2011/2012
Parent and student must read this document in its entirety then sign and return the agreement
prior to cheer tryouts.
Purpose
The primary role of the cheer squad is to provide support for the interscholastic athletic program.
The cheer squad is to boost school spirit, promote good sportsmanship, develop positive crowd
involvement, and improve student morale. Competition is a secondary consideration and should
not interfere with their primary responsibility.
Mission
The mission of the cheer squad is to learn proper technique, develop sportsmanship and team
work, build friendships and athleticism and most of all have FUN!!
Academic Eligibility
All cheer squad participants must maintain a 2.00 GPA grade point average with no F’s
throughout the season. The school will check grades on a regular basis and let the coach know
who is in danger of not passing. The coach will follow the school’s eligibility policy with the
addition that if a participant appears on the grade sheet three times in one season that member
may be removed from the team.
Rules and Regulations
Each member will follow the rules of the team (included in this handbook), school, NIAA
(Nevada Administrative Code 386.754) and the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS)
regarding spirit and maintain grades throughout the cheer season.
Leadership & Conduct
All members are to be aware of the responsibilities and commitment to the school and the student
body. A squad member’s conduct while representing the school directly reflects on the entire
school. All members will be respectful of their peers, coaches, teachers and administrators at all
times.
Coaches
The Coaches are responsible for coordination with the school administration, parents,
transportation, fundraising, uniforms, rules and regulations, schedules, practices, finances,
behavior and discipline. Please talk to Jason or Keli with any questions or concerns.
Tryouts
The cheer squad members will be chosen by the coaching staff during a tryout session. All
participants are required to have an athletic clearance packet with current physical examination
submitted to the Athletic Department prior to tryouts. The number of teams and squad members
will be determined at tryouts.
Season
The cheer season begins in June and ends upon completion of the state basketball tournament in
February. By attending tryouts, the cheerleader is committing to the entire season and agrees to
give 100% to the team at all times.
Uniforms
The cost sheet for cheer is attached to this handbook. The uniforms are rented and must be
returned to the coaches at the end of the season. The cost is divided into three payments. The due
dates have been set to insure delivery of the items when needed. All items and money are non-
refundable for any reason.
Fundraisers
The coaching staff will provide fundraisers throughout the season to pay for team related costs
such as the banquet, activities, posters, signs, mats, crowd throws etc. Participation is required of
all members.

5
Accounting
All money will be turned in to the Jason, Keli, or the Bookkeeper, and must be in an envelope
with cheerleader name, amount and reason for money. Every time a member turns in cash or a
money order they will receive a receipt. Checks are preferred and are to be made payable to
“MCQ Cheer”.
Summer Camp
The cheer squad members will attend a mandatory three day camp at Galena High School from
August 1-3. All squad members are required to attend. Bring your own lunch.
Captains
There will be two captains chosen for each team that will lead the members in warm up exercises,
cheers and setting up the game plan. They will work with the coaches to organize routines and
performances with their team. Captains need to attend ALL cheer functions and be able to
motivate their team and be a strong role model. The captains will be chosen after practices begin
in July.
Attendance
Members must attend all practices, games, fundraisers and other cheer functions. In case of
sickness or other extenuating circumstances a parent must text Jason or Keli prior for any
absence.
Practices
Practices begin July 25. All summer vacations should be taken before this time. Summer
practices are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 7-11am. After School begins practices
will be held Monday and Wednesday from 3:30-6:00pm. Additional practices may be necessary
before special events such as homecoming. The appropriate practice clothes including shoes must
be worn at all times.
Games
The teams will cheer for all J.V., and Varsity Football games. They will cheer for all Boys J.V.,
and Varsity Boys and Girls basketball games. They will travel to away games by the bus provided
by the WCSD. All members must ride the bus to and from the game. The squad will arrive at all
home games 30 minutes prior to game time ready to take the field in the proper uniform attire.
Vacations/Holidays
The coach will try not to schedule cheer functions during Thanksgiving. However, there may be
games during those times and we will follow the NIAA athletic schedule. All games are posted
on www.highschoolsports.net. If you have a conflict please see the Head Coach as soon as
possible.
