MIDWEST FILTRATION COMPANY

Materials Manager: Responsible for the purchase and management of production ma
terials, facilities services, receiving / shipping, ERP item master, negotiatio
n and enforcement of supplier agreements.
BOM / Production Order Management: Responsible for BOM and production order pro
cess.
Supplier Management: Set up VMI conditions with MRO suppliers and some raw comp
onent suppliers. Vendors would be permitted to enter the workstations to monitor
inventory status then replenish if necessary based on ROP levels and blanket pu
rchase orders. I encouraged our key suppliers to be involved early in new produ
ct development and problem solving. I also requested key suppliers to provide co
ntingency plans in the event their facilities / operations were incapacitated du
e to inclement weather or other unforeseen factors.
Cost Reduction:
a) Materials: (Mostly corrugated and metal): $300K (18% Avg) w/corresponding spe
nd of $1.4M
b) Freight: Eliminated multiple service providers resulting in volume-discounted
rates. Further analysis revealed excessive inbound shipments were being schedul
ed for high turnover items. Eventually the freight vendor base was reduced to o
ne major service provider (USF Holland) resulting in negotiated savings totalin
g $65K or 22% reduction of annual freight cost (Annual spend $300K).
c) Obsolete Inventory: Actively involved in the prevention / elimination of exc
ess & obsolete inventory - The largest transaction involved an HVAC service co
mpany located in New York. I located the company via cold-calls and eventually
sold off approximately $10K of excess HVAC raw materials inventory.
Contract Administration: Contracted with facilities-related services and equipm
ent - A significant incident involved the purchase of multiple pieces of product
ion equipment in excess of $1M. One of the machines proved to be faulty after i
nstallation and the contractor refused to take responsibility for the correction
. A lawyer retained by our employer subsequently concluded that the contract I p
repared contained the appropriate legal protection & signatures that rendered th
e supplier liable. Following subsequent communications, the contractor agreed t
o the necessary actions making Midwest Filtration whole per the agreement.
Significant Accomplishment: Seeing the impact of year over year material cost
savings on a small companys bottom line.

XEROX CORPORATION
Purchasing Management: Responsible for the purchase of copier packaging, copier
components, outsourced machining services, and MRO supplies. Materials include
d electronic components and plastic / foam / corrugated materials for product pa
ckaging. Coordinated the consolidation of the purchasing function for three loca
l operations. Coordinated the sourcing, negotiation, purchase, and delivery / i
nstallation schedules of a $1M + racking system for a local distribution center.

Quality & Continuous Improvement: Served as an internal ISO auditor to prepare

our facility for certification and compliance audits. Our facility earned ISO 9
002 and ISO 14000 certifications.
Cost Reduction:
a) A feasibility analysis with Xeroxs corporate contracts department regarding t
he elimination of a Canadian supplier to the Cincinnati operations required a wr
itten business case. My responsibility was to justify a local supplier strategy
. The supplier also had to meet corporate quality guidelines. Subsequent to pre
senting the case, the corporate contracts department approved the transition to
a local supplier strategy in Cincinnati.
b) I had demonstrated immediate cost savings: By implementing a local supplier s
trategy for our packaging products, the local supplier had incentive to warehous
e inventory at their location for 90 days at delivered pricing that was favorabl
e to Xerox. We could require as many shipments necessary w/o additional freight
costs. The analysis yielded a reduction in total costs - Materials, shuttle cos
ts from an off-site warehouse ($75 per), storage costs, and the elimination of n
agging late deliveries caused by weather and geographical distance.
Significant Accomplishment: Convincing corporate Xerox in Webster, NY to tran
sition to a local supplier
strategy in Cincinnati.
