Sports:-

What are sports? They basically consist of doing some physical activity that is
completely useless except for increasing strength and providing "fun." While I
consider the former to be the major (if not only) real value of sports, the
latter is, once thought about psychologically, quite sad.

As I said, sports increase strength (duh), and that was pretty much the
purpose of them to begin with (in conjunction w/ "fun," which I shall get to
later.) This actually has positive real-life side effects, like increased life-span,
being able to work longer, etc. I must emphasize that, since this is the only
real way to build strength (unless..I dunno...you take fun in lifting heavy
boxes and carrying them around to increase strength, still branching off of
weightlifting...), this is a very important aspect of sports. Unfortunately, it is
overshadowed by the many other aspects of sports that I shall proceed to
mention.

It's where the "fun" factor comes in that really disgusts me. I don't want to
sound preachy or anything, but I'm sure most people would agree with me in
saying Epicurus had human psychology more or less correct: that humans
seek pleasure and avoid pain. While this isn't entirely true, most painful
actions are done with a pl

Advertising:-
Advertising is defined as a paid, mass-mediated attempt to persuade.
Advertising can be done for a product, service, idea, person, or an
organization. One important factor to keep in mind is that no advertisement
contains one single message that all of the members of the audience will
interpret alike. Advertising is a part of the marketing mix, under promotion,
and is a very important aspect in Marketing (O’Guinn Ch. 1-2).

In today’s competitive market, only the product and service advertised can
be sold competitively for a fair price. Advertising is all around us. It is in
everything we do, whether it be looking up a number in the local phone
directory or taking a ride down an old road and noticing the billboards along
side of the road. For most Americans, not a single day will go by without
seeing some form of advertisement. Because of the increasing amounts of
advertising in the media, marketing and advertising professionals along with
other copy writers began to use a more creative twist on advertisements
sometimes being quite risqué, that has affected consumers both negatively
and positively.

There are many media outlets available to advertise, including broadcast and
print media, billboards/kiosks, magazines, local an

Advertising influences people’s behavior

in a negative way.

Do you agree or disagree?

Seeing advertisements on the television, billboards or hearing them on our
favorite radio stations has become whether we like it or not part of our daily
life. Being exposed to numerous advertisements do affect our behavior and
the way we interact with each other, therefore I think the most of us would
strongly agree with the above statement. We do live in a material world and
there’s not much we can do about it.

I agree that advertising has a detrimental effect to people’s behavior in many

ways.

We tend to follow our primary instincts and forget the real values in life. By
acting on our insecurity and self-consciousness advertising makes us more
inclined to products without which we could be quite happy. We covet and
envy our friends. We become greedy and never satisfy with what we have.
Advertising has created consumerism which affects our ability to
communicate with each other. Most people nowadays prefer sharing their
thoughts through electronic mail or latest cell phones than personal contacts.
We have definitely become more distant from one another and consumerism
is probably the main cause of this social alienation.

On the other hand, inasmuch advertising has a negative impact on our

personality it has a positive impact on economy. The less commercials we
see, the less amount of money we spend. For a large company and its
competitors, advertising has become the only way of introducing products to
the customers and for us sometimes it is the only way to learn about what
they sell. Once I have read in an advertising magazine a funny explanation as
to why people buy chicken eggs as opposed to say goose’s or duck’s? It is
because chicken advertises its product by: “cackle and cluck”. One of the
main indicators of a healthy and strong economy is the money flow or how
much money is spent, in other words how much money advertising has
succeeded to get out of our pockets. This results in low unemployment rate
and increase in our standards of living.

Despite the fact that advertising will be thriving on our weaknesses in the
years to come, we should try not to become slaves to material things and do
our best to retain core values which after all distinguish us as human beings.

Advertising is a way of getting a message across to a vast number of people.

Advertising is normally used to sell or promote a product. It is also used to
get a donation for specific charities. Adverts are now getting a bigger
audience than ever, the fact that so many channels now advertise as
opposed to a few years ago when only ITV advertised. As so many different
channels are advertising, advertiser ensure a target audience by televising
their adverts on the appropriate channel, one that is designed for their target
audience. For example there are a vast number of children’s channels these
days so children’s adverts will be shown on these channels more frequently
than any other as they are sure of reaching their target audience. One of the
most popular formats to advertise on is the television because it is the only
format in which you can have full motion with sound. This is obviously the
most effective way of getting a message across, it is also very popular
because it is so widely available. Nearly every house hold owns a TV and
even every work place. Another popular format of advertising is on large bill
boards. This costs less than advertising on TV however in a recent survey I
took people said that they are just as influenced by the billboards as they are
by television, some even prefer seeing the big pictures on a drive to the
office rather then sit at home and watch adverts on their TV. Advertisements
also show up on newspapers, magazines, radio and even on the sides of
some buses and taxis.

