ABSTRACT

The world’s climate is changing at unprecedented rates affecting nearly every industry

globally. Climate plays an obvious role in tourist destination choice. The majority of tourists

spend their holidays lazing in the sun, a sun that should be pleasant but not too hot. Currently,

popular holiday destinations may become too hot as the global warming phenomenon become

worst and indirectly will give bad impacts to Marine Parks especially.

This paper discuss about the impact of a global warming towards tourism industry in

Malaysia especially towards the Marine Park focusing in Perhentian Island. The study reveals

that global warming is a major threat for attaining tourism sustainability in Malaysia as it

continuously changes and affects the industry in diversified ways. Therefore, good measurement

of its impacts is needed to ensure long run of the tourism industry is controllable. Decline in

water quality, sea-level rise, deterioration of coastal resources and habitats and increasing ocean

acidification are the impacts of particular concern to Perhentian Island. It also reviews the views

of causes of global warming about connections between global warming phenomena and

sustaining tourism.

For this study, the methods used to collect data basically involve primary and secondary

data. Primary data includes giving out questionnaire, interviews, fieldwork (observation), and

also sourcing out other information (secondary data) from business journals, retailing journals,

published articles from the internet or newspapers and magazines, as well as gathering statistical

figures from business periodical indexes. The paper finds that whereas the majority of tourist did

not foresee a conflict between global warming phenomena and sustaining tourism, the possibility

of such a conflict is now more widely recognized following at the Perhentian Island.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

In the first place we would like to record my grateful thank to Allah S.W.T for blessing us in

completing this Independent Study.

Special gratitude and appreciations to Madam Zuliah for all the knowledge and guidance she had

given to us especially in the theory classes and towards the producing of this study. We are really

appreciated her supervision, advice, and guidance from the very early stage of this research as

well as giving me extraordinary experiences throughout the work. Without her kind effort in

lecturing and guiding, this report will not be able completely done.

Special thanks to Mr. Aziz, Mr. Hassan and all the interviewee, for their kindness to be

interviewed and share all the information that is really useful for our research.

We also benefited by outstanding feedback, knowledge and opinions of all our colleagues. We

were extraordinarily fortunate in having all of you for the times spent for the discussion and their

willingness to comment on our study.

Where would we be without our family? Our parents deserve special gratitude for their

inseparable support and prayers. Thanks for supporting and encouraging us to pursue this study.

Our appreciation dedicated also to those who are directly and indirectly involved along the

period. Especially those who are kindly give opinions and advices. May God bless them and

return them with a great life.
