Multiply Yourselves!

In 1945 a group of Scientists met in the desert of New Mexico to test the results of many
months of research. The first testing of an atomic bomb. It changed the world.
The principle of an atomic bomb is simple. Fast moving neutrons are used to cause
fission to occur within the bomb. As a neutron strikes the nucleus of a radioactive
substance such as uranium, it causes it to split, forming two new, different nuclei, and in
so doing to release three more neutrons. Each of these three neutrons now may strike a
new nucleus and repeat the process. As each nucleus splits, energy is released. A chain
reaction occurs, and the energy released takes the form of an explosion.
There is explosive power in multiplication!

The Principle of Multiplication

Multiplication is a foundational law of the Universe. Sheep, cattle, trees, flowers, or
bacteria-every growing thing operates on a principle of multiplication. Multiplication is
God’s way of doing things!

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply,
and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and
over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
In this verse we find the first command God gave man.

Reproduction is a sign of life, a sign of maturity.

All of God’s creation, when healthy and mature, reproduces.

Genesis 22:17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy
seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed
shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed
my voice. (Abraham)

Genesis 26:4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give
unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be
blessed; (Isaac)

Genesis 28:13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of
Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give
it, and to thy seed;
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west,
and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the
families of the earth be blessed. (Jacob)

Genesis 48:4 And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and
I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for
an everlasting possession. (Joseph)
There is a certain amount of cost involved in multiplication. Every parent knows that
reproduction is costly.

For a salmon, the cost of reproduction is death. Grain also dies to reproduce. Jesus said,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains
alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for
eternal life.” John 12:24-25
What was the cost to the atom in the atom bomb?
God wants the same principle at work in the physical realm applied in the spiritual realm.
The reason we have not reached the world with the gospel is that the world has been
multiplying while the Church has been adding. Addition can never keep up with
multiplying!

II Timothy 2:2 “ and what you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to
faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

Every Christian should ask themselves two questions: “ Who is my Paul?” “Where
is my Timothy?”

What kind of physical sicknesses can prevent reproduction?

What kind of spiritual “sickness” can prevent reproduction in the Church?

A body needs to be in good health to reproduce.

“Activity is no substitute for production, production is no substitute for

reproduction.”
