BOOKMARKS
This data has been designed for use with bookmarks. Bookmarks are the left-hand column of
data, and they describe marked locations to which you may advance immediately by placing the
cursor on the bookmark and pressing the primary (usually left) mouse button. Bookmarks are
customarily named according to the location within the manual that may be accessed through
them. Examples are Chapter, Section, Figure, Table or Page numbers. Other bookmarks are
named by the paragraph title to which they are linked. Bookmarks may be grouped. Where a
plus sign exists there is a grouping, and the bookmark may be expanded to show more detail.
To expand the bookmark, place the cursor on the plus sign and press the primary mouse button.
D:\WPWIN\USER\TIPS1.DOC
CROSS-DOCUMENT LINKS
Links in the data are of several varieties. The red links are links to another portion of the same
document. The blue links are cross-document links or links to other documents. The green links
represent destinations of red or blue links.
Advantage can be obtained by deselecting the Open Cross-Document Links in the Same
Window. To deselect the Open Cross-Document Links in the Same Window access the pull-
down menu from within the Acrobat Reader
File -->
Preferences -->
General -->
Open Cross-Document Links in the Same Window.
Remove the x in the Open Cross-Document Links in the Same Window by clicking on the x. This
action will cause Cross-Document links to open in a separate window.
Click on the OK button at the bottom of the dialog box.
The advantage is obtained when you open a cross-document link to perform a task and wish to
return to the point at which you selected the last cross-document link. Once you have completed
the task, you may close the window by selecting
File -->
Close
This action will close the current window and display the window from which you launched the
cross-document link. Blue links are the cross-document links.

FIND
In using the IPC, the Find command can be of use once you have located a component in the
pictorial section of the figure and wish to access the index number and associated data. Search
would look to the entire document or document set and the index number will be repeated many,
many times. The Find command will begin its search at your current location in the current book
only.
If the index number is a single character, use page forward to reach the first page of parts listing
rather than the Find command. Single characters appear so many times as to make a Find
command very time consuming.
If the index number is two or more characters, select
Tools -->
Find
input the characters
and select the Match Whole Word Only box.
Once you have used the Find command, additional use of the Find command will begin
examining the document at the end point of the previous Find command.
The start location for the Find command can be reset to the current viewing location by closing
and reopening the file. This is accomplished by selecting:
File
Close
Then reopening the file using:
View
Go Back
This reopening of the file to the last location shown, resets the Find command to the location
being currently displayed.

COPY AND PASTE FOR GRAPHICS
The Select Graphics function, copies graphic data at the resolution being shown on the monitor
at the time the copy is made.
If using a 1024 by 768, 17-inch monitor, to effectively cut and paste graphics from the Adobe
PDF file into a Word or other document,
select the graphic area to be copied
Tools -->
Select Graphics -->
zoom to 350 to 400%
View -->
Zoom to ... -->
then copy to the clipboard
Edit -->
Copy -->
The graphic is now in the clipboard at about 250 to 300 dots per inch. Open the application into
which the graphic is to be pasted and use the Paste function in that application.

PRINT SET-UP AND PRINT DRIVERS
Printing Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files (the files on CDROM) requires Postscript
printers using Postscript drivers. Even though your printer is a Postscript printer, it may not be
configured to print using the Postscript driver. The principal problem exhibited is the “blob” or
“blobs.” In this case, large black spots may be printed on the page or in lieu of the desired page.
Click here to see an example of the “blobs”. If the “blob” or “blobs” appear when you print a page,
please reconfigure you printer to use the Postscript driver.

KNOWN PROBLEMS
Note
On the example page which follows, the link hotspots shown are inoperative. It
is not intended for these links to be valid in this context.
PROBLEM 1
In the fault isolation manual troubleshooting diagrams, some link hotspots are
misaligned with their associated data. The horizontal placement of some red or blue
link hotspots was made to the left or right of the data. While the hotspot does not
surround the text, it does link to the appropriate location.
(Click here to see an example.) The link hotspot for the ‘‘(figure 2-9)’’ reference in box
265 is actually located in box 261.
This problem has been reported to the manufacturer of the automated linking software
for resolution. It is not known when this problem can be resolved.
PROBLEM 2
Note
Problem 2 does not occur on the Portable Maintenance Aid (PMA) or Ground
Maintenance System (GMS). Problem 2 does not occur if the data is printed
from the files on CD-ROM.
On some office personal computers, at certain resolutions and with certain video
drivers, some graphic symbols (especially the minus sign) may not appear when the
page is displayed. At some magnifications, the symbol may appear. At other
magnifications either larger or smaller it may disappear.
(Click here to see an example.) The minus sign should appear in step 8 at the end of
the sentence as follows: "...toggle switch (4) to -." An increase or decrease of
magnification (zoom level) may be required to display the minus sign. If the minus sign
can be seen at all magnifications, then this problem does not occur on your personal
computer. This problem is being investigated.
PROBLEM 3
In the Illustrated Parts Catalogue (IPC) where the "DESCRIPTION" column contains
line breaks with the word “FIG.” on one line and the number of the figure on the
succeeding line, an error may occur. Where there is a number in the adjacent column
“UNITS PER ASSY”, the software generates an inappropriate link to the figure number
corresponding to the value in the “UNITS PER ASSY”. The box surrounding the word
“FIG.” may be incorrect. A link is also generally generated for the figure number shown
on the subsequent line. The link around the number on the subsequent line is correct.
(Click here to see an example of this problem.) Attempts have been made to correct
this problem by hand. A revision to software to preclude this line break is being
investigated.