There are various different techniques used in advertising to appeal to

everyone. Colour is an important factor in every advert. The advertisers have
to make sure the colours used in an advert are appropriate for the theme of
the advert. The use of colour is not only to show something as being bright or
dark, they also need to think about what the connotation of the colour is. The
advertisers would never use the colour black in a summer children’s holiday
advert because black connotes fear, mystery and anxiety.
We can write a Custom Essay on Advertising for you!

A more appropriate colour would be blue which connotes freshness and

excitement and is more appealing to kids. Colours are also used in the advert
when the product is associated with a colour like ‘Nescafe Gold.’ In the
‘Nescafe Gold’ advert the background is gold and when you get to see the
coffee beans they too are gold. This makes people associate gold with
Nescafe. Gold also connotes wealth and high class so we subconsciously get
told that if we drink their product we will feel rich and high class. When
advertising vegetables adverts tell us to ‘eat our greens.’ This is because
most vegetables are green but that’s not all. Green is supposed to make
people think about the environment as the grass is green and the leaves on
the trees are also green. It makes us think we are doing something good by
eating vegetables. Often when vegetables are advertised we get shown a big
field with perfect green grass.

Another technique used to sell a product is representation. This is when

advertisers use one type of person to represents one type of people. With
representation it’s not what’s actually in the advert but what everyone and
everything symbolises. Normally they would use a tall beautiful blonde
female model to represent all the women because that is what society
considers beautiful. Like in the L’Oreal adverts they use famous celebrities
like Claudia Schiffer many women aspire to looking like that even though she
is far beyond the league of average women. They also use her for her perfect
hair to show that your hair could become like this when you know that it can’t
because she probably spends a fortune on her hair which most of us can’t
afford. They would use a handsome, tall, muscular male to represent all the
men in this world like when top footballer David Beckham is used to advertise
Police sunglasses. They are trying to tell us if we buy Police sunglasses we
will all look like David Beckham. Even though this is obviously false people
still go out and buy the celebrity advertised product, this encourages the
advertisers to use more and more representation. This technique does work
but it is very racist as you will hardly ever see a woman of ethnic origin
advertising a beauty product regardless of her beauty. Coloured people are
often put down in adverts due to the stereo types shown in the adverts.
Chinese people are all shown to be performing some kinds of martial arts in a
noodle advert and they also have really strong Chinese accents so that we
find it hilarious, a normal Chinese person living in England/America who can
talk perfect English will never be accepted for these adverts because
advertisers want to emphasise that the people are indeed foreign and even
have a small joke on their expense to make a memorable advert as people
remember amusing adverts rather than the dull ones. The advertisers in
return hope that this will help sell their products. However its not only
Chinese people that are stereo typed it’s also races like Indian and black
people. Indian people are always put in their Indian clothes and not the
expensive ones the cheap ones and they also seem to have peculiarly strong
accents, this makes people laugh and assume Indian people are all like this.
Jamaican people are also shown just relaxing (unemployed??) smoking
cannabis and talking in Jamaican slang. Disabled people are also not used in
adverts to promote any products, the only times I have seen them being used
is when a charity is advertising for donations.

Advertisers make effective use of language in many different ways to

promote and sell a product. The advertisers also try to confuse and impress
us into purchasing their product by using long scientific language. For
instance in a shampoo advert they might say something like ‘The PH level
and the vitamins provided by the nutrients and the shomicate working
together simultaneously to ensure you get your natural shine and it stays.’
Obviously the standard audience will not have the slightest clue as to what all
the words mean. However they will automatically think that if it’s made using
all those scientific sounding products it must work wonders for your hair. This
technique makes people think that we are being taken care of by the expert
scientists and it makes the people feel safe. Language is also used in the
other ways like in headlines to catch our attention. Exaggeration is also an
effective use of language. Exaggeration is often used by advertisers into
making people believe that their product ‘really works’ and is the ‘real deal’
or in some cases they tell us that ‘it a once in a lifetime opportunity.’ Another
effective use is with slogans. When we are shopping we think of the slogans
like ‘have a break, have a kit-kat’ or ‘marmite, you either love it or hate it.
Advertisers also use puns to attract people’s attention. These words with
double meaning usually have one meaning referring to the product and the
other is normally a humorous one to make us laugh. The chocolate ‘CHOMP’
has the slogan ‘it’s long, hard and guaranteed to satisfy.’ This slogan is
describing the chocolate in one meaning whilst using sexual innuendo and
describing a penis in the other meaning to make people laugh and remember
the product.

