A CODE OF CONDUCT will apply to all who attend the Eisteddfod. No yelling, whistling etc. during or after
performances. Performers must observe Theatre Etiquette and cover costumes when in the Theatre Audience.
No entry to the Theatre whilst performers are on stage.
Inappropriate behaviour towards volunteers and committee members will not be tolerated and may result in
disqualification.
The Orange Regional Arts Foundation supports and encourages a wide variety of arts related activities and
projects in the region (including the City of Orange Eisteddfod). As part of its successful and continued
involvement the Foundation is actively seeking new members to become patrons of the arts and to support its
expanding commitment.

RULES GOVERNING ENTRIES FOR THE CITY OF ORANGE EISTEDDFOD Soc. Inc.
LOCAL is a competitor with a 2800 postcode unless otherwise stated.
All correspondence dealing with entries must be addressed to the
Dance Entry Secretary, PO Box 8556 ORANGE NSW 2800.
1. This competition is open to Amateurs only i.e. people who do not derive their MAJOR income from
performance.
2. Entries in all sections must be in writing on the form provided or on plain paper with similar headings,
and lodged with the Entry Secretary on or before 10th June 2011.
Late Entries - 17th June 2011 will incur a one-off $10 fee.
3. No entries will be accepted or recorded unless accompanied by full entry fee.
4. No refund will be made for any entry fee paid after the entry has been accepted.
5. In all competitions, which are subject to an age limit, the age of the competitor shall be taken at the 31st
December 2011.The committee reserves the right to call upon any competitor at any time to furnish at
his or her expense a Certificate of Birth, or copy thereof, and can withhold any prize until such
Certificate or copy has been produced.
6. No competitor may compete more than once in any one section except in Duos/Trios or Groups where
specific rules apply -
(See Specific Section Rules)
7. In all sections where two or more are competing, the names of each competitor must be given at the
time of entry, except in the case of groups.
8. Competitors must not have been pupils of the Adjudicator in the six(6) months prior to the Eisteddfod.
9. Entrants are responsible for royalty and copyright payments and liabilities, if any.
10. The committee reserves the right to refuse any entry.
11. Competitors ENTER AT THEIR OWN RISK.
12. No competitor may render the same item in more than one class unless specified.
13. Notification of appearance is not given by mail unless a programme is ordered on entering.
14. The committee reserves the right to cancel or combine any sections.
15. SCHOLARSHIP and SPECIAL DANCE AWARD WINNERS ARE INELIGIBLE TO BE AWARDED
THE SAME PRIZE IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS.
GENERAL RULES
Please read carefully and check entries as no alterations can be made after the program has been
printed.
16. RESTRICTED means never having won a first prize in that section at any age at any Eisteddfod or
competition up to the closing date of entries. (This refers to the title of the section not the routine.)
Competitors eligible are permitted to enter Restricted or Open sections, or both, but must not repeat the
same routine.
17. The spraying of shoes within the Theatre is prohibited. Resin will be available for competitor use within
the stage area only. Failure to comply with these rules will render disqualification.
18. Competitors must be ready to take their places on the stage at the appointed time and in order set
down in the program (unless changes as in Rule 19). Failing this they shall be liable to disqualification.
19. The Committee reserves the right to amend the program at any time, to appoint a substitute or
additional adjudicator, to divide or couple any sections, or to alter competition times.
20. No teacher or parent shall be allowed in the stage area with a competitor.
21. The decision of the Adjudicator is final unless a protest is duly lodged under rule 22, in which case the
decision of the Protest Committee shall be accepted as final.
22. Protests accompanied by a deposit of $5.00 must be lodged in writing setting out full details of the
protests with a committee member, within 1 hour after the Adjudicator’s decision has been announced.
Should the protest not be upheld, the deposit will be forfeited.
Verbal grievances,complaints to individual committee members or volunteers are not in the
spirit of Eisteddfod competition and will not be tolerated and could lead to exclusion from any
further participation in the Eisteddfod.
23. The Committee reserves the right to withhold any prize money if they consider the circumstances
sufficient. The Committee shall enquire into the circumstances within 24hrs and their decision shall be
final.
24. Prompting, except by the adjudicator, will not be permitted under any circumstances.
25. No rehearsals are allowed on the stage of any venues during the Eisteddfod.
26. A report sheet from the Adjudicator will be available free of charge for competitors in each section.
27. If any competitor, teacher or parent approaches the adjudicator before or during any section, the
competitor may be disqualified.
28. No person may take another person's place in the program.
29. Please note - Props ruling (solos, duo/trios & Championships):
Props will be limited to ONE prop PLUS a choice of EITHER another small prop OR a hand held
prop. A chair will be allowed if needed to complete a set (i.e. table and chair together.)
No straw, glitter, lighted candles, sparklers, lighted cigarettes or any naked flame will be

