News from the APM Our churchwardens are Phil Atkinson and John
Dracup, Deanery reps are Sally Dinsdale, Sandy Vanstan and Roger
Wills, PCC reps are James Parkinson, Jenny Farrall-Bird and Elaine
Wells. The meeting focused on the future and in particular the Well
involvement with The lighthouse Group. A Christian organisation to
bring quality alternative education for those on the brink of
exclusion and beyond in High Schools. We now have a partnership
with them to provide a part-time service to schools in the Wakefield
area. This will build on the already good work that Gav and Jenny
are doing with Freeston in mentoring students. We will be
advertising for staffing for the centre in the near future. The centre
will be based in the Parish Rooms on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday
and Friday afternoons each week during term time. This will mean
some reorganising of the Parish Rooms to meet Ofsted requirements
for the unit that we are hopeful of getting funding from elsewhere.

Church Walks On the Monday (9th May) we will have our next
Monday afternoon walk which will probably be at Wentbridge.
Please let John and Kate know if you are planning to come
(tel:223893) and meet at the Parish Rooms at 1.00 pm.
Our next Saturday walk will be on 21st May.

Churches Together The next service will be here on the Sunday

evening of May 29th. Everyone welcome.

PCC The minutes from the standingcommittee meeting are in the

pigeon holes.

Annual Self Declaration Forms are on the welcome desk, would

everyone who holds a CRB please complete this form again and
hand it in to the church office. Everyone who participates in any
church activity and does not yet have a CRB please collect a form
from the office.

Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir A change of style and a change of

venue feature in the Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir’s next concert
of ‘Springtime Jazz’ to be held in Leeds in ‘The Venue’ at the
Leeds College of Music on Saturday 21st May at 7.30 pm. For
the second time in recent years the choir moves out of its usual
comfort zone and into Jazz and Blues, featuring Will Todd’s ‘Mass in
Blue’ and Bob Chilcott’s ‘Little Jazz Mass’. The concert is the first in
YPC’s partnership with the College and also features the College’s
Jazz ensemble. Tickets are £12 (£10 concessions). Contact Derek
or ring 364862 or ypctickets@googlemail.com. ‘The Venue’ is a
relatively new performing space and features full audience facilities
and
excellent modern comfort. It is situated across the road from the
Leeds bus station, next to the Playhouse. Come and enjoy a great
foot-tapping night out in modern surroundings.
