Human Hybrids

I started off with the concept of human

evolution and the diversity of mammals

Originally I looked at
theories of future
evolution such as H.G.
Wells’ The Time Machine
What would happen to humankind over
generations with the effects of changing
environment, species extinction or symbiosis
with technology?
What would happen if humans left Earth and
the effects of zero gravity, different
planetary environments or radiation
This led me to the research in human DNA
mutation of the jaw muscle, allowing us to
develop larger brain cases.
This muscle and bone mutation led me to think
about genetics and gene splicing of chicken
embryos to reincarnate dinosaurs.
As mammals all descend from a common
ancestor, we share a lot of information with
other mammals. We all have the same skeletal
and muscular structure, just arranged and
scaled differently
For my research I looked at both human and
animal bone and muscle structure, and the
transitional phases of human evolution from
apes. Such as in the Science Museum, Natural
History museum London and Museum of natural
History New York
What if we could gene splice our DNA with
that of other mammals, adopting and tailoring
features that make them well adapted to their
environments

What makes mammals

well adapted & how
would human hybrids
adopt the bone and
muscle structure,
how would they move
and to what purpose
would they have
them for?
This led me to think of the Olympic motto:
Citius, Altius, Fortius, translating as
faster, higher, stronger
Higher Faster Stronger

Arms Throwing/ Swim/Punch Gorilla
Climbing Lifting

Mountain Cheetah/
Legs Lion Horse
Jumping Running

Jaw/ Giraffe Lion/Hyena

Through further research I decided upon the
pronghorn antelope for faster, a gibbon for
higher and initially a bighorn sheep for
stronger.

*The bighorn sheep
would have been my
concept for stronger
thanks to its shock
absorbing skull
allowing it to walk
away from falling
from great heights.
However this
is more of a
survival
trait than
an athletic
trait

Dense

Trunk
The skeleton I altered and cleaned from a
base mesh, took parts into ZBrush and
textured, and made the whole thing a custom
CAT rig that could be altered, reused and
animated easily, I used Di-O-Matic's Hercules
for the muscle objects to have them react in
a subtle way to the motion, contracting and
relaxing. For the elephant hybrid I worked
also with CAT's muscle system due to the
native structure suiting a more trunk-like
appearance. For this I also used Bones Pro
and Metabones for more accurate skinning
deformations.
For the show I am planning to have life sized
vinyl prints of the 3 characters and 3D
printed models displayed in protective
casing. Alongside this I will have a screen
with the animations of the actions,
turntables, walk/run cycles along with the
research process behind the concept of the
project and the technical theory behind it.