All equipment must be moved from the stage area at the conclusion of each session.
30. All care has been taken in the compilation of the Syllabus and the Committee reserves the right to
rectify any errors or omissions, which appear in prize money or items.
31. Presentation of prizes will be as follows wherever possible: Major Prizes to be presented on stage
following adjudication; Minor Prizes to be collected from the front of house following adjudication.
Prizes not collected may be obtained from the Secretary. The onus is on the competitor to collect all
prizes, reports, medals, pennants, trophies, monies, certificates and tapes/cd’s.
32. The Committee invests the adjudicator with the power to withhold or alter any prize where he or she is
of the opinion that sufficient merit has not been displayed.
33. Competitors as nominated by the Committee will be invited to perform at the Grand Concert.
Winner of Scholarships, Open Ballet, Open Tap and Open Jazz Championships must be available to
perform at the Grand Concert if required or prize money may be withheld.
34. Please leave DRESSING ROOMS and GREEN ROOM TIDY. No responsibility will be taken for lost or
damaged property. No spraying of shoes permitted inside the Theatre.
35. GROUPS WHO ARE NOT COMPETING IN THE CURRENT SECTION CALLED WILL NOT BE
ALLOWED IN THE GREEN ROOM DUE TO THE CONGESTION IT CAUSES.
36. Please Note: THE USE OF VIDEO CAMERAS OR STILL CAMERAS WITHIN THE THEATRE IS
PROHIBITED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHERS. This includes the use of
mobile phones.
37. Curtains will only be used in Championships, Scholarships, Dance-Offs and beginning of Groups - if
time permits and at the discretion of the Dance Committee or Adjudicator.
TAPES /CDs
Please Note:
CDRW’S DO NOT PLAY on the Theatre’s sound system. Please ensure that your CD’s are CDR’s.
There is not an official accompanist for the Dancing Section. The sound system at the Civic Theatre must be
used for the playing of all tapes/CDs. The Committee will provide a competent person to play all tapes. EACH
DANCE MUST BE ON A SEPARATE TAPE/CD (CDs will not be played otherwise).

All tapes/CDs are to be clear, audible and set at correct position CLEARLY MARKED with NAME OF DANCE
SCHOOL and COPYRIGHT No. COMPETITORS NAME, SECTION No. & COMPETITOR No. This applies to
ALL Solos, Groups, Duos/Trios.
Tapes/CDs are to be handed into the Green Room area at least 2 sections before competing. Any specific
instructions must be attached and explicit. It is the competitor’s responsibility to hand tapes/CDs in on time.

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

ALL Electrical equipment brought into the Civic Theatre MUST be checked by a Certified electrician prior to the
Eisteddfod and have a current electrical tag in place. Any Electrical Equipment not meeting the Occupational
Health & Safety guidelines will not be allowed to be used in the Civic Theatre. This includes CD/tape players,
hair dryers etc.
TIME LIMITS (unless otherwise stated)
SOLOS 6yrs & under up to 2.5mins.
7 yrs & over up to 3mins.
SONG & DANCE SOLOS up to 3.5mins.
DUOS/TRIOS up to 3.5mins.
CABARET SECTION up to 5 min.
GROUPS (INCLUDING SCHOOL GROUPS) up to 5mins.
SONG & DANCE/THEATRICAL GROUPS up to 8mins.
TIME LIMITS WILL BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO.
A timer will be in use during the entire Eisteddfod. The timer will be set at the COMMENCEMENT of the music
or the Dance, whichever occurs first. A buzzer will sound at the end of the allocated time, after which the music
will cease. Adjudication will also cease at this point and the competitor must bow and exit the stage.
Disqualification will only take place if this rule is not adhered to. The committee is aware that tape players play
at different speeds and have taken this into consideration.
TROPHIES
Trophies will be awarded to competitors in various age divisions chosen by the adjudicator, for
Encouragement, Consistency and Most Promising Dancers.

POINTSCORE TROPHIES - in all age divisions.


DANCE SCHOOL POINTSCORE TROPHIES.
Pointscore Trophies are awarded on the basis of 8 points – 1st; 5 points – 2nd; 3 points – 3rd; and 1 point - H.C.
*Central West Performing Arts - 12yrs & under and 13yrs & over (restricted sections also included).
*Colourcity Danceworks - 12yrs & under and 13yrs & over (restricted sections also included).
*Orange Pointscore Trophies to be awarded to a local dancer (2800 postcode) who is a permanent pupil of an
Orange Dance School 12yrs & under and 13yrs & over. Regency Jewellers sponsor the 13yrs & over
Pointscore Trophy with a $50 Gift Voucher.
*The John Hull Trophy will be awarded to a male classical dancer. (Donated by the Hull Family)
*Lyndi Walley Shield for Groups will be awarded to the best overall ‘Contemporary Group’– any age.
*Schools’ Group Trophies will be awarded to Small Schools; Infants; Primary; Secondary & Special Needs
Groups.
*Garry Stocks Perpetual Trophy for most promising Tap Dancer – 13yrs & over.
*Damon Griffiths Perpetual Trophy to winner of Open Tap Championship.
*Betty Callaghan Memorial Trophy to best overall Entertaining/Song & Dance competitor. (Donated by Quota
Club)
NOTE:
*No jingle taps allowed in any tap sections.
*Interpretation of Modern Expressive and Contemporary are included in Groups Section.
*If there are less than three (3) competitors in any section, the section may be cancelled or combined with the
next age group or a similar section.
*IMPROVISATIONS
Ballet/Demi – to be danced in plain coloured leotard
(a short sheer ballet skirt is permissible – no head pieces permitted).
Jazz/Tap/Modern – to be danced in a one-piece plain coloured leotard.
(a short sheer ballet skirt or jazz shorts are permissible - no belts or head bands permitted).
The Adjudicator will choose the music.

CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ballet Championships Dancers entering the Ballet Championship must have entered and danced in their own age section
in the Classical and Demi-Character solos.
Competitors in each championship are to perform a classical & a Demi-Character routine.
Tap Championships Dancers entering the Tap Championship must have entered and danced in their Tap own age
Section PLUS one of the following: Waltz Tap, Fast Tap, Tap Ensemble.
Competitors in each championship are to perform a slow and a fast routine.
Jazz Championships Dancers entering the Jazz Championship must have entered and danced in their own age section
in the following: Jazz or Cabaret solo.
Competitors in each championship are to perform a Jazz Solo.
National Character Championships
Dancers entering the National Character Championship must have entered and danced in the
National Character section in their own age section.
Competitors in each championship are to perform one National Character routine.
Modern Championships
Dancers entering the Modern Championship must have entered and danced in their own age section
in the Modern Expressive and Contemporary solos.
Competitors in each championship are to perform a Modern Exp. and a Contemporary routine.

• Time Limits for ALL Championships – up to 3mins.

• Intermediate and Open Championships will be combined if insufficient entries.

DUOS & TRIOS
NOTE:
• Competitors may enter twice in each section providing it is a different style of dance – eg Jazz and Classical
• An individual dancer may compete a maximum of twice in a duo/trio style(eg two Jazz routines) provided each entry
is with a different partner.
• Sections may be combined if insufficient entries. Time Limit - up to 3.5mins
• Names of Duo/Trio competitors must be indicated on entry form or entry will not be accepted – once program is
published partners cannot be altered unless Committee notified prior to commencement of Eisteddfod.

• Groups must consist of 4 or more dancers.
• 15yrs & over Groups – ALL competitors MUST be 15yrs & over (Time Limit – up to 8mins)
• 18yrs & over Groups – ALL competitors MUST be 18yrs & over (Time Limit – up to 8mins)

• A competitor may NOT compete twice in each section unless he/she regularly attends more than one Dance School
- in which case he/she may still only perform ONE dance routine for each Dance School per section.
• The committee MUST BE NOTIFIED of any such CROSSOVER COMPETITORS when entering to allow time for
programming.

• Teachers please note that curtains will be used only at the beginning of routines if time permits & at the discretion of
Committee. Curtains WILL NOT be used at the end of routines.
• Group Sections will be combined if insufficient entries.
• Competitors will not be allowed in the Theatre during the Groups Weekend.
• All electrical equipment to be used in the theatre during the Eisteddfod MUST be tagged by a certified electrician.
• Strictly no use of Videos or still photography in the theatre. This is a breach of copyright.
• JOHN REID SMITH will be in attendance for still photography in the downstairs foyer.
• KEA VIDEO PRODUCTIONS will be in attendance for video performances at the Civic Theatre.
• Ruling for Vocals on tapes/CDs does not apply to Groups Sections.
• List of Competitors’ Names in each Group must be handed to Backstage Committee prior to Groups taking stage
(OH&S rulings).
• Students & teachers must also abide by the City of Orange Eisteddfod’s Code of Conduct.

Interpretations
Modern Expressive - Slow controlled movements of modern ballet, expressing the music with emotion. Set to lyrical music.
Contemporary - Free movements and original choreography content. Set to any music.

NOTE: School Dance Groups will be scheduled during School Hours and will be held at the Function Centre to allow
students to enter the hall before/after competing.

coloured leotard and ballet tights, pointe and flat shoes will be required. (Short sheer ballet skirts
are permissible).
3. Finalists will be chosen from this class to compete in the Scholarship Dance-off. Competitors
are to perform (a) one classical and (b) a choice of either a Demi-Character or a Modern
Expressive – routines may be repeated.
4. Competitors must have entered and performed in their Ballet Championship.
5. The adjudicator may withhold the prize money if he/she feels the standard is not high enough.
6. Time limit – up to 4mins for each routine.
7. This award is to further competitors study at a major dance studio.
