PART 1 General
1.2 REFERENCES
.1 Submit shop drawings in accordance with Section 01001 – General Requirements, for all
equipment and materials specified herein.
.3 Tank drawings shall show locations of all fittings, hold-down points and critical dimensions.
.1 All tradesmen shall be skilled and regularly engaged in this type of Work.
1.5 SUBMITTALS
.1 The Contractor shall provide four copies of gauge chart indicating contained volume (in litres)
of tank for each centimeter of depth of contained liquid. Gauge charts shall be based on
actual tank capacity and shall be accurate to within 0.1% of tank volume.

PART 2 Products
.1 Design:
.1 The tank shall be double-wall, Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) construction,
single compartment, and designed to contain 2538 L of Diesel Fuel (specific gravity
of 0.86), and shall comply with the requirements of ULC-S615-98.
.2 Six (6) stainless steel threaded, Class 150 female couplings shall be installed on the
tank shell for use as follows:
.1 One ¾” diameter coupling used for the supply
.2 One 2” diameter coupling used for an air vent
.3 One 1½” diameter coupling used for the return
.4 One 4” diameter coupling used for the interstitial leak detection probe
.5 One 4” diameter coupling used for the fill pipe
.6 One 4” diameter coupling used for the four-foot level probe.
.3 The tank shall come complete with an FRP containment sump complete with gaskets
and hardware for liquid-tight sealing of sump, conduit, piping, and secondary
containment piping systems against water entry. Top of sump cover to be flush with
grade and complete with lockable cover.
.4 Two lift-lugs shall straddle the centreline of the tank. Lift-lugs shall be designed to
carry four times the empty weight of the tank.
.5 Tank shall be capable of burial up to 2.1 m (7 ft.) to top of tank.
.6 Tank shall come complete with a gauge chart with headings at ½ cm intervals, and a
calibrated dipstick with ½ cm intervals.
.7 Tank shall be constructed of such materials, and by such process, that it shall not
break, collapse or corrode due to exposure to ambient soil or water or designated
contents for a period of thirty (30) years from date of installation.
.8 Detailed, written installation instructions shall be provided with the tank.
.9 Acceptable Material: ZCL model P40-DW – 2500 L, or approved equal.
.1 Design:
.1 General: The underground fuel supply and return pipes shall be totally prefabricated,
double-wall pipe type containment systems meeting the requirements of ULC/ORD-
C107.19.
.2 Carrier Pipe
.1 Material: Kynar PVDF.
.2 Nominal Diameter: ¾”, 1½”.
.3 Acceptable Material: Environ model GFP-2075R (3/4”), GFP-2150R(1 ½”), or
approved equal.
.3 Containment Pipe
.1 Material: Polyethylene.
.2 Nominal Diameter: 4”.
.3 Acceptable Material: Environ model GDP045001, or approved equal.

.1 Swivel Elbows
.1 Material: Ductile iron.
.2 Size: ¾”, 1½”.
.3 Acceptable Material: Environ model SEF-1515 (1½”), or approved
equal.
.2 Swivel Adapters
.1 Material: Stainless steel.
.2 Size: ¾”, 1½”.
.3 Acceptable Material: Environ model SMA-7575 (3/4”), SMA-1515
(1½”), or approved equal.
.3 Primary Couplings
.1 Material: Stainless steel.
.2 Size: ¾”, 1½”.
.3 Acceptable Material: Environ model SPC-0075 (3/4”), SPC-0150
(1½”), or approved equal.
.5 Pipe Supports
.1 All carrier piping shall be suitably spaced, guided, and supported within the
containment casing. Pipe support shall be design to maintain orientation of
the pipes throughout the system and shall permit axial movement or lateral
movement due to expansion or contraction. Supports shall be designed to
permit for continuous airflow and spilled fluid to drain to the nearest leak
detection point. When used with a leak detection/location cable, the supports
shall have flared end stainless steel guide tubes that facilitate cable pulling
and prevent cable damage during pulling operation. Pipe supports shall be
fixed to prevent movement during transportation, installation and operation.
.6 Subassemblies
.1 All subassemblies shall be designed to allow for complete draining of the
secondary containment.
.7 Corrosion Resistance
.1 The piping system shall be manufactured of such materials, that it shall not
corrode due to the exposure to ambient soil or water or designated contents
of pipe, for a period of thirty (30) years from the date of installation.
.1 Vent Pipe
.1 Material: Kynar PVDF.
.2 Nominal Diameter: 2”.
.3 Acceptable Material: Environ model GVP-1200, or approved equal.
.2 Fittings
.1 Swivel Adapter

