Business Plan Competition

This is precisely the mission of NaSCon Business Plan Competition 2011: to change perspectives and
touch lives of so many young, budding entrepreneurs of our great nation!
The objective of NaSCon Business Plan Competition 2011 is to promote new business ideas as a
path for students to explore the entrepreneurial realm filled with extraordinary possibilities. NU-
FAST aims to serve as a catalyst for encouraging entrepreneurship and building a foundation of
future entrepreneurs by harnessing the talent of students. We want to serve as enablers for
students in providing them with opportunities to present their business plans at a national platform
and to seek mentoring from leading industry professionals and successful entrepreneurs.
We, the team of NaSCon Business Plan Competition 2011, strive to provide a meaningful and
profound learning experience for students who are interested in pursuing entrepreneurial
opportunities at some point in their careers. This competition is certainly one such platform where
entrepreneurship becomes accessible and attainable!

PARTICIPATION
Entry Requirements
 Each team entering the competition should include 3-5 participants.
 All undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate in the competition.
 The participating teams are not limited to follow a particular competition theme. All proposed
ventures, however, must have clear, well-developed and comprehensive business models.
 There is no limitation on the number of teams entering from any one university.
 All teams must register by the deadline of 1st April, 2011.

FORMAT AND RULES OF THE COMPETITION


Round 1:
1. Presentation format for this round simply involves verbal presentation by a member of the
participating team. No other documents or presentation slide deck are required at this stage of
the competition.
2. One member from each participating team will present an Elevator Pitch of maximum 2
minutes. This generally includes a brief introduction and value proposition of the business idea.
3. 8 teams will be shortlisted to take part in next round. Details will be announced as the
competition progresses.

Round 2:
4. Presentation format for this round includes presentation slide deck PLUS hard copy of the
proposed business plan.
5. Selected teams will have maximum 20 minutes to present their business plan. Ideally, a
business plan should include important aspects of the venture which include but not limited to:
Business Description, Marketing Plan, Financial Plan, and Operational Plan.
6. This will be followed by a Q&A session of 5-10 minutes from judges and audience.

7. 4 teams will be selected to move on to the final round.

Final Round:
8. Qualifying teams will be provided 10 minutes at maximum to present their venture to panel of
judges. This stage of presentation will serve as a final opportunity for participating teams to
convince judges about their business propositions.
9. Winner and runner-up teams will be given due recognition through awarding certificates and
prize money.

General Rules of the Competition


 The evaluation criteria of judges will include assessment on three factors: quality of written
business plan, professionalism of the presentation and the perceived viability of the venture.
 The time limits and format requirements for different rounds will be strictly followed.
 Participating teams can have at least 2 or maximum 4 presenters. All team members, however,
are encouraged to take part in the Q&A session.
 Teams qualifying for Round 2 will be presented with certificates.
 The decision of the evaluating panel of judges shall be final.

REGISTRATION
1. The complete registration requires the following documents to be submitted before the
deadline:
 Registration Form
 Reference Letter
 Registration Fee
2. The last date for submission of registration form is 1st April, 2011.
3. All participants must submit a reference letter by academic office/faculty advisor of that
university to identify them as currently enrolled undergraduate/graduate students of that
institute. This letter can be submitted by hand, post, fax, or through emailing the scanned copy
of the reference letter.
4. Registration fee for the Business Plan Competition is PKR 1600/- per team and is non-
refundable.
Payment Method:
5. Bank Draft: Registration fee may be in the form of a bank draft (excluding bank charges) in favor
of “National University of Computers and Emerging Sciences Islamabad”, which should be
payable in any Pakistan based bank. This bank draft can be submitted either by post or by hand.

TRAVELING AND ACCOMODATION


6. Accommodation arrangements for students outside Islamabad/Rawalpindi would be made by
the NASCON Management on request. For accommodation related inquiries, participants can
email at nascon@nu.edu.pk.
7. NASCON Management will not bear any traveling expenses for the participants.
