A Summer that Sizzles!

fire for the Lord? In order to answer this
question, you must have an idea of what the
phrase “on fire” means to you. Have you ever
thought about what it really means to be on
fire for God? Of course, we are not talking
about literal, physical fire. In general, when we
say that someone is “on fire,” we mean that he
is excited or really serious about something. I

Sharpen Your Sword - If you want to have a
summer that sizzles, the place to start is by
spending time in God’s Word.
Spend Time in Supplication - So, you have more
time in the summer. Great! Schedule your prayer
time, create a prayer list, and develop a walk
with God. Summer time gives you an excellent
opportunity to get your prayer life on track.

think that may be what the Apostle Paul was
speaking of in Romans 12:11 as he gave
instruction as to how we should live as
Christians: “Not slothful in business; fervent in
spirit; serving the Lord.” Fervent means “hot,
glowing; displaying intense emotion.” I believe
that Paul is saying that we need to be “on fire”
for God.
With summer just a few days away, we think of
rising temperatures outdoors, time off school,
family vacation, and a host of other things that
go along with the heat of summer. Will you
have a spiritually hot summer? Could you make
a prediction as to how fervent you will be for
the Lord by the time August 31 rolls around?
We have no control of the weather. That is in
God’s hands. However, God has placed our
spirituality directly in our hands, and we can do
several things to make sure our spiritual
temperature stays on the rise.
Spread the News of Salvation - Some of your
extra time can be spent in telling others about
Christ, and what He has done for you. This is
when you will really begin to experience the
“sizzle.” There is nothing quite like seeing people
get saved.
Serve the Saviour - God’s institution on this
earth right now is the local, New Testament
church. If you want to be on fire for God, take
some time every week to involve yourself in the
work of the ministry by helping out around your
church. Look around for jobs that need to be
done and volunteer.
We don’t know if this will be a hot summer as far
as the outside temperature goes, but it can
certainly be sizzling for you spiritually. How?
Sharpen your sword, spend time in supplication,
spread the news of salvation, and serve the
Saviour!

Where Will I Spend Eternity?

Your relationship to Jesus Christ is central to the answer to that question.
We are, by nature, sinners who stand guilty and condemned before our Creator and
Judge. In our thoughts and actions, we have disobeyed His perfect standards. We
are sinners (Romans 3:10, 23).
We are helpless to save ourselves. Forgiveness is a gift to be received, not a reward
that can be earned. We need a Saviour (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Because of His love for us, God provided salvation through His Son, Jesus. He
became a member of the human family, lived without sin, and died on the cross to
pay for our sins. Jesus is the Saviour (Romans 5:8; John 3:16).
Salvation is an individual matter and requires a personal response on the part of
anyone that wants to be saved. All who acknowledge their sin and place their trust
in Christ are adopted as God’s children (Romans 10:9, 13).
