from Stephen F. Roberts sums up the situation very nicely:

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do.
When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will
understand why I dismiss yours."

A rational person rejects all human gods equally, because all of them are equally
imaginary. How do we know that they are imaginary? Simply imagine that one of them
is real. If one of these thousands of gods were actually real, then his followers would be
experiencing real, undeniable benefits. These benefits would be obvious to everyone.
The followers of a true god would pray, and their prayers would be answered. The
followers of a true god would therefore live longer, have fewer diseases, have lots more
money, etc. There would be thousands of statistical markers surrounding the followers
of a true god.

Everyone would notice all of these benefits, and they would gravitate toward this true
god. And thus, over the course of several centuries, everyone would be aligned on the
one true god. All the other false gods would have fallen by the wayside long ago, and
there would be only one religion under the one true god.

When we look at our world today, we see nothing like that. There are two billion
Christians AND there are more than one billion Muslims, and their religions are mutually
exclusive. There are thousands of other religions. When you analyse any of them, they
all show a remarkable similarity -- there is zero evidence that any of these gods exist.
That is how we know that they are all imaginary.

Understanding the Rationalizations

You will frequently hear believers make the following rationalization:

Suppose you are right. Suppose there is no God. Then when I die as a believer, I
have lost nothing. I just die, as a man that devoted his life to love and morals.
But if you, as a non-believer, are wrong and I am right, you have to spend an
eternity in hell. See, I have nothing to lose, but you have everything to lose.
The problem with this line of reasoning is that there are thousands of gods that humans
have imagined. A person who believes in Allah can make this statement, and so can a
person who believes in God, and so can a person who believes in Vishnu.

The fact is that religion is a form of delusion. By believing in an imaginary god, you have
not "lost nothing." What you have done is commited yourself to a lifetime of delusion,
instead of commiting your life to reality. Non-believers live moral and loving lives
without having to resort to delusion.

The fact that there are so many gods proves that all of these gods are imaginary. If there
actually were an all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving "god" in any form, that would be
obvious to everyone and we would all align on him. His existence would be undeniable
and impossible to hide.

Proof #29 - Think about Communion

Because Christians have been participating in the communion rite for many years, they
tend to forget just how bizarre this ritual is. The whole idea of "eating Jesus' body" and
"drinking his blood" is grotesque in the extreme.

Have you ever wondered where this ritual came from, or why billions of people would
participate in a ritual that is this bizarre? First, let's look at the part of the Bible that
prescribes the ritual. You find it in Mark, Chapter 14:

And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to
them, and said, "Take; this is my body." And he took a cup, and when he had
given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And he said to them,
"This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.
There are a few lines in Luke chapter 22 that are nearly identical.

Jesus gets far more graphic, however, in John chapter 6:53-55:

So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the
Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh
and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For
my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
To any normal person, this sounds very much like the script of a gruesome horror film. It
sounds like some sort of revolting satanic ritual. It definitely does not sound like the
words of the all-loving creator of the universe.

Imagine that you are a normal person, and you have never been exposed to Christianity
before. Now imagine that a Christian comes up to you and quotes John 6:53. Any
normal adult would rightfully assume the Christian to be insane. Thus, you never see a
bumper sticker that says "John 6:53."

However, the assumption is accurate. The dictionary describes cannibalism in the

following way:

The usually ritualistic eating of human flesh by a human being

What Jesus is demanding is cannibalism.

What does your common sense tell you about all of this? What we are talking about
here is cannibalism, and what Christians are doing looks exactly like a pagan/satanic
ritual. If you are a Christian, the two questions you may be asking yourself right now are:

1. Why in the world am I, as a sane individual, participating in ritualistic

cannibalism? How in the world did I stoop to this point?
2. Why would an all-powerful, all-loving God demand that I do this? What sort of
God am I worshipping?
The source of the ritual

If you are curious, here is why Christianity contains this bizarre ritual. It is not the case
that an all-powerful God in heaven demands this behavior. All of the rituals in
Christianity are completely man-made. Christianity is a snow ball that rolled over a
dozen pagan religions. As the snowball grew, it freely attached pagan rituals in order to
be more palatable to converts. The process is described succinctly and accurately in the
book "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown. The book offers these two accounts of the
acretion process:

"The vestiges of pagan religion in Christian symbology are undeniable. Egyptian

sun disks became the halos of Catholic saints. Pictograms of Isis nursing her
miraculously conceived son Horus became the blueprint for our modern images
of the Virgin Mary nursing Baby Jesus. And virtually all the elements of the
Catholic ritual - the miter, the altar, the doxology, and communion, the act of
"God-eating" - were taken directly from earlier pagan mystery religions."
"Nothing in Christianity is original. The pre-Christian God Mithras - called the Son
of God and the Light of the World - was born on December 25, died was buried
in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days. By the way, December 25 is
also the birthday or Osiris, Adonis, and Dionysus. The newborn Krishna was
presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Even Christianity's weekly holy
day was stolen from the pagans."

To any normal person, the practice of communion is one of the most bizarre things that
Christians do. Jesus' cannibalistic tendencies offer explicit evidence that Jesus is not
God.

When you research it historically, you realize that Jesus was a human being like any
other. The mythology of his birth, life and death are pagan stories that are all man-made
because God is imaginary.

Proof #30 - Examine God's sexism

If you would like to prove to yourself that God is imaginary, here is one easy way to do
it: Look for places in the Bible where God is an absurd, unmitigated jerk instead of the
"all-knowing", "all-loving", "fully-enlightened" being that he is supposed to be. The utter
contradiction proves that God is imaginary.

There are many parts of the Bible that display these tendencies, for example this and
this. However, if you are a woman, the place where God's absurdity becomes
completely clear is when you look at God's sexism.

The dictionary defines a misogynist as "One who hates women." [ref] It defines the
word "sexist" as:
 1. Discrimination based on gender, especially discrimination against women.
2. Attitudes, conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotyping of social roles
based on gender

Is God a sexist? Let's look at the evidence. We find this in 1 Corinthians chapter 14:
As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the
churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law
says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own
husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
This seems like a straightforward passage. And God is the one who inspired the Bible. In
Isaiah 40:8 God says that the word of the Lord will last forever, and he says the same
thing again in 1 Peter 1:24-25. So here we have God, in his eternal and everlasting Word,
saying that it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

This quote from 1 Corinthians 11 is important:

But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a
woman is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. Any man who prays or
prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head, but any woman who prays
or prophesies with her head unveiled dishonors her head--it is the same as if her
head were shaven. For if a woman will not veil herself, then she should cut off
her hair; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her wear a
veil. For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of
God; but woman is the glory of man. (For man was not made from woman, but
woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.)
That is why a woman ought to have a veil on her head, because of the angels.
You may find it hard to believe that something that confusing is in the Bible, yet if you
look it up you will find it is there.

Then there is this section from 1 Timothy chapter 2:

Also that women should adorn themselves modestly and sensibly in seemly
apparel, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly attire but by good
deeds, as befits women who profess religion. Let a woman learn in silence with
all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men;
she is to keep silent.
It is hard to miss God's meaning when he says something as direct as, "I permit no
woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent."

If you think about it, you will realize that God started this type of sexism at the very
beginning of the Bible. In Genesis chapter 17 God says:

This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your
descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. You shall be
 circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant
between me and you.
God makes no mention of forming any sort of covenant with women.

There are many other examples that we can find in the Bible:

In Matthew 25:1 Jesus says: "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten
virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom."
In John 20:17 Jesus says to Mary: "Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to
my Father," as though the touch of a woman is somehow improper, but a few
verses later, is happy to have Thomas touch him.
In Genesis chapter 3, God punishes Eve, and all women for thousands of years,
with greatly increased pain during childbirth. No such pain is inflicted on Adam.
In Ephesians 5:22-24 we find this: "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the
Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church,
his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also
wives should submit to their husbands in everything."
In 1 Peter 3:7 we find: "Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live
with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs
with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers."
In 1 John 2:13, John says, "I write to you, fathers, because you have known him
who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have
overcome the evil one. I write to you, dear children, because you have known
the Father." No mention is made of women.
And so on. There are many, many examples like these throughout the old and
new testaments.

There are other, broader examples of misogyny that are readily apparent in the Bible as
well:

Are any of Jesus' disciples women? No.

Are any of the elders in the book of Revelation women? No.
Are any of the books of the Bible written by women? No.
Etc...

God, it would seem, wants nothing to do with women.

Keep in mind that the Bible's misogyny has affected society for centuries. The United
States constitution, for example, was originally drafted to specifically deny rights to
women. Women could not even vote in the United States until 1920, and only then after
decades of battle in the women's suffrage movement.

If you think about it, you will realize that there is something quite odd about this
situation. In spite of the fact that the Bible is supposed to be God's eternal Word,
modern human beings totally reject God's sexism. Modern human beings completely
ignore God:

We make women the CEOs of major corporations.

We elect women to high government offices.
We appoint women as presidents of universities.
We fill our schools with female teachers.
We allow women to speak freely in church.

The contradiction should be as obvious as a lighthouse here. There is no ambiguity. We

do all of this in direct defiance of God's Law in the Bible because we know God and his
"eternal word" are completely wrong. We know that God is imaginary.

If God is going to take the time to write and publish "the Word of God," why does the
book contain so many problems?

Why isn't each page of the Bible astonishing us with its brilliance and insight, and
filling us with wonder?
Why, instead, does the Bible contain so much nonsense or, in this case, bigotry?
Why are Christians constantly having to justify, rationalize, excuse and explain
the Bible? In this case, we find modern Christians trying to defend a God who
obviously hates women on many different levels.

To any unbiased observer, the reason for sexism in the Bible is very easy to understand:
The Bible was not written by a "all-knowing", "all-loving", "fully-enlightened" "god". It
was written by primitive men who were flagrant sexists. Just look at how men in
primitive countries like Afghanistan treat women today. Those are the kind of men who
wrote the Bible.

And we all know it -- Christians and non-Christians alike. The reason why modern
societies totally reject sexism is because we all know that the Bible's sexism is
completely contradictory and completely wrong. It is exactly the same situation we see
when Christians face slavery in the Bible. Christians and non-Christians alike reject the
Bible's teachings in these areas because the Bible is obviously wrong. The part that is
profoundly strange is that, while completely rejecting these parts of the Bible, Chistians
will claim that other parts of the Bible are God's word. They are blind to the obvious
contradiction because of their utter delusion.

Once you break the delsuion, it is completely obvious: God is imaginary.

Proof #31 - Understand that religion is superstition

Let's say that you were to create a far-flung news network, and you somehow had the
capacity to observe all of the inexplicable tragedy that occurs on Earth each day:
 all of the murders,
all of the car wrecks
all of the rapes
all of the mutilations
all of the torture
all the miscarriages and stillbirths
all of the disease
all of the starvation
all of the destruction
all of the terrorism

Let's say you had a news feed that delivered this all to you in real time.

Just ten minutes with this news feed would be unbearable. Thousands of tragic,
heartwrenching events would impinge themselves upon you every minute. It would
make you vomit over and over and over again until you passed out in exhaustion and
despair.

In other words, the amount of gut-wrenching, anguished tragedy in our world is

unspeakable.

Meanwhile, there is a housewife in Pasadena who firmly believes that God answered
her prayer this morning to remove the mustard stain from her favorite blouse. She
prayed to God to help with the stain, and after she washed it the stain was gone. Praise
Jesus! There are tens of millions of people in the United States who firmly believe that
God is personally helping them each day with their trivial prayers like this. They believe
that they have a personal relationship with God, that God hears their prayers each day,
and that God has time to reach down and remove the mustard molecules one by one.
They believe it with all of their hearts.

