Project involves management, design, building and operation of waste management facility

Abu Dhabi, 23 April 2010: Al Qudra Suez Services, an environmental entity developed as a joint venture between Al Qudra Holding and SUEZ ENVIRONMET, has signed a concession with the Centre of Waste Management Abu Dhabi for the value of AED 217 million to manage all hazardous waste streams generated in the emirate. The contract involves managing, designing, building and operating a hazardous waste management facility exclusively over a period of 15 years.

In aims of developing the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to international standards, and in line with the Abu Dhabi vision 2030, Al Qudra Holding sought to establish Al Qudra Suez in April 2007 to provide adequate solutions to the rapid growth and urbanization in the UAE and the region. The joint venture provides proven, cost- effective and best practice solutions in the hazardous waste management fields. Al Qudra Holding's regional market expertise, a long with Suez Environment's technical know-how, this joint venture possesses unique capabilities and strengths to be positioned as a leader in the market.

The concession signed involves the establishment of a facility meant to ensure the tracking of hazardous waste in addition to collecting statistics on the volume and type of the waste. The project will be implemented over two phases, involving 3 years to design and build the hazardous waste treatment facility.

To be located at Al Dhafra, the facility will be created to process hazardous waste safely and with minimal environmental impact. The facility will also introduce a waste tracking system which will allow traceability for hazardous waste in terms of determining consignment location, transport and treatment status and details of all consignees' in the chain.

The facility will manage a range of hazardous waste, including: medical waste, bulk and solid pasty, packaged waste, bulk liquid HCV, bulk liquid MCV, bulk liquid LCV, mineral hazardous waste, in addition to animal carcasses. The Centre of Waste Management will control the implementation of the project to ensure accordance with terms and conditions of the concession. The facility will not accept radioactive waste and other exemptions.

Al Mahmood also emphasised the fact that all of Al Qudra's initiatives are in accordance with the Abu Dhabi 2030 plan and that they promote sustainable development. He also added that the success of Al Qudra's operations demonstrates the vast opportunities fo r growth that the emirate provides for businesses in the private sector.

Commenting on the agreement, H.E . Hamad Al Ameri, General Manager of The Centre of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi, said:

its operations. The project will also focus on several important aspects including identifying potential clients with hazardous waste and ensuring that the appropriate treatment is used, in addition to creating fast-track projects with built-in flexibility when handling different sources of hazardous waste.