.1 Design:
.1 Anchors shall be of “deadman” type designed for placement on each side of the tank,
on the bottom of the tank excavation.
.2 Anchors shall be designed with attachment points corresponding to designated
anchorage positions of tank.
.3 Anchors shall have a total overall length equal to the tank to which they are attached.
.4 Tank shall be held by anchors by means of non-corroding straps, which extend
between anchors and over the tank at designated positions. Straps shall attach to
the anchors by means of hooks. Each strap shall be capable of being adjusted for
snug fit by means of a turnbuckle.
.5 Anchors shall be “inverted T” cross-sectional profile for maximum, load carrying
capability.
.6 Anchor system shall be designed to distribute loading equally between designated
anchoring points on tank.
.7 Anchoring system shall not interfere with backfilling beneath the tank.
.2 Loading Conditions:
.1 Anchoring system shall be capable of withstanding continuously the uplift forces
caused by ground water pressure. Such loading shall be considered with the tank
empty of all liquid and external water level at surface of backfill.
.2 Each component of the anchoring system shall have a factor of safety of a minimum
of 2.1 against failure, under the most severe loading conditions. Such loading shall
be considered with tank empty of all liquid and external water level at surface of
backfill.
.3 Materials:
.1 Anchors shall be constructed from minimum 25 MPa strength concrete, reinforced
internally with steel reinforcing bars. All internal reinforcement to be cross-tied to
prevent pullout of hold-down points. All exposed reinforcing steel to be corrosion
protected with bonded epoxy coating.

.4 Level Sensor
.1 The probe shall be capable of utilizing standard non-shielded gas- and oil-resistant
wire between 14 AWG and 18 AWG for field connections.
.2 There shall be no more than two conductors between the probe and control console.
.3 The probe shall be capable of performing a leak detect test to 0.1 GPH or higher.
.4 The probe shall be suitable for underground tank installations.
.5 A cap and ring kit, available from the manufacturer, shall be supplied with the probe
for easy installation and removal.
.6 The probe shall use digital communications protocol format for maximum RF/EMF
resistance immunity.
.7 Acceptable Material: Veeder-Root model 0847390-101, or approved equal.
.1 A 5-gallon polyethylene spill containment manhole complete with cast iron lid. The spill
containment manhole shall be a grade level model, with a hand pump included for easy
removal of spilled product. Cast iron deflector ring for protection. Lightweight, rain-tight fiber
reinforced cover for easy access.
.2 Materials:
.1 Body, seat, and poppet: Brass.
.2 Screen: Stainless steel.
.1 Materials:
.1 Valve body: Anodized aluminum.
.2 Floats: Polyethylene.
.3 Drop tubes: Aluminum.
.4 Flappers 1st stage: Zinc.
.5 Flappers 2nd stage: Acetal.
.6 Guide rod: Stainless steel.
.2 Size: 4” diameter.
PART 3 Execution
3.1 INSTALLATION
.1 Underground Tank
.1 Tank shall be installed in accordance with CAN/CSA-B139-00, National Fire Code of
Canada and CCME-EPC-LST-61E-93 - "Code of Practice".
.2 Position tank using lifting lugs and hooks, and where necessary use spreader bars.
Do not use chains in contact with tank walls.
.3 Tank shall be installed in accordance with all applicable Municipal, Provincial and
Federal Codes. Tank manufacturer, in writing, must approve all deviation from
published installation instructions.
.4 Tank shall be installed by Contractors licensed, trained, and certified in the
manufacturer’s installation procedures.
.5 Install anchors as per manufacturer’s installation instructions.
.6 Provide certification of installation to Contract Administrator.
.2 Underground Piping
.1 Pipes shall be installed in accordance with CAN/CSA-B139-00, National Fire Code of
Canada, CCME-EPC-LST-61E-93 - "Code of Practice" and manufacturer's written
installation instructions.
.2 Pipes shall be installed in accordance with all applicable Municipal, Provincial and
Federal Codes. Pipe manufacturer, in writing, must approve all deviation from
published installation instructions.
.3 Pipes shall be installed by Contractors licensed, trained, and certified in the
manufacturer’s installation procedures. The Contractor shall strictly adhere to the
installation guidelines supplied by the system manufacturer and shall keep the
secondary containment system clean and dry, at all times during the installation
process.
3.2 BEDDING AND BACKFILL FOR PIPES
.1 A 100-mm layer of bedding material shall be placed and tamped in the trench to provide a
uniform bedding for the containment pipe. The entire trench shall be evenly backfilled in
150 mm compacted layers to a minimum height of 150 mm above the top of the piping
system. The remaining trench shall be evenly and continuously backfilled in uniform layers
with suitable excavated soil. Bedding and backfill materials shall be as recommended by the
manufacturer.
.1 Manufacturer:
.1 Tank shall be leak tested by the manufacturer with 35 kPa (5 psi) internal pressure.
During the pressure test, the exterior of the tank shall be tested to be free of leaks
with a soapy water solution.
.2 Tank shall be designed such that it is capable of being subjected to a Precision Leak
Test after installation.
.3 Tank shall be subjected to a vacuum test of 10 inches Hg minimum to verify
structural integrity.

.2 Contractor:
.1 Prior to installation, the Contractor shall leak test the tank and perform the required
deflection measurements, as stipulated in the installation instructions. A copy of the
installation checklist and inspection report (included with the installation instructions)
shall be completed by the Contractor and returned to the manufacturer.
.1 Underground Tank
.1 During installation, the Contractor shall test the tank and perform the required
deflection measurements, as stipulated in the installation instructions. A copy of the

.2 Underground Piping
.1 During installation, the Contractor shall test the pipe Work and leakage detection
systems, as stipulated in the installation instructions. A copy of the installation
checklist and inspection report (included with the installation instructions) shall be
completed by the Contractor and returned to the pipe manufacturer.
.1 Tank shall be inspected before being installed with any damage being repaired before tank is
lowered into the excavation.
