Siemens LOGO! Manual ASE 00 228 104-01
Siemens Software LOGO! Soft-Comfort V4.0
The LOGO! manual and the Help for LOGO! Soft-Comfort contain all the details
necessary for working with LOGO!. They therefore provide useful advice for pro-
gramming and operating LOGO!.
Dangerous voltage!
Dont’t put your fingers or any object into the slot for
the program mudule. If the power supply is not con-
nected correctly, the plug for the program module
may be carrying the supply voltage.
Remedies:
Connect L1 to only one phase and N always to the neutral conductor. Connect the
inputs to the same phase as the power supply.
The slot for the program module must always be connected in operation. If you
don’t plug in a program module, connect the slot to the cover.

What is LOGO! ?
3 A universally applicable logic module for electrical
engineering.
LOGO! 5L
®
Legend ELABOTrainingsSysteme
Concrete advantages
3 Universal due to the integration of various components
such as surge relays, automatic stairway lighting control,
switch-off delay, etc.
3 A smaller distributor box may possible be used
(e.g. 1 LOGO! instead of 2 surge relays, 1 clock,
1 automatic stairway lighting control).
3 No rewiring is necessary for modifications.
3 The program can also be edited an a PC.

Connecting LOGO!
Note:
Different versions of LOGO! are available!
See the LOGO manual for information on these.
In all the following considerations we refer to the AC voltage
version with clock LOGO! 230 RC.
Power supply:
The mains voltage is connected at L1 an N.
Its value may be between 85 V and 253 V. The current con-
sumption is 20 mA at 240 V (equivalent to 1 kWh/week).
The unit has protective insulation.
Inputs:
The switching equipment or sensors are connected directly
to the inputs I1 ... I8.
At voltage values < 40 V AC LOGO! recognize the „open“
switch state, at values > 79 V AC the „closed“ switching
state.
Outputs:
The loads such as lamps, motors, contactors etc. can be
connected directly to the outputs Q1 ... Q4 providing the
switching current does not exceed 10 A on ohmic load (3 A
on inductive load).
the outputs are potential-isolated relay contacts.
The load is fused with a circuit breaker < 16 A, charakteristic
B16.

Important terms
Terminals:
Terminals are used to designate connections (inputs and
outputs in the program).
Terminals may also be whole circuit parts (blocks) or fixed
states.
Functions:
LOGO! has a number of permanently installed functions. A
distinction is made between:
- Basic functions
- Special functions
Basic functions are simple links such as AND.
Special functions are for example surge relays or clock.
Blocks:
Blocks are functions switched by terminals.
Every time a block is inserted in a program, LOGO! automa-
tically assigns a block number.
The connection of blocks is displayed in the program by
these block numbers.
The block number appears in the top right of the display.
LOGO! 9L
®
Legend ELABOTrainingsSysteme
Abbreviations used
AM with the analog module can be changed analog values over 2
analog inputs
B1 appears in the top right of the display or at the input of
another block
BN appears at the input of a block if a new block is to be insert
C this devices name stands by LOGO! for integrated clock
CM with the communication module the LOGO! can be wiring
with a bus system (e.g. AS interface)
Cnt the switching process are counted here
Co here it is selected whether this is an input or an output,
an unwired input or a defined state (high or low).
Dir Dir = 0: counting direction forwards
Dir = 1: counting direction backwards
En the clock generator is switched on and off with En
Fre evaluated frequency singals will be connected on the
inputs with this names
GF the basic functions can be selected here
hi an output is set permanently to high potential
Inv the output signal of the block will be inverted if the
input head for
Io an input is set permanently to low potential
No every clock has three cams, the switch on and switch
off points are set at No
P this input is not of set. Here you have to set prioritys, whether
a message in RUN mode has be confirmed.
Par setting of the internal counting value
R reset a special function (e.g. counter)
Ral all intern values are setting back
S set the selb-hold relay
SF the special functions can be selected here
T parameter in time setting (e.g. switch off delay)
Ta current value of a time is displayed during parameterization
Trg the delay time is started for exmaple at the trigger input
x unwired inputs must be occupied by „x“

AND:
The output of the AND only adopts state 1 when all three
inputs have state 1.
For AND applies: x = 1.
NAND:
The output of the NAND only has state 0 when all three
inputs have state 1.
For the NAND it applies: x = 1.
OR:
The output of the OR always adopts the 1 state when at
least one of the three inputs has state 1.
For OR it applies: X = 0.
NOR:
The output of the NOR only has state 1 when all three
inputs have state 0.
For the NOR it applies: x = 0.
NOT:
The output of the NOT adopts the 1 state when the input
has state 0 and vice versa.
For NOT it applies: X = 1.
LOGO! 11L1
®
Legend ELABOTrainingsSysteme
XOR:
The output of the XOR adopts the 1 state when the inputs
have different states.
For the XOR it applies: x = 0.
AND with flanks evaluation:
The output of the AND with flanks evaluation adopts the 1
state when all inputs have state 1 and inside previous cycle
at least one input had the condition 0. The output will be
stay of the 1 state for a cycle and must have the 0 state for
a cycle, before er adopts the 1 state again.
For the AND with flanks evaluation it applies: x = 1.
NAND with flanks evaluation:
The output of the NAND with flanks evaluation adopts the 1
state when all inputs have state 0 and inside previous cycle
at least one input had the condition 1. The output will be
stay of the 0 state for a cycle and must have the 1 state for
a cycle, before er adopts the 0 state again.
For the AND with flanks evaluation it applies: x = 1.

Switch on delay:
The output of switch on delay adopts after a special time.
Switch off delay:
The output of switch off delay is setting back after a special
time.
Switch on/off delay:
The output of siwtch on/off delay adopts after a special time
and is setting back after a special time.
Stored switch on delay:
The output of stored switch on delay adopts a special time
after a input impuls.
Wisp relay:
An input signal creats a output signal after a special time.
Flanks triggerd wisp relay:
An input signal creats a output signal after a special time.

Solution in LOGO!
The switch S1 is connected at terminal I1 of the LOGO!.
The switch S2 is connected at terminal I2 of the LOGO!.
Since only two inputs of the OR block are used, the third input
must be marked not used. The x at the input is used to do
this.
The output of the OR block controls the relay at the output
Q1. The consumer E1 is connected at the output Q1.

From the output to the input.
Rule 3:
When entering a circuit the following applies:
If the cursor is displayed as an underscore you can move the
cursor
- with the keys <, >, or v you move the cursor in the
v
circuit.
- with OK you change to Select terminal/block.
- with ESC you exit the circuit input.
If the cursor is displayed as a full block you should select a

Parameterizing LOGO!
Term:
Parameterizing can be understood as the setting of block
parameters.
Parameters can be set in the Programming mode and in the
Parameterization mode.
The user can change settings (such as delay times) in the
Parameterization mode without having to interrupt the run-
ning program.
RUN-Mode:
You can go to the Parameterization mode by pressing the
ESC key.
Parameterization menu:
The four menu items „Stop“ (stop switch program), „Set
Param“ (set parameters), „Set Clock“ (clock settings) and
„Prg Name“ (give a program name) are available in the para-
meterization menu.
Parameter display:
Parameters are marked by LOGO! by the block number (B9).
The display T = 60:00 s indicates that the delay time is set to
60 seconds.
The display Ta = 06:00 s shows the current value of the expi-
red time since the start of the delay time.