It makes you wonder: If God has the time and the will to answer these trivial prayers,
then why does he have no time for the millions of other massively serious problems that
arise on earth every day?

Simply look at the world we live in. All around us we have murderers, rapists, robbers,
child molesters, terrorists, etc... How do they do their deeds? If God is all-knowing and
God answers prayers, then we have to believe that:

God watches them as they murder, rape, molest and terrorize other people
millions of times a day, but he does nothing to stop them.
God watches the victims as they are being murdered, raped, molested and
terrorized, but he does nothing to help them.
 God completely ignores the prayers of the planet to eliminate murder, rape,
child molestation and terrorism and allows these atrocities to continue
unabated.

According to the Standard Model of God, God is an omniscient, all-powerful, all-loving

being who answers prayers. Imagine God sitting on his magnificent throne in heaven
looking down upon Earth, seeing every detail. God speaks:
"Look at all of those praying people getting tortured in that death camp.
Excellent! I won't do anything to stop that. And look at that little girl down there
being raped and murdered. Perfect! She is praying like mad, and so is her
mother, but I won't do anything to stop that. And there are three terrorists
preparing to blow up a church and kill 1,500 people who are saying the Lord's
Prayer to me right now. Outstanding! I won't do anything to stop that. How
wonderful it is that 1,000 prayerful people will die of starvation today in
Ethiopia. I love it! I won't do anything to stop that. Oh… and there's little Suzy
Jankins praying that I remove that pimple from her nose for her big date with
Chad tomorrow. Let me go help Suzy right now…"
Do you believe in a God who acts like this? Of course not. If you believe that God is
specifically reaching down from heaven to answer your trivial prayer to remove a zit or
to wash out a mustard stain or to help you find your lost keys, while at the same time
God is allowing 27,000 children to die of starvation each day by specifically ignoring
their prayers, then your God is insane. Look at Proof #6 and Proof #22 to see just how
insane your god is.

If you are a typical Christian, however, you are just like our Pasadena housewife. You say
dozens of little prayers every day. You may pray for 20 trivial things today:

1. Pray for your car to start in the morning.

2. Pray for traffic to be light so you get to work on time.
3. Pray that you don't get fired for the mistake you made yesterday.
4. Pray that the coffee stain on your purse comes out.
5. Pray that it doesn't rain.
6. Pray that the price of a stock has gone up.
7. Pray that your computer doesn't crash.
8. Pray that your son got a decent grade on his math test.
9. Pray that there's enough money in your checking account.
10. Pray that the guy you went out with on Saturday calls you.
11. Pray that your mother in law cancels her trip for the weekend.
12. Pray for there to be an available washing machine at the Laundromat when you
get there.
13. Pray that your car passes inspection.
14. Pray that they have your size in the shoes you are thinking about buying at the
mall.
15. Pray that the envelope you are opening contains a check rather than a bill.
 16. Pray that your cat didn't pee on the new sofa.
17. Pray for your baby not to wake you up tonight screaming so you can get some
sleep.
18. Pray that you have the winning bid for that camera on EBay.
19. Pray that they have the video you want at the video store tonight.
20. Pray that your team wins the game on Sunday.

What happens? Some of your prayers would get "answered," some would not. If you are
a believer, you handle each little prayer in the following way:

If something nice happens, you attribute that to God -- he answered your prayer
and is "looking out" for you.
If you pray for something and it does not happen, or if something bad happens,
you rationalize that it is part of "God's plan" . It is "his will" that this bad event
happens.

In Proof #6 we demonstrated that God's Plan is ridiculous. So what is actually

happening? An unbiased observer looks at the same good and bad events and sees
them for what they are -- random events. God has nothing to do with them. To an
unbiased observer, it is obvious that religion is nothing but superstition.

If you are a believer, you can prove to yourself that they are random events. Tomorrow,
instead of praying about everything, simply watch 20 trivial things happen without
praying. Some will work out, some will not. There will be no difference. The act of
praying about them does not change the outcome in any way. If you were to statisically
analyse your prayers, it would become obvious to you that every "answered prayer" is a
coincidence.

The belief in prayer is just like any superstition. Walking under a ladder is not "bad luck".
Neither is breaking a mirror. Neither is seeing a black cat. Statistics prove that a broken
mirror has zero effect on your life. In the same way, statistics prove that God never
answers prayers.

The dictionary defines the word "superstition" in this way:

An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to

a course of events influences its outcome. [ref]
Prayer is rank superstition, nothing more. People who believe in the power of prayer are
no different than people who believe in the power of crystal balls, horoscopes or lucky
rabbits feet. Prayer is scientifically proven to be meaningless.

The reason why there is so much suffering in this world, and the reason why a statistical
analysis of your trivial prayers always shows them to be complete coincidences, is
because God is imaginary. The belief in God is pure superstition.
Proof #32 - Talk to a theologian

Have you ever noticed that when you read the Bible, it often makes no sense? For
example, you can read Matthew 17:20 and Jesus clearly says, "Nothing will be
impossible for you." And yet, you know for a fact that that statement is wrong. Lots of
things are impossible for you.

If you ask a Christian about this discrepency, the Christian will say, "Ah, you see, you are
not interpretting the Bible correctly. You need to talk to a theologian. He will set you
straight."

Isn't it odd that the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving, perfect creator of the universe
has written a book, but he was unable to write clearly, so we need human theologians
to interpret it for us? Why would a perfect god say "Nothing will be impossible for you"
unless he meant "Nothing will be impossible for you?" Surely God knows how humans
interpret sentences. So why didn't he speak the truth?

The reason why God speaks so unclearly, and why God fails to speak the truth so often
in the Bible, and the reason why we need theologians, is because God is imaginary. You
can see that in the following dialog with a theologian:

Norm: Hello Chris, it is nice to meet you. I understand that you are a theologian
with a PhD in theology.

Chris: Yes, I am a trained theologian. How may I help you?

Norm: Can you answer a question for me: Does God answer prayers?

Chris: Yes, certainly. He has answered hundreds of my prayers.

Norm: Pray for him to put $10,000 in my pocket right now.

Chris: It does not work that way. I said God answers prayers, not that he is a
cosmic genie.

Norm: So, in Mark 11:24, when Jesus says, "Whatever you ask for in prayer,
believe that you have received it, and it will be yours," what did he mean? That
sounds like you can have whatever you pray for.

Chris: He means that you pray for something, and if it is his will then you shall
receive it. Jesus is under no obligation to answer any prayer. Nor is he obligated
to provide the answer that you expect. There are thousands of ways for Jesus to
answer a prayer indirectly.
Norm: If it is his will, aren't I going to get it anyway? Why pray?

Chris: Ask, and you shall receive. You have to ask...

Norm: ...and then you should receive. Jesus does not say, "Ask, and you might
receive if it is my will." His statement has no conditions.

Chris: He meant that. It is implied. You need to see Jesus in the context of the
rabbinical doctrine in the early fist century AD.

Norm: OK, why does God never answer impossible prayers? For example, if I
pray to fly like superman, or to restore my friends amputated limb, why will it
never happen?

Chris: It is not God's will. It would eliminate faith in God if God answered an
impossible prayer as you are suggesting. Our God is a God of faith. That is his
intention and is clearly stated throughout the Bible.

Norm: So why did God part the Red Sea? Surely that took away faith.

Chris: You clearly have no understanding of God's intentions or purposes in the

Bible. At the time of Genesis, under Mosaic law, God's relationship with mankind
was completely different than it is today.

Norm: I see. So in Matthew 17:20, when Jesus says, "nothing will be impossible
to you," why isn't flying-like-superman or $10,000-in-my-pocket-right-now part
of that?

Chris: Quite clearly you have never bothered with any sort of exegetical
understanding of the Bible's promises on prayer. God is under no obligation to
answer any prayer.

Norm: So when Jesus uses the example of moving a mountain, which is clearly
impossible, what did he mean?

Chris: Jesus clearly was speaking metaphorically, as was common in the first
century.

Norm: So when Jesus said "anyone with faith can move a mountain," what he
actually meant was, "No one with faith can move a mountain."

Chris: No.

Norm: Then, who can move a mountain?

 Chris: God can move a mountain.

Norm: But he never does.

Chris: It is not his will. And keep in mind that God must remain hidden.

Norm: Let me make sure I have this straight. Here is what Jesus said in Matthew
17:20:

You will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move;
and nothing will be impossible to you.

But here is what you think he meant:

You will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move;
and nothing will be impossible to you, as long as it is possible and as long
as it is my will.

Is that right?

Chris: You are completely clueless, and an idiot besides. No biblical commentary,
and no Christian denominational body agrees with any of your interpretations of
these passages, nor do I.

Norm: Answer the question. Is that what he meant?

Chris: This is irrelevant to the conversation.

Norm: Here's what I do not understand. What Jesus said in the Bible is obviously
wrong. If God is perfect, there is no reason why God would put something that is
completely wrong in the Bible. Why do we need human beings like you to
interpret and massage and explain what God might have meant in the Bible?
Why wouldn't an omnipotent, all-knowing, perfect God have written it the way
he meant it, in an understandable, clear, unambiguous, truthful, correct way?
There isn't anything vague about, "Nothing will be impossible for you" or, "Ask,
and you shall receive." Yet, it is completely wrong. Explain that to me.

Chris: You are completely missing the point.

And so on...

Most people can see the problem that is apparent in this conversation. There is no
reason why an all-knowing, perfect God would write down, "you can move mountains"
or, "nothing will be impossible for you" or, "Ask, and you shall receive" unless he meant
that.

Unfortunately, the reality is that no one can move mountains, and thousands of things
will be impossible for you. Not even Jesus moved a mountain. In fact, not one of Jesus'
supposed miracles left any evidence for us to examine today.

Why would Jesus, who is supposedly the son of God, say, "Love your enemy and
pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in
heaven," in Matthew 5:44-45, but then say "Whoever believes and is baptized
will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be damned [to hell]" in Mark
16:16? Why doesn't Jesus love his enemies? A theologian can explain it, even
though the explanation makes absolutely no sense.
Why does the Bible tell us that we need to murder half of the citizens of the
United States? A theologian can explain it, even though the explanation makes
absolutely no sense.
Why is God a complete sexist in the Bible, and a champion of slavery? A
theologian can explain it, even though the explanation makes absolutely no
sense.
Why would an omniscient God write a creation story in the Bible that is
acknowleged to be complete nonsense by tens of thousands of clergy members?
A theologian can explain it, even though the explanation makes absolutely no
sense.

The reason why you can't read the Bible yourself, and the reason why only "trained
theologians" can "interpret" a book written by God, and the reason why the Bible is
actually, concretely incorrect in so many places (despite any interpretation) is because
God is imaginary. If God were real, and if God had actually written a book, the book
would be brilliant and inspiring. The book would say things that are actually true. Prayer
would work as it is actually described by the Bible. People would be left in awe by what
they read the Bible. That is what "being perfect" is all about.

Proof #33 - Contemplate the crucifixion

Have you ever thought about how bizarre the crucifixion story is? Imagine the all-
powerful, all-knowing creator of the universe sitting on his magnificent throne in
heaven. He looks down onto earth and says to himself:

Those evil humans down on earth. I hate what they are doing. All this sin...

Since I am all-knowing I know exactly what the humans are doing and I
understand exactly why they commit each sin. Since I created the humans in my
own image and personally programmed human nature into their brains, I am the
direct author of all of this sin. The instant I created them I knew exactly what
 would happen with every single human being right down to the nanosecond
level for all eternity. If I didn't like how it was going to turn out, I could have
simply changed them when I created them. And since I am perfect, I know
exactly what I am doing. But ignore all that. I hate all these people doing exactly
what I perfectly designed them to do and knew they would do from the moment
I created them. I HATE IT! I tried killing all the humans and animals once in the
flood. That certainly did not fix the problem.

