1. (a) Write a note on source transformation.


(b) Using KCL and KVL, find the currents in all the sources of the circuit of the following figure1

2. (a) Distinguish between electrical and magnetic circuits.


(b) The magnetic circuit of a certain electro magnet can be regarded as consisting of 3 parts in series, each
being of uniform C.S. area.
Part I: Length = 10cm, µr = 500, C.S. area = 0.5 cm2
Part II: Airgap length 0.5m C.S. area = 0.5cm2
Part III: Length = 12cms, µr = 800 C.S. area = 1 cm2
Determine the current required in a coil of 1000 turns to produce a flux density of 0.4 Wb/m2 in the air
gap. Neglect leakage.
(c) Explain what you understand by Leakage factor. What is its effect?
3. (a) Explain how a sinusoidal quantity can be represented by a phasor.
(b) Find the form factor of the following (figure2).

4. (a) For a series RL circuit obtain the locus of current as inductance is changed form 0 to ∞ when the applied
voltage is constant
(b) Show that for a series resonant circuit f1 f2 = f2r where f1 and f2 are half power frequencies and fr is the
resonance frequency.
(c) Obtain the z-parameters of the following figure3 Two port network.

5. (a) Show that two watt meters are sufficient to measure power in a 3 phase circuit. Derive the expressions for
wattmeter readings for a balanced 3phase load.
(b) A 3 phase, 400v, 4wire system has a star connected load with ZA =(10+j0)ohms, ZB =(15+j10) ohms,
ZC =(0+j5) ohms. Find the line currents and current through neutral conductor. Draw the phasor diagram.
6. (a) Design band pass T-filter with cutoff frequencies of 5KHz and 10KHz operating into a load of 500ohms.
(b) Determine the voltage V for the coupled circuit shown in figure4. Use loop current method. The coefficient
of coupling K is 0.8.

7. (a) State and explain the superposition theorem.
(b) Using super position theorem find the current in 2 ohms resistor from the following network shown in
figure5.

8. (a) Application of Laplace Transforms to Electric circuits only to be considered.


(b) Laplace transform mathematical background should have been studied in Mathematics course.
