Intent

To develop new guidelines that:

• Address the global shortage of pilots meeting current OGP

experience and qualification requirements.
• Maintain equivalent or improved safety standards for OGP
operations.
• Can be applied globally.
AMG Guidelines
Existing qualification and experience requirements remain extant, but:
Dispensation may be given from multi crew aircraft pilot experience, when
the operator has an approved competency based training management
system and subject to following conditions:
• Establishment of a formal modular competency based progression scheme for pilots
from basic (ab-initio/new-hire/conversion) to command and for aircraft type
conversion.
• Include elements for role specific training (i.e. offshore, vertical reference, etc) at
Commercial Pilot License (CPL) training.
• An “In depth” audit of the operator’s training system by the Aviation Advisor to
include as a minimum the following:
Content of the training syllabus based on the best practices from both the JAA and FAA training
schemes.
Examination of training records
Base and Line training staff with defined competencies who themselves are regularly checked

AMG Guidelines
Entry level will normally be at the ab-initio level, but can be at
CPL provided:
• Aptitude testing is completed in accordance with Appendix 5B, Stage 1.
• Full training records are held for the CPL training including records of
stage and final check flights and total hours are validated by the training
provider.
• The training provider has been assessed and approved by the Helicopter
Operator’s QA or Training organisation and the following factors taken into
account:
● Instructor experience and oversight.
● Instructor competency check process.
● The content of the CPL training (ground and flight), which should
include an element of role specific training dependant on the type of
flying to be performed (i.e. Offshore, vertical reference).
AMG Guidelines – Type experience

• When a new aircraft type is introduced, it may be

necessary to reduce the total time on type experience
requirements (100hr PIC, 50hr co-pilot).
• This will be considered on a case by case basis on
approval of an operators type conversion scheme
based on the following requirements:

Microsoft Word
Document
Summary

• Greater flexibility in meeting both operator and OGP

customer requirements.
• Improved standards and standardisation of pilot
training.
• Rewarding investment in training.
• To be issued this week as interim guidance.