So here's what I am going to do. I will artificially inseminate a virgin. She will give
birth to an incarnated version of me. The humans will eventually crucify and kill
the incarnated me. That, finally, will make me happy. Yes, sending myself down
and having the humans crucify me -- that will satisfy me. I feel much better now.

It makes no sense, does it? Why would an all-knowing being need to have humans kill
himself (Jesus is God, after all) to make himself happy? Especially since it is a perfect
God who set the whole thing in motion exactly the way he wanted it? The whole story
of the crucifixion is absurd from top to bottom if you actually stop to think about it.

If you believe the story of Jesus, Jesus clearly knew that he is God. In John chapter 14,
verse 8 we find this:

Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied." Jesus
said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip?
He who has seen me has seen the Father."
So it makes you wonder about Jesus' famous lamenation in Matthew 27:46:
About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama
sabachthani?"—which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Since Jesus is God, what he really must have meant is: "Myself, myself, why have I
forsaken me?" Which of course makes absolutely no sense.

The reason why the crucifixion makes no sense is because God is imaginary.

Proof #34 - Examine your health insurance policy

Here is a question:

If God answers medical prayers, then why do you need health insurance?
Simply think it through. If what Jesus says about prayer in the Bible is true, and if all the
stories about medical miracles in inspirational literature are true, and if your belief in
God and the power of prayer is true, and if God has a plan for you, then why do you
ever need to visit a doctor or go to the hospital? Why don't you simply pray for a cure
whenever you get sick?
The reason I ask this is because the statement that Jesus makes in Mark 11:24 is so
simple:

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have
received it, and it will be yours.
So is what he says in John 14:14:
If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
There is this statement in Psalms chapter 41:

Blessed is he who has regard for the weak;
the Lord delivers him in times of trouble.
2
The Lord will protect him and preserve his life;
he will bless him in the land
and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.
3
The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed
and restore him from his bed of illness.
In Mark 16, Jesus talks about the laying on of hands:
16
He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe
will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my
name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick
up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay
their hands on the sick, and they will recover.
But even more remarkable is James 5:15, where the Bible says:
And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise
him up.
These are powerful verses. Keep in mind that these are the words of an all-powerful, all-
knowing, perfect God. And James 5:15 is completely unambiguous. If these words are
true and perfect, it seems like a faithful person should have no need for health
insurance.

What reason would a perfect God have for making false statements in the Bible? Yet, by
owning health insurance, you demonstrate to yourself that something in these verses is
amiss. In addition, the fact that you have health insurance indicates that you have no
faith in God's Plan for you. Doesn't it? Let's look at an example.

Praying for a cure

When people are sick, they often pray to God for a cure. This is especially true in the
case of profound, life-threatening illnesses and chronic diseases. We've all heard the
stories of amazing cures and medical miracles that have come through prayer. For
example, here is a story from a housewife in Santa Monica:

"I went to the doctor, and he told me that I had cancer of the uterus. One
solution, according to my doctor, was a radical hysterectomy. But he wanted to
try chemotherapy first, just in case. For me, my only goal in life was to have
 children, and I could not let the doctor make me sterile with a hysterectomy.
That very day I got down on my knees and I prayed to God for a miracle. I read
every passage of the Bible that had anything to do with healing, and I wrote
them all down on index cards that I carried with me everywhere. I recited the
verses, and I prayed whenever I had a spare minute -- Whether I was waiting at a
stop light or for my husband to come home for dinner, I was praying and reciting
those verses. And you know what? The good Lord cured me. I started on
chemotherapy. At the very next visit, my doctor noticed a change. At my next
visit he said, 'Let's postpone the surgery and see what happens.' A year later he
could no longer detect the tumor, and he declared me cured. I knew in my heart
-- it was the power of those scripture verses. God answered my prayers and
cured me."

every month. Even big city newspapers and national magazines report on these stories
now.

There are two questions that we should ask based on this story:

1. Why did our housewife from Santa Monica need chemotherapy if God was going
to cure her anyway? God is all-powerful, so his cure should be instant and free of
side-effects.
2. On the flip side, if "God's plan" were for her to have a hysterectomy, what point
is there in her praying? God's plan comes from an all-powerful being and it is
going to run its course no matter what we do. What good is it to pray in such a
situation?

If you think about these two questions and how they interact with each other, you will
realize something important. If God exists, and if God answers prayers, and if God has a
plan for each of us, then there is no point in ever visiting a doctor. Owning health
insurance is a complete waste of money. The reason is easy to see: Either God will or
will not answer any prayer for healing. If he does answer the prayer, there is no need for
a doctor. If he does not, then God's plan is for you to be sick. Since God is omnipotent,
no amount of doctoring will change the outcome of God's plan. Seeing a doctor is a
waste of time.

Understanding Jesus

If you are a believer and if you have your Bible nearby, we can look at your health care
policy from another angle. Turn to Matthew 6:25-34. Jesus says:

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or
about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and
the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not
sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
 Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a
single hour to his life? "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies
of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon
in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the
grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will
he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying,
'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the
pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need
them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will
be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow
will worry about itself.

Jesus' statement is utterly clear: "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow." Yet health
insurance is a physical manifestation of worry. You buy health insurance because you
are worried about your health tomorrow.

The question to ask yourself, therefore, is simple: If you are a believer, why you need
health insurance? Or, for that matter, car insurance, life insurance or home owner's
insurance? Why are you worrying about your health in the future when: A) Jesus has
told you specifically not to worry (Matthew 6:34), and B) Jesus has promised to cure any
illness that arises (James 5:15)? In addition, why are you worrying about money, which
is what health insurance is all about, when in Matthew 6:19 Jesus specifically says:

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy
and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in
and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
In Matthew 19:21 Jesus goes even further, telling you to sell everything and give the
money to the poor. Obviously he intended for you to give up your health insurance
policy and give its monthly payment to the poor as well.

And then there is Poverbs 3:5-8:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in
all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be
wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your
body and nourishment to your bones.
Why do you own a health insurance policy when you are supposed to be putting your
trust in the Lord, who will bring health to your body?
Everything the Bible says is very clear. Why are you ignoring everything that it tells you
to do?

Here is a possibility for you to consider: you are completely ignoring the Bible because,
in your heart, you know that God is imaginary. What other reason is there for you, as a
believer, to ignore God so profoundly by owning health insurance?

Proof #35 - Notice Jesus' myopia

If you think about Jesus, you realize that his biggest problem is an incredible case of
myopia. We can see this myopia quite clearly as we look back at Jesus' time on earth.
The obvious question that any intelligent person is forced to ask is this:

If Jesus is God, then why didn't Jesus use his omniscience and omnipotence to
actually do something magnificent and beautiful on earth rather than
squandering his "power" as he does in the Bible?

Think about all the problems that Jesus could have solved. At the very least, Jesus could
have transcribed passages into the Bible that would have ended sexism, racism and
slavery forever.

As the simplest example, think of all of the suffering that slavery has caused. Millions
upon millions of people have suffered through the bondage and the remarkable
brutality of slavery because Jesus and his Bible fully support it. If Jesus had simply made
a clear statement -- "Slavery is forbidden, free all the slaves" -- he could have prevented
all of that suffering. Yet Jesus did nothing of the sort. Instead, Jesus endorsed slavery.

In the same way, Jesus could have chosen women to be six of his apostles and made
several speeches on the topic of women's equality. By doing that, he would have put a
huge dent in sexism. Because Jesus did not do that, we still see the effects of Jesus'
sexism in our society today.

At a larger level, if Jesus were God, he could have performed so many real miracles. He
could have, for example, eliminated smallpox and a host of other diseases that science is
busy eliminating today. Jesus could have given the people of Israel the knowledge that
they would need to start a technological society and raise themselves above the
primitive living conditions of the day. Jesus could have taught the Israelites about
metallurgy, chemistry, biology, physics, manufacturing, mathematics, medicine,
engineering, etc., etc., etc. He could have also taught them how to responsibly use these
technologies to solve the problems of pollution and habitat destruction that so often
accompany them today.

Jesus could have made clear statements to deter nuclear proliferation.

The argument could be made that Jesus did try to solve poverty when he said that you
should sell everything you own and give it to the poor. However, in saying this, Jesus
showed a complete misunderstanding of human nature. Do you know of anyone who
has sold all their possessions and given the money to the poor? As a result, half the
people on planet earth today live in abject poverty, supporting themselves on less than
$3 per day. Instead, Jesus could have taught mankind to effectively share wealth so that
the immense problem of global poverty that we see today would have been solved long
ago. Jesus could have also laid down a template for governance that would have ended
monarchies, dictatorial regimes and warlords forever.

Most importantly, Jesus could have made his message so clear, and the proof of his
godliness so obvious, that all six billion people on the planet would have aligned with
him, rather than fragmenting into dozens of bizarre and often warring religions. By
doing this, Jesus could have completely prevented the Crusades and 9/11, among many
other things.

Jesus, if he actually were God, could have done so much. He could have prevented
massive amounts of human suffering with his words and deeds. Instead, he did none of
this. To any rational person, these problems make it painfully obvious that Jesus was a
normal human being. The fact that Jesus was a normal human being renders the entire
New Testament of the Bible meaningless, and in the process shows us that the God of
the Bible is completely imaginary.

Proof #36 - Realize that God is impossible

If you consult the dictionary, here is the first definition of God that you will find:

"A being conceived as the perfect, omnipotent, omniscient originator and ruler
of the universe, the principal object of faith and worship in monotheistic
religions." [ref]
Most believers would agree with this definition because they share a remarkably clear
and consistent view of God. Yes, there are thousands of minor quibbles about religion.
Believers express those quibbles in dozens of denominations -- Presbyterians,
Lutherans, Catholics, Baptists, Episcopalians, Methodists and such. But at the heart of it
all, the belief in God aligns on a set of core ideas that everyone accepts.

What if you were to simply think about what it would mean if there were a perfect,
omnipotent, omniscient originator and ruler of the universe? Is it possible for such a
being to exist? Epicures thought about it in 300 BCE, and he came up with this:

"The gods can either take away evil from the world and will not, or, being willing
to do so, cannot; or they neither can nor will, or lastly, they are both able and
willing. If they have the will to remove evil and cannot, then they are not
omnipotent. If they can, but will not, than they are not benevolent. If they are
 neither able nor willing, then they are neither omnipotent nor benevolent.
Lastly, if they are both able and willing to annihilate evil, how does it exist?"

In other words, if you sit and think about who God is supposed to be, you realize that
such a being is impossible. Ridiculous, in fact.

Take this quote from the Bible. In Matthew 7:7 Jesus says:

Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened
to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who
knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will
give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who
are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your
Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
The impossibility of God is visible here as well. Based on Jesus' statement, let's assume
that you are a child and you are starving in Ethiopia. You pray for food. What would you
expect to happen based on Jesus' statement? If God exists as an all-loving, all-knowing
and all-powerful parent -- a "father in heaven" -- you would expect God to deliver food
to you. In fact, the child should not have to pray. Normal parents provide food to their
children without their children having to beg for it. Yet, strangely, on planet Earth today
we find tens of millions of people dying of starvation every year.

Another way to approach the impossibility of God is to think about the concept of
omniscience. If God is omniscient, then it means that he knows every single thing that
happens in the universe, both now and infinitely into the future. Do you have free will in
such a universe? Clearly not. God knows everything that will happen to you. Therefore,
the instant you were created, God knows whether you are going to heaven or hell. To
create someone knowing that that person will be damned to hell for eternity is the
epitome of evil.

