Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of Stafford

Dollars for Scholars

Scholarship Application Information

Dear Student and Parents,

We are pleased that you are interested in applying for a scholarship from CSF of
Stafford. The foundation was organized in 1962 by a group of concerned local citizens
who wanted to help young people pursue their dreams of a college education. The
organization has grown since that time to encompass almost 150 permanent trust
funds and over $1,400,000 in funding. Students who are residents of either Stafford or
Union are welcome to apply for a scholarship if they are pursuing any form of
postsecondary education whether that is a technical education, two-year school, or
four-year college or university. Last year the foundation awarded $62,000 to fifty-five
students

The process is anonymous, as your application will be given a number as it moves

through the process. There are two portions to your application. The awards committee
will look at both the need of the student to meet the costs of their chosen educational
program and the relative merit of each student. Students will be reviewed for their
academic accomplishment, extracurricular activities, work experience, and community
involvement. Merit points are awarded to each student in these categories.

We will ask you to submit financial information. Students need to submit their choice
of educational institution. A cost of attendance will be compiled from the Peterson’s
Guide or a similar reference. Please notify us immediately if your school of choice
changes. We will also ask you to submit your FAFSA-SAR form from the Federal
government that shows the parent’s expected contribution. The third piece of
information we ask for is your letter of acceptance, with the financial aid package the
particular school is offering the student. The committee is interested in scholarships
and grants that you might be receiving from your chosen institution. Loans are not
considered in the need calculation. From these three pieces of information, we will
calculate a need figure for you. Need is the primary consideration for the awarding
of scholarships by CSF of Stafford. Students who do not demonstrate need
through our formulas are still eligible for scholarships, but the awards will usually
be modest. No student is guaranteed a scholarship, though in the last few years
all students who applied have received an award.

From the combined need and merit information the awards committee will determine
scholarships. No application received after the due date or incomplete without prior
communication with CSF of Stafford will be considered. Applications received without
FAFSA information will not be considered. Thank you for participating in the
process. We wish you good luck in your future educational experience.
