PATROL UPDATE IMPORTANT DATES: SPRING TESTING DATES

The Orange team has finished patrol
duties for the year! Fourth grade patrols
will be taking over duties next week
while we are at camp. The black team
will take over duties on May 23. Patrols
attended the Patrol Picnic on Tuesday
and had a lot of fun! Permission slips
and payment for the ValleyFair trip on
June 1st should be returned by May 27.

Fifth graders are very close to being
done with testing this spring.
Students have done a fantastic job
so far. We have one more test to
take after we return from camp. We
are confident that students will do
well!!

 ROOM 115 – CLASS NEWS
WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
In math this week, we did a few lessons
from Unit 9 which focused on multiplying
fractions. Students practiced multiplying fractions
using division and other strategies. We will
continue with some of this unit after we return
from camp.
We also continued with our IB Unit of
Inquiry titled Environments. The central idea of
this planner is that all living things depend on the
conditions in their environment. This week
students conducted individual inquiry into various
environments. We shared what we learned with
classmates today. The summative assessment for
this planner was introduced and students will
begin this after we return from camp.
We also continued with our final book
club of the year. Our class is reading the book
Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. This adventurous book
about outdoor survival fits right in with our
Environments planner. Please note that there
may be some days where students have
homework for this book club.
This week in DARE, Officer Just reviewed
how to make good choices. Students read about
different situations involving peer pressure and
discussed ways to handle them. Our class enjoyed
trying on the “Fatal Vision Goggles”. After camp,
Officer Just will explain the DARE Essay that each
student will have to write before the end of the
year.
Next week, we will spend most of our
week at camp! Have a great weekend! See you
bright and early on Monday morning (by 8:15am).

5th GRADE GRADUATION
Wednesday, June 9th, 6:00pm
We are looking forward to this
celebration and hope that all fifth graders
are able to attend. The entire celebration
will be approximately one hour long.
Please let your child’s teacher know if
your son or daughter is unable to attend
this event.
We also encourage you and your family to
attend Portfolio night before graduation.
Having fun at the Patrol Picnic! 
Please stop by your child’s classroom
anytime between 5:00 and 5:45pm.
During this time, your child will share
some of the great work he/she has
accomplished this year.
CAMP IS ON MONDAY!!
We are really looking forward to camp
next week! Please remember to be to
school on time (no later than 8:15am)
and pack a bag lunch to bring with you
on the bus!!
