SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS:
Extensive strategic communications, media relations, and corporate communication
s experience on the Defense Department Staff and the Army Staff in the Pentagon.
More than 4 years of strategic-level experience working on the personal staffs
of two 4-star military Service chiefs: as Media Spokesman for one Chief of Staf
f for over 3 years and as Senior Speechwriter for another Chief of Staff for a y
ear. Extensive supervisory experience from leading U.S. military units of 50 to
5,000 people. Combat veteran. Have lived 8 years overseas.

EMPLOYMENT HIGHLIGHTS:
May 2008 June 2010: Department of Defense Staff, Washington, DC. Deputy Direct
or and Chief of Staff of the Defense Media Activity (www.dma.mil), which is alig
ned with the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs). DMA
executes the internal/corporate communications and media functions of the four
U.S. military Services. DMA also has responsibility for the Armed Forces Radio
and Television Service (AFRTS) organizations for U.S. military personnel serving
overseas; Stars and Stripes newspaper; The Pentagon Channel; and the Defense In
formation School (DINFOS), which trains all military journalists. DMA consists
of more than 2,000 personnel, is dispersed in 15 countries and 8 states in the U
SA, and has a $265 million annual budget.
June 2005 November 2007: 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas, and Ir
aq. Commanded a brigade consisting of four battalions and 5,000 soldiers, inclu
ding for 15 months in Iraq from August 2006 to November 2007, where the brigade
supported three U.S. Army Divisions and a Marine Expeditionary Force. Served co
ncurrently for nearly 18 months before deploying to Iraq as the Director of Emer
gency Services (DES) on Fort Hood, with responsibility for the police and fire d
epartments, on the largest U.S. military installation in the world.
June 2004 June 2005: Office of the Army Chief of Staff, Washington, DC. Senior
Speechwriter for the 4-star Chief of Staff of the United States Army (senior un
iformed official in the Army) with all specified and implied duties.
July 2001 August 2002: Army Operations Center, Pentagon, Washington, DC. Served
as Executive Officer and Senior Military Assistant to the 2-star Director of Op
erations, Readiness and Mobilization, who was responsible for orchestrating U.S.
military support to other Federal agencies as well as state, city and local gov
ernments, and Continuity of Operations (COOP) procedures for the Army Staff. Wa
s inside the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 when it was attacked by terrorists.
Established the Armys Crisis Action Team (CAT) and maintained continuity of ope
rations.
July 1999 July 2001: 924th Military Police Battalion, Fort Riley, Kansas. Comm
anded a U.S. Army Battalion consisting of four companies and 600 soldiers and al
so supervised 100 Army civilians while serving concurrently as Director of Emerg
ency Services, with responsibility for the police and fire departments, on this
historic Army post.
March 1996 June 1999: Office of the Army Chief of Staff, Pentagon, Washington,
DC. While assigned as the Media Spokesman, handled all media events and activiti
es for the Armys 4-star senior uniformed leader, including personally conducting
and orchestrating hundreds of media interviews with print, television, and radi
o reporters and news organizations, and routinely speaking On-the-Record on beha
lf of the general and the Army. Position involved extensive travel as a member
of the Chief of Staffs official party.
June 1991 July 1993: Office of the Chief of Army Public Affairs, Pentagon, Wash
ington, DC. Chief, Print Media Branch, with responsibility for the Army News Se
rvice (ARNEWS), the Armys wire service (equivalent of the AP), which disseminate
d articles and photos to more than 300 newspapers and news outlets worldwide. L
ater, served 14 months as the Media Spokesman for the Army Vice Chief of Staff,
the second-ranking unformed officer in the U.S. Army.
September 1980 June 1991: Served in a variety of U.S. military leadership and
staff positions of increasing responsibility in the United States, Korea and Ger
many at the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, and Major.
June 1977 June 1980: While in college, worked full-time as Chief of Security f
or Boston Kenmore Realty Co., in Boston, Massachusetts. Responsibilities includ
ed supervising seven (7) personnel and providing security for a six-story apartm
ent complex in the Kenmore Square section of Boston. Also worked part-time whil
e in college as a Consumer Complaint Mediator in the Public Protection Bureau, O
ffice of the Massachusetts Attorney General.
