Genesis 9:1-13

A reading from the book of Genesis:

God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them: Be fertile
and multiply and fill the earth. Dread fear of you shall come
upon all the animals of the earth and all the birds of the air,
upon all the creatures that move about on the ground, and
all the fishes of the sea; into your power they are delivered.
Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them
all to you as I did the green plants. Only flesh with its
lifeblood still in it you shall not eat. For your own lifeblood,
too, I will demand an accounting; from every animal I will
demand it, and from one man in regard to his fellow man I
will demand an accounting for human life.

If any one sheds blood of man, by man shall his blood be

shed; for in the image of God has man been made.

GOSPEL READING (Mark 8:27-33)

Jesus and his disciples set out for the villages of
Caesarea Philippi. Along the way he asked his disciples,
“Who do people say that I am?” They said in reply, “John the
Baptist, others Elijah, still others one of the prophets.”
And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter said to him in reply, “You are the Christ.”
Then he warned them not to tell anyone about him.
He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer
greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and
the scribed, and be killed, and rise after three days. He
spoke this openly.
Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
At this he turned around and, looking at his disciples,
rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan. You are
thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.”

Lord, remember Your church throughout the world;
make us grow in love together with Benedict XIV,
our pope, Jose Palma, our archbishop, and all the
clergy. Remember our brothers and sisters who
have gone to their rest, in the hope of rising again;
bring them and all the departed into the light of Your
presence.
Have mercy on us all; make us worthy to share
eternal life with Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, with
the apostles and with all the saints who have done
Your will throughout the ages. May we praise You in
union with them, and give You glory through Your
son Jesus Christ.
Through Him, with Him and in Him, in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is Yours, Almighty
Father, forever and ever.

Celebrant: Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles: “I leave

sins, but on the faith of Your Church and grant us

Celebrant: Dear nurses and future nurses, as you celebrate
your “Nursing Days”, may the spirit of camaraderie
and oneness prevail among yourselves. As we offer
each other the sign of peace, let us promise to be

Celebrant: Lord, You are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Let
Your Spirit come upon these gifts to make them holy, so that
they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord

Before He was given up to death, a death He freely
accepted, He took bread and gave You thanks. He broke the
bread, gave it to His disciples and said; take this all of you
and eat it, this is my body, which will be given up for you.
When supper was ended, He took the cup. Again He gave
thanks and praise, gave the cup to His disciples and said:
“Take this all of you and drink from it; this is the cup of my
blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will
be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do
this in memory of me.
Let us proclaim the mystery of faith.

Celebrant: In memory of His death and resurrection, we offer You
Father this life-giving bread and this saving cup. We thank
You for counting us worthy to stand in Your presence and

Holy Spirit.
PROFESSION OF FAITH
All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of
heaven and of earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His
only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power
of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died
and was buried. He descended into the dead. On the
third day, He rose again. He ascended into heaven
and seated at the right hand of the Father. He will
come again to judge the living and the dead. I
believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL
Celebrant: Our Father, we stand here before you, offering to
you the wisdom we gained from our past, the fruits
of our success in the present, and our sincerest
hopes and dreams for our future. We offer to you
Lord our utmost gratitude for all the blessings that
we have received. May You hear the longing of our
hearts and imbue us with enduring strength to
continue living life in your grace as we say, “Merciful
and Loving Father, hear our prayers.”
