Fine Arc News ~ April 2011

CURRENT PROJECTS and ACTIVITIES

April came and went quickly, probably because it was another busy month at Fine Arc! Our
contributions to the art exhibit at The Stanley Theater received many compliments. Our exhibit
at the Utica Public Library was met with great interest as well. Joyce Astafan, Assistant to the
Director, requested that our exhibit remain at the library for a few extra days to add a special
touch to an upcoming social event.

Drum Circle entertained during La Vie Boheme Bistro’s reception in mid April.
We exhibited several works of art there as well, and the whole experience was very positive.

The Bell Choir went to Riverside Day Habilitation to practice once this month which gave others the
opportunity to enjoy the music we are pleased to share. We toured Riverside’s greenhouse while we
were there, as several of our members are very interested in flowers and design.

We will have an exhibit at the Oriskany Public Library in May. We actually have a full year of
exhibitions ahead of us, thanks to our involvement in Exceptional Artworks. We are preparing work
for the New York State exhibition in Oneonta this summer and are very excited to see where we stand
statewide.

Fine Arc extends thanks to Monique Poirier who came to Players and shared her karaoke skills
with our group. Other groups came by to join in and everyone had great fun.
We hope to have our own karaoke soon!

Gail Miskowiec’s nephew, Joshua Piejko, came to Fine Arc and gave a demonstration of animated
computer graphics The demo was met with a lot of enthusiasm. Thank you, Joshua!
Two Fine Arc artists graciously donated very nice pieces to the Friends of The Arc’s “Not So Silent”
Auction which took place at the Yahnundasis Golf Club on April 30th. The pieces included a beaded
necklace, handcrafted by Gladys, and a painting of a bird by Danny.

Improvisation on stage at Players Theatre is still a favorite activity. The theatre’s acoustics are great
for the quality of sound of our drumming. We have been asked to take the Drum Circle out into the
community for others to enjoy. The group relishes in the recognition they are getting, and it is rightly
deserve.

WHO’S DOING WHAT AT FINE ARC

Rachel experiences various media and is precise in her work.

She is always so delighted when others compliment her work.
Rachel keeps on impressing everyone with her origami pieces.

Paul has been working on more abstracts this month.

He is also drawing various pieces that relate to his interest
in his local fire department.

Joe is still working on his study of cats.

He seems to be drawn to the beautiful blue
eyes of the Siamese and Himalayan breeds.

Gladys also performed with the Drum Circle at the La Vie Boheme
Bistro. She has been concentrating on the taloned birds this month.
Her work has evolved since Fine Arc’s beginnings. Gladys enjoys
selecting subjects for her work and knows she can complete any
project that makes her happy.
We were glad that Scott returned to Fine Arc this month.
To our surprise, he returned with a play partly written!
Theatre participants are learning the play and hope to
share it with others in the future. Scott was very busy
completing some paintings in time for the upcoming exhibits.
He also performed with the Drum Circle at La Vie Boheme Bistro.

Quang’s drawings are always detailed and well thought out.

He does some painting, but seems to prefer the clean lines of drawing.
Quang also performed with the Drum Circle at La Vie Boheme Bistro.
He just enjoys showing off all his talents!

Yolanda enjoyed Karaoke this month with the rest of the

gang at Players. She is currently working on a miniature lodge.
Yolanda also did a painting of a tiger that will be included in
our exhibit in the Oriskany Public Library.

Matt is a new artist who joined us recently. This talented

young artist proved to himself that drawing things other than
comics isn’t as difficult as he feared. His style is reminiscent
of stained glass – precise and well done. Matt’s work
will soon be included in Fine Arc exhibits.

Dan always enjoys himself when he paints and draws. His work is
meticulous and takes on the effect of stained glass. Dan enjoys
participating in the Drum Circle at Players Theatre too.
