STATEMENT OF FACTS

On Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at approximately 11:06 am, a black male, later
identified as Jerome Thomas, walked into the SunTrust Bank located at 1100 G Street
N.W., Washington, D.C. Thomas approached a bank teller and stated, “I have a gun in
my bag . . . Give me hundreds and fifties.” The teller pressed the bank’s silent alarm
button. Thomas told the teller to stop pressing the alarm. Thomas then placed his hand
inside of a green nylon bag he had in his possession and stated, “Hurry up.” The teller
tried to alert another bank employee that she was being robbed by calling out the
employee’s name. Thomas repeated, “Hurry up.” The bank teller opened her drawer and
complied with Thomas’s demand by giving him $2,849.00 in U.S. currency belonging to
SunTrust Bank. SunTrust Bank is insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
(FDIC).

Prior to March 16, 2011, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force (which is comprised
of members of the FBI and the Metropolitan Police Department), received an anonymous
tip identifying Jerome Thomas as a possible suspect in similar bank robberies which
occurred in Washington, D.C. between November 2009 and January 2011. SunTrust
Bank security personnel provided members of the Violent Crimes Task Force with
surveillance photos from the March 16, 2011 bank robbery. The robber’s face is clearly
visible in the surveillance photos. Several law enforcement personnel viewed the
surveillance photos and each thought the individual in the photos resembled Thomas.
The surveillance photos also showed that the robber was wearing a ring on his left index
finger, a black hooded sweatshirt, a black shirt with a grey emblem on the front, and a
black knit hat.

The surveillance photos from the March 16, 2011 SunTrust bank robbery were
also shown to two individuals, each of whom has known Jerome Thomas for over one
year, and each of whom has had repeated contact with Jerome Thomas. Both individuals
identified the person in the March 16, 2011 bank robbery surveillance photographs as
Jerome Thomas.

Shortly after the robbery, members of the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force
responded to Jerome Thomas’s address at 3429 5th Street S.E., Apartment #44,
Washington, D.C. to conduct surveillance at that location.

Approximately 7:00 p.m. on March 16, 2011, Jerome Thomas arrived at the
parking lot of his residence wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a black shirt with a grey
emblem on the front, and a black knit hat. Thomas was also wearing a ring on his left
index finger similar to the ring seen in the March 16, 2011 bank robbery. In Thomas’
possession was approximately $1,891 in United States currency.
