will be posted here. These explanations are meant to help the reader participate more fully in the Sunday Mass. Please check

Reading and Explaining the Word of God
When the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people, and Christ, present in his own word,
proclaims the Gospel. Therefore, all must listen with reverence to the readings from God’s word, for they make up an element
of greatest importance in the Liturgy. Although in the readings from Sacred Scripture God’s word is addressed to all people of
every era and is understandable to them, nevertheless, a fuller understanding and a greater effectiveness of the word is fostered
by a living commentary on the word, that is, the homily, as part of the liturgical action.

Reconciliation in the second grade and First Commun-
ion in the third grade after they have experienced full
preparation during those three years.
Kindergarten Sessions Our Lady of Peace parish
also offers religious education for kindergarten aged
children at a reduced fee. Kindergarten classes are not
‘required’ but parents often want their children to be-

FAITH-FILLED ADULTS
One of the most rewarding things you can do is share
your faith with the young people of our parish as a cate-
chist who teaches in our Religious Education Program.
Although many of our catechists are returning in the fall,
there are available openings in the grades and times be-
low:
Thursdays, 3:30 – 4:45 pm: Grade 5 or 6
Please check your heart to see if God is calling you to
the catechetical ministry, and then phone the Catechet-
ical Office at 908-464-8156 so we can give you all the
info you need.
Catechists are not necessarily professional teachers; they
are just ‘ordinary’ faith-filled adults who love our Catho-
lic faith and enjoy interacting with children and young
people. We will help you with the tools you need, in-
cluding curriculum, lesson planning, and training. Our

Excel Basketball Camp
Coach Frank Allocco, a 1967 Our Lady of Peace
Alumnus and 1971 New Providence High School
Graduate, will return to New Providence to conduct
the Excel in Basketball Summer Camp.
Basketball day camps will be held the weeks of
August 1st, August 8th at Our Lady of Peace and Au-
gust 15th at the New Providence Middle/High School.
