Welcome from the Chairman

Welcome to Cae Piod this afternoon for Bow Street’s first home league game of the
season.
It only feels like yesterday that last season finished!
We offer a special warm welcome to our visitors from Llanfyllin, who were familiar
opponents last season as we met three times.
We had an absolutely fantastic day at Cae Piod last Saturday, with the dramatic victory
after extra time crowning a wonderful occasion. We now look forward in anticipation to
September 13th, and our visit to the foot of Snowdonia, to play Llanberis.
Enjoy the game today.
Wyn Lewis
Chairman, Bow Street Football Club

The game ahead
Today we welcome Llanfyllin to Cae Piod in our first home league
game of the season. If the game is as good a quality as the one here
last weekend anyone watching the game will be in for a treat. The wind
obviously played a huge factor in both halves of normal time but the
way the lads ground out a result in extra time was incredibly pleasing
and for me showed that “the young bulls” are certainly ready for life on
the pitch at this level, even if their boat race skills need some work!
Last season we managed to pick up 4 points against Llanfyllin but the
incredibly tough goalless draw at their place showed that on their day
they are a very hard team to break down. However, with competition
for places at an all time high, I am sure that we will once again create a lot of chances today
and hopefully we can bury a few and put three points on the board.
A big thank you to all those involved in arranging last weekend’s sponsor’s hospitality event
which was a resounding success and the additional (very vocal!) support was much appreciated
by both me and the lads. We’re all very much looking forward to our trip to Llanberis on the
13th September and hope that a few of our new found followers are able to make the trip!
Best of luck to both sides today. I hope the quality of the football matches the quality of the
pitch (Nice work Ger).

Bow Street Reserves

Allan Evans is the new manager for the Reserve team this year. After years of spearheading this
club’s highly acclaimed junior section, ‘Baba’ has fittingly progressed to adult management.
He has gathered a young squad together, many of whom have played for him with the juniors,
as well as some experienced veterans. He has chosen Ian Frost as his assistant, and they look
forward to an exciting and successful season in the second division of the Cambrian Tyres
league. They enjoyed an emphatic 3 – 0 victory over first division side, Llanrhystud on Tuesday
of this week in a friendly match.

Adroddiad y Gem Match Report
Bow Street 4. Overton Recreational 2. Welsh Cup Preliminary Round
Bow Street had the perfect start to the new season on Saturday by beating North Wales side Overton
Recreational in the Welsh Cup.
On a blustery day at Cae Piod a large crowd had gathered to watch Huw Bates’ new look team in their
first ever encounter in Wales’ premier competition and they will certainly not have been disappointed
with either the result or the performance.
Street started well with a strong wind in their favour and could have been three goals up within the first
quarter of an hour but Dean Evans had a header saved and a shot rebound off the post and skipper Phil
Evans was also denied by a brilliant save from the visiting keeper. However, Street’s perseverance
eventually paid off on 35 minutes when Dean Evans produced a delightful chip to put the Magpies in the
lead and 5 minutes later new signing Mikey Gornall scored from an almost identical position following
good work from the impressive Gwyn Jones.
As was the case for much of last season, Street started the second half slowly and were almost caught
out within minutes of the restart and almost inevitably conceded 10 minutes later after a defensive mix
up. Overton then rallied and deservedly equalised with 15 minutes to go and with neither side able to
force a winner in normal time the game needed the extra half an hour to produce a result. To delight of
the Magpies faithful it was Bow Street took the opportunity to win it courtesy of a low drive from Owain
James and a cool finish from Josh Shaw after some brilliant work from Jason Rees.
Street manager Huw Bates was both relieved and delighted with the result: “The only thing that really
matters in these big cup games is the result and therefore I am absolutely thrilled to have our name in the
hat for the next round of the cup. We didn’t’ play very well in the second half and Overton used the wind
to their advantage to force the game into extra time but on the whole I think we deserved to win the tie.”.
Bates also praised his new signings after their goals set up a trip to Llanberis in the next round: “It’s a bit
of a fairytale start really with three goals and an assist from my 4 new signings and a goal and a man of
the match performance from Dean Evans. These youngsters showed a lot of maturity today to dig me
out of a very tricky situation and I am very proud of them all.”
