1 Overview

Installation Overview
The Fixed Wireless Terminal (FWT) has a built-in modem. Thus, you can browse Web
pages or download data through a universal serial bus (USB) cable.
The usage of the modem is as simple as a standard modem. Before accessing the Internet,
you need to install the driver from the delivered CD. A USB cable is delivered with the data
kit. If necessary, you can purchase a USB cable from a local dealer.
Note:
To connect a FWT with a PC, see "Connecting the FWT to a PC" of HUAWEI
Fixed Wireless Terminal User Guide.

PC Requirements
The configuration requirement of a PC is as follows:
1. CPU: Pentium 100 or above
2. Operating system (OS): Windows 98, Windows 2000 or Windows XP
3. USB: USB1.1 or above
4. Applications: Internet Explorer (IE) or a file transfer protocol (FTP) software is
installed

Installing PTCL Connect


This chapter introduces how to install the PTCL Connect management program (hereinafter
referred to as PTCL Connect) and the hardware driver. The procedures are for your
reference only.

Installing PTCL Connect


1. Use the USB cable to connect the FWT and a PC.
Note:
If the Win98 OS is in use, before installing the program, you need to disconnect
the FWT with the PC.
2. Put the installation disk into the CD-ROM.
3. The setup program automatically starts. Then, the installation interface appears.
Note:
If the setup program does not automatically start, find the setup.exe file and
double-click it to start the installation.
4. According to the instructions, click Next to proceed.
5. Read License Agreement carefully. Then select I accept the terms of the license
agreement and click Next.
6. Select an installation path and click Next.
Note:
If you do not select a path, the default path is used. You can click Change to
change the path.
7. In the Program Folder text box, enter the name. Then click Next.
8. If a prompt indicating that the software has not passed Windows Logo testing is
displayed, click Continue Anyway to proceed.
9. Click Finish to complete.

10. A short-cut icon appears on the PC desktop.

Note:
If the Win98 OS is in use, after the FWT manager program is installed, you need
to connect the FWT to the PC with the provided data cable.

Applying the Data Service


You can apply and enjoy such data services as Web browse and PC fax service. For
details, consult your service provider.

Configuring the Network Connection


Before accessing the Internet, you need to configure the network connection. If you want
to apply the default settings of PTCL Connect, you can skip operations in this section.

Creating a Profile
1. Use the USB cable to connect the FWT and a PC.

2. Double-click to access PTCL Connect.

3. Click Settings to access the configuration interface.

4. Click New to create a profile. Enter the profile name, number, username, and
password.

Modifying a Profile
1. In the home screen of PTCL Connect, click Settings to access the configuration
interface.
2. In the Choose Profile Name drop-down box, select a profile. Click Modify.
3. Modify the settings and click Save to save the result.

Deleting a Profile
1. In the home screen of PTCL Connect, click Settings to access the configuration
interface.
2. In the Choose Profile Name drop-down box, select a profile. Click Remove to
delete the profile.

Dialing Up
1. Click Settings to access the configuration interface.
2. Select a profile In the Choose Profile Name drop-down box or create a profile. Then
click OK.
3. Click Connect to dial up. After the login completes, you can access the Internet.

Caution:
y The Number, the Username, and the Password vary with networks. For details,
consult your service provider.
y The connection rate shown after the dial-up is connected may be the
connection rate of the serial port. For details, consult your service provider.

PC Fax Service
You can send or receive a fax. You can select PC fax software freely.
Note:
For the usage of PC fax software, see the description of particular software. This
guide only describes operations on the FWT to use the PC fax function.

Preparations
Before using the data service, do the following:
1. Install the modem driver on a PC.
2. Install the PC fax software on the PC.
3. Connect the USB port of the USB cable to a PC and the other side to the FWT.

Using the PC Fax Function


Before faxing, set the baud rate of the serial port to 19200 bit/s. For detailed steps, see 0.

Setting the baud rate

1. Enter the operation code ##43* through the phone connected
to the FWT (when you hear the dialing tone after picking up
the handset).
2. Set the baud rate of the serial port to 19200 bit/s.

Note:
y If you unplug the USB cable and plug it to the FWT again, the baud rate of
the FWT is restored to 230400 bit/s.
y The baud rate of the FWT must be the same as that of the PC fax software.
For detailed steps, see the instruction of particular software.

Sending/Receiving a PC Fax
Before the FWT receives or sends a PC fax, set the FWT to the fax mode. Then the FWT
stays in the fax mode until you power off it. To use the voice services, turn off the fax
mode. For detailed steps, see 0.

played, the FWT is set to the fax mode.
2. To exit the fax mode, enter the operation code ##30*
through the phone connected to the FWT (when you hear
the dialing tone after picking up the handset). You can
also restart the FWT to restore to the voice mode.
3. After the FWT sends or receives a PC fax, enter the
operation code ##90000* through the phone connected to
the FWT (when you hear the dialing tone after picking up
the handset to end the PC fax operation).

3 Precautions and
Troubleshooting

Precautions
y To access the Internet, you need to subscribe to the data service with your service
provider.
y The username and the password vary with networks. For details, consult your service
provider.
y While accessing the Internet, the line is in use. Thus, the voice service is unavailable.
Before making a phone call, you need to disconnect the dial-up connection.

Troubleshooting
At dial-up, a prompt indicates that the Modem does not respond.
1. Make sure that the FWT is powered on and the USB cable is well connected.
2. Make sure that the driver is properly installed.
3. Make sure that the baud rate of the Modem serial port is set to the default value
230400 bit/s. Then restart the FWT.

A prompt indicates that the dial-up cannot be created or the dial-up


is not connected to the server.
Make sure that the username and password are correct. If the problem still exits, contact
your service provider.

A prompt indicates that the server does not respond.


1. Make sure that the number is correct, such as, the access number of the high-speed
packet data service is "#777". For details, consult your service provider.
2. It is possible that the server is busy. Try later.
3. Confirm with your service provider that you have subscribed to the data service.

You cannot send or receive a PC fax.


1. Make sure that the USB cable is well connected.
2. Make sure that the data rate of both the PC fax software and the FWT is set to
19200 bit/s.
3. Make sure that the FWT is set to the fax mode. If you have any queries, consult your
service provider.
