2008 - 2010: Director of Development, Alexander Graham Bell Association for the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf a
nd Hard of Hearing, a 120 year-old national organization, helps families, health
care providers and education professionals understand childhood hearing loss an
d the importance of early diagnosis and intervention.
2007 - 2008: Director of Development, the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL
). WARL is a 94 year-old animal welfare organization. In 2006 they opened a re
modeled animal care facility that became a national model for the care and treat
ment of Animals increasing it's adoption rate by 100%, the numbers of animals re
scued by 150% and the number of visitors to the shelter from 10,000 to 0ver 40,0
00 visitors.
2006 - 2007: Consultant, The Woman's National Democratic Club (WNDC). WNDC is
an 85 year-old organization that promotes women's rights and political advocacy.
Its educational foundation raises funds to support mentoring and scholarship p
rograms for disadvantaged students in the District of Columbia; preservation of
historical archives, museum and facilities.
2004 - 2006: Vice President, Development and Marketing, Rebuilding Together. R
ebuilding Together is a national all volunteer-based organization that rehabilit
ates homes owned by low-income elderly, disabled and families with children. Re
building Together has 250 affiliates and over 275,000 volunteers across the coun
try that revitalizes houses and communities.
1979 - 2004: Director, Corporate Marketing, Children's National Medical Center,
Washington, DC.
1983 - 2004: Executive Director, Children's Miracle Network, Washington Region
Prior to 1979 I was a consultant, for University Research Corporation and the US
Department of Labor. I worked on redesigning State Employment Systems, job cre
ation strategies in New Careers and Public Service Career programs; assessment o
f Welfare Reform under the Nixon Administration and the implementation of the Bl
ack Lung Program.

Accomplishments:
Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell). S
upervised a staff of 2. AG Bell had undergone a significant staff reduction in
2007 and had been without a development director since late 2006. Reorganized d
evelopment functions which included data entry (Raisers Edge), association exhib
it, sponsorship, subscription activities, advertising (both print and web), deve
lopment of a planned giving program, increased grant writing and direct marketin
g activities. Increased overall revenue from $765,000 in 2008 to over $2.8 mill
ion by end of January, 2010. Wrote three federal grants to support research sym
posium (NIDCD), Biennial Convention (CDC) and a matching grant to support the Al
exander Graham Bell Archives and Library (NEH). Wrote a grant proposal to fund
the on-line Parent Advocacy Training program (Oticon Foundation). Wrote a match
ing grant proposal to fund an on-line Knowledge Center for Listening and Spoken
Language (Alice and J. Willard Marriott Foundation). All of these initiatives w
ere funded.
Washington Animal Rescue League. Supervised a staff of two (02). Increased Foun
dation grant support from $40,000 to $1,375,000; increased direct marketing reve
nue by 30% from $625,000 to $815,000. Responsible for managing solicitation pro
spect ask for the first $1,000,000 foundation gift in WARL's 94-year history. D
eveloped a more market driven planned giving program by upgrading WARL's 1914 Le
gacy Society program and creating marketing materials. Wrote Board fundraising
training documents.
Woman's National Democratic Club. Increased funding to the Educational Foundati
on's Major Gifts initiative by 300% ($150K to $650K). Raised operational funds
to create a WiFi house-wide system; design a new web-site. Provided training an
d created materials for the implementation of a 5-year major gifts campaign. Up
graded the Club's Legacy Society to a full-blown planned giving program and crea
ted marketing materials to implement the program.
Rebuilding Together. Designed and implemented a relationship management program
; developed a capital campaign strategy; obtained more than $1m funding to suppo
rt a new home modification initiative for returning severely injured service per
sonnel from the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts; obtained $147k for support of ho
meowners who needed ramps in distressed neighborhoods; and designed a Product Do
nation Brochure. Leading the development team, we were able to secure $3.0m gran
t towards a $4m goal for home rehabilitation of low-income homeowners who are el
derly, disabled or families with children affected by the Hurricane disasters in
the Gulf Coast Region Fannie Mae, Shell, BP, Countrywide, Order of Malta, AARP
are just some examples of donors to this initiative). Developed a partnership w
ith AARP and received $1m in funding for AARP's Livable Communities initiative;
co-authored joint AARP $1.5 Corporation for Community Service Challenge grant (f
unded) to provide volunteers, housing rehabilitation and social services to low-
income homeowners who were impacted by the hurricane disasters.
Children's National Medical Center. Responsible for raising over $100m; Helped
develop two (02) capital campaigns ($100m and $300m) that were successfully comp
leted; designer of the Hospital's mascot plush; moved the Hospital from the numb
er 19 fundraising hospital in the Children's Miracle Network (170 children's hos
pitals) to the number one position from 1996 - 2004; developed over 60 cause mar
keting retail and QSR promotions raising over $12,000,000; Created an over $3m d
irect marketing program; Executive Producer of the local Children's Miracle Netw
ork Broadcast; Producer and co- founder of the Comedy Concert for Children's Hos
pital presented by the Freddie Mac Foundation held annually at the Warner Theatr
e from 1996 - 2004 raising over $1.2m to support the Hospital's child victimizat
ion treatment and outreach programs. I built over the years shared account mana
gement relationships with Foundation staff and volunteer corps of approximately
450 people to assist me in execution of cause branding, marketing and event prop
erties. Toys R Us, Kohl's Department Stores, Marriott, Wal-Mart, Booz Allen Ham
ilton, Giant Food Stores of Pennsylvania/Martin Food Markets, Food Lion, Freddie
Mac, and CVS are some examples of partnerships that I created.

Other Accomplishments: Wrote the State of Alaska's Public Service Careers' Manu
al and restructured the State's employment service; authored the 1972 revision o
f the Federal Vocational Rehabilitation Act; presented several workshops and se
minars on cause related marketing; direct marketing at national and internationa
l meetings.
