3 – HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
WARNING Flammable.

Contains methanol. Irritating to eyes and skin. Methanol may cause central nervous system effects or
permanent vision damage if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through the skin in large amounts. Do not get in
eyes, on skin, on clothing. Do not take internally. Wear suitable protective clothing. Keep container tightly
closed. Water in contact with the product will cause slippery floor conditions.

Empty product containers may contain residual product. Do not reuse container unless properly
reconditioned.

PRIMARY ROUTES OF EXPOSURE : Eye, Skin

EYE CONTACT : Can cause moderate irritation.

INGESTION : Not a likely route of exposure. Can cause blindness.

SKIN CONTACT : Methanol may be absorbed through the skin and cause central nervous system effects
which may result in permanent visual changes including blindness. Can cause moderate irritation.

INHALATION : Not a likely route of exposure. Repeated or prolonged exposure may irritate the respiratory
tract.

SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE ACUTE: Inhalation of high concentrations of organic solvents can cause
nausea, dizziness, vomiting, stupor or unconsciousness.
CHRONIC: Frequent or prolonged contact with product may defat and dry the skin, leading to discomfort
and dermatitis.

AGGRAVATION OF EXISTING CONDITIONS: Skin contact may aggravate an existing dermatitis condition.

4 – FIRST AID MEASURES


EYE CONTACT : Immediately flush eye with water for at least 15 minutes while holding eyelids open. If
symptoms develop, seek medical advice.

SKIN CONTACT : Immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. For a large splash, flood
body under a shower. If symptoms develop, seek medical advice.

INGESTION : Induce vomiting if the patient is fully conscious. If conscious, washout mouth and give water
to drink. Get immediate medical attention.

INHALATION : Remove to fresh air, treat symptomatically. Get medical attention.

NOTE TO PHYSICIAN : Based on the individual reactions of the patient, the physician's judgement should
be used to control symptoms and clinical condition.

CAUTION: If unconscious, having trouble breathing or in convulsions, do not induce vomiting or give water.

5 – FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES


EXTINGUISHING MEDIA : Alcohol foam, Carbon dioxide, Dry powder, Other extinguishing agent suitable
for Class B fires, For large fires, use water spray or fog, thoroughly drenching the burning material. Water
mist may be used to cool closed containers.

FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD: May evolve oxides of carbon (COx) under fire conditions.

SPECIAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT FOR FIRE FIGHTING: In case of fire, wear a full face positive-
pressure self contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.

6 – ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS: Restrict access to area as appropriate until clean-up operations are complete.
Use personal protective equipment recommended in Section 8 (Exposure Controls/Personal Protection).
Stop or reduce any leaks if it is safe to do so. Ventilate spill area if possible. Ensure clean up is conducted
by trained personnel only. Do not touch spilled material. Have emergency equipment (for fires, spills, leaks,
etc.) readily available. Notify appropriate government occupational health and safety and environmental
authorities.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS: Do not contaminate surface water.

METHODS FOR CLEANING UP: Dick to prevent further movement and contain with absorbent material,
such as clay, soil or any commercially available absorbent. Shovel reclaimed liquid and absorbent into
recovery or salvage drums for disposal.

7- HANDLING AND STORAGE

HANDLING: Maintain emergency equipment (for fires, spills, leaks, etc.) readily available. Wear protective
equipment describe in Section 8 (Exposure Controls/Personal Protection) when handling the product

PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFETY HANDLING: When handling this product use, whenever possible, local
exhaust system in a well-ventilated area. Wear individual protective equipment describe in Section 8
(Exposure Controls/Personal Protection) when handling the product.

DIRECTIONS FOR SAFETY HANDLING: Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Do not take internally.
Handle the product in a ventilated area. Wear individual protective equipment describe in Section 8
(Exposure Controls/Personal Protection).

STORAGE CONDITIONS: Store separately Heat and sources of ignition including static discharges. Store
separately from incompatible materials. Store the containers tightly closed. Store in suitable labeled
containers. Keep the product in fresh and dry area and, if possible, in covered areas.

INCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS OR SUBSTANCES: Strong oxidizers.

UNSUITABLE CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL: Packing material for the product should be compatible with its
physical-chemical characteristics.

8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

ENGINEERING MEASURES: General ventilation is recommended in the area where product is being
handled.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: If significant mists, vapors or aerosols are generated an approved


respirator is recommended. An organic vapor cartridge with dust/mist prefilter or supplied air may be used.
In event of emergency or planned entry into unknown concentrations a positive pressure, full-facepiece
SCBA should be used. If respiratory protection is required, institute a complete respiratory protection
program including selection, fit testing, maintenance and inspection

HAND PROTECTION: Wear gloves when handling this product. Nitrile gloves, Rubber gloves, Butyl gloves,
Neoprene gloves, PVC gloves, Cloth gloves.

EYE PROTECTION: Wear chemical splash goggles.

SKIN PROTECTION: Wear impervious apron and boots.

HYGIENE RECOMMENDATIONS: If clothing is contaminated, remove clothing and thoroughly wash the
affected area. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse. Keep an eyewash fountain available. Keep a
safety shower available.
