PART II: TRANSIT ISSUES. Please limit your response for each question to
about 75 words.

1. Why are you running for the Salem Area Mass Transit District Board?
I have enjoyed serving on the Transit Board the last two years and I to be a
part of some positive steps for Transit.

2.What strengths or assets would you bring to serving on the transit board?

I support community involvement, transparency,

networking, and working the process. I enjoy listening to the different
perspectives of constituents and being able bring some of the ideas and
comments to our meetings.

3. What do you see as the strengths of the current transit board?

Increased public awareness

4. What do you see as the weaknesses of the current transit board?

I believe we should enhance transit resource to benefit the community, and

given the the current economic environment we could benefit from learning
about new options and strategies.

5.What do you see as your role on the transit board?

To help address issues surrounding transit policy, make sure that our
constituents have a voice, and take into what benefits transit as an
organization in decision making.

6. What changes would you like to make in the Salem Area Mass Transit
District?

I want to incorporate partners in the community such as:

Employers- To increase ridership and van pools
Travel Organizations- To promote Salem and Keizer and improve the experience
for visitors
Vendors - Looking to get group rates and discounts for everything from
employee benefits to bus parts
Technology - I have advocated for debit/credit card option to purchase bus
pass and it is being researched
Non-Profits – Checking to see if non-profits who benefit from transit, but
don't pay for transit can help to support transit. Similar to the monies we
get from the State in lieu of property taxes or the County helping with the
cost of Cherry Lift services.

I am working on setting up a Transit non-profit option. This is so Transit

can have programs similar to the City of Salem's voluntary program to give a
dollar on your water bill for support of people who need help paying their
water bills. I would like to see us create a program for people who don't
ride transit, but want to support riders with more than their taxes.

7. How well has the transit district handled the Courthouse Square
situation?

I think given all the unplanned disruptions, so far our staff has done a
great job of adjusting. The future will hold some crucial decisions and I
hope we can serve the taxpayers well with that process.

8. Would you support a local levy to finance additional transit operations?

Why?
As a voter YES! As a board member and Community Task Co-Chair, not without
researched data showing us that the community would be in favor of the levy.

9. What are the three most important issues you would address if elected to
the transit board?

A. (75 words): Taking full advantage of our transit revenue to provide

the best public transportation for the Salem-Keizer system.

B. (75 words): Resolving the Courthouse Square building issue without

asking the taxpayer to bail us out.

C. (75 words): As I stated before; developing our partnerships in the

community.

10. What publications do you regularly read to keep on the news and on
transit issues (magazines, journals, newspapers, Web sites, etc.)? We get a
number of publications from the Transit District with our memberships
including: Governing and Metro Magazine as well as updates and articles on
issues from the Oregon Transit Association, the American Public
Transportation Association, and the Statesman Journal