Here is another way to understand the impossibility of God. If you look at the definition
of God, you can see that he is defined as the "originator and ruler of the universe". Why
does the universe need an originator -- a creator? Because, according to religious logic,
the universe cannot exist unless it has a creator. A believer will say, "nothing can exist
unless it is created." However, that satement immediately constructs a contradiction,
because we must then wonder who created God. For a believer the answer to that is
simple -- "God is the one thing that does not need a creator. God is timeless and has
always existed." How can it be that the everything MUST have a creator, while God must
NOT? The contradiction in the definition of God is palpable.

As soon as your think about the concept of a perfect, omnipotent, omniscient being, you
realize the impossibility of the concept. That impossibility is yet another way to see that
God is imaginary.
Proof #37 - Think about DNA

Many religious belivers use the existence of DNA as a proof for God's existence. The
logic goes something like this:

DNA is information. The amount of information encapsulated in a single strand

of human DNA would fill 400 volumes the size of an Encyclopedia Britanica, and
this information contains an exact blueprint for creating a human being. This
information did not write itself. The creation of information requires intelligence.
The creation of an encyclopedia requires an author - a creator. God is the creator
of the information in DNA.
As we saw in Proof #25, however, there is no "creator" for DNA. The creator is
evolution. No intelligence is required to encode DNA. Instead, the information in DNA is
the result of natural selection acting upon random mutations, rather than the actions of
a "being" like God.

The fact is that there are millions of scientists who have assembled entire libraries full of
information showing that evolution is where all the species on earth came from.
Thousands of clergy members have even signed a letter stating their belief in all of this
scientific evidence.

Does this prove that God is imaginary? As in Proof #8 (on near death experiences), the
answer is "no." However, many believers use the existence of DNA as "indisputable"
evidence that God must exist. We can scientifically and irrefutably show that nature,
rather than any "god", created all of the information encoded in DNA.

Proof #38 - Notice the divorce rate among Christians

If you have ever been to a Christian wedding, you know that marriage is a big deal. You
have the priest or minister standing with the couple reading from the Bible and praying.
The ceremony takes place in a church -- the house of God. Dozens or hundreds of
witnesses are on hand. In front of God, a representative of God and all of these
witnesses, a couple declares that they will wed "til death do us part."

The Christian faith also puts a very, very large stigma on divorce. For example, in
Matthew 5:32 Jesus says:

But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital
unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the
divorced woman commits adultery.
In Matthew 19:9, Jesus repeats that sentiment:
I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness,
and marries another woman commits adultery
Adultery is a major problem in the Christian faith. First, one of the commandments in
the Ten Commandments specifically forbids adultery. Even worse, in Leviticus 20 we find
this:
If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbour, both the adulterer and
the adulteress shall be put to death.
Adulterers get the death penalty. Clearly, God and Jesus want Christians to stay married
for life.

So let's review. When a Christian couple gets married, we have all of these forces that
should be working to keep them married:

1. The marriage is performed in God's presence...

2. ...in God's house...
3. ...in front of God's representative (a minister or priest)...
4. ...and in front of many Christian witnesses.
5. The couple presumably prays before and after the wedding for a good
marriage...
6. ...as do all of the witnesses...
7. ...and the minister/priest.
8. The couple knows that if they divorce/remarry, it is an act of adultery...
9. ...which God has forbidden...
10. ...and which the Bible says is punishable by death.

And don't forget this important line from the ceremony: What God has joined together
let no man put asunder. Now think about this. God is the all-powerful, all-knowing
creator of the universe. If God puts something together, shouldn't it be impossible to
break it? Isn't that what "all-powerful" means?

Given all of this, and given the fact that an all-powerful, prayer-answering God is
supposedly looking over the lives of a Christian couple, guiding them in the spirit and so
on, what would you expect the divorce rate for Christians to be? Clearly, the Christian
divorce rate should be zero.

But when we look at the divorce statistics of American couples, and compare Christian
vs. non-Christian divorce rates, we find this strange statistic: divorce rates among
Christians match those among the rest of the population. It does not matter whether
the couple is Christian or not. According to this article, "'While it may be alarming to
discover that born-again Christians are more likely than others to experience a divorce,
that pattern has been in place for quite some time,' said George Barna, president of
Barna Research Group." There are a millions ways to crunch the data, but no matter
how you slice it, it is easy to see that Christians divorce just as often as non-Christians.

The reason for the high divorce rate among Christians is easy to see: God is imaginary.
Proof #39 - Realize that Jesus was a jerk

Most Christians have a warm, loving image of Jesus. Jesus is the "Prince of Peace" and
the "Lamb of God" in their eyes. Jesus is a perfect, sinless being. But is this image
accurate? If you had never heard of Jesus before, and you decided you wanted to learn
about him by reading the Bible, what sort of person would you discover?

The dictionary defines a jerk as a "foolish, rude, or contemptible person" [ref]. Another
dictionary throws in the word "fatuous" as well, and then defines fatuous as,
"vacuously, smugly, and unconsciously foolish". [ref]

Given these definitions, can we make the case that Jesus was a jerk? Let's see what we
find when we look at God's word.

A person who is a hypocrite is certainly a jerk. No one likes a hypocrite, because

hypocrites are smugly foolish. And Jesus seems to have a problem with hypocrisy. For
example, one of Jesus' most famous lines is, "Love your enemies," as he says here in
Matthew 5:43:

"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But
I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you
may be sons of your Father in heaven."
He reiterates the message in Luke 6:26:
"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
That seems simple enough. And wouldn't you expect Jesus to love his enemies? Yes you
would, unless he is a hypocrite. Therefore, what we find in Mark 16:15-16 is surprising.
It shows us how Jesus treats his enemies:
He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe
will be condemned [to hell].
This is "good" news? Jesus doesn't love his enemies at all. In fact, you don't even need
to be an enemy -- even those who would rather not "believe in" Jesus are condemned to
eternal torture in a lake of fire. This level of hypocrisy is the kind of thing you expect
from a jerk. For further examples of hypocrisy and contradiction, try comparing
Matthew 5:16 with Matthew 6:1, or John 14:27 with Matthew 10:34, or 2 Kings 2:11
with John 3:13, or Exodus 33:11 with John 1:18, or Mark 9:40 with Luke 11:23.

In the same way, a person who breaks his promises is a jerk. We can see that Jesus
breaks promises by looking at Mark 11:24:

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have
received it, and it will be yours.
In John chapter 14, verses 12 through 14 we find the same thing:
 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing.
He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And
I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the
Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
When a person says, "ask anything in my name, and I will do it," what does he mean?
Presumably, Jesus means that if you ask for anything, he will do it. What else could he
possibly mean, unless he is being dishonest? And Jesus does not say it once. He says the
same thing over and over again. In Matthew 7:7: "Ask, and it will be given to you." In
Matthew 17:20: "Nothing will be impossible for you." In Matthew 21:21: "If you believe,
you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." You may have noticed, however, that
Jesus is lying. You can pray for all sorts of things and nothing will happen. We all know
that. A person who breaks his promises like this is clearly a jerk.

What if Jesus tells stories that are completely untrue? For example, take Matthew 4:8 as
an example:

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the
kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
The problem with this story is that the earth must be flat for it to work. From a tall
mountain it is impossible to see "all the kingdoms." Even standing on Mt. Everest, the
tallest mountain on earth, the farthest you could see is 250 miles to the horizon [ref].
Yet we know that at the time of Jesus, there were thriving kingdoms in China, India,
South America, Europe, etc. So clearly this story could not have happened. People who
are dishonest like this are jerks.

Another easy way to see that Jesus is a jerk is to recognize his bigotry. In Matthew
15:22-26 we find this telling conversation:

A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of
David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-
possession." Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged
him, "Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us." He answered, "I was
sent only to the lost sheep of Israel." The woman came and knelt before him.
"Lord, help me!" she said. He replied, "It is not right to take the children's bread
and toss it to their dogs."
Jesus calls this woman a dog because she is not the right nationality. That is both
ridiculous, and a clear indication that he is a jerk.

If you are a person who steals other people's stuff, you are a jerk. In Mark 11:1-3 we
find this transaction:

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the

Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, saying to them, "Go to the
village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which
 no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, 'Why are
you doing this?' tell him, 'The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.' "
How many times have you had some jerk say, "let me borrow this and I'll return it in a
minute," never to see that person again? It is a common scam. And that's exactly what
Jesus does. The disciples take the colt, but if you search the scriptures you find that they
never bother to return it. Wow - what a jerk.

By the way, that is not the only place in the Bible where Jesus steals something. In
Matthew 8:28-34 Jesus steals an entire herd of pigs and kills them all.

Have you noticed that in many cases Jesus is childish and emotional, rather than
thoughtful? People who act like this are jerks. Here's an example from Matthew 18:7-9:

"Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things
must come, but woe to the man through whom they come! If your hand or your
foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter
life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into
eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It
is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown
into the fire of hell.
This statement is totally ridiculous on several different levels. First, something like a
hand cannot "cause you to sin" -- your brain causes "sin." Every intelligent person knows
that. Therefore, gouging your eye out or cutting your hand off is useless. If you have a
problem with "sin" and you are going to amputate something to solve it, you would
need to amputate your brain, since that is where all "sin" originates.

But if you think about it further, you realize that Jesus has completely missed the actual
remedy. If you are having a problem with unproductive behaviors, what you need to do
is either educate or rehabilitate yourself. You would do that by talking with a counselor
or seeing a therapist. Amputation is an absurd prescription, as every intelligent person
knows. Jesus is not only a jerk -- he is an idiot. He dispenses advice that is completely
useless, and recklessly dangerous as well.

Here is another emotional outburst from Mark 11:15-16:

On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out
those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money
changers and the benches of those selling doves, and would not allow anyone to
carry merchandise through the temple courts.
Is this a smart thing to do? Is this the kind of behavior you expect from a thoughtful,
rational adult? No, it is the behavior of a child. Surely the all-powerful son of God could
come up with a better plan than knocking over tables in a one-time outburst.

In Mark 11:12-14 we find another emotional reaction:

 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the
distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached
it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he
said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples
heard him say it.
Later we learn that the tree is dead.

Let's see. The son of God is hungry. He approaches a fig tree. The tree is out of season
and has no fruit. Jesus wants fruit. So he kills the tree. What a total jerk! Why didn't he
wave his all-powerful hand and cause figs to appear? Or how about borrowing a raisin
from someone and turning it into a 5,000 baskets of figs? Only a true jerk would kill
something out of spite.

Here is one final example. Let's say that you want to really jerk people around. One way
to do that would be to constantly contradict yourself. Therefore, we find Jesus saying
this in Luke 14:26:

Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children,
brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple.
OK, so if we hate everything, we can be Jesus' disciple. That's a great message from
someone who elsewhere says, "Love your enemy" and "Love your neighbor as you love
yourself." And don't forget that one of the commandments is to honor your father and
mother. So which is it Jesus? If we want to be your disciple, should we love our enemies,
our neighbors and our parents, or should we hate them? Only a jerk would create a
totally contradictory set of requirements like that.

What if you want eternal life? What do you need to do? Presumably you need to hate
everyone and life itself. Then in Luke 10:25-28 we find another requirement:

On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked,
"what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

"What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"

He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as
yourself.'"

"You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."

Is that true? If you do this, will you have eternal life? Actually it is not true. In Luke
18:18-22 Jesus says:
A certain ruler asked him, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
 "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good—except God
alone. You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, do not murder,
do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.'"

"All these I have kept since I was a boy," he said.

When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell everything
you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come,
follow me."

The answers in Luke 10 and Luke 18 are totally different. This clearly means that Jesus is
making this stuff up as he goes along. Which is something that a jerk would do.

