POST-GRADUATE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS, Worcester, Massachusetts * 1998-2000
Post-doctoral Associate
Conducted research on identification of contributions to Haemophilus influenzae
pathogenesis by the dsbA ortholog por (Periplasmic oxidoreductase). Subsequent s
tudies on the periplasmic fractions using single dimension gel sub-proteomics an
d mass spectrophotometric analysis revealed ribH as a downstream target of por.
VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC AND STATE UNIVERSITY, Blacksburg, Virginia * 2001-2003
Post-doctoral Associate
Conducted research to examine the nodulation process in the Microsymbiont Sinorh
izobium melliloti and its host Medicago truncatula. Utilized advanced genomics a
nd proteomics tools in set-up of the laboratory.

GRADUATE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE, Memphis, Tennessee * 1992-2000
1996-2000 - Mentor: Prof. Dennis E. Ohman
Employed Proteomic and Genomic analysis to identify transcriptional and proteomi
c changes upon mucoid conversion in Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain PAO1. Analysis
identified bona-fide targets of AlgT (Sigma-22, an E. Coli Sigma E ortholog) th
e dsbA gene and also a novel 15 kDa protein with unknown function. Additionally,
identified targets-AruC (an arginine biosynthesis enzyme) in particular-that we
re repressed by AlgT. Subsequent characterization of DsbA showed that it was not
required for alginate biosynthesis, suggesting that the AlgT regulon encompasse
s a large set of genes besides those involved in Alginate biosynthesis. Analysis
has set the path for further genomic proteomic and systemic characterization of
regulons in P. aeruginosa.
1992-1996 - Mentor: Dr. Lorraine Albritton
Conducted research focused on characterizing the receptor domain for the murine
ecotropic virus receptor in mATRC1. Used homology scanning to identify residues
that may be critical for receptor function. Subsequently, determined that alanin
e scanning mutagenesis and biochemical substitutions would help identify and del
ineate the biochemical role of these residues that were critical for function.