Some people say that physical exercise should be a required part of every
school day. Other people believe that students should spend the whole school
day on academic studies. Which opinion do you agree with? Use specific
reasons and details to support your answer.

With advancements in technology, physical exertion is no longer a daily

requirement from most people. Because of this fact, there is a controversy
concerning whether or not physical exercise should be a required part of
every school day. There is one side that believes that schools should
concentrate on only academics. However, I believe that exercise should be
mandatory because it keeps students healthy for studying and teaches
students important social skills that they will need later in life.

To begin with, physical exercise enables students to continue studying

because exercise promotes physical and emotional health. Sitting at a desk
doing schoolwork all day will eventually lead to a weak body, which leads to a
weak mind. When I was a high school student, I was under a lot of pressure to
get good grades, so I spent most of my days sitting and studying. After long
periods of inactivity, my physical condition started to weaken and I started to
catch colds easily. My school nurse recommended exercise to help
strengthen my immune system, so I started to spend an hour a day running
on a treadmill or swimming laps in the school swimming pool. Gradually, my
body became stronger, which allowed me to study more effectively.
Therefore, regular exercise in school can enhance physical health and allow
students to continue their studies better than before.

Additionally, social skills that will help students out later in life are secondary
lessons learned from physical education. Academic knowledge is essential for
success in the world today, but it is far from everything needed. Social skills
are also an important part of education. When students play team sports, like
baseball or soccer, they learn to develop a sense of responsibility and how to
cooperate with others. On a team, each player has a role to play in order to
win a game. If players do not take responsibility for their role and cooperate
with others, there is no hope that their team can win. These skills learned
from team sports will be needed later in life. Making a living in today’s
society requires us to be able to deal with people in various situations
throughout the day, so the social skills learned through physical activities are
helpful even outside the activity.

To sum up, physical exercise should be made a part of the daily school
curriculum because it is necessary for students to maintain the physical and
mental strength to study and to develop the social skills they will need later.
Even though academics are the primary duty of students, emphasizing only
academics will not produce people that are both physically and socially
healthy.

Free sample essay on Discrimination:

Amidst the seamless quilt of people in the food court, he stood out like a
stitch gone wrong – not only because of his jarringly bright lime green suit
which signified his job as a cleaner, but also because of his obvious Down’s
Syndrome – the way his eyes were placed too close together; the way his
hands trembled of their own accord as he picked up plates and stacked them
in his trolley. Yet, even as people gazed at him with critical, disgusted, and
almost austerely cruel eyes, he was polite with what little words he could use.
This happened a few days ago, when I was out in a food centre with my
friend. It is indeed disappointing to realise the lack of empathy there is in our
world, such that even if a disabled person had extremely pleasant
mannerisms, “normal” people would still look upon them with fake,
hypocritical pity, or worse, disgust. It is clear that such judgemental actions
taken against a physically different person are already commonplace, as one
often opens the newspaper to read of how AIDS-stricken patients are denied
jobs even though they have educational qualifications higher than of a person
without any illness or disability. The movie “I Am Sam” also depicted a
situation whereby a mentally retarded man is not given the right to raise his
child just because her intellect has surpassed his. This is unfair considering
how much he loves the child, and love should be enough to ensure the child’s
growth.

Even though this is just a movie, movies are often introspective reflections of
human nature, which plainly proves how rampant discrimination is in our
world today. One has also probably disliked someone else because she is fat,
or has indulged in racist jokes. All the above examples serve to emphasise
how discrimination, be it against people of another race, people of different
facial features, or people of different physical abilities, is very real in our
world today. Discrimination is defined as “the practice of treating one
particular group in society in an unfair way”, and probably stems from an
inborn human intolerance towards something unusual. A possible theory as to
why humans cannot tolerate difference is that they are too adverse to
change – since they develop a certain mentality after being put in the same
kind of environment, and become sheltered in a bubble of naivety. That
bubble is broken when they encounter something that does not tally with
their idea of what is normal. Then, they get resentful because their secure
bubble of naivety has been broken. Therefore, discrimination sets in. It is an
especially worrying problem for the world because discrimination may lead to
civil wars which would in turn cripple a country’s social and political stability.
This is proven in the fact that more harmonious countries such as Singapore
and Switzerland develop quickly while divided societies like that of Northern
Ireland and Indonesia are still very technologically backdated. Discrimination
would also cause an extreme violation of human rights. People would be too
busy labelling each other to realise they are not treating each other like
fellow human beings. Since discrimination is a result of deeply ingrained
prejudice, it is difficult to find an appropriate solution to this problem. Many
people have said that complete, flawless harmony in a society is an
unattainable ideal. However, there is hope for humanity to achieve this as all
over the world, there have been inspirational true stories of ordinary human
beings standing up and boldly fighting against discrimination. Nelson
Mandela, for example, was valiant in his fight against the unfair political
system of apartheid in Africa. Mother Teresa of Calcutta also fought against
stereotypes and associated herself with the social outcasts of India. Even
though she was prone to the human flaw of discrimination, she chose to fight
against it. A mother and a child also share a magnificent and unconditional
bond, in the sense that the mother will still love her child if her child goes to
jail. As such, discrimination can definitely be fought against. It goes to show
that there is that little spark of hope for humanity to be able to keep that
discrimination to a minimum. If we are willing, we can clamber out of the
abyss of discrimination that has undoubtedly blinded our eyes to the real
beauty of the world. Since humans have such a strong will to hate, they will
also have a tenacity to love wholeheartedly and unconditionally. Ultimately,
humans are creatures who yearn to love and be loved.