Then in John 6:53-58 we find an additional requirement:

Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of
Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and
drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my
flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks
my blood remains in me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I live
because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This
is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died,
but he who feeds on this bread will live forever."
That sounds grotesque, doesn't it? And it totally contradicts what Jesus just told the two
guys in Luke 10 and Luke 18. And what about Matthew 18:2-3:
He called a little child and had him stand among them. And [Jesus] said: "I tell
you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never
enter the kingdom of heaven."
How, exactly, does one "become like little children?" For example, little children
frequently believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, and often will fight fiercely with
their siblings. Are we, as adults, supposed to take on these qualities? Jesus does not
really say, making this requirement totally nebulous.

But is it true? If you "become like little children", do you get to go to heaven? No,
actually not. In reality you have to be "born again" in order to see the kingdom of God.
In John 3:3-8 Jesus says:

"I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot
enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"

Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God
unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit
 gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born
again.' The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot
tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the
Spirit."

That is about as clear as mud, isn't it? But that is what Jesus says, and it totally
contradicts all the other stuff he said.

But let's ignore the contradiction for a moment. Is this true? If we become like little
children... in fact, if we regress all the way to infants by being "born again" of water and
the Spirit, do we get to go to heaven? No... Jesus is wrong again. Because in Matthew
5:17-20 Jesus says this:

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not
come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and
earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any
means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who
breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the
same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and
teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell
you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the
teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
This is getting absurd, isn't it? Pharisees and scribes are adults, not children. And if you
read the Bible, you know that the Pharisees were anal nut-jobs. But that is what Jesus
says. Forget the "born again" stuff and the children -- turn yourself into an anal nut-job
instead. Our righteousness, and our adherence to the laws of the old testament, must
exceed that of the Pharisees in order to enter the kingdom of heaven. Which means we
need to start killing a whole lot of people.

And then there is the famous verse, John 3:16:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
So which is it??? What do you have to do to have eternal life and go to heaven??? There
are probably 15 other stipulations scattered throughout the Bible. There is no way to
know which is right, and they all contradict each other. Now that you have looked at all
this stuff, one thing should be crystal clear: Jesus had absolutely no idea what he was
talking about.

The most amazing part of all this is that "eternal life" is a total fantasy. No one gets
eternal life, because what Jesus is peddling is a scam. Every biologist will tell you with
certainty that all of life is a chemical reaction. Therefore, the whole idea of a "soul" is a
figment of human imagination. See proof #25 and proof #27 for details.
When you add all of these examples up, the truth is completely obvious. Jesus wasn't
"the son of God." He was neither perfect nor sinless. Jesus was a total jerk. He was a
fatuous person if there ever was one. And he was a snake oil salesman besides. The fact
that "Christians" cannot see this shows the depth of their delusion.

It also shows that God is completely imaginary. For further details see proof #10, proof
#14, proof #15, proof #18, proof #21, and proof #33.

Proof #40 - Understand Christian motivations

Here is what we know about God:

There is no scientific evidence indicating that God exists. (see Proof #11)
There is no scientific evidence indicating that God answers prayers. (see Proof
#2, Proof #41)
If we set up an unambiguous situation -- like asking God to restore amputated
limbs -- God never answers prayers. (see Proof #9)
The Bible is clearly the work of primitive men, not of an all-knowing supernatural
being. (see Proof #13 and Proof #30)
Etc.

In other words, God is imaginary. It is obvious.

Yet, if you talk to actively practicing Christians, they ignore all of this evidence. They will
tell you that God certainly does exist and that he is answering prayers for them every
day. Christian bookstores and Christian magazines are filled with stories of answered
prayers. Christians believe that God is reaching down out of heaven and answering
billions of prayers on Earth for Christians.

Therefore, the question arises: If there is all of this evidence showing that God is
imaginary, and if there is certifiable, undeiable scientific evidence showing that God
never answers prayers, then why do Christians insist that God is real and that God is
answering prayers for them on a daily basis? What would prompt Christians to make
these statements despite all the contrary evidence?

To put it another way, what might motivate Christians to ignore the strong evidence
that God is imaginary? Here are five possibilities:

Christians might choose to believe that God is answering their prayers, despite
the evidence that "answered prayers" are nothing more than coincidences,
because they are afraid of death. As described in Proof #27, there is no evidence
whatsoever that there is a "heaven" or an "afterlife." Yet the prospect of
permanent mortality is very uncomfortable to many people. Because of this
discomfort, they may have such a strong reason to believe in Jesus' promise of
eternal life that they need to support their belief with other evidence. Since
Jesus also promises that he answers prayers, they are willing to turn any
coincidence into an "answered prayer" and ascribe the answer to Jesus. (see
Proof #27)
Christians might choose to believe that God is answering their prayers, despite
the evidence that "answered prayers" are nothing more than coincidences,
because it is a huge boost to the ego. This explanation works both for big
"miracles" and small ones. Imagine this: Imagine that you have cancer, you pray
to God for a cure, you undergo surgery and chemotherapy, and the cancer does
go into remission. What cured you? The surgery and chemo -- all evidence
indicates that this is the case. If God was going to cure you, you would have been
able to skip the surgery and chemo. Yet, as a Christian, it is a huge ego boost to
believe that the all-powerful creator of the universe cured you. It means he has
"big plans" for the rest of your life.

Or imagine something much smaller: you pray that God remove a stain from
your favorite blouse when you wash it, and after you wash it the stain is in fact
gone. It is the detergent that removed it. But a Christian interprets the event
differently. What it means to a Christian is that the all-powerful creator of the
universe has reached down from heaven to specifically hear and answer a
prayer. If you selectively ignore all the prayers that God does not "answer" with
the statement that "it is not part of his plan", then the idea that God is listening
to and responding to you individually can be tremendously satisfying to the ego.
It means that you are special in God's eyes. The entire thing is an illusion that is
created in the mind of the Christian to stroke the ego.

Christians might choose to believe that God is answering their prayers, despite
the evidence that "answered prayers" are nothing more than coincidences,
because they are afraid of being alone. They need an invisible friend to talk to in
order to cope with lonliness, and God is the "community sanctioned" invisible
friend that is accepted in our society. It may be that, for millions of people, an
invisible friend is the only way they can cope with being alone. In order to make
this invisible friend seem more real, it may help the illusion if you believe that he
hears and answers prayers.
When we are born, we instinctively have a place in our brains for an "all-
knowing, all-loving being". When we are young this being is called a parent, and
children naturally and instinctively bond to their parents. What if a large number
of people never outgrow this phase, and need to fill this place in their brains
with something once they have left their real parents and moved on? In other
words, what if this place in the brain remains into adulthood for many people,
long after it has served its need, and people feel lonely unless they fill this place
with something? Having an "all-knowing, all-loving" invisible friend would be an
obvious thing to fill it with. If you can heighten the illusion by believeing that this
imaginary friend answers prayers, all the better.
 Christians might choose to believe that God is answering their prayers, despite
the evidence that "answered prayers" are nothing more than coincidences,
because it makes them the center of attention with their peers at church. If you
ever watch a group of Christians comparing their answered prayers, you can see
how this process works. One Christian starts the conversation, "Well, my dog
Binky was suffering from terrible skin sores, and the vet gave me some medicine
and it didn't work when I first put it on, but I prayed to God and four days later
the sores were gone! Praise Jesus!" Now what can happen is a game of one-
upmanship. Another will say, "Well, I was planning my vacation and I had no idea
where the money was going to come from, so I prayed to God and that very day
a credit card offer came in my mail and the credit line was just enough to cover
the bills! Praise the Lord!" In such an environment, if you don't have a prayer
story to tell, it appears that you have lost favor with God. Therefore, you may be
willing to exagerate a little, and even make something up, in order not to lose
face with your peer group.

Is this a direct proof that God is imaginary? No. But it shows that Christians have strong
incentives to delude themselves into believing. What you can see is that Christians --
especially Christians who are members of church communities -- have strong reasons to
make up stories about prayer and to ignore all the evidence that "answered prayers"
really are coincidences. These motivations completely explain the phenomenon of
"answered prayers" in Christian communities.

Proof #41 - Flip a coin

If you are a Christian who believes in the power of prayer, here is a very simple
experiment that will show you something very interesting about your faith.

Take a coin out of your pocket. Now pray sincerely to Ra:

Dear Ra, almighty sun god, I am going to flip this ordinary coin 50 times, and I am
asking you to cause it to land heads-side-up all 50 times. In Ra's name I pray,
Amen.
Now flip the coin. Chances are that you won't get past the fifth or sixth flip and the coin
will land tails.

What does this mean? Most people would look at this data and conclude that Ra is
imaginary. We prayed to Ra, and Ra did nothing. We can prove that Ra is imaginary by
using statistical analysis. If we flip the coin thousands of times, praying to Ra each time,
we will find that the coin lands heads or tails in exact correlation with the normal laws
of probability. Ra has absolutely no effect on the coin no matter how much we pray.

Even if we find a thousand of Ra's most faithful believers and ask them to do the
praying/flipping, the results will be the same.
Therefore, as rational people, we conclude that Ra is imaginary. We look at Ra in the
same way that we look at Leprechauns, Mermaids, Santa and so on. We know that
people who believe in Ra are delusional.

Now let's try the experiment again, but this time let's pray to Jesus Christ instead of Ra.
Pray sincerely to Jesus like this:

Dear Jesus, I know that you exist and I know that you hear and answer prayers as
you promise in the Bible. I am going to flip this ordinary coin 50 times, and I am
asking you to cause it to land heads-side-up all 50 times. In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
Now flip the coin. Once again, after the fifth or sixth flip, the coin will land tails.

If we flip the coin thousands of times, praying to Jesus each time, we will find that the
coin lands heads or tails in exact correlation with the normal laws of probability. We can
gather together a group of Jesus' most pious followers to do the praying and the result
will be the same. Jesus will have zero effect on the coin.

This makes complete sense. It is not like there are two laws of probability -- one for
Christians who pray and the other for non-Christians. We all know that. There is only
one law of probability because prayers have zero effect. That goes for all prayers. Jesus
has no effect on our planet no matter how much we pray. We can prove that
conclusively using statitical analysis.

If you are a Christian, watch what is happening inside Key Point

your mind right now. The data is absolutely identical
in both experiments. With Ra you looked at the data It is not like there are two laws
rationally and concluded that Ra is imaginary. But of probability -- one for
with Jesus... something else will happen. In your mind, Christians who pray and the
you are already coming up with a thousand other for non-Christians. There
rationalizations to explain why Jesus did not answer is only one law of probability
your prayers: because prayers have zero
effect. Jesus has no effect on
It is not his will our planet no matter how much
He doesn't have time we pray.
I didn't pray the right way
I am not worthy
I do not have enough faith
I cannot test the Lord like this
It is not part of Jesus' plan for me
And on and on and on...

One rationalization that you may find yourself developing is particularly interesting. You
may say to yourself: “Well, of course Jesus doesn’t answer me when I pray about a coin
toss, because it is too trivial." Where did this rationalization come from? If you read
what Jesus says about prayer in the Bible (see Proof #1), Jesus does not ever say, "don't
pray to me about coin tosses." Jesus clearly says he will answer your prayers, and he
puts no boundaries on what you may pray for. You invented this rationalization out of
thin air.

If you are a Christian who is offended by the notion of praying about a coin toss, then
let's try this instead. Get down on your knees right now and pray as follows:

"Dear Jesus, son of God, the almighty, all-powerful, all-loving creator of the
universe, we pray to you to cure every case of cancer on this planet tonight.
Please hear our heartfelt, unselfish, non-materialistic prayer and fulfill your
promises in Matthew 7:7, Matthew 17:20, Matthew 21:21, Mark 11:24, John
14:12-14, Matthew 18:19, Mark 9:23, Luke 1:37, James 5:15-16 and many other
places. We pray knowing that when you answer this prayer, it will glorify God
and help millions of people in remarkable ways. In your name we pray, Amen."
Will every case of cancer be gone tomorrow? Of course not. If you are a believer, you
can create dozens of rationalizations for this unanswered prayer. But that does not
change the reality of the situation. There is zero effect from praying, and it does not
matter what you pray for.

