Overview

Development Director
2011 has begun very well for Setia
City Mall; you only need to take one
look at the construction site to see
how well the structure has
progressed since the last issue of
Great times. I was on site recently
and was pleased with how well the
team were doing, not only with the
rate of construction, but also with
their dedication to safety. It makes
me proud to be associated with
such a great project.
There is also plenty of great news
coming from our leasing team, who
are busy securing all the exciting
retailers who will call Setia City
Mall home. We have given you just
a taste of the many names we have
so far, but rest assured there’s a
great mix of exceptional familiar
faces on board, as well as some
very exciting new names.
One of these new names is the
supermarket, Urbanfresh, which
we are all very excited about. The
store design, service and products
they plan to offer will be well
received by all of you I’m sure.
There will be more information on
them over the coming months.

What’s
Things move very rapidly

but here’s a quick snapshot
of what’s going on around
the project.
On site safety
A commitment
to Incident and
Injury Free
Our key focus on site remains to
operate incident and injury free,
where every worker goes home
safely, every day. Unfortunately, we
have had one accident this month,
when a worker hurt his leg after he
jumped from a platform. Lessons
learnt from the incident have been
recorded and communicated, to
ensure it doesn’t happen in the
future. The injured worker is
expected to make a full recovery and
we are looking forward to
welcoming him back at work soon.
Wangsa Bowl
We are super excited that bowling legends
Wangsa Bowl will be added to the fantastic
line up of family entertainment facilities at
Setia City Mall, although we are slightly
nervous about the inevitable competitions
within the centre management team that
will result. Strikes, spares and successful
7-10 splits aplenty I’m sure.

If you’ve been paying attention to
our Facebook and Twitter pages, you
would already have seen the recent
additions to the Setia City Mall line
up, including EGOnutritions.com,
SHINS, Sweet Chat Café, Fitness
Concept, Memory Lane and Pacific
Coffee Company. But exclusively in
Great times, we can now tell you
that party kings TGI Friday’s, peri
peri chicken masters Nandos, health
supplement experts GNC, and ladies’
fashion queens Bonita, will all be
calling Setia City Mall home.
Stay tuned to our Facebook and

The new outlet will be located on Level 2,
opposite Golden Screen Cinemas, and will
provide over 30 lanes.

Gotong Royong
The recent Gotong Royong Campaign
series, organised by our friends at S P
Setia, was a great success thanks to all
those residents who participated. The
Setia City Mall team were also there to
lend a hand on the 23rd of January. The
participation from the residents of Indah
9 and 11 was overwhelming; making us
very happy with the pride the Setia Alam
community has for itself. Our team
thoroughly enjoyed the day, and loved
hearing your enthusiasm about the mall.
We look forward to many more joint
activities between the Lend Lease and
S P Setia teams.

We are pleased to announce the first

Meet the team
Dayal Prabhakaran
Retail Project Manager
Can you elaborate on what
you do?
I work within the retail delivery team
to make sure that all the shops in
Setia City Mall open smoothly. It is
important for us to monitor the
progress of the contractors’’
renovation works and to ensure they
comply with the approved design,
which helps to maintain a high
standard throughout the mall. It is
also part of my responsibility to
ensure retailers comply with all the
safety and regulatory requirements.
Our presence is to answer
construction questions, deal with
peculiar situations and to help solve
any technical problems that arise.
What is the best thing about
your job?
The best thing about my job is the
thrill of seeing designs on paper
transform into reality, more over
being integral to the realisation of a
retailer’s vision. Additionally, the fun
of pulling together all the elements
through discussions with retailers,
contractors and our own leasing
team is a fun challenge.
How would you describe working
on Setia City Mall?
I would say that it’s challenging,
but a great deal of fun as well. I’m
extremely proud of being part of
such a strong team and I would
definitely say that it’s a milestone
in my career. I am highly motivated
and inspired by the quality of my
colleagues here, but most of all
I’m very excited to be a part of
making Setia City Mall an amazing
retail destination.

