Julius Caesar Act 2 & 3 Questions

1. Brutus’ and Cassius’ biggest disagreement was the killing of Antony. Cassius was

worried about Antony and wanted to kill him. He thought that Antony would kill

Cassius. Brutus was feeling the opposite though. Brutus thought that if he killed

Antony then the people of Rome would think that he is just a killer and doesn’t

care about Rome. Brutus would then lose all of the reputation that he had gotten

through out the years. Brutus ended up getting his way because Cassius has no

say. Brutus is the “leader” of the stabbing team and what he says goes. Cassius

knows that so he stands down and lets Brutus do what he wants.

2. Portia and Calpurnia and similar because they are both worried about their

husbands. Calpurnia has the dream where the people of Rome are celebrating in

Caesars blood. She thinks that this is a sign that he will be killed on this day.

Portia doesn’t want Brutus to do anything stupid and cuts up her leg to try and

prove something. The ways that they are different is that Brutus cares more about

his wife than Caesar does of his wife. Brutus thinks of them as equals instead of

her just being another women he married.

3. Decius is the stabbing MVP because he got Caesar away from his wife. He

interpreted the dream that Calpurnia had into a good thing saying that they were

rejoicing that he got the crown. This gets Caesar thinking that Decius’
interpretation is a lot better than his wife’s so he decides to go with Decius to get

killed.

4. Five warning that Caesar got about his death that he ignored was the note that was

told to be of urgency to be read but he just blew it off. The soothsayer saying that

he should beware the ides of March was also a warning that Caesar should have

known. When the stabbing team was walking him to the capital he should have

realized that this was a bad thing. He should have also gone with his gut feeling

about Cassius. He thought that he was skinny and that skinny people thought

instead of sitting around eating. The clearest one was the dream that his wife had.

This dream was obviously a bad sign that he was going to be killed. Why else

would the Romans be bathing in his blood?

5. Comic relief used in the play was when the cobbler said that he is getting all for

these people to walk so that he can get more money from cleaning their shoes.

This reliefs the tension of the surrounding events in the play.

6. Brutus convinced the crowd that he was justified in killing Caesar by using a lot

of rhetorical question. He asked things like “Do you hate Rome?” This was

obviously to be answered as a no since no man was to hate their own country. He

also said this because what he was saying was that Caesar was only bad for Rome

and not good for it. He also said “Do you want to be a slave?” This meant that if

Caesar was to become the ruler then everyone would be a slave for him.

7. Antony wont he crowd by bringing the body of Caesar. He also uses a lot of

sarcasm toward the stabbing team and Brutus explanation in killing Caesar.
8. Antony is better positioned in the Civil War because he has Octavius’ on his side

that has a fresh army that would wipe out the army that Brutus has. Brutus’ army

is all worn out because they just got down with the war that was with Caesar.