You are an expert at creating rationalizations for Jesus. The reason you are an expert is
because Jesus does not answer any of your prayers (see Proof #2). The reason why Jesus
does not answer any of your prayers is because Jesus is imaginary. We can find dozens
of pieces of evidence to demonstrate that the Christian story is imaginary. Start with
Proof #1 to see them all.

Proof #42 - Listen when "God talks"

If you know a group of devout Christians, you will frequently hear them say to each
other (and even to people outside the group) things like this:

My husband and I are not sure what to do in this situation. We are going to pray
to God and see what he tells us to do.
According to televangelists and ministers, God also frequently talks to them as well.

In other words, Christians believe that God transmits divine messages to his followers in
response to prayer. Christians actually believe that the almighty, all-knowing creator of
the universe is talking to them personally and guiding their decisions.

Now think about this. Let's say that the all-powerful, all-knowing creator of the universe
was going to transmit personal messages to Christians. Wouldn't you expect the people
receiving these messages to blow the rest of us away in every intellectual endeavor?
Wouldn't you expect someone who is directed by God to be a genius? Wouldn't every
Christian student get a perfect score on every test simply by praying to God for the
answers?

Imagine, for example, that a Christian is having trouble deciding what color couch to
buy. So she prays to God for guidance. Wouldn't you expect the all-powerful, all-
knowing creator of the universe to come back with a message that just completely
blows all of us away? For example, wouldn't you expect a Christian to say:

You know, I prayed to God to help me decide which color couch to buy, and the
next thing I hear is God's voice in my head! And he starts telling me how to build
a nuclear fusion reactor that will completely solve the world's energy problems!
It's some kind of crazy laser-pumped Tokamak thing. I have no idea what he was
talking about, but I was the vessel for his spirit, and I have transcribed the
messages and diagrams that God sent to my brain in these 14 notebooks. You
can see that we now have complete construction details for a perfect, pollution
free, inexpensive fusion reactor -- Praise the Lord!"
Yes, that is what you expect from the all-powerful, all-knowing creator of the universe, if
God were real. You would expect the messages that God sends to blow us out of the
water with their brilliance.

The fact that God's messages to Christians are completely mundane tells us that God is
imaginary. What the Christian typically gets is this message: "Buy the red couch." That
message, of course, is the Christian's own brain making a decision, because God is
completely imaginary.

Proof #43 - Realize that a "hidden God" is impossible

Here is a line of reasoning that Christians will frequently use to try to rationalize the
complete lack of evidence for God's existence. In the book "The Case for Faith," the
author Lee Stroble interviews Peter Kreeft, Ph.D. Dr. Kreeft says the following:

"Scripture describes God as a hidden God. You have to make the effort of faith to
find him. There are clues you can follow. And if that weren't so, if there was
something more or less than clues, it's difficult for me to understand how we
could really be free to make a choice about him."
Clues? Hidden? According to the Bible God incarnated himself. He created an entire
human body named Jesus. That is not a "clue" -- that is a huge, obvious piece of
evidence. It is very hard to "hide" a 170-pound human being who is running around
performing miracles on every street corner. Then you collect the stories of those
miracles and publish them in a book. Where is the hiding in that?

There are examples of God's desire for publicity throughout the Bible. The best known is
God's parting of the Red Sea in the book of Exodus, chapter 14:
 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD drove the sea
back by a strong east wind all night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters
were divided. And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry
ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.
That is impressive, and it is utterly obvious. Thousands of Israelites witnessed this event.
There are many other events that are equally obvious: manna from heaven, the Ten
Commandments carved onto stone tablets, the Passover massacre and so on. All of it is
described in the Bible, which God wrote so that billions of people can read about these
events and experience them vicariously today.

It is pretty hard to hide something that you do in front of thousands of people and then
describe and publish in billions of books. Clearly God is not a hidden God.

But there is an even more impressive sign that we often forget. If God exists and God
wrote the Bible, then rainbows are actually proof that God exists. God is not hiding at
all. If you read Genesis 9:12-13 you will find this:

And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant which I make between me and
you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I set my
bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the
earth..."
What could be more obvious than that? God left a sign for all future generations,
according to the Bible. Clearly God does not want to hide.

There are also plenty of cases in the New Testament. For example, Matthew, Chapter
17:

After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured
before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the
light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up
three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah."

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the
cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to
him!"

These are not exactly the actions of a God in hiding. Apparently the free wills of Peter,
James and John were not that important to God. And again it is published in the Bible so
that billions of other people can read about it.

Or take this passage from the book of Matthew, Chapter 3:

 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment
heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and
lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with
him I am well pleased."
Again, not exactly a hidden God.

Or this passage from the book of Luke, Chapter 2:

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over
their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the
Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them,
"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the
people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ
the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and
lying in a manger."

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel,
praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men
on whom his favor rests."

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one
another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the
Lord has told us about."

The free will of the shepherds was certainly tarnished a bit here.

In 1 Corinthians 15:6, Paul says,

Then he [Jesus, after the resurrection] appeared to more than five hundred
brethren at one time.
Those 500 people must have lost their free will. And John says:
Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I
suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that
would be written. (John 21:25)
That's an awful lot of miracles -- so many that the world would not have room for all the
books describing them. Presumably at least one person witnessed each miracle. Think of
how many names fill just one phone book. Now imagine a whole world full of phone
books. That's a lot of people. Weren't all of their free wills affected? How is God hiding if
millions of people saw Jesus and the miracles he performed?

Jesus claims to be God, and Jesus is a physical being running around Israel for all to see.
He apparently performed millions of miracles in front of millions of people. The God of
the Bible is not hiding -- God is so hungry for publicity and exposure that he actually
incarnates himself and then starts performing miracles for everyone on the planet. Then
he creates a God-breathed book to describe everything and publishes billions of copies
all over the world.

Yet, for some reason, God wants none of us today to see any of those miracles because
he "needs to remain hidden" so that he will not "taint our free wills." Does that seem
likely? Or is it more likely that Jesus never performed a real miracle? When you combine
this evidence with the fact that Jesus answers no prayers (start with Proof #1), it is clear
to us what is actually happening. The idea that God is "hiding" is ridiculous. The fact is
that God is completely imaginary, and that is the real reason why there is absoutely no
evidence for God today.

Proof #44 - Think about a Christian housewife

Take one moment to think about a typical Christian and her "answered prayers." For
example, there is a Christian housewife in Pasadena who firmly believes that God
answered her prayer this morning to remove the mustard stain from her favorite
blouse. She prayed to God to help remove the stain, and after she washed it the stain
was gone. Praise Jesus!

There are tens of millions of true believers in the United States who know that God is
personally helping them each day with their trivial prayers. They believe that they have
a personal relationship with God, that God hears their prayers each day, and that God
has time to reach down and remove the mustard molecules one by one. They believe it
with all of their hearts.

It makes you wonder: If God has the time and the will to answer these trivial prayers,
manipulating the mustard molecules in response to a housewife's prayer, then what the
heck is God doing ignoring the billions of people on this planet who are living in stark,
abject poverty? It is when you think about this simple question that you realize how
imaginary God is and how delusional and completely self-centered Christians can be.

One obvious question that any rational person would ask is this: If an all-powerful god is
answering the housewife's prayer, why does she need to wash the shirt? Why not hang
the stained, wrinkled shirt in the closet and pray for God to clean and press it there? An
all-powerful God could just as easily remove the stain in the closet as he can in the
washing machine.

The second obvious question is this: If God is removing the stain, then why doesn't our
housewife pray for poverty to dissappear too? Why doesn't she watch tomorrow as the
world magically transforms itself into a poverty-free utopia, in the same way that her
blouse became mustard-free? Answer: because God is imaginary.

Proof #45 - Consider Noah's Ark

Have you ever taken the time to read the Bible's story of Noah's flood? And have you
ever pondered what this story's position in the Bible might actually mean? While there
are many people who consider the Bible, and therefore Noah's story, to be literally true,
most educated and intelligent people understand that the story of Noah's flood is a
myth. They understand that Mt. Everest was never covered in flood water, they
understand that the ark could not hold the millions of species that are now found on
earth, and they understand that there is no DNA evidence to show that all animals on
earth came from single breeding pairs just a few thousand years ago.

But there is one part of the story of Noah's Ark that deserves special recognition. It
shows us something about God that is quite unsettling to any intelligent person who
takes the time to consider his actions. That special section is this:

God senselessly murdered millions of humans and billions of animals in the flood
How do we know it was senseless? Because "God" is supposed to be "all-knowing" and
"all-powerful." If God were to exist, God would know what was coming when he created
Adam and Eve. Therefore, God knew he would be murdering millions of people.

This realization leads to an obvious question: Why didn't God simply speed up Jesus'
arrival to avoid the atrocity that is the flood? Or why didn't God program Adam and Eve
when he created them to completely circumvent the need for such a horrendous
atrocity?

You may have never considered this question, but it is exquisitely important. Because
the flood is an atrocity of the highest order. It is mass murder on a global scale.

The idea that Christians would accept a mass-murderer as their object of worship shows
us something about Christians, does it not? Think about it - By (supposedly) murdering
nearly every human on the planet, the Christian God is far more heinous than Hitler. No
"loving" and "perfect" being can also be a mass-murderer bent of global genocide. Yet
Christians willfully worship him. Why?

If you are a Christian, I would ask you to simply look inside yourself today. Why would
you accept a mass murderer into your life?

And Noah's flood is not the only place where God displays these horrific tendencies
toward mindless slaughter. Here are several other examples.

In the book of Exodus chapter 12 verse 28, God writes about one of his early massacres:

So the people of Israel did just as the LORD had commanded through Moses and
Aaron. And at midnight the LORD killed all the firstborn sons in the land of Egypt,
from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn son of
the captive in the dungeon. Even the firstborn of their livestock were killed.
 Pharaoh and his officials and all the people of Egypt woke up during the night,
and loud wailing was heard throughout the land of Egypt. There was not a single
house where someone had not died.
Here the death of the children is directly at the hand of God.

In Isaiah chapter 13, God paints this word picture:

Anyone who is captured will be run through with a sword. Their little children
will be dashed to death right before their eyes. Their homes will be sacked and
their wives raped by the attacking hordes. For I will stir up the Medes against
Babylon, and no amount of silver or gold will buy them off. The attacking armies
will shoot down the young people with arrows. They will have no mercy on
helpless babies and will show no compassion for the children.
Is this the imprint of a "loving" God?

In Jeremiah chapter 49, verse 20, God paints a similar picture:

Therefore hear the plan which the LORD has made against Edom and the
purposes which he has formed against the inhabitants of Teman: Even the little
ones of the flock shall be dragged away; surely their fold shall be appalled at
their fate. At the sound of their fall the earth shall tremble; the sound of their cry
shall be heard at the Red Sea.
In Hosea chapter 13, God paints a similar picture:
Samaria shall bear her guilt, because she has rebelled against her God; they shall
fall by the sword, their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant
women ripped open.
In Numbers chapter 31, God paints a similar picture:
Moses said to them, "Have you let all the women live? Behold, these caused the
people of Israel, by the counsel of Balaam, to act treacherously against the LORD
in the matter of Pe'or, and so the plague came among the congregation of the
LORD. Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every
woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have
not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
Here Moses, acting as an agent of God, specifies that thousands of male babies and
children be killed, as well as thousands of women. The Bible states in verse 35 that the
captured women numbered "thirty-two thousand persons in all, women who had not
known man by lying with him." This was not a small attack. Tens of thousands men,
women and children were massacred.

