that I write to you, the
Brevard Paralegal
Association Membership,
my first message as your
elected President. First, I
would like to express to
you that becoming the
President of this
association is my
privilege and my duty, not
National only to you but to the
paralegal profession also.

When thinking about
what I should write to you
in my first message, I
thought to myself, “I need
to let the Members know
who I am and where I
came from.”
eighteen (18) years old, I
was accepted into Law
University of Law, Rio de
Janeiro. At that age I found
graduation, I decided to
pursue a career working for
the Government. So, I
studied for four (4) more
years to become a Judge in
the area of Employment
Law.
At that time, I came to the
US for vacation and met my
husband. As you may
guess, I never returned.
I went back to school and
graduated from BCC’s
Paralegal Program in
December of 2008.
Since my first semester at
the Paralegal Program, I
have attended BPA’s
meetings. Through BPA,
great things happened in my
life. I have met great people
and some have become
great friends. I had the
opportunity to meet the
women that would become
my mentors, Penny Bell and
Roma Molinaro. Through
BPA I found my first job. I
remember when Patty
Wright one day told me that
someday I could be a great

but terrified. Now, here I
am serving you.
Again, thanks for the
opportunity to lead you.

Speaker’s Bio
Eric D. Olson is the
Academic Coordinator for
Legal Studies and an
Assistant Professor at
Barry University. He is a
member in good standing
of The Florida Bar and
practiced law for 11 years
before joining the
University in 1991 to
administer the Legal
Assistant Institute, a non-
credit program serving the
adult learner population of
Miami-Dade and Broward
Counties. In 1992, the
Legal Assistant Institute
was phased out and
replaced by a college
credit degree program in
Legal Studies. Mr. Olson
was instrumental in
designing the Legal
Studies degree programs
at Barry University and,
as the Academic
Coordinator for the
degree programs, serves
as a faculty member
teaching such Legal
Studies courses as
Contracts; Legal Writing;
Law and the Legal

System, Employment Law
Education

currently a member of the
NALA Certification Board
for Legal Assistants,

Second Harvest Food Bank. Second Harvest collects
more than one million pounds of food and thousands of
dollars each year through community food and fund
drives sponsored by individuals, corporations, clubs,
schools, and associations. Agencies served by
