Communicative Language Teaching Lesson Plan

Class Description: 2nd grade Primary

Ages between 6 and 7

24 students

They attend class 3 hours a week.

Location: Red Riding Hood School in Santander

Length of Class: 50 minutes

Language Skills: Speaking Listening, Writing, Reading, Interaction,

Topic of the Lesson: “It’s summertime”.

Materials: Chairs and desks authentic materials scramble sentences and

language games, CD, DVDs, book, workbook, teacher’s

magazine, spins, story flashcards,

Vocabulary: Transports media, the weather, numbers from 1 to one million, food,

places, months of the year, the time, likes/dislikes

Objectives:

Students will be able:

1. To be fluent using the target language.

2. To show a positive attitude at the English language.

3. To recognize English sounds the phonics, the rhythm and the intonation.

4. To use gestures and bodily expression to communicate.

5. To make and tell stories, songs and poems with rhythm as a way to enjoy

and communicate.

6. To know usual vocabulary and topics or typical expressions

7. To be able to recognize their own expression limits and abilities.

8. To motivate them to act with their own autonomy.

9. To express emotions, feelings, ideas using the oral language, changing the

codes due to the different contexts.

10. To understand oral message with known information.

11. To knows basic vocabulary related to the contents

What language have you decided to teach and

why?

We´ve decided to prepare our lesson plan in English because we thought that

knowing more than one language is necessary, and that is the future.

We prepared this lesson plan for the first fortnight of June, because it is the way to

contextualize the summer, because the last fortnight of June is used to prepare the

ending course. We only have three times a week because the class takes part just

in the morning. So we planned this lesson for 5 seasons of fifty minutes.

ACTIVITIES:

SEASON 1 “The food”

ACTIVITY 1: (5 minutes)

Starting lesson singing “hello’s song” (3 minutes). The teacher stays at the front of the class

in order to demand the students to sing. The teacher also chooses a

buddy at random in order to start the song and explain it with

gestures to the rest of classmates.

“Hello children, how are you? (x3)

Fine, thank you. We are fine.

Hello teacher how are you? (x3)

Fine, fine too.

Hello, hello, hello. (x2)”

Go on with the lesson, answer and asking some questions (2 minutes):

What´s the weather like today?

What is your telephone number?

What is the color of your shirt?

What is your name?

Where did you go last week-end?

How are you today?

How old are you?

When is your birthday?

What day is today?

ACTIVITY 2:

The teacher gives

How do you think you can explain the word which you don’t

know in English?

“Karuta” game (matching cards): (10 minutes)

- Have students get into groups of 4.

- Place vocabulary / idiom cards on desk at random.

- Students of each group stand around the desks.

- The teacher reads a sentence / a couple of sentences, which is

showing / describing the meaning of cards without using the word.

- Students take cards which match with the sentence/s the teacher reads.

- (Whoever takes cards the most is a winner.)

Introduction: (5 minutes)

Explain Guessing game which is going to do in the presentation.

Presentation: (30 minutes)

Guessing game:

- One volunteer student sits on the chair face to other students.

- The teacher writes down vocabulary / idiom on the whiteboard.

- Students except the volunteer have to give the volunteer a hint what the

word on the white board is without using the word.

- Each student gives one hint until the volunteer can get a correct answer.

Practice: (20 minutes)

Role play: - Have students get a pair.

- The teacher gives students a topic.

- Students explain the word which is given to each other.