In Deuteronomy Chapter 3 we find this:

Next we turned and went up along the road toward Bashan, and Og king of
Bashan with his whole army marched out to meet us in battle at Edrei. The LORD
said to me, "Do not be afraid of him, for I have handed him over to you with his
 whole army and his land. Do to him what you did to Sihon king of the Amorites,
who reigned in Heshbon." So the LORD our God also gave into our hands Og king
of Bashan and all his army. We struck them down, leaving no survivors. At that
time we took all his cities. There was not one of the sixty cities that we did not
take from them—the whole region of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan. All these
cities were fortified with high walls and with gates and bars, and there were also
a great many unwalled villages. We completely destroyed them, as we had done
with Sihon king of Heshbon, destroying every city—men, women and children.
But all the livestock and the plunder from their cities we carried off for ourselves.
They massacred all the men, women and children in 60 cities at God's request.

Even in the "New Testament" we find the same sort of thing. In the book of Matthew,
chapter 2, mixed into the Christmas story, the Bible describes an amazing massacre of
thousands of babies:

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary
his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened
their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they
departed into their own country another way. And when they were departed,
behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and
take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until
I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he
arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was
spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding
wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in
all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which
he had diligently enquired of the wise men. Then was fulfilled that which was
spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, In Rama was there a voice heard,
lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children,
and would not be comforted, because they are not.
Think about the thousands of families who were affected by this massacre. The Bible
describes their suffering: they wept and could not be comforted. Of course they could
not be comforted. If you are a parent, you know exactly how distraught you would feel if
an agent of the government came to your door one morning and slaughtered your
children.

Why would God do this? Why would you want anything to do with such a muderous,
horrific being? What can we say about people who would want to believe in such a
being? Why would any normal, intelligent, ethical human being "worship" such a
heinous, demented and despicable "god" as this?
It is impossible for a "perfect" and "loving" being to also be heinous, demented and
despicable. As an intelligent person, you should be able to see that.

This impossibility tells us that God is imaginary.

Proof #46 - Ponder Pascal's Wager

You will frequently hear believers make the following rationalization:

Suppose you are right. Suppose there is no God. Then when I die as a believer, I
have lost nothing. I just die, as a man that devoted his life to love and morals.
But if you, as a non-believer, are wrong and I am right, you have to spend an
eternity in hell. See, I have nothing to lose, but you have everything to lose.
This argument is best known as Pascal's Wager.

The problem with this line of reasoning is that there are thousands of gods that humans
have imagined. A person who believes in Allah can make this statement, and so can a
person who believes in God, and so can a person who believes in Vishnu. This multitude
of fictional beings shows the silliness of the argument. There is no way to know which
god to choose, because there is no evidence whatsoever indicating that any of them
exist.

The fact is that religion is delusion. All human gods are imaginary. By believing in an
imaginary god, a believer has not "lost nothing." Believers commit themselves to a
lifetime of delusion, instead of commiting their lives to reality.

Non-believers, in contrast, live moral and loving lives without having to resort to
delusion. Non-believers are normal human beings who embrace reality rather than
delusion. As a result, they live much healthier lives.

The fact that there are so many gods proves that all of these gods are imaginary. If there
actually were an all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving "god" in any form, he would be
obvious to everyone and we would all align on him. His existence would be undeniable
and impossible to hide.

Proof #47 - Contemplate creation

Many Christians look at our universe, and especially life on planet Earth, and come to
the conclusion that what we see is "irreducible complexity." In the Christian view, the
complexity of our universe and life on earth requires an intelligent creator to bring
everything into existence. A Christian might say:

"Look at how amazing and complex life is. Look at how intricate the human eye
is, and the human brain. There is no way that the human eye and the human
 brain arose spontaneously from the mud. In the same way that a watch cannot
appear without a watchmaker, there is no way that all this complexity arose
without an intelligent creator."
So, we have a question that demands an answer:
Did the complexity of life arise spontaneously, or did it require a creator?

Christians believe that a creator is essential. Scientists believe that the idea of a
"creator" is pure mythology, and that the complexity arose through natural processes
like evolution. Who is right?

You can actually answer this question yourself with a little logic. Here are the two
options:

1. The complexity of life and the universe did arise completely spontaneously and
without any intelligence. Nature created all the complexity we see today.
2. An intelligent creator created all of the complexity that we see today because
complexity requires intelligence to create it.

The advantage of the first option is that it is self-contained. The complexity arose
spontaneously. No other explanation is required.

The problem with the second option is that it immediately creates an impossibility. If
complexity cannot arise without intelligence, then we immediately must ask, "Who
created the intelligent creator?" The creator could not spring into existence if
complexity requires intelligence. Therefore, God is impossible.

In other words, by applying logic, we can prove that God is imaginary.

Proof #48 - Compare prayer to a lucky horseshoe

The dictionary defines the word "superstition" in this way:

An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to

a course of events influences its outcome. [ref]
We have all seen plenty of superstitions. There are the superstitions that a rabbit's foot
or a four-leaf clover bring good luck. There are the superstitions that breaking a mirror
or seeing a black cat bring bad luck. And we all know that these superstitions are silly. A
rabbit's foot or a broken mirror has no good or bad influence on the course of events.
This is obvious to any intelligent person.

So let's imagine the following situation. Let's say that you have cancer. You are lying in
the hospital after a round of chemo and you feel terrible. A person pops into your room
with a bright smile on his face and a horseshoe in his hand. He says to you, "This is an
amazing and lucky horseshoe. If you touch this horseshoe, it will cure your cancer. But I
need to charge you $100 to touch it."

Would you pay the man $100?

Of course not. We all know that touching the horseshoe will have zero effect on cancer.
The belief in lucky horseshoes is pure superstition.

It is also very easy to scientifically prove that the horseshoe has no effect on cancer (or
anything else). The way we would do it is simple: we would take 1,000 cancer patients
and split them randomly into two groups of 500. We would let 500 of the cancer
patients touch the lucky horseshoe and we would leave the other 500 alone in a double-
blind way. Then we would look at cancer remission rates between the two groups. What
we would find is zero benefit from the horseshoe. We would see no statistical difference
between the remission rates in the two groups of 500 patients.

Prayer

Now let us imagine another situation. You have cancer, you have just finished a round of
chemo and you feel terrible. This time, a person pops into your room with a bright smile
on his face and a bible in his hand. He says to you, "There is a being named God who is
the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving creator of the universe. I am his representative
on earth. If you will allow me to pray to God on your behalf, God will cure your cancer."

You agree to the prayer, and the man prays over you for 10 minutes. He invokes all the
healing powers of God, beseeching him, reciting verses of scripture and so forth.
Afterwards, as he is getting ready to leave, the man says, "Oh, and by the way, God says
that you should tithe 10% of your income to the church. Would you consider making a
tax-deductible donation today?"

The question is: Is there any difference between the two men? Will the prayer have any
effect greater than the horseshoe?

The answer is: No. The belief in prayer is just as superstitious as the belief in lucky
horseshoes.

The fascinating thing is that we can prove that prayer has no effect in exactly the same
way that we can prove that horseshoes have no effect. We take 1,000 cancer patients.
We pray over 500 of them and we leave the other 500 alone. Then we look at cancer
remission rates between the two groups. What we find is that prayers have zero benefit.
We would see no statistical difference between the remission rates in the two groups of
500 patients.
In other words, we can prove that the belief in prayer is pure superstition. The belief in
the power of prayer is no different from the belief in the power of lucky horseshoes.

Prayers don't help heart surgery patients; Some fare worse when prayed for

Quite simply, prayer has absolutely no effect on the outcome of any event. The "power
of prayer" is actually "the power of coincidence." Belief in prayer is pure superstition.

Prayer has absolutely no effect in every scientific experiment we perform because God
is imaginary.

Proof #49 - Look at who speaks for God

In Christian mythology, God is supposed to the the all-powerful, all-knowing creator of

the universe. God is supposed to have incarnated himself as Jesus and he is supposed to
have written the Bible. And yet today God is completely and absolutely silent.
Therefore, the only thing we hear from God comes from people who are speaking on his
behalf.

If you would like to understand how imaginary God is, all that you have to do is listen to
God's spokespeople, because in many cases these people are lunatics. If there actually
were a God, and if he actually had anything to do with love, he would silence these
people because they are an absolute embarrassment.

If God were real, he would speak for himself. The fact that God does not speak, and that
he allows any lunatic who comes along to speak "in his name," shows us that God is
quite imaginary.

Proof #50 - Ask Jesus to appear

Just about everyone knows the story of Jesus' death and resurrection. The story is
summarized in the Apostles' Creed. Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried. He
descended into hell. On the third day he arose again from the dead.

There is only one way for Jesus to prove that he rose from the dead. He had to appear
to people. Therefore, several different places in the Bible describe Jesus' appearances
after his death:

Matthew chapter 28
Mark chapter 16
Luke chapter 24
John Chapter 20 and 21

1 Corinthians 15:3-6 provides a nice summary of those

passages, as written by Paul:
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also Watch the video
received, that Christ died for our sins in accordance with
the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in
accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the
twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most
of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to
James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared
also to me.
As you can see in this passage, Jesus appeared to hundreds of people a number of
different times.

Being like Paul

When we look at 1 Corinthians 15:3-6, there is a question This proof generated so

that comes to mind -- why did Jesus stop making these many rationalizations
appearances? Why isn't Jesus appearing today? and excuses that we had
to create a separate page
It really is odd. Obviously Paul benefitted from a personal to rebutt them all. See
meeting with the resurrected Christ. Because of the personal the Excuses page for a
visit, Paul could see for himself the truth of the resurrection, complete list.
and he could ask Jesus questions.

So... Why doesn't Jesus appear to everyone and prove that he is resurrected, just like he
appeared to Paul? There is nothing to stop Jesus from materializing in your kitchen
tonight to have a personal chat with you. And if you think about it, Jesus really does
need to appear to each of us. If Paul needed a personal visit from Jesus to know that
Jesus was resurrected, then why wouldn't you?

It is an important question for the following reasons:

 We are told by the Bible that Jesus appeared to hundreds of people.
We therefore know that it is OK for Jesus to appear to people -- it does not take
away their free will, for example -- because it was OK for Jesus to appear to
hundreds of other people.
We know that it would be easy for Jesus to appear to everyone all through
history, since Jesus is all-powerful and timeless.
We know that, if Jesus did reappear to everyone, it would be incredibly helpful.
We could all know, personally, that Jesus is resurrected and that Jesus is God. If
Paul (and all the other people in the Bible) needed a personal visit to know that
Jesus was resurrected, then why not you and me?
Yet, we all know that Jesus has not appeared to anyone in 2,000 years.

In other words, there is nothing stopping Jesus from appearing to you, and several good
reasons for him to appear.

In addition, Jesus promises that he will appear to you. All that we have to do is pray to
Jesus like this: "Dear Jesus, please appear to us, as you did to Paul and the 500 brethren,
so that we can see the evidence of your resurrection. In your name we pray, amen."
Here is what Jesus has promised us in the Bible:

Matthew 7:7 Jesus says:

Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened
to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who
knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will
give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who
are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your
Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
In John chapter 14:14:
Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the
Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
In Matthew 18:19:
Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be
done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in
my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Jesus is actually in our midst. So he is right here already, supposedly. Yet when we pray
to him to physically materialize, as he did to hundreds of others, nothing happens.