Discrimination
IELTS essay: Do married women usually work? Why and why not?

Personally, I believe that married women nowadays have right to take up jobs
like men when employment discrimination based on gender have been
erased significantly. Working outside home will bring a lot of benefits to both
married woman and their household. I will mention some basic reasons as
following.

Firstly, extra income that women earn will contribute to their family's
expenses. By taking up a job, a wife can earn more money to support her
family life. This is really necessary in cases of her husband's low salary and
the difficulty of getting a good job at the present. So, it is a normal practice
for women to be helpmates in earning money.
Secondly, working outside the house creates opportunities for married
women to contact with the outer world, strengthen their character and show
their capacity. These things in turn will make them more confident,
independent. These women will set a good example for their children.
Therefore, it is no doubt that they play roles as a mother and as a wife better.

Last but not least, nowadays, there are many supporting conditions that help
women balance housework and work. Besides the gorvernment's policies on
limited families and their husbands' sharing in the housework, many
employers are willing to offer part-time jobs for women.

In conclusion, a well-organized home does not need the housewife's presence

the whole day long and married women could go to work in order to enjoy the
working life outside the home.

Co-Education

The mixing of the sexes in education is natural preparation for the mixing
which will take place later. It was formerly prevalent in Scotland, is in vogue
in the United States of America, and has been adopted in several private and
most State-aided schools in this country.

The feminine mind gains from association with boys and men, the masculine
from association with girls and women. The character develops more rapidly
and shyness diminishes. Competition is greater between the sexes than
between rivals of the same sex, so that higher standards of achievement are
reached.

The presence of both sexes together is a wholesome factor in institutions. In

all communities where one sex is segregated, e.g., schools, colleges,
monasteries, convents, etc., it is more likely that various evils will flourish;
women tend to become hysterical, men to acquire unnatural vices, and the
whole atmosphere is morbid. In colleges and universities, the presence of
women raises the general tone both ethically and academically.

Marriages made after co-educational experience are best. If the man and
woman have known each other as fellow-students, a surer basis is given for
married life than that gained from purely social acquaintance. If they have

While it is claim that some parents choose to impose such abnormal
conditions on their children-the condition which they themselves wouldn't put
up with for one minute, others believe that children from segregated schools
have greater self-confidence when they leave school. This essay will analyze
some of the benefits for co-educational system.

First of all, any discussion about this topic must question the aims of
education. Pupils go to school to gain knowledge. Moreover, the cheif aim of
education is to equip future citizens for adult society. Now our society is
made up of men and women,so how can the segregated shools offer a right
sort of preparation for pupils?Anyone enter the real society after years of
segregation may only be in for a shock.

Secondly, boys and girls have been learning together because they have
given the opportunities to know each other. A co-educational school offer
children nothing less than a true version society. Students are able to
compare each other in academic and athletic abilities and many of the
extracurricular activities which are part of school life.

The further point is that co-educational schools encourage healthy attitudes

to life. Boys don't grow up believing that women are airy goddesses. Girls
also don't grow up imagining that men are romentic heroes in mythology or
in movies. A majority of psychologis ague that physical and emotional
adolescence best overcome in co-educational environment.Segregated
schools sometimes provide the right conditions for sexual deviation. This is
hardly possible in co-educational system.

In conclusion, I feel strongly that when the time comes for the pupils to leave
school, they are fully prepared to enter the real society as well-adjusted
adults. They have already had years of experience to solve problems that
they face men and women.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Boys and girls should
attend separate schools. Use specific reasons and examples to support your
answer.

I very strongly opine that boys and girls must study together in the same
school.

