A Bright Future for This Wonderful Town of Ours.

Introducing: The Realtown Maungaturoto Residents’ Association

Wednesday the 13th of April 2011 saw the amalgamation of Maungaturoto’s Business
Association and Real Town Maungaturoto to form a new group named the Real Town
Maungaturoto Residents’ Association. The choice of name for this group was made to
encompass the inclusive vision of the group; an Association for ALL residents of
Maungaturoto.

The Maungaturoto Residents Association will assume the goals and roles of both Real Town Maun-
gaturoto and the Maungaturoto Business Association.

As a resident of Maungaturoto you are automatically a member of the Residents’ Association and
welcome at all meetings. It was decided that because this is a community Residents’ Association
no fees will currently be charged to members.

Often at times it can feel that groups within our community are working in competition with each
other, pulling in different directions. A lot of the strength of the Residents’ Association will be drawn
from the ability of groups and individuals to work cohesively and supportively, sharing resources
and information to ensure success for all. It is the intention that all community groups have
representation within the Residents’ Association. All residents and community groups are invited to
be a part of and share their ideas and visions for their town.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday the 10 May 7.30pm at the Maungaturoto Country Club.
On the agenda for the next meeting will be a review of the vision of the Residents’ Association and
to discuss the organisational structure of this exciting new group. Any members of the community
are encouraged to come along and see what is on the agenda or to add to it. If you love Maunga-
turoto and want to be involved in it’s future then this is the time to come along and have a look.

If you want further information or want to be involved in any way, please contact the Maungaturoto
Residents’ Association president Mike Forbes on 4319 055 or mdforbes@xtra.co.nz

Come on Maungaturoto - get behind this exciting new initiative and be a part of something great.
We all love this town and even if you want to be involved in the smallest part, let someone on the
committee know or come along to a meeting – there is no pressure to be a committee member, just
input, involvement and participation are vital.

News from the Otamatea Repertory Theatre.

“Annie”
The next major production for 2011 will be “Annie” and will be on stage from July 29th to August
21st.
Auditions have been held and a full cast is about to start work on rehearsals.

Annie is a Broadway musical based upon the popular comic strip Little Orphan Annie. The origi-
nal Broadway production opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years, setting a record for the
Alvin Theatre in New York. It spawned numerous productions in many countries, as well as na-
tional tours, and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical's songs "Tomorrow" and
"It's the Hard-Knock Life" are among its most popular musical numbers.

M*A*S*H

ORT would like to thank all those people who supported the production of M*A*S*H. The show
was a great success in as much that there were a number of new cast and crew members at
ORT. This is what makes it so good when everybody gets together and creates a show and fin-
ished with fond memories of their time preparing and presenting the show.
We look forward to anybody that would like to try or “have a go”. Just contact anybody at ORT
for further information.

50th Anniversary
ORT will be celebrating 50 years of theatre in October 2011. This is an important milestone in
the performing arts in the region and many people over the years have contributed to the ongo-
ing success of the theatre.
We would like to ensure that everyone who has been involved in any way over the years has an
opportunity to participate. If you know of anyone who would like to be involved but may have
moved out of the area, please advise them that we would love to hear from them.
Dennise Brownlie and Brian Dent have presented a plan for the weekend and there have al-
ready been interest from “out of towners” about what is going to happen. More on this later!
Please contact a committee member for further information or contact the theatre.

DON’T FORGET

The working bees will continue on Saturday mornings from 9.00 am for about three hours. See
you all then, even for a cup of coffee. Next one is planned for April 30th.

We have an extensive wardrobe and the costumes are available for hire at attractive rates for
any occasion, please contact Frances Yardley on 431 8737, or contact a committee member.

There it sat, hissing, the grey fur now standing out in verti-