Meet Indra Ramanathan, the Interior
Design Architect working on Setia City Mall.
Indra is a leading figure in the field of
architectural design, interior design and
art. Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Indra
spent his formative years being educated
in Melbourne, Australia; Cuneo, Italy;
London and New York. Indra now practices
in Malaysia, with projects in Trinidad and
Tobago, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and
the Philippines.
Indra is the Managing Partner of
iPartnership, the diverse team responsible
for the look and feel of Setia City Mall’s
interior design. Other projects created
under iPartnership include an impressive
Art
array of corporate offices, the award
winning Sultan Lounge at the Mandarin
Bringing Setia City Mall to life
The interiors of Setia Mall will be in a
predominantly neutral palette, with
flashes of energy and excitement at key
places such as lift lobbies and main
entrances. A subtle application of vibrant
colours and textures, along with the
deployment of 3D print technology, will
ensure the retailers of Setia City Mall are
the focus, whilst the mall itself will exude
its own distinctive personality.
A variant of earthly textured floors and
the addition of carpet in the entertainment
zone will create a warm and friendly
environment that will make shoppers feel
both welcome and comfortable. A unique
recessed lighting system will also reduce
the need for overly bright direct lighting,
adding to the ambiance of the mall and

Indra and his team are radically changing
the aesthetics of interior architecture,
and in doing so are helping to define a
new design culture.
It was this commitment to pushing the
boundaries that led to their appointment
on Setia City Mall. After working closely
with lead architects Archicentre, the
overarching theme was settled on by Indra
and his team, and is currently being refined
for inclusion in the project. The concept is

Tell us a bit about your company.
What are some of the key facts?
The concept of Pacific Coffee was
inspired by the coffee culture of Seattle,

team had a great time meeting all of you
and thoroughly enjoyed your enthusiasm
and excitement towards Setia City Mall.
Children under 12 were invited to
determine a prize by spinning a wheel.
They then had to answer a question
related to safety and environmental
sustainability successfully to receive the
prize. Some of the questions asked include:
What is the purpose of wearing a seat
belt? What do red, yellow and green mean
on a traffic light? And name three items
you can recycle.
We gave away lots of prizes to some
very clever young children, including Setia
City Mall t-shirts, notepads and pens as
well as RM2 and RM5 Ang Pows. A big
congratulations to all our prize winners.
Extra congratulations also need to go to 7
year old Gigi Goh, who landed on our Grand
Prize, answered the question correctly, and
received an iPod Nano worth RM549. The
smile on her face really brightened our day.
We look forward to meeting more of you

Construction Manager
Momentum on the construction of Setia
City Mall has really started to build in the
last few months, especially as we hit our
stride on the main structure. We are now
right out of the ground and rapidly erecting
the retail mall. What this means for the
team is that the work is more repetitive
and predictable, especially as most of the
work is on the upper levels. Thankfully,
rain is starting to have a lower impact on
us. This is because we have entirely
covered the Lower Ground floor with
concrete, ensuring we’re out of the mud.
Our aim is to complete around 0.4Ha
(1 acre) of floor area each week. That will
mean that most of the building will be
completed by half way through the year,
with only the structure for Golden Screen
Cinemas continuing after June.

The increased pace of the structure
construction, plus the addition of masonry,
mechanical and electrical teams means we
now have more than 600 workers on site.
This team is currently doing about 50,000
man hours per week; with the total hours
worked rapidly approaching the one million
mark.
If you drive past at night you will see us
working well into each evening. The scale
of the building is now really noticeable. You
only need to look at the photos and see just
how small a person is in some of the views.
March is a very exciting time for us as we
start on the structural steel for the roof
and also take delivery of our first escalators.

We have five tower cranes now in place,

and two large and several smaller mobile
cranes working on the job as well. We have
also now started work on the car park
structure, which you will see taking shape
very shortly. At first we plan to use the
lower level of the car park as a support
area for the construction of the retail mall,
but will start on the upper levels of the car
park during April.
Coming very soon
Setia City Mall will be so much more than
just another place to shop. It will be a fun
and affordable experience for all the family,
encompassing amazing green space,
fabulous food, great entertainment and,
of course, fantastic shopping.