Isn't it odd that Nothing happens, given the fact that Jesus promises us that something
will happen? Isn't it odd that Nothing happens when, supposedly, Jesus is right here
with us already, and materialization would be trivial for him? Isn't it odd that Nothing
happens when, supposedly, Jesus was happy to appear to hundreds of others?
What you will find, if you think about it, is that the situation we see here is the kind of
unambiguous situation described Proof #9. We have created a situation where
coincidence cannot "answer" the prayer. The only way for this prayer to be answered is
for Jesus to actually, unambiguously, materialize. In this situation, we also know that:

1. It is trivial for Jesus to materialize

2. There would be many benefits if Jesus did materialize
3. Jesus has supposedly materialized to other human beings
4. Jesus has promised to answer our prayer that he materialize

How do we explain the fact that this prayer goes unanswered, no matter who prays,
despite Jesus' promise that he will answer our prayers?

As you think about this, you will realize that Paul's story in the Bible is false. Simply look
at Paul's story like any judge in a courtroom would. What Paul's story in 1 Cor 15 is
suggesting is entirely unprecedented - a man dead three days with mortal wounds came
back to life. Yet there is no evidence that it is true, and there are many alternative
explanations for what Paul is saying. Paul could be fabricating the story, Paul could have
hallucinated or dreamed the meeting, Paul could have seen an imposter, etc. In
addition, no one is seeing Jesus today, even though it would be trivial and obvious for
Jesus to appear to people today just like he did with Paul, and Jesus promises in the
Bible that he will answer our prayers.

What about Jesus' famous statement in the Bible, "Happy are those who have not seen
yet still believe"? What you realize is that this statement creates the perfect cover for a
scam. Let's say you are Jesus, you are a normal human being, you realize that you are
going to die (everybody does) and you want to cover for this fact. Here is what you
would say: "Happy are those who have not seen yet still believe." What you are saying
is, "the way I am going to show you that I exist is by not showing that I exist." For every
other object in the universe, the way that we know it exists is because the object
provides evidence of its existence. If there is no evidence for an object's existence, we
call it imaginary (e.g. Leprechauns). But with Jesus, the lack of evidence is turned into
evidence. Quite clever, but obviously a scam.

If the resurrection were true, then Jesus would be answering prayers as he promises in
the Bible. He would appear when people pray to see him. The reason why he does not
appear is simple: Both Jesus and God are imaginary.

How will we change the world, so that it becomes rational rather than religious? It is
fascinating to think about how the transition will occur. Here are two things to consider:

There once was a time in America when no woman could vote. Yet, somehow,
even though women could not vote, they all have the right to vote today. How
did that happen?
 There was once a time in America where the large majority of people smoked
cigarettes. Smoking was allowed everywhere -- even on airplanes and in public
restrooms. Yet today, smoking is banned in most public spaces, including
airplanes. How did that happen?

Both processes were remarkable and both mark tectonic shifts in public thinking. How
did they happen?

The answer is that those two processes had to start somewhere. There had to come a
point where some group of people in the minority said, "this is wrong, and we need to
fix it." They began openly talking about the problem. Then other people in the minority
agreed. Then, eventually, the minority began to influence those on the outer edges of
the majority. Once that process started and gained sufficient momentum, the majority
(e.g. smokers) became the minority. And now we all understand that smokers have a
problem. Smokers were unfortunate to become dependent on a highly addictive drug as
teenagers, at a time when their rational brains were not fully developed. As a society,
we now do our best to discourage teens from getting hooked and to help those who are
already addicted.

Here is a simple question: Can we have the same sort of effect on religions like
Christianity? Can we change Christianity from a "majority" activity into a fringe activity,
and in the process replace it with something much, much better?

The idea of unseating something as strong as Christianity sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?
But then, when women first started talking about gaining the right to vote, that sounded
ridiculous too. We have to start somewhere.

This web site represents a starting point.

The way to change the world is to change people's minds. As more and more people
openly discuss the fact that "God" and "Allah" are completely imaginary, the world
becomes a better place. The people who believe in "religion" look sillier and sillier.
Eventually, religion becomes a fringe activity that is meaningless.

Understanding the Excuses

Proof #50 shows that Jesus is imaginary. Yet, despite the evidence that we all can see,
believers make excuses to try to rationalize their belief. On this page we look at these
excuses one by one.

Imagine that you are talking to a devout Christian. You ask her, "Is Jesus real?" Her
response might go something like this:

Is Jesus real??? What a silly question! Of course he is! Jesus is the living son of
God! I have a personal, loving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. I pray to
him every day, and he answers my prayers. He helps me make important
decisions and guides me in everything I do. I walk with Jesus every step I take.
Jesus loves me and has a plan for my life. Jesus is my savior, the rock of my
salvation. His blood washes all of us and forgives us our sins."

Now ask her:

Has Jesus ever appeared to you in the flesh? Can the resurrected Jesus appear to
us right now?

The answers will of course be "No" and No". Now ask this simple question:

Why Not? Jesus has to appear to people to prove that he is resurrected.

According to the Bible, Jesus appeared to hundreds of people. In the Bible Jesus
promises to answer our prayers. So why wouldn't Jesus appear to us to prove
that he is God? Why can't we pray for him to appear right now, and have him
appear?"

As soon as you ask this question, the excuses will start to flow. Here is an explanation of
each one:

Excuse #1 - Jesus never promises to answer prayers

Normally this excuse will be phrased with something like, "God is not a big vending
machine," or "God is not your personal Genie!" And yet, there is no denying that we can
find verses in the Bible where Jesus specifically promises to answer your prayers.

For example, in Matthew 7:7 Jesus says:

Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened
to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who
knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will
give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who
are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your
 Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

So if we ask for Jesus to appear in the flesh, he should appear? Right?

In Matthew 17:20 Jesus says:

For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to
this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be
impossible to you.

If nothing is impossible for you, then you should be able to ask for Jesus to appear in the
flesh, and he should appear? Right?

In Matthew 21:21:

I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what
was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw
yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive
whatever you ask for in prayer.

If you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer, then you should be able to ask for
Jesus to appear in the flesh, and he should appear? Right?

The message is reiterated Mark 11:24:

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have
received it, and it will be yours.

If whatever you ask for in prayer will be yours, then you should be able to ask for Jesus
to appear in the flesh, and he should appear? Right?

In John chapter 14, verses 12 through 14, Jesus tells all of us just how easy prayer can
be:

"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do;
and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. Whatever
you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son; if you
ask anything in my name, I will do it.

If Jesus will do whatever you ask for in prayer, then you should be able to ask for Jesus
to appear in the flesh, and he should appear? Right?

In Matthew 18:19 Jesus says it again:

 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be
done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in
my name, there am I in the midst of them.

If anything you ask will be done for you, then you should be able to ask for Jesus to
appear in the flesh, and he should appear? Right?

In Mark 9:23:

All things are possible to him who believes.

If all things are possible, then you should be able to ask for Jesus to appear in the flesh,
and he should appear? Right?

In Luke 1:37:

For with God nothing will be impossible.

If nothing will be impossible, then you should be able to ask for Jesus to appear in the
flesh, and he should appear? Right?

In other words, despite what Christians say to try to rationalize their unanswered
prayers, Jesus does promise in the Bible, in many different places, that he will answer
our prayers. There is no way to misinterpret what Jesus says, and these verses are not
taken "out of context". Jesus clearly promises to answer prayers.

It would be trivial for the all-powerful, all-loving son of God to materialize in the Flesh.
Supposedly he has done it for hundreds of people. Supposedly he is in our midst
already. Yet when we pray and ask him to materialize, nothing happens. For any rational
adult, this proves that Jesus is imaginary, especially when you combine it with so many
other proofs.

Excuse #2 - It is not Jesus' will to appear

Often this excuse will be coupled with the following explanation, "Jesus is a conscious,
sentient, all-knowing being. He has a will of his own, just like you do. He hears your
prayer, but he has the option of answering, 'No.' We cannot know the reasons why, but
Jesus has his divine reasons for never appearing on earth."

This explanation, of course, directly contradicts all of the Bible verses quoted above.

At another level, imagine for a moment that Jesus does exist. He is all-loving and all-
powerful. He is "in our midst" already, according to Matthew 18:20. He has promised in
many places to answer prayers. He supposedly hears your prayer. And then he just
stands there laughing at you. "What, ME appear to YOU - you must be JOKING!!!" is
what Jesus would be saying.

In reality, what we have done here is create an unambiguous situation, as described in

Proof #9. There is only one way for Jesus to appear in this situation: he must exist.
Coincidence cannot answer this prayer. Since he does not appear, we know he is
imaginary.

Excuse #3 - Thou shalt not test the lord

This is a really common one: "It says right in the Bible that thou shalt not test the Lord.
In step 3, your prayer tests him, so of course he doesn't appear."

Here's the most interesting thing about this rationalization. We are supposed to ignore
all of verses in step 1 because "you can't take the Bible literally." But then we are
supposed to take the verse that says, "Thou shalt not test the Lord" literally. This
disconnection shows how strong the delusion of Christianity can be.

Here is another interesting point: EVERY prayer is a test. If God cannot be tested, then
no one can pray.

It is also fascinating that millions of Christians keep prayer journals to track exactly what
happens when they pray. See, for example, Prayer-journal.com, or this list of sites. Why
don't these Christians pray for the resurrected Jesus to appear to them and track this
prayer in their journals?

Excuse #4 - It would destroy our free will if Jesus appeared to us

This is the famous free will argument. Of course, if this argument were true, then God
could not incarnate himself on earth. Jesus is supposed to be God. He supposedly came
to earth and millions of people saw him. According to the Gospel of John:

Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I
suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that
would be written. (John 21:25)

That's an awful lot of miracles -- so many that the world would not have room for all the
books describing them. Presumably at least one person witnessed each miracle. Think of
how many names fill just one phone book. Now imagine a whole world full of phone
books. That's millions of people who all had their free wills destroyed by Jesus' presence
on earth.

Clearly the issue of "free will" is irrelevant. It is purely a rationalization.

Jesus could appear to all of us today just like he (supposedly) appeared to millions of
people when he was on earth.

Excuse #5 - Jesus does appear to people - He appeared to a dozen people at the XYZ
church last week

The obvious response is, "Really? Can you prove that? For example, do you have a video
tape showing his appearance? Did you ask Jesus a question, like 'what will be the
winning PowerBall numbers next week?' that would certify his omniscience? Did you ask
him to move Mt. Everest to Nevada to prove his omnipotence?"

Excuse #6 - Jesus does appear to people - He appeared as an image on my breakfast

toast this morning

To rational people, these are called coincidences. If Jesus was going to appear to you as
he did in the Bible, he would appear in the flesh as a living, breathing person.

Excuse #7 - Jesus does not appear to me, but he does speak to me every day and guide
me in everything I do.

To rational people, these are called hallucinations.

Since Jesus is an all-knowing being, if he were actually talking to you, he would be able
to tell you things that no one else knows. You, as a person channeling Jesus, would be
the smartest person on earth. You would ace every test you took. You would never
make mistakes. You would know what the winning PowerBall numbers would be next
week. You would be able to solve world hunger, etc. The fact that none of these things
are happening shows us that you are hallucinating.

Drawing a conclusion

Here are the facts:

1. Jesus has promised to answer our prayers (see excuse #1 above).

2. It would be trivial for Jesus to appear since he is all-powerful and timeless.
3. We know it is OK for Jesus to appear to people because, according to the Bible,
Jesus has appeared to hundreds.
4. There are no issues with free will (see excuse #4 above).
5. The only way for Jesus to prove that he is resurrected is to appear to people.
Therefore, each person needs an appearance by Jesus to know that he is real.
Therefore, since Jesus does not appear, we know that he is imaginary. The story of
Jesus' resurrection is no different from the story of Rudolf the Rednosed Reindeer or
Jack's Beanstalk.

Whenever anyone says "God," we should reply, "God is imaginary."
