Title: Global Warming

Global warming has become a serious from day to day. In fact, it has now
become a topical issue in recent years. As we can see, the world is getting warmer
as the temperature of the earth has increased. Global warming is a climatic crisis in
due to the increase in the average temperature of the world over time created by
natural variables and the increase of greenhouse gases, which many scientists
believe are caused by man (Tennesen, 2008). Global warming does not happen
naturally but it occurs because of the human activities. A lot of research had been
done by scientists concerning the issue of global warming showing that the earth is
now experiencing vigorous climate changes and the entire creatures in this planet
including us, have to adapt and experience these particular changes that happen.

The major cause of global warming is the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal
and natural gas, which releases into the atmosphere carbon dioxide and other
substances known as greenhouse gases. Timeforchange.org (2008) states that
greenhouse gases in the atmosphere act like a mirror and reflect back to the Earth a
part of the heat radiation, which would otherwise be lost into space. The higher the
concentration of green house gases like carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the more
heat energy is being reflected back to the Earth. Nowadays vehicles have become
essential for humans. Many people use cars now. The combustion of fuels in
vehicles releases carbon dioxide gas that is very dangerous into the air.

Besides that, the combustion of gas from factories and electricity production
such as from refrigerators may lead to global warming as it pollutes the air with
hazardous gases which are trapped in the atmosphere. Furthermore, many trees
have been cut down for development. This mankind activity also increases the
temperature of the earth. Why do I say that? Deforestation is the source of
greenhouse effects because fewer trees mean less carbon dioxide conversion to
oxygen.

The effect of global warming is the weather changes. Scientists predict that
during global warming, the northern regions of the Northern Hemisphere will heat up
more than other areas of the planet, and northern and mountain glaciers will shrink
(Hart, 2006). As the concentration of greenhouse gases grows, more heat is trapped
in the atmosphere such as in Malaysia. I am studying in Perlis and I find that the
weather is too hot that its affects my health. This happens because of the
combustion of the paddy fields near my institute that contributes to global warming.
Because of the warm weather, diseases like fever may spread easily. Besides, the
sea levels may increase. As the atmosphere warms, the surface layer of the ocean
warms as well and thus the sea level rises (Hart, 2006). The glacier ice at the
Antarctic also melts vigorously and due to that, flood happens.

To me, the issue concerning global warming should be overcome. We should

save our world from being destroyed. It can be done by reducing, reusing and
recycling. By recycling half of our household waste, we can save 2,400 pounds of
carbon dioxide annually. Besides we should use public transport. By doing this, we
can reduce the amount of dangerous gases that will be released into the air. Less
driving means fewer emissions. Besides the government should organize campaigns
so that the awareness among people increases.

For example, last year, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) had organized the ‘60
Earth Hours’ programme. This programme encouraged people to save the world by
switching off lights for one hour. This program increased the awareness among
people as the world we stay right now faces a very serious problem. We have to be
responsible for our future.

In my point of view, the issue of global warming will not happen if we take
efficient steps to overcome it. We should play our roles so that it will decrease. We
do not only prevent the earth from collapsing but we also help ourselves to be a
responsible people. I really hope global warming will decrease and that everyone
gives their full commitment and responsibility in order to save our environment
because we are the ones who made the world suffer and now we have to fix it.