There need not be separate gender-specific schools. In this essay we shall

discuss

the benefits of coeducation system.

System of teaching boys and girls together is known as coeducation

system.The

main economic benefit is that separate real estate is not required. Nation
saves

by way of economizing on real estate, buildings, infrastructure, and

employment of

the teaching staff.

Second most important need to secure equality for women inindustrial,

professional, and political activities is met with and fulfilled. Mostof the very
old gender-specific colleges have become coeducational now.

Only a few historic women's schools and men's seminaries, remain. However
some communities oppose coeducation on basis of their religious and cultural
grounds.

Coeducation is good not simply on academic grounds but on sexual grounds

as well.

The gender–specific schools create an undue curiosity among students about

opposite sexes.

This leads to their indulgence in immature sex acts and some times

many crimes.

In my opinion the segregation of young men and women leads to an

undue preoccupation of students with sex that is a very big hurdle in their
way to

studies.

Nevertheless coeducation creates a more natural and healthier atmosphere

for studies.
Students should have the healthy, moral and intellectual cognition

with respect to sex and without any undue excitement about the novelty that

predominantly prevails in the system of isolation.

Coeducation, promises intellectual growth and sexual well-being.

Summing up, it is better to have coeducation instead of conventional old

system of

teaching boys and girls in separate gender-specific schools.

Can money buy happiness?

Essay topic: Can money buy

happiness?
The title of the old American movie 'Poor little rich girl' answers the question.
It is true that at weddings we often hear the newly-weds toasted in the words
Health, Wealth and Happiness, but the epithet itself distinguishes between
the three objectives. The fact is that you can be both happy and healthy and
poor, by normal standards, at the same time. Yet, if you are unhappy, money
can only cure your misery in some circumstances. And if you have an
incurable illness no amount of money can buy the treatment to reverse that
condition.

Most people would accept that the human being is a composite of body, mind
and spirit. Each of those parts has separate needs which must be fulfilled if
happiness is to result. This fulfillment is most often, though not always,
achieved through the love and companionship found in a good marriage. The
newly-weds referred to above may start out together with few possessions
and little money and still be blissfully happy. Body, mind and spirit are
fulfilled. Yet, marital happiness is not a static thing. As the couple grow older
they change, and happiness has to be constantly worked for if it is to mature
into lifelong love and friendship. Sadly enough the divorce rate in the west
shows that many couples lack that incentive, and are not prepared to show
the unselfishness and willingness to put the needs of each other first,
necessary if happiness is to last. Very often, this process of alienation goes
on at the very time when the couple are getting past their money problems,
when the pennies no longer have to be counted.

This situation is highlighted when money never has been a problem, as in the
case of some of the British royal family. Differences in outlook, i.e. in mind
and spirit, sever relationships most effectively. Whereas one royal, for
instance, was interested only in farming and country pursuits, the wife, some
years ago, decided to devote her life to 'Save the Children'. Money never
entered the equation. They are permanently separated. Mind and spirit had
grown apart..

Can money buy happines:-

Is there a relationship between happiness and economic success? If there is,
is it justifiable to jump into conclusion that money can buy happiness? The
statement may be true but first we have to question what do we mean by
'happiness', whether or not this refers to a state of fulfillment and
contentment. Happiness is a subjective feeling that differs from person to
person. The idea that happiness is related to economic success is quite
acceptable to some societies, yet completely out of the question for others.
It all depends on a person's cultural inclination.

Most people believe that money will provide them a life full of privileges and
luxury. Their aspirations increase along with income. After all the basic
needs are met, they aim for more spending power. They expend not only on
what they need but they also splurge on what they want. How much a
person earns in terms of monetary means also implies social class and status.
Thus, money gains himself respect and a sense of fulfillment.

Tell a Filipino that money is solely equated with material wealth, then most
likely you will receive a smirk. Most Filipinos hold the view that the pursuit of
happiness does not depend on money alone. Happiness is a positive feeling
brought about by different factors such as personal freedom, equality, health
and education. Religion also imposes a great influence on a Filipino's
indomitable spirit. It is his religiosity and innate ability to be happy that
enables him to comprehend and accept the rigors of daily life.

To be honest, I might acknowledge the fact that money can buy happiness,
but only to a certain extent. It does guarantee the basic necessities of life,
however it doesn't make us ultimately contented. Embracing liberty, having
the power to acquire knowledge, receiving equal opp
ortunity, and being healthy are just some of the things that most of us can
enjoy without even without the help of money.

Personal happiness is directly related with economic success, but it also relies
on several other factors. Happiness can be achieved through a positive
outlook in life and a decision to 00appreciate it.
