269-650-8808 * rb520726@westpost.net
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST * GEOLOGIST
Detail-oriented environmental professional with 17
years of experience developing and implementing
sampling plans (including soil, rock, and
groundwater) to determine and eliminate contamination
issues. Expertly evaluates chemical and radioactive
constituents, then produces documentation that
provides comprehensive analysis and interpretation.
Background includes collaborations with key federal
agencies and clients.
Areas of expertise include:
Data Analysis & Interpretation * Regulatory
Compliance * Environmental Site Assessments
Groundwater/Soil Sampling & Monitoring * Project
Management * Presentations * Client Relations
Reporting & Documentation * Work Plan Review * Top
Secret Security Clearance * Microsoft Office
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY, Livermore,
California * 1994-2007
U.S. Department of Energy-funded scientific research
laboratory.
Environmental Scientist/Analyst
Piloted groundwater/wastewater monitoring activities
for 2 disposal facilities, as well as storm water
monitoring, to ensure compliance with key regulations
and authorities, including State of California's
Waste Discharge Requirements, U.S. Department of
Energy, and NPDES specifications. Authored quarterly
and annual reports that detailed water's chemical
constituents.
Additionally, directed non-compliance groundwater
evaluation at 1 of Laboratory's 2 sites, in
conjunction with CERCLA monitoring, to determine
potential human/environmental threats of radioactive
or related constituents. Served as area expert,
tapped to characterize nature and extent of
contamination to soils following spills of, or
release of debris from, hazardous materials.
Developed and delivered presentations of findings to
the DOE and at other professional conferences. Kept
up-to-date with OSHA Hazwoper training.
Major Highlights:
* Played key role in cessation of costly groundwater
monitoring of a surface wastewater impoundment -
helped achieve "clean closure" by collaborating with
contractor to analyze sediment samplings, then led a
technical discussion to illustrate that the chemical
constituents would not adversely impact underlying
groundwater.
* Uncovered hazardous concentrations of lead and
copper in gravel berm through development and
implementation of a soil sampling plan at one of
LLNL's sites; utilized a state-approved analytical
model to determine that lead and copper from bullets
in the surrounding soil did not pose an immediate
threat to human health or the environment.
* Contributed to development and implementation of a
sampling plan for gravels, rock, and soil of new
excavation site to check for uranium, non-radioactive
materials, and explosive constituents. Determined
disposal requirements for radioactive/hazardous
waste, and that a major portion of the soils could be
left in specified areas.
* Co-delivered a technical paper at a 2001 DOE
environmental monitoring conference following a study
showing that sudden surges of radioactive tritium in
groundwater samples were due to seasonal El Nino
rains.
* Overcame waste concerns by performing non-
compliance monitoring for a site, which showed that
constituents remaining in the soil from former waste
disposal facilities were not significantly migrating
into the underlying groundwater.
SCIENCE APPLICATIONS INTERNATIONAL CORP., San
Francisco, California * 1990-1994
Leading provider of scientific, engineering, systems
integration and technical services and solutions.
Environmental Geologist
Provided technical oversight of issues involving site
contamination for CERCLA (Superfund) facilities in
California, Arizona, and Nevada on behalf of the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Reviewed plans
and oversaw data analysis and samplings submitted by
site contractors to ensure they met compliance and
that that proper determination of nature and extent
of contamination was made. Stayed abreast of all
CERCLA and RCRA regulations. Performed multiple
compliance inspections at several RCRA sites.

CAREER NOTE: Previous roles include Geophysicist for

Terra Linda Group (specializing in computer modeling)
and for Chevron Oil Company/Natural Gas Corporation
(determined drill well locations and contributed to
all phases of reflection seismic data processes.
