Snehitharu: My dinner companions

It is a part of Malnad and the
cuisine of that region is quite
renowned for its mouth watering
flavours. And if you want to get a taste
of Malnad then, Kukkare is the place
to consider. Though it is a multi-cui-
sine restaurant that serves everything
from Coastal to Chinese to Tandoor,
it is the Malnad cuisine that stands
apart at Kukkare.
GENESIS: Kukkare is a venture of Sri
Annapoorna Foods, owned by the
Srichandra couple, who are passionate
chefs themselves. ‘Kukkare’ means
mushroom in Malnad, and the idea is
to provide a range of cuisines under
Naati Koli Saaru, Kaai Kadubu
among others.
COST:
For ` 900, you can share a
non veg starter, two non veg main
course dishes, with roti/ shavige/neer
dosa, and a couple of non alcoholic

So, soon after you encounter the Kane
Fry, you will also meet Chilly Chicken,
Tandoori Prawn and Caramel Custard.
The advantage of this is that you have
plenty of options in case you want to
mix and match a new cuisine with com-
fort food. A couple of masala drinks also
add some spice.
The gold winners: The Kukkare Special
Dum Ki Murg proved to be an excellent
starter, stuffed with spices and dry
fruits, and complemented by a chutney
that reminded us of ghee roasts. But
given its quantity, it would work better
for a large group. The more common
Mutton Kheema Cutlets were quite
good. In the main course, the name
meant that the Mutton Bengaluru was a
dish we had to try, and it didn’t disap-

Service: It was quite prompt and stuck
to the 20-minutes-to-serve rule men-
tioned in the menu. Mohit, part of the
management team, was also seen visit-
ing various tables and soliciting feed-
back.
Verdict: Drop in at Kukkare if you want
to check out the interesting Malnad cui-
sine. With an efficient service, the
restaurant manages to deliver a reason-
ably good dining experience.
