Internal Assessment 2009

Business and Management

While you are waiting to see me (or once you have seen me) you could be doing any/all of
the following:

Create a front cover which needs to include: The research question (if you know it),
Queensland Academy for Science, Mathematics and Technology, your name, space for your
student code and the due date which is 1st June 2009. You can add a relevant picture but
there should be no headers or footers on this page.

Acknowledgements page which basically thanks the sponsor/s and the business for the help
they have/will give you. This will be a separate page and your name must be included as a
font size 8 footer

Introduction which needs to be done on a separate page to all previous work. This should be
around 150-200 words long and include information such as: name of company; where it is
based; what it produces/does/sells; when they were created; type of business ownership (sole
trader etc); anything else relevant to your research question. The page numbering for your
internal assessment starts here and it should have your name as a size 8 footer too.

Outline your Primary Research methods for the methodology section by creating
questionnaires, interview questions, formulating emails or business letters etc. Minimum of
an interview plus a questionnaire unless your business is a sole trader. You MUST be able to
collect some quantitative data of you will get poor marks for criteria.

Outline your Secondary Research for the methodology section which needs to be relevant
to your research project e.g. if you were asking whether they should buy a new photocopier
you could get information about prices and styles of photocopiers available. You need to
keep a detailed record of all sources of information including the specific URL not just the
home page URL. Use the internet (keep specific URL addresses), magazines, newspapers,
textbooks etc. Remember we are using the same referencing as English – MLA

Alternatives
You need to suggest 3 or 4 alternatives to your business e.g. photocopier 1, photocopier 2,
photocopier 3, don’t buy a photocopier
For these alternatives you need to start to apply your research data to these (e.g. what does
the business say they want the photocopier for?)

Data Analysis – summarise your primary data (the bits which directly relate to your research
proposal). For secondary analyse how useful (or not) the info you have collected is for your
business. You must have some quantitative data you can analyse, put in graphs do some
statistical analysis with, if not, you will not score well on Criteria C and D.

Theory application and analysis: What theory are you going to use? How will it help you
sort out your coursework? This will just be 2 short paragraphs. However, throughout your
work you must explain how the real world situation of the business fits in with (or doesn’t fit
in with theory), and/or how theory could help the business

Conclusion – this needs to include a reference back to your objectives (have they been met?);
sum up the alternatives you considered; review the validity and completeness of your data
collections; are the any unanswered questions? and raise any problems/issues you had; refer
to data and theory
