2. System Requirements
======================
Software on the CD should be installed only on Intel desktop
boards with any of the following operating systems:
- Microsoft* Windows* XP Professional and Home Edition with
Service Pack 1 (comes with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0).
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 3
(comes with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0).
- Microsoft Windows ME (comes with Microsoft Internet Explorer
5.5).
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (comes with Microsoft
Internet Explorer 5.0).
NOTE: Some applications may require a higher version of Microsoft
Internet Explorer. Please check the specific component's
information in this readme.
NOTE: Installation on a Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000
system requires that the user either be logged in as an
Administrator or have Administrator privileges.
NOTE: If your system has other applications running that could
prevent a system reboot, please close those applications
before starting an installation to protect yourself from
loss of any unsaved data.

3. Known Issues with Intel(R) Express Installer
===============================================
The following known issues are listed with the installer portion
of the Intel Express Installer CD:
- The System Information Screen may incorrectly display L1 Cache
information for newer Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processors released
after December 2003. As a workaround, use the Intel(R) Processor
Frequency ID Utility to provide Cache information. For more
information about this utility, go to:
http://www.intel.com/support/processors/tools/frequencyid/index.htm
- The System Information Report does not include the Processor
Type that is displayed on the System Information screen. As
a workaround, view the Processor Type on-screen by clicking
the "System Info" button.
- If the system processor has an 800 MHz front side bus, the System
Information screen may not show the correct frequency above 533
MHz for the processor external clock. As a possible workaround,
update your BIOS to the newest version.
- Users may need to click the "Cancel" button twice if an error
occurs during a Web Updates download. This will close the
Download Progress dialog box.
- Pressing the Ctrl-Tab key sometimes does not switch focus
within some screens. This may happen after a dialog box
appears. As a workaround, use the mouse to regain focus in the
desired area.
- In some operating systems and languages, clicking the "Reports"
button after a full software and driver installation may generate
a system reboot.
- IMPORTANT: Please read Section 5 for Installation Notes on known
issues and solutions regarding specific drivers and applications
on the Intel Express Installer CD.
-----------
Other Hints
-----------
- If your Windows XP system displays the following message:
"The software you are installing for this hardware
<SOFTWARE NAME ID> has not passed Windows Logo
testing to verify it's compatibility with WINDOWS XP."
The drivers being used are early versions and need updates at
a later time. You will need to click the "Continue Anyway"
button to proceed. This message appears during some new
desktop board releases when final WHQL certified drivers have
not yet been released from software vendors.
The Driver Signing message can be disabled for Windows XP
and Windows 2000 based systems by the following procedure:
1. Click the "Start" button. Then right-click the "My Computer"
icon and select "Properties."
2. Click on the "Hardware" tab and click on "Driver Signing."
3. Click the "Ignore - ..." option and then click "OK" twice.
- Note that the EIReport.txt file (or its renamed version) is
saved as a Unicode file. Some ASCII viewing software may show
box-like characters with this file when using Windows 98 SE or
Windows ME. Microsoft Internet Explorer* displays Unicode
correctly for all operating systems supported by the Intel(R)
Express Installer CD. For non-English Windows operating systems
including Windows 2000 and Windows XP, viewing or printing the
content of a saved report using WordPad may not produce the
same appearance as displaying the report in Express Installer's
Report screen.
- For easier viewing of any version of the license file, either
open or print the file located in the root of the Intel Express
Installer CD. For example, use "License0409.rtf" to view the
English version of the file or "License0804.rtf" for the
Simplified Chinese version of the file. Note that your system
must have the specific language font installed.
- Intel Express Installer does not support display settings that
are not set to "Small Fonts" (96 dpi). If this setting is set
to a different value, the Express Installer window and dialog
boxes may appear larger or characters and strings may be
truncated. To correct this, go to the Control Panel, click the
Display icon, click the Settings tab, and click the Advanced
button. Set Display's font size for "Small Fonts" (Normal size
96 dpi).
- If proxy settings need to be used for the "Web Updates"
feature of Express Installer, please be sure to enter valid
proxy information (you may click the "Options" button to view
or change Proxy Settings). Incorrect proxy settings may cause
Web Updates to fail and generate an error message if the Express
Installer application exits after attempting to connect to the
Internet. To correct this problem, please re-enter correct
proxy information before performing any Web Updates action. If
you need help to determine the correct proxy settings, contact
your network administrator or Internet Service Provider. For
more information, refer to the Help file and search for the
"Proxy Server Settings" topic.

Refer to the "Errata and Contingencies" information for your specific
Intel desktop board. This information contains the assigned WHQL
Driver contingency number for the unsigned Intel(R) System Management
BIOS (SMBIOS) WDM driver. The Motherboard Logo Program (MLP) Report
can be found at the Intel website:
http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/whql.htm
If needed, system integrators should use this WHQL driver contingency
number to apply for a WHQL logo on systems using Microsoft Windows
2000 or Windows XP operating systems.
