The reason for Judgment-

Every individual will have the opportunity to show why he acted as he did and to know the reasons for
his sentence. Abraham knew that God would do what is right when he was pleading with God for
Sodom and Gomorrah. In order for God to do what is right the final judgments are necessary.

Genesis 18:25 “Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so
that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what
is just?"

Discussion: What other Biblical evidence do we have that God is just in His dealings with man?

The Apostle Paul said, “On that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by
Christ Jesus” (Romans 2:16). What did he also say in 2 Corinthians 5:10?

It has been said that the only two things in life that are certain our death and taxes. The author of
Hebrews says that the two certain things are death and judgment.

“And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment”
Hebrews 9:27

Discussion: Acts 17:31

Paul used the resurrection to prove the validity of the coming judgment. In what ways does the
resurrection prove that there will be a judgment?

1. The resurrection confirms that ______________ is not the __________________.

2. The resurrection confirms the _____________ of _________________________.
3. The resurrection confirms that God has made Christ the ____________________.

The Judge
Christ is the Judge!

2 Tiimothy 4:1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and
the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:

Act 10:42 And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by
God to be judge of the living and the dead.

John 5:22, John 5:27, Acts 17:31

Christ is the Judge because he alone is qualified for the task. As God he has the_____________
necessary to be just and fair. As man, he understand and sympathizes with us, being tempted in every
way that we are tempted. In Christ is where _____________ and ________________come together.

Discussion- Give some evidence that confirms Christ will be a fair judge of all humanity.

The Judgment of Believers

Believers will be judged for their works. This judgment is not to see whether or not we make it into
heaven. Our salvation is by faith alone. Eternal life in heaven is not a reward for our good works. It is
an inheritance for those who belong to the family of God.

In Ephesians 2:10 the Apostle Paul says that we were created to do ___________ ______________,
which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Christ did not save us just to sit and do nothing.

We have ________________ (Matthew 25:14-30).

We have ________________ (Galatians 6:10, Matthew 20:1-16).

We will be judged on how well we used both our ________________ and ______________________.

The believers eternal salvation will not be at stake during his/her judgment, this judgment will examine
the good works that were done and the motivation behind them. The Bible teaches it is possible for a
Christian's ____________ to be burned up on judgment day and the individual still be
______________ (1 Corinthians 3:15).
Discussion- What should be our attitude and response towards others within the family God when we
know they have the wrong motivation for doing good works?

“Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. The later do it out of
love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former proclaim Christ out of
rivalry, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. What then? Only that in every way,
whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice.”
Philippians 1:15-18
