issue: JOBS
1. question: What aspects of work do you think are imponrtant when you look for a job?

My answer: I think there are a lot of apects to look for a job. For instance I can’t imagine my
job with grumpy boss, who would always tell me off.
On the other hand the salary isn’t irrelevant. I know that when you are a beginner, you can’t
expect very high salaries, but I would not take a job if I didn’t have a good chance of
promotion.
I can’t imagine myself doing monotonous job, I like interesting situations, I need constant
challenge. I need variety and in my opinion it can be achieved through meeting a lot of people
through work.
I believe that helping people and good working conditions are important.

2. question: What job opportunities do fresh graduates have after leaving university?

My answer: It’s not too easy nowadays to find a good job as a commencing people. Beginners
are usually underpaid. I think in Hungary there are a lot of companies where beginners aren’t
appreciated and as my view employers don’t trust beginners. Everywhere people set up a high
requirements. Let me give you an example: 1-2 years work experience.

3. question: What do you think of privatisation?

My answer: The privatisation that is the selling of state-owned property to companies. My

country was indebted after the change of regime in 1989.
A lot of companies and factories were in trouble and foreign investors bought them.
There are a lot of different aspects/views about the privatisation. Some people are for it
others are against.

4. question: What are the pros and cons of having a lot of multinational companies in
Hungary?

My answer: I believe that multinational companies bring variety and a wide range of choice to
the life of the country, Without them we couldn’t develop. These companies also give a lot of
workplaces to unemployed people.
On the other hand the smaller companies can’t compete with multinational companies and
people who work there lose their jobs.
Multinational stores are open on Sundays, I think this is an advantage. If you forget anything,
you can buy it on Sunday.

5. question: Why is it difficult to start your own business?

My answer: I think it is difficult to start a business. Firstly you have to have some capital in
order to begin. If you don’t have money, you can turn to a bank for a loan. You have to pay
back it per month in detail. Secondly you have to have a lot of documents and permits to open
your own business.
7-8. question: What opportunities do you have in the EU? Are you allowed to take up a job
anywhere int he EU?

My answer: When we access to the EU, a lot of gates are opened. This accession was in 2004.
It has advantages. For example the free flow of work-force may be restricted between the
15 members. On the other hand, if we want to go on holiday to Greeceland, we can use our
identify card instead of our passport. Because of this situation the work-finder people can
travel abroad and search a newer and better job easier. As far as the consumer rights, there
become widespread. And as far as my student years are convinced, the responsibles of these
become accessible. For instance there are so-called Erasmus program in the higher education,
in the universities. Students can go abroad and learn foreign languages, because they learn the
core subjects in another language in these foreign country.

9-10. question: Would you like to work in Hungary or abroad? What are your future goals?

My answer: After graduation I would like to search a good job, that would satisfy my needs. I
know that a commencing people/students’ salary isn’ so high.
There are a lot of requirements for me to go abroad to work. For example perfect language-
knowledge, more self-confidence and I wouldn’t like to go alone. So I can imagine my future
job in another country, if I won’t find my ideal job in Hungary or if my salary won’t be
responsible. During my ideal job means that the circumstances are the best: good
athmosphere, I’m go on well with my collegues, I have free time for my family, my salary is
satisfying, my boss isn’t grumpy and he/she believe in me and my knowledge, my competence.

12-16. question: What do we mean by gross salary?

What is net salary?
Why is there so much difference between them?
What does the percentage of the income tax depend on?
What other deductions are made on your salary?

My answer: When you get money from your workplace or your boss, that is the net
salary/wage. It is less than the gross salary /wage. This amount is written at the top of the
salary slip.
The reasons of deduction are the income tax, the social security and superannuation
contributions- which is 10 % of your salary and unemployment contribution which is 1%.

18-19. question: Which are the best-paid jobs in today’s Hungary?

What is needed in order to get a well-paid job?

My answer: A lot of changes have happened in well-paid jobs int he past decades or last years.
Today’s Hungary wage-earners earn more than salary-earners, especially if they work in the
private sector.
The best well-paid jobs can be found in the area of white-collar workers. Lawyers,
businessmen, politicians, accountants, brookers and leaders of company earn a good amount of
money.
If you have an university degree, I think you are sure to find a good job. But nowadays it is
difficult as a commencing people. Nowadays there are a lot of people, who don’t find job and
they become unemployment people.
The requirements of companies and enterprises are higher and higher. Let me give you an
example 1 or 2 intermediate or advanced level of language-knowledge.
Disadvantage of this issue is family life. If you have a family and work in a good place, you can
find the balance between 2 things. In my view it’s not too complicate. There are a lot of au-
pair, and day care place, where your child or children are in safe. And as far as I’m convinced,
I’m sure I will make a timetable for my family. Therefore there won’t be lack in our family.
We will have a lot of time for our privacy, our lunch or dinner, our holidays, our child-
rearing.

20. question: Do you think people have enough money to put aside and save up?

My answer: I think there are people who have high bank accounts. Most people haver their
money on savings accounts as they get their salaries transferred right on the account.
People can demand debit card, by which they can pay in places where it is accepted. You can
also get cash from a teller machine using your debit card. Beside debit card, credit card also
exist, it becomes widespread nowadays. It means that you can spend more money that you
have on your responsible.
I don’t like it, because people become indebted easily.

24-27. question: How many unemployed are there in this country?

Which parts of Hungary are stricken by unemployment?
How do you think the unemployed feel?
What is the unemployment benefit enough for?

My answer: A lot of canges have happened in society in the past decades. Unemployment
people often become homeless, there are int he streets, under bridges and undergrounds.
Reasons for unemployments are found about financial situations. A lot of companies and
factories often go bankrupt and their mines exhausted lot of people people loose their job.
Because this situation a lot of people migrate another capital city or workplace.

30. question: What fringe benefits do you get from your company?

My answer: we have good welfare-services: we get subsidied meals, children in proverty can
use lunch vouchers. Day-care our children are looked after.

31. question: How many days of paid holiday do you get?

My answer: Most workers receive a little more than 3 weeks’ paid holiday. The amount depends
on the number of years they have spent working.
