Dress    (bodice)  
1. Tack  all  darts  in  all  panels  together  
 
2. Machine  stitch  seams  &  neaten  (Stretch  stitch,  length  0.5,  mock  French)  
3. Press  seams  
 
4. Tack  RHS  CF  side  seam  together  
 
5. Machine  side  seam  and  neaten  (mock  French  and  press)  
 
6. Attach  pleat  detail  to  bodice  (waistband)  
-­‐ Tack  to  bodice  2cm  away  from  waistline  
-­‐ Machine  then  neaten  (stretch  stitch,  mock  French)  
-­‐ Press  this  seam  completely  flat  
 
7. Tack  other  bodice  side  seam  together  (make  sure  pleats  are  meeting  at  
seam  correctly-­‐  waistband)  
 
8. Machine  seams  (stretch  stitch)  and  neaten  (mock  French)  
9. Tack  shoulder  seam  
 
10. Machine  stitch  shoulder  seam  and  neaten  (stretch,  mock  French)  
 
11. Attach  pleat  detail  to    bodice  (neckline)  
-­‐ Tack  to  bodice  2cm  away  from  neckline  
-­‐ Machine  then  neaten  (stretch  stitch,  mock  French)  
-­‐ Press  this  seam  completely  flat  
 

Facing  
12.  Tack  dart  lines  of  CB  and  CF  facing  panels    
 
13. Machine/  neaten  darts  (stretch,  mock  French)  
14. Tack  side  seams  of  facing  (both)  
 
15. Machine  side  seams    (both)  of  facing  and  neaten  (stretch,  mock  French)  
16. Tack  shoulder  seam  of  facing,  then  machine  stitch  and  neaten  (stretch,  
mock  French)  
 
17. Tack  facing  to  neckline  and  around  shoulder  (other  neckline  pleat  detail  
seam  included)  
 18. Machine  along  tack  lines  and  neaten  (stretch,  mock  French)  
 
19. Press  Neckline  and  facing  FLAT  
 
20. Slip  stitch  facing  hem  (hand  roll  slip  stitch)  

Dress  Cont.  (Skirt  &  overlay)  

21. Tack  one  side  seam  of  dress  skirt  
 
22. Machine  stitch  side  seam  of  dress  skirt  (stretch  stitch)  and  neaten  (mock  
French)  
 
23. Tack/  prepare  one  side  seam  of  skirt  overlay  for  French  seam  (SEPARATE  
TO  DRESS)  
-­‐ Machine  one  side  seam  of  skirt  overlay  (French  seam)    (GREEN  
THREAD)  

 
FRENCH  SEAM  INSTRUCTIONS  
1. Machine  stitch  1cm  away  from  the  SEAMLINE  (the  pinned  line)  
2. Unpin  the  SEAMLINE  for  pressing  
3. Press  this  seam(  1cm  machine  stitched  seam)  OPEN    
4. fold  skirt  material  over  so  the  RIGHT  SIDES  are  facing  each  other  
5. Tack  near  the  SEAMLINE  to  prevent  fabric  slipping  when  machining  
6. Press  folded/pinned  fold  line  
7. Machine  stitch  along  SEAMLINE  (marked  out  with  dots)  
8. Press  seam  to  one  side  
 
 
24.  Tack  gathered  overlay  onto  dress  skirt  ensuring  side  seam  of  overlay  
skirt  meets  side  seam  of  dress  skirt  and  gathers  are  distributed  evenly.  
 
25. Machine  stitch  along  (just  above)  tack  line  (stretch  stitch)  DO  NOT  
NEATEN  YET!  
 
26. Tack  other  side  seam  of  dress  skirt  
 
27. Machine  stitch  side  seam  of  dress  skirt  (stretch  sitch)  and  neaten  (mock

28. Tack/  prepare  other  side  seam  of  overlay  for  French  seam  
-­‐ Machine  stitch  other  side  seam  of  skirt  overlay  (French  seam)  (GREEN

34. Hem  overlay  (hand  roll/  slip  stitch/  bias  binding?)  (GREEN  THREAD)  
 
35. FINAL  PRESS
