WASTE, WATER, ENERGY. DEALING WITH THE ENVIRONMENT.
Concept The initiative is aimed at selecting the best technical-scientific solutions adopted for water resource
use, for the valuation of renewable sources, energetic efficiency and waste management at local
level. The meeting’s aim is to coordinate the DIFFUSION, DIALOGUE, CONFRONTATION AND
TRANSFERABILITY of these experiences.

MOSAICS OF CULTURE: MAKING NEW VISIONS FOR EUROPE

RAVENNA TOWARDS CANDIDATURE AS EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2019

Ravenna and the cities of Romagna that support its candidature represent a single regional organism
with its own experience which sets an example for a operative approach to the creation of new cultural
projects at the European level. In the past Ravenna has produced artistic visions that have become
milestones in the history of Europe and Ravenna now aims to create new visions for Europe through
the metaphor of Mosaics of Culture. Strengthened by a glorious past and a civic tradition which has
its roots in one of the highest social capitals in Europe, Ravenna's ambition is to stimulate a new balance
in the rapport between ancient and contemporary through the Ravenna 2019 project, sketching out
an identity profile in which the past is reinterpreted in an innovative way, without nostalgia or a purely
conservative heritage, but as a historical base and source of inspiration for the future.

16 LabMeetings and to the 12 workshops, developed together with major
national organizations and local administrations in the field of waste, water
and energy. Besides the exhibition of technologies in Piazza del Popolo, great
success has been obtained by the International Exhibition on Contemporary
Art centred on themes attaining to the event. The artists, of international
fame, come from different cultural backgrounds and from different geographical
areas. Each has given voice to the theme of environmental sustainability, each
through his/her culture, tradition and sensibility ranging from video art to
photography and from painting to installations..

Introduced by a Press conference in the presence of geologist and anchorman, Mr.
Mario Tozzi, in the course of the three day event, participants have been able to
focus their attention on various issues, thanks to the 5 Conferences (among which,
the meeting with the Italian father of sustainable planning Sergio Los), to the 16
workshops and to the 20 LabMeetings. Citizens have been able to enter in contact
with avant-guard experiences thanks to the exhibition organized together with
Agenda 21 Locale in the renowned Piazza del Popolo, attracting thousands of
visitors and scholars. Besides the technical-scientific events, there has been great
interest in the International Exhibition of Contemporary Art inaugurated by
Patrizio Roversi. The exhibition has involved citizens in a PUBLIC ART session.

Powered by the international prestige of the speakers, the
richness and completeness of the program (4 Conferences,
27 Workshops, 16 Labmeeting, 8 cultural events) and the
traditional reception capacity of Ravenna, historical and
architectural jewel but also attractive tourist attraction,
the presence of operators and experts in 12 rooms that
have hosted the technical and scientific initiatives has
exceeded 2,000 units, coming from all over Italy, while
demonstrations and cultural events involving all the citizens
and tourists. The web broadcast (streaming-video mode)
of the main conference, allowed to reach for the first time
workers unable to come to Ravenna, recording peak of
1,500 hits per event.
