Grid Inter-Connection Training in Bandung

As part of MHPP's efforts to support the small scale grid con-
nected renewable energy program (PSK Tersebar) introduced
in June 2002, a 4 day training course was held in Bandung
between 6 9th March to introduce the “Mainscon
Synchronisation, Protection & Inter-Connection” technology.
The Mainscon units are manufactured by GP Electronics, UK.
Two such units will be installed on MHP schemes in East Java
later this year as part of MHPP's inter-connection program. Mr
David Roberts from the UK based firm Dulas Ltd. conducted
the training where a full simulation of a typical installation was
carried out, introducing the various functions of the Mainscon
units. The system operates in combination with an electronic
load controller (ELC). All the necessary protection modules
for both “buyer” and “seller” are integrated with the synchro-
niser in one single compact unit.

Grid Inter-Connection Training in Bandung

In February MHPP conducted a three day training program
for PT. Chakra at the Dewata Tea Estate following the full
commissioning and operation of the MHP scheme. The
training was attended by 20 participants from the company
and covered issues including MHP plant operation, service
& maintenance and financial management of the scheme.

Similar systems have been successfully installed in a number

of projects in Sri Lanka and represent a relatively simple and
cost effective option for MHP schemes where flow control is
either too expensive or not considered essential. The training
was attended by 15 participants from Java, Sumatra and
Sulawesi. They represented private companies, NGO's and the
national utility PLN.

current focuses of P3MH in implementing its MHP
schemes is on encouraging productive end use amongst the
users. This is aimed at improving the financial viability of
schemes whilst stimulating economic development in the
respective villages. In the village of Tanjung Durian for

was built incorporating a rice milling unit driven via a direct Photo 4 (Left): Small scale agro processing such as coffee processing and
